Its been a long while since I had a decent Tex-Mex meal so I decided to come here. I ordered the Tamale combo (taco, enchilada, and a tamale accompanied by beans & rice) - very generous portions as well so I definitely had enough to get full twice. The quality of the food is definitely good; a lot of cheese as well as meat chunks on everything which I did enjoy. Food quality is pretty good, tastes just like how a Tex-Mex meal should taste. Service here was friendly as well as very swift. I do recommend this place for those who love a good Tex-Mex meal with great taste as well as hefty portions. read more

They are fast with everything the Pop service and bar drinks come out fast. We actually delayed our main food order to get a chat in a the table with our guest. I have loved eating here in the past so I came here twice recently. The first time was a special occasion, and the chips and queso were delicious. However when I got my enchilada, the chicken inside was totally dry and flavorless. This happened to me again a second time coming at a later date. This place is near and dear to me. They have been a place I've gone to ever since I was a child with my grandparents. Prettt decent food and good service. Had started taking my own family there about once a quarter and went on business lunches about just as often (so about 6 times a year, I'd patronize them). So, one day the family and I drove out excited to try them after not being out of the house much for a few months because of the pandemic. However, after we found out that, thankfully, restaurant workers weren't dropping dead from helping provide for the public for many months, around June or July, 2020 we just assumed they'd be open for business and drove out to have a family meal. Sadly, they were only open for to go. It was way too hot outside to have a picnic and going home was not an option. Businesses that refuse to open apparently don't need business so be it. I see no reason to patronize places that feel like they're perfectly fine refusing business. Good luck to them! read more

"MEH-xican - MEH, MEH, MEH." I met friends who live in Omaha and told me Fernando's was 'the best' Mexican food in Omaha. There were chips and salsa on the table when I arrived and they were ok. The salsa was a bit watery for my taste, I like chunky salsa that sticks to the chip and this was more like tomato, onion and pepper dice in tomato water. It was not thick and you literally have to spoon the salsa on to the chip because none of it sticks to the chip on a regular dip/scoop. The chips were crunchy, not greasy so they were good. We ordered chicken and steak fajitas. Each order came with a plate that had a small cup of guacamole, sour cream and the watery salsa. Warm flour tortillas were also brought with the meat. The meat was cooked with onion and green pepper and was adequately seasoned but nothing spectacular. This is fajitas on the Qdoba, Pancheros, Chipotle level - good, not great. I also ordered a margarita which was also watery or tasted a bit watered down. Overall, it was ok but nothing to go back for and I will not be returning. There are way too many better Mexican places in Omaha with better food and larger portions. read more

The reason one goes to Fernando's is for the MARGARITAS. We visited Fernando's with a "regular" and were told right off the bat - "We come here to DRINK not EAT". We ordered a pitcher of TOP SHELF margaritas then ordered another one.... We did order the Nacho's with the works & they were tasty - we ate them all - but I definitely have had better one! Tex-Mex = Our family started off with the new queso con chorizo (a spicy Mexican sausage) = EXCELLENT !! My aunt & I had the Vegetarian Plate= a giant spinach & cream cheese enchilada & a guacamole tostada, with side of beans (it's her favorite dish) = SUPER delicious, rich & creamy! My hubby had the fajita chicken quesadilla with side of rice & beans...he wasn't very impressed (quesadilla = BLAND). Chimichanga & enchiladas looked good & family seemed to enjoy them. The only part we really hated = the "salsa" tasted very odd - like tomato paste with a dash of salt & pepper...not anywhere close to any picante or salsa I've ever had (I'm from SW LA and we also previously lived in Houston, so I know a good salsa). If they could improve upon that I'd upgrade to a 5 star rating. I understand not being spicy, but more flavorful would be better. Nice decor, clean, & friendly waitstaff. Since moving to midtown, Fernando's has become my go-to for Mexican food which I typically get delivered due to you know, COVID. As a creature of habit it's usually the El Kitchen Sinko nachos with beef or the hard flour tacos. To be honest, the food is consistently good. Now if you're looking for authenticity or great Mexican good, this probably isn't your place. But I like it and the huge covered patio is nice if you dine-in when the weather is nice. read more

By far the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to. The service was okay overall. Server was nice and food came out fast but that was literally the nicest thing I can say. Chips and salsa were oddly not complementary but I could've gotten over that if they were worth the paying for. The chips weren't normal tortilla but some flaky puff pastry basically. They came with pico de Gallo which was completely fine but had zero flavor for such a normally robust side. The rice was bland as well. The waitress Deanna was one of the worst people I ever met... she never took our appetizer plates after we were done.. she seems like she had more tables than she could handle... burned me with a hot nacho plate and didn't even apologize.. after that she seems like she had a attitude... had to ask her on more than one occasion to refill our tea and water... We were in there a couple of weeks ago and the place was packed. We didn't have to wait too long until our wages came up and asked us if we wanted something to drink. The margaritas were excellent. She then came back and asked to take our order and we got our food within 15 to 20 minutes. I had the enchiladas which were excellent and so did my husband. I believe our waitress was Deanna and she was very attentive even though she had many other tables to wait on. I know she had at least one table of nine people. I would recommend this place anytime. With all the places to get decent Mexican food in Omaha, I can't believe how often I don't argue when someone says "Let's go to Fernando's for 'insert meal name here' ". The food is marginal in its entirety. I keep trying new things here, hoping to find a hidden gem, but I keep finding turds instead. There's a guy who hangs out here and often seats you, who I can only assume is the owner or manager. I've drawn this inference from the fact that if he is not the owner or manager, any other restaurant would throw this guy out of their establishment, as he's cranky, unfriendly, and gives me the creeps. I've tried reaalllllly hard to like Fernandos, but I just can't seem to get on board. Servers, environment & cleanliness is all fine, it's the food where they fall flat. The salsa is watery & lacks the freshness I was hoping for. The queso reminds me of when I was a kid & would make homemade nachos & put a bowl of shredded cheese in the microwave & be left with one large solid chunk of warm cheese. That's actually probably exactly what they do. Okay for an 8 year with zero culinary experience, not okay for a functioning restaurant. I've tried a few things and found the most palatable choice are the fajitas, even though they fall flat with lack of seasoning. Every other meal I've had or seen my family get has been so disgustingly greasy, it's recipe for a long night on the throne. The best part is they leave a basket of tootsie pops on your table for you to take one.. except obviously I take handfuls and shove them in my purse with 0 regrets. All in all, go somewhere else. Decided to stop by again as I knew the drinks would be good. Decided to have a fantastico burrito along with a couple dirty martini's. Food and drinks were delish! First martini was with grey goose. Second martini, who knows as they ran out of grey goose. I do know the second martini left me with a warm feeling that took 40 minutes or so to fade. Burrito was very good. I only finished half. The second half should make a good dinner for another night. Service is quick. Food is good. If I had any complaint, it would be that the martini only came with one olive. This is Americanized Tex Mex and I like it. The non-complimentary pico is so fresh and spicy. The accompanying chips are fried flour tortillas. I prefer corn but these were a nice change. Very flakey! The puffy tacos were standard. The service is attentive but not overbearing. I appreciated the large bowl of tootsie pops presented to the table at the end of the meal. Mexican restaurants are my favorite. Hadn't been here in nearly 7 years but remember having LOVED it, so we went back. It was a huge disappointment. Service was not great and neither was the food. Ordered two tacos with rice and didn't care for it. Look at the picture... Where did the rice end and the tacos begin? It was like they took a massive handful of lettuce and chunks of cheese and just threw it all on the plate. I did t finish the tacos, rice, or even chips and guac which, as I mentioned before, is usually my favorite. Also, even though this is a "traditional" American-Mexican restaurant, don't expect chips and salsa when you sit down. Huge let down! We ended up ordering chips and salsa but it is actually pico-de-gallo, not the salsa usually served at Mexican restaurants. Just overall a let down unfortunately. read more

Very good chimichanga but that's about all I have to say that's positive. Service was just terrible, we were sat immediately but then waited fifteen minutes to place our appetizer order. The food was unceremoniously dumped on the table without a word and I nearly burned myself on the scorching hot plate. Fernando's was a fairly standard Mexican joint with all the typical dishes you would assume would be at a standard Mexican joint. I opted for the enchilada/taco combo, and it tasted like a standard, typical enchilada/taco combo. No surprises here. Average food and atmosphere. read more

I've been to Fernando's quite a few times since we have a friend in the area we dine with periodically. It has been hit and miss but as many others have said mostly middle-of-the-road good. I usually always get the cheese enchilada and/or the seafood enchilada. The thing I like best about Fernando's is eating outside on their covered patio on a really nice day. read more

This place did a nice job with the large take out order. My fried flour tortilla tacos were excellent. They have flour tortilla chips and nachos as well... which I tend to prefer over corn these days. I've had better beans and rice, these were just normal. I also had a chile relleno. It's seems like I'm of the same mind as a lot of people. We come here often, we don't love it, but definitely don't hate it. This is a place that you can find an item or two on the menu you like and you'll keep ordering it. If you venture out too often, you'll get burned as not everything is great. That being said, we always opt for the chicken nachos with very very light cheese. Even then they usually come with too much cheese. The fried shell tacos are pretty darn good as well as the beef and cheese enchilada. Their margaritas are some of the best for the standard, non top shelf variety. The nice thing is they aren't as sweet as most mexican restaurants. You can actually drink two or more without feeling you just downed a couple pixie sticks. By far and away our favorite thing at Fernando's is the green chilis. They drizzle a little on the nachos, but we always ask for a huge side of it. Sometimes it is burn your face off hot. Other times it is very mild. It just depends on the time of year and/or if they got a hot batch of chilis or not. When the season is right or the moons have aligned and the chilis are mega hot we get to Fernando's as much as possible. read more

If you are in the mood for GREASY Mexican then come here. I only come about once every few years because if not, my arteries would be full of cheese. I love cheese more than I should but everything is covered in it, so just be prepared for that. My soft taco tasted like cheesy grease, it was so greasy tasting that it was hard to eat. My beef enchilada was pretty good, I would go back to having the chicken enchilada next time I go. The staff was very attentive and everyone helped out. I was very pleased with that. When you get the bill you get a basket of tootsie pops to choose from so it is a very fun way to finish off your meal. read more
