I missed this cafe when it closed; however, the new owner is dynamic and fun, as is her staff. They waited on us as soon as all our party had arrived. I had the "Alliecat's Favorite Toast". It was absolutely delicious. Thick slices of sourdough topped with a smashed avocado, two eggs over-easy, very tasty cherry tomatoes, drizzled with olive oil and sea salt. The room has some really cool farm-type decorations, a hardwood floor, but the tables are far enough apart that you can talk to your guests and not have trouble hearing each other. Let's start with coffee, I ordered a 12oz hot coffee with caramel. I was given 3oz of espresso..okay, whatever. I wasn't happy about it but I decided to let it slide and hoped the food would make up for it. I was extremely disappointed with the food. My eggs Benny's egg whites were still runny, English muffin absolutely soggy and disgusting, with a thin slice of deli ham. The potatoes (that I wasn't informed or asked if I wanted onions or peppers by the way) were so grease soaked and cold that they were actually inedible. My partner's chicken fried steak was way overcooked, hard and tough. Just all around terrible. I'm so glad I didn't have breakfast in Eureka and came across this gem. As soon as I walked in I was greeted, and staff was attentive. I ordered the Classic Benedict's with county potatoes. To be honest I'm always disappointed by country potatoes elsewhere, but not here! They were well seasoned, the touch of rosemary, the fresh diced peppers and onions made them the best county potatoes I've ever had. We've wanted to try this spot since we've heard such warming things about it. Unfortunately today was not a warning day. It's started with the coffee bar guy and the waitress cashier runner whatever she is not liking I asked if they had sparkling or bottled water. I tried to be very polite since it's really just a personal preference. Once ordered we were told the waitress will be right with us, she wasn't but then finally arrived. Began taking our orders, when she was asked if there was white bread she literally cut my mom off and said no and went down her list of options. We ordered and went on with our conversation after saying thank you as gratefully as possible. We waited and waited and guess what? WAITED for 45-50 min We watched her send our ticket order late! She tended to literally 3-4 of her tables consistently, nicely, and politely. When it came to us it felt like we bothered her. When we finally decided the wait was long enough and simply wanted to pay for our drinks and leave so we weren't a hinder to her tables or day. As we told her we wanted to pay our food finally left the window which was sitting there long enough for the milk forth on o it cappuccino to get hard and our food to come to like warm to room temp. she had the nerve to speak to her back of house in front of me saying "they want to walk out" as if us waiting there for 50 min. It was not busy, it was not bustling. She treated us like we vividly were the issue. No apology no acknowledgment for the wait. She wanted to catch and attitude again. This experience was soo deeply off putting. Mistakes are mistakes but there was absolutely zero effort in making right. I'd STRONGLY URGE you all to not ask for bottled or sparkling water because you'll piss off the waitress in the denim and then you'll get dismissed and forgotten about like we did. Wife and I decided to stop in on a Saturday morning. Place was empty but filled up after we arrived. Staff was attentive and friendly. Coffee really hit the spot. We ordered biscuits and gravy and "ground beef hash." No corned beef here. While it didn't look like much (see photo) it was hearty and tasty. I asked one of the waitresses for recommendations for us tourists. Another waitress (Mariette) approached us and suggested that we take a drive out to Cape Town/Petrolia and Cape Mendocino. Our breakfast was cooked nicely but took longer then expected given were only 2 other tables in the place. My husband enjoyed his ham and eggs with country potatoes. First of all we got there 5 minutes before they closed and they still let me and my husband and 2 of our kids stay. I had the burger and homemade onion rings they were so good. We stopped here around 10:30 or so on a rainy Sunday morning on our way down to Avenue of the Giants from Arcata. The place was pretty busy with what seemed like a mix of locals and some tourists. We were greeted right away and they set up a table for us in a few minutes. The servers there seemed to have a lot of hustle but it took a while for us to be acknowledged again once we sat down. The menu is simple breakfast fare but seems a cut above a diner-with the focus on fresh and local ingredients when possible. The prices reflect that-$8 for two eggs, potatoes and toast seemed a bit steep for the area. Omelettes were $12. No matter, the plates coming out looked amazing so we ordered on. The scrambled eggs were done perfectly, the potatoes crisp and seasoned and the biscuit nice and fluffy. They also make their own jam-the blackberry one was on point! Service was pleasant, if slow-it took a while for our food and then to cash out. It's probably not a place to go if you don't have time to linger. This cozy café features some hardy dishes that were perfect for setting out on a day of adventure. Staff was kind and attentive, very friendly in conversation as well. One of the owners was making rounds to the tables with samples of their in-shop beef jerky, salami, and mustard which served as an exciting sample plate appetizer of their locally made products.
