Came here with my bestie and thoroughly enjoyed our brunch. The owner (with a great Italian accent) helped us. Very nice gentleman. I am all about supporting local businesses! The cafe is light and has lots of areas to sit. The menu is smaller, but honestly, less can be more. We had the bacon cheese omelette. It came with some nice grilled potatoes. I will say the toast was teeny tiny, like literally tiny bread, lol but everything was delicious. We also had a raisin pastry which was flaky and heavenly. The cappuccino was excellent as well. I've been coming here since it opened. Filippo is a gem, he always greets you like a friend who is truly happy to see you. I'm so glad that the menu has expanded beyond the panini sandwiches to the pasta dishes, which are as authentically Italian as Fillipo and made fresh fresh fresh fresh. Delicious. Only a few things on the menu but made perfectly. And the most legit coffee you'll get in San Mateo. If you live in the area and don't stop by, you are missing out on a local treasure. It's as close as we can get to being in Italy. My friend and I visit this cute little cafe everytime I visit her in San Mateo. The owner Filippo is awesome. He is super friendly, always making jokes, and always attentive! I've been to Fiero several times and always enjoyed it in the past. Great omelettes cooked well with the right proportion of filling and salads that are fresh and not overdressed. Good sandwiches. Unfortunately, when I decided to stop by recently to support their business during the pandemic, I was shocked to see a group of six people clustered by the cash register as if the counter was a bar. Nobody was wearing a mask nor was there a mask in sight among them. They were chatting amiably and laughing loudly with the owner whose own mask was covering only his chin. A cellphone was passed among them to share a photo, then the owner, without washing his hands, picked up some plates to take to some people eating outside. I walked out immediately. Carelessness like this is why we are having a surge in COVID-19 cases in the county. read more

Fiero Caffe is hands down my favorite lunch stop in San Mateo. The penne salmon is consistently delicious. It consists of ridge-less mini penne with a creamy dill sauce and smoked salmon. The kitchen is willing to substitution with fresh salmon for an additional fee. I would say for this dish, portion size is fair for the price. The owner, Filippo, is always delighted to see familiar faces. There is a beautiful sunlit room that overlooks the creek. First time visiting the Fiero Caffe since moving to the bay area recently. The good stuff - cappuccino, vegetarian omelet and Biscotti was good! Nothing that you couldn't find anywhere else but definitely serves the purpose if you have nowhere else to go and you want to eat decent food. Now, the part which will ensure that I'd never come back and visit. Customer service- whilst the chefs, Cappucino boy are pleasant and do their jobs well. The guy with black rimmed glasses and with hair that has a ton of hair gel (think he is the owner/general manager) is plain rude, offensive and needs to attend a few immersion classes on how to treat people right and with respect. read more

This is my go to lunch spot in San Mateo. The food is very fresh with lots of delicious italian options and delicious and healthy salads. The owner is very sweet and attentive and makes an effort to get to know his patrons and remember their likes and dislikes. He is very accomodating as well with the menu. The coffee is very strong and there are lots of options to sit alone or in groups. I often see book clubs and mom's clubs meeting up here. It has a great community feeling and I am so greatful to be able to pop in and get anything from eggs to panini, salad, fresj fruit, ravioli, calamari, tiramisu and now even gelato and assorted coffee drinks. Going here is an experience. From the people, to the food/drinks, to the interior and decor, all the elements work together and make every visit a great one. The only bad part is that parking is difficult. If you're ballsy enough you can park at cheungs dental lots with the threat of a tow.. Otherwise there's street parking along crystal springs and el Camino. I got a latte, which was pulled well, and the prosciutto di Parma panini. I'm a huge fan of prosciutto, so I loved it, but the mozzarella and fresh tomatoes inside brought it to another level. It also comes with a salad with halved cherry tomatoes. Each tomato was individually salted and peppered.. hella detail. There's plenty of space, but my favorite spot is on the left room (when you enter) next to the window overlooking a (drought-stricken) stream and an abundance of trees. Was there for more than an hour plugged in and studying, felt no pressure to leave except for the fact that I parked in cheungs dental and got too scared and left. Definitely coming back. read more

Horrible service. Was wonderful the last two times I went there but if yesterday (a Friday!) had been my first visit I would never come back. The service was atrocious. All I ordered was an omelette and regular coffee, asked if I pick it up or go sit, and told the young guy that rang me up where I was sitting which was right outside the door. (And yes, I'd left a big tip in the jar)! Plenty of other people had ordered, eaten and left already. I was with a friend talking so didn't notice the time, but literally a half hour later I didn't even have my coffee and went in again to ask. The (owner? not sure) was deep in conversation with another customer but said they'd bring my coffee, and when I asked about the omelette it seemed the order hadn't yet been put in. 10 min later I still did not have my coffee and if I hadn't paid already would have left at that point. Again went in and this time the owner poured the coffee himself and brought it out, followed by the omelette. Very decent European style breakfast place. It's a nice, airy café, though it wouldn't seem great to work in. The food was very decent, we had a smoked salmon omelette, and a Sicilian omelette. Both were served with nice fried potatoes, some grilled baguette, and a slice of orange. The omelettes themselves were tasty, but too salty, especially the salmon one.
