Was looking on Yelp for a new place to try on this cold snowy day and stumbled across Fertitta's! Sounded really good with all fresh, not frozen food. So off we went. Tucked in a shopping center, there it was. What a great little diner. Very friendly staff, and a true neighborhood feel. Between three of we sampled the menu pretty good. Cheese burger, Chili Burger, Footlong hot dog (Nathans) chili dog (also Nathans), onion rings, and their fresh made chips. Fantastic! What a treat to have fresh made burgers! The chips ROCK! Onion rings, excellent! Now for the surprise. Home made banana pudding. Absolutely incredible! The only complaint I have......the banana pudding is too small! :) Most definitely will return! I wanted a homemade breakfast before I went to work. When I called to place my order they hung up on me. Ordered the next day and got the chicken and waffles. THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!! It's a small space so your literally sitting in front of a flat top grill and something was smoking so there was a lot of coughing. The chicken breast that they fried and sliced tasted like a store bought chicken patty that had a slight sour taste. Maybe they battered it in spoiled buttermilk. The home fries were BURNT AND GREASY and had pieces of charred grill specs throughout them. They even charged me extra for onions in the home fries. The waffle had an unusual texture that didn't seem to break with a butter knife. They were VERY CHEWY AND TOUGH even after drowning them in syrup. Never will patronize this place ever again! I came in for breakfast on this cold rainy day to a place I never even heard of, even though I have lived at buckroe beach for many years. I have a cinnamon allergy and on Sundays, they do a all you can eat option for waffles, pancakes, or French toast. I love French toast but can not eat it doe to my allergy. The waitress, Brittnay recommended another waitresses fav French toast, Captain Crunch French toast. It was by far the absolute best French toast I have ever had. As a world traveler, I have had French toast in some of the worlds best places but this best kept secret right here in my home town of Hampton Va, WOW! So i went to try this place today for breakfast. You can get anything on the menu at anytime which gives you more options. The place is small but quaint, the music is good and the atmosphere is good. Furniture has seen better days and the tables were sticky. You can see the cook making the food which is good but they have all of the consumables on a rack visible to the customers. The food: it's greasy diner food and some people like. I had a sandwich and it was kinda slopply made and had really greasy home made chips but it looked like it was dumped on my plate straight from the fryer without it draining on a paper towel first. Overall I have had worse but with a few changes this place would be a jem. The staff and the workers there were really nice as well. Yelp seriously mislead me on this place. This was the dirtiest restaurant I've ever been to. I cant believe it's still open. I dont know which was worse the smell of bleach or the food and dirt all over the floor. Food was mediocre, greasy and bland. And to top it all off the cook was running around with gloves on his hands, cleaning, and cooking and then sat down to play on his phone. The food is good but it is hard to not be distracted at how often the owner criticizes and demeans his employees. He doesn't even do them the favor of talking to them out back or lowering his voice to keep it private, so you hear the entire conversation. Last week week we give it another try because we heard it was under new ownership, for a few years, and didn't disappoint. It was an awesome experience from the food to the excellent service. Tried it for the first time today. The chef's salad was amazing, fresh greens, toppings, meats and cheeses with homemade dressing. Burgers and fries were from scratch. The southwest burger was off the charts! The menu was unique with so many options it was hard to choose!
