Went back tonight because I was craving my favorite quesadilla in town. The Sonora quesadilla with ground beef inside. If I could just say, the jumbo house margaritas here are amazing. One does me in to literally levels me. Restaurant was quiet today as I got there early on a Thursday and my waitress service was excellent by Tina. Always enjoy my food and service here. All the reviews that you're reading are true. We recently catered Fernando's for a company event, and I would say it was the most "okayest" nacho bar I've ever had. The chips were fine and the beef was fine, but the chicken was shredded and hardly had any flavor. The queso was OK and the salsa that came on. It were just fine. Overall, it was generally very bland tasting food. Caterer was really nice and did a good job setting up and the price was generally OK for as many people as we had fed. Got an order to go, so I can't really comment on the fine in experience. Food was OK. Both the ground beef and chicken was a little dry. Wished I'd gotten more sauce to moisten it up. Stopped here today, with my friend, for a Margarita. There was no spicy margarita on the menu but the waitress nicely offered "we can make it spicy, we'll just add a little jalapeño juice". So, I agreed. Then the bill came- $19.00 for a spicy margarita!!! My friend ordered a regular margarita $11.50 (same size) plus nachos, plus pico-& was charged the same as me for ALL of that. Really??? Approx $8.00 more for "a little jalapeño juice"? Outrageous!! I would have NEVER agreed to a $19 margarita. Then, the waitress comes back and says the $19.00 charge doesn't make sense to her either. She tells me the charge should be the same as a "skinny margarita" which is $1.00 more than a regular margarita but, there was nothing she could do about it since the manager wasn't available to make the correction. Fernandos has been my Mexican restaurant of choice for 30 years. I hadn't been there for over a year due to illness, and because I now live in Iowa, so it is a bit further to drive. However, last week I did go - and was stunned that they no longer serve complimentary chips and salsa. (Also, that they used to offer every diner a Tootsie Roll Pop at the end of the meal!) These were part of the traditional experience for years and years. And the prices have increased - without upgrading the surroundings - to the point that I will think twice before returning. Not the end of the world, but enough to make me seek out new places. read more

Compared to the Fernando's on 114th and Dodge this place it great!!!! I like to stop for lunch, even though I live in Council Bluffs across the river. The servers are outstanding - quick, check back, provide extra napkins! The food is good - I usually get a chicken taco. The meat is trimmed well - no gristle. This is THE WORST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN OMAHA. STAY AWAY. Got there because of Yelp reviews. It was empty, waitress comes takes our order and wasn't so personable. We ordered Fernando's nachos... it was LITERALLY chips, super dried over cooked ground beef(looked like dust), and a Glob of cheap cheese old cheese. Then they put the nachos in the oven to melt the cheese to the point that chips were burnt. That was the plate. So gross.. I have never NOT EATEN OR LOST MY APPETITE IN A RESTAURANT UNTIL NOW. My friend ordered street tacos... OMG.. they were some type of small tortilla covered in grease and then slapped some dry tasteless meat. Only good thing is the Corona's. This experience was pre-pandemic. I have had dinner in 38 of the 50 states plus all over Europe and China. This was easily the worst dining experience I've ever had and that was before I found a hair in my food. Mexican is my favorite cuisine and I lived walking distance from this place. They will never see me again. If it were free I would not go back. From bad guacamole to bad entrees to watered down and flavorless margaritas, this was DISGUSTING. We ate at Fernando last night. My mother and I were in town visiting family and they took us here for dinner. I must say that is wasn't a very memorable experience. My sister and mother ordered the tacos and I ordered the seafood enchilada. The chicken tacos had dry tasteless chicken, and the rice and refried beans were very bland as well. I had the Seafood enchilada and what a train wreck that was. There was so much cheese and sauce on it I couldn't taste any seafood at all. After the first bite I opened up the the enchilada to see only 2 tiny salad size shrimp in it along with a ton more cheese. Very disappointing!! I showed this to our server and asked her to show the chef that the seafood was almost non existent. She just gave me a discussed look and didn't not even replay or apologize. I couldn't believe the reaction she gave. If anything was memorable of the whole meal it was the server's reaction to my comment. I will definitely not return to this restaurant again. Just when I thought Fernando's could get no better, they got me! We stopped for an early dinner. We chose cheese dip and white flour tortillas as an appetizer. My companion devoured the seafood enchiladas dinner, until he couldn't move. I opted for the beef tacos, and could barely finish one (the other came home). The simplicity of this elegant offering was delicious. Perfectly spiced meat, sweet tomatoes, green lettuce, cheese. What more can you ask for? Condiments were readily available. Found this place on another adventure for good Mexican food. If my wife was writing this review she would be giving it 5 stars, she loves their deep fried flour tortillas and their Chimichanga, but I am originally from Southern California and tend to lean towards the more authentic Mexican restaurants, so I can only give Fernando's 3 stars. Although the food is good, the fact that I have to buy chips if I want chips and salsa just kind of rubs me the wrong way, that fact that the chips are flour tortillas instead of corn does not sit well with me, and the salsa is made with Chipotle / Habanero instead of the more traditional salsa is a bit disappointing. All that being said, I have come to enjoy a few selections on their menu, and have recently tried the Queso, which was very tasty. We do frequent this establishment from time to time and will continue to do so ... they have a good beer selection, and their food is pretty good, even if it isn't as authentic as I am used to in a Mexican restaurant. read more

Well, now I have decided that second chances aren't always what they are cracked up to be and sometimes not worthy. This would be the case here. I am appalled by the way the servers treated their guests. Perhaps they need a Webster's Dictionary to read what the definition of HOSPITALITY means because they certainly don't seem to know what it is. With so many great restaurants in this city, one would think that a restauranteur would properly train their staff to treat their great asset, their guests with proper etiquette and decorum. We've been going to Fernando's for years and it's always been one of go to's for quick, tasty food. Some would argue that it's Americanized Mexican, but whatever you call it, I call it delicious. Prices are very reasonable and there's a good array of apps, combo meals other yummy options. Some of our favorites are the fried shell taco, beef enchilada, fajitas and the ever so traditional pico de gallo. We always ask for both kinds of chips to get a mixture of flour and corn. There's even a section for the Gringos featuring a decent cheeseburger, however, I wish they would bring back the waffle fries. I don't normally drink margaritas, but I certainly do here. Happy hour (only at the pacific location I believe) offers 1/2 priced margaritas, including the liters. It's recently been purchased by new owners so there have been some cosmetic updates to the space but the food, familiar faces and great service all remain the same. Awesome customer rewards program with punch cards and frequently mailed coupons. Fernando's never disappoints! read more

It's definitely a more Americanized Mexican restaurant. Go to South Omaha if you're looking for something more authentic. The rice was bland but it's a decent dish. I liked the beans. I spent an extra $5 or so for a side of guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, and pickled jalapeños and they were not in our to-go bag. Quick. Fresh. Big portions. I can eat three meals off of one purchase! Lunch, breakfast, and then lunch again! It's a massive amount of food for one person. However, my hubby--can and will eat it all by himself in one sitting, so to each his own. Love the combos, the carnitas tacos are one of my favorite and that green sauce is amazing. El Bees cousin to the T. Even the chips and "salsa" is the same {they might be owned by the same and I just never knew it}, down to the Tootsie Roll suckers. Went there last night again, and still not too much of a fan. Tried their shrimp fajitas, and the smell of the cast iron handle cover {BLEACH}, was so overpowering it sorta tainted the whole thing and had to remove it and move it a few tables away. Also snagged a single chile relleno - always do when I eat Mexican food - and it was SO greasy from all the unnecessary cheese {they don't have cheese, chives etc on them in real life}, that I missed the actual chile! It should just be a traditional chile relleno if you're going to offer them. The breading on it; ack. My partner in crime had the chicken burrito, and it was loaded with chicken. I always hate it when I have to post a less than stellar review, but we were disappointed with the food we received from Fernando 's. We liked the frejoles, rice, and sopapillas. We ordered two tacos, and Bookguy liked one of them but not the other one. Since I surprised him with the order, he didn't know what he was getting, so he wasn't sure which taco he liked and which one he didn't. The main problem was the sauce. It looked and tasted more like a mole sauce. He probably would have liked the tacos with a different type of sauce, but that was all that came with it. I ordered the vegetable fajitas and it was supposed to come with pico to Gallo, guacamole and sour cream. All it came with was flour tortillas and vegetables. I didn't like the flavor of the tortillas so I only had one of those and the vegetables were rather rather greasy. The next day I combined the leftover vegetables, rice, and beans with some salsa I had at home, and it made a decent meal. I am a little confused because there was no mention of any salsa, taco sauce, or mole sauce, and there was a mention of pico de gallo, but I didn't get anything that I recognized as being pico de Gallo. To me, pico is a bit chunky with recognizable tomato and cilantro. There was nothing like that included with our order. read more

I absolutely love this place for both sit down and takeout. When I bring my Mom here, they seat us in a place that is easy for Mom to navigate with her walker and are very attentive. Went to Fernando's on 3-15-23. Stupid in the entry for 15 before grabbing menus. Server finally seated. We got drinks immediately and asked for a minute to decide. We waited for 20 more minutes while the server walked around a nearly empty restaurant and then disappeared in a back room. We left without seeing her again. read more

They are fast with everything the Pop service and bar drinks come out fast. We actually delayed our main food order to get a chat in a the table with our guest. Its been a long while since I had a decent Tex-Mex meal so I decided to come here. I ordered the Tamale combo (taco, enchilada, and a tamale accompanied by beans & rice) - very generous portions as well so I definitely had enough to get full twice. The quality of the food is definitely good; a lot of cheese as well as meat chunks on everything which I did enjoy. Food quality is pretty good, tastes just like how a Tex-Mex meal should taste.
