I really enjoy this place. Unlike rainbow cafe bakery, they have steamed veggie buns, two of those can be a meal. I've tried there hot dog bun, steamed custard bun, steamed chicken bun. This is like any other fay da and they are always well stocked. Only complaint is that they don't really accommodate eating inside because there is only three measly tables with chairs. Not sure who design the store, but there are definitely better layouts they could have chosen. Not really a place you can sit and eat and enjoy the space. Looking for a quick bite to eat with only 5 minutes to go before my train. picked up a tuna roll which was this cylindrical bread with a scoop of tuna baked into it. I've never had anything like it. Surprisingly good, and filling. I also had a chocolate cinnamon bun for dessert that was really good too. Less than $2 each! Next time I plan to do a better job of exploring the neighborhood. Brand spankin' new location of one of NYC's most widespread, reliable Chinese bakery chains. I was surprised to see them open since the Chinese community isn't as concentrated in Woodside as others. Prices are identical to the Flushing location, but this one still has that "Grand Opening!" sparkle before it develops the accumulated grossness of people squatting at the tables for hours. All the buns are fresh and neatly arranged, cakes in their display case definitely looked fresher than the condensation-blurred case at the Flushing location. We got a small mango mousse cake - always a tasty, light, cute go-to from Fay Da. The manager (?), an attentive, friendly Asian American guy, assured me that the cakes were all made fresh that morning or the night before. It was indeed very fresh and exactly what we were looking for. Classic buns to get would be roast pork bun (with a dark, smooth, glossy top) and pineapple bun (crackly, streusel-like yellow top) - but I'm likelier to go for the hot, pillowy steamed buns with different fillings in the heated cases near the counter. Same price, twice the happiness, especially as it gets colder! It was nice to see this place and not be in the city. I didn't expect to come across it so it was a welcomed surprise. Although I wasn't looking for sweets, I could not avoid the temptation. I went with a sugared doughnut, raisin and cheese bread and my weakness the Napoleon (sliced). I have to say that the pastry did not satisfy me and were not as enjoyable as the Chinatown location. The Napoleon especially was disappointing, somewhat dry and lacking that unique taste. The staff was nice and the bubble tea was very good. Sucked there was no bathroom. This Fay Da has the friendliest service I've ever encountered, it's almost a little weird, but definitely appreciate it. Chinese establishments aren't really known for their service, but this spot has some really friendly cashiers. Prices have gone up since it opened, but it's understandable because minimum wage did jump by $2, and by the rules of inflation, everything else goes up. Most items stay under $2 though, which is still pretty amazing, so I can't really complain about that. They have the Garlic bun here unlike the other places in Queens, which is nice because it's one of my favorites! I wish it had more garlic though. They also have a little bit more variety of cakes here than in Flushing, namely the Mocha Truffle and the Pink strawberry cake which is really cute. read more

Leaving a review after visiting this place regularly for the past two years. The stuff is really hit or miss, especially the items inside the heated case. I've purchased heated items from inside the case (specifically the lotus leaf wrap) and multiple times it was rancid (spoiled). The individual cakes inside the case were also stale on multiple occasions (freshness depends on how long the tray was out). I understand that the store's items are not fresh every day but selling stale or rancid items to save on food cost is a health hazard. Fresh!! Unique style baked goods. They have amazingly moist Japanese cheesecakes available for only $20! (10 inches) or great dinner time desserts, like their vanilla roll ($12). With a mixture of savory, and pastry offerings - something for everyone. The staff is efficient and fast, which helps a lot as their stores tend to be located directly next to bus stops and trains, (which draws the commuter crowd, that wait inside until bus/train arrives, due to bad rain/winds). We stop and Fay Da every chance we get! Have been to this one (Woodside), Chinatown, and both places in Flushing and all have been very good and priced reasonably! Have the best sesame balls and taro cakes i've ever had. Stuffed buns and egg pastries are good as well. Recommend stopping in next time you are near one! read more

So far so good!!!!!!!! I've been coming here with my mother since it opened. The staff is super friendly - very consistent customer service I must add, and I don't know why but that's a rarity in Queens. We always get their tasty little coffee and the Japanese style cheesecake which never disappoints, very fluffy and yummy. I haven't tried their other offerings so I can't vouch for them, maybe in the future if I ever feel more adventurous. We love the location, it's right by the 61ST Woodside station. Steamed meat and vegetable bun ($1.35) Highly recommended. At the cashier, moist, jiggly-plumpy buns wait in the steamer. It is quite large (3" dia) to make a meal. Many flavors (incl the custard and bbq). The place: Less than a block from Woodside subway and LIRR station. Very clean and staff are friendly and efficient. Seating is somewhat limited (approx. 10?). The price point: excellent value for the buck! The taste: The bun is delicate and slightly sweet as expected, and the filling is juicy and tender. Seasoning is soy sauce-sugar-rice wine based, not too spicy (bao novices-friendly). If you like black vinegar with the meat-veggie bun, BYO (I know it tastes great). Dough: Some baos in NYC have dense dough, while many have fluffy textured dough. Both are great - it is the dough-filling balance. In the first bite, good baos feel "right" in my mouth (a denser dough needs a robust filling in both texture and flavor, and vice versa). Fay Da's buns have a great balance. Miscellaneous: There is a little "film" underneath, which prevents the bun from sticking to the steamer. Fay Da uses films that never rips when you peel it to eat (some places use paper that rips easily and sometimes makes its way into your mouth). This is a great feature. Traditionally, either bamboo leaves or thin-sliced wood shavings were used. Today, people use parchment paper; depending on the type of paper used, they become moisture-saturated in steamers and become "mushy." (Hydrolysis, anyone?) read more

I've been to a different location before with always a good experience. First time trying this location and such a disappointment. I ordered a honey green tea and a pecan cheesecake, all to go. The green tea was fine, and after a bite of cheesecake iy was hard, definitely not fresh and after removing the wrapping paper I noticed it had mold growing. I like chinese bakery goods. they are soft, fresh and moist and have cream icing. I have bought from fay da bakery many times in chinatown. now there is this new one in queens. I stopped by this afternoon and bought 3 slices of cake. When I got home, I discovered ALL were STALE and dry. Not fresh at all. Really bad. Nothing like I have had before from the bakeries in chinatown. What is it with queens ? Why is it that quality plummets as soon as product gets across the bridge. I asked for steamed pork bao. For the past few months, this place has been my go to bakery whenever I need to grab something on the go. However, ever since the opening the quality of this place has gone down. I've been to a lot of better quality bakeries and honestly I feel that this place would not had survived if it wasn't for the lack of Asian bakeries in the neighborhood. The trays are dirty with oil left behind from the pastries that the customers picked out. The price has been increasing rather rapidly because of the lack of competition. Also, do not get any desserts from inside the display because they are NOT fresh. Came here with my sister to get cakes and they were so hard. Be prepare to wipe your mouths with your sleeves because they would only give you like one or two pieces of napkin even when you bought pastries enough for four people. I was really happy Fay da came to Woodside. Finally a chinese bakery really close to me! My first time there I was surprises with the layout and there seemed to be more options. But now I am starting to think it is about the same as thw other Fay da in elmhurst. My cousin was happy they served the custard bun here because the flushing location does not serve it. It seems like they have all the classics and definitely all tastes good. I did actually have some issues with the creme based pastries/cakes, they did taste a bit unusual. Maybe just different ingredients. I also agree with a fellow reviewer that the checkout situation is odd and not very efficient. Though the staff is friendly, I think they need to have a better check our system because the last time I went they took a pastry off my mother's tray, bagged it then gave it to another customer who left with her stuff. Me and my mom were confused how this happened! While we were standing there ordering tea with our tray. Also I hear a lot of popular items like the pork bun and sou milk do sell out fast.
