Have been a fan of Fay Da Bakery's Chinatown and West Village locations for years. So, having spotted this Fay Da on Broadway (technically in Elmhurst) when heading for the main Jackson Heights subway station, decided to drop on in for an afternoon treat and refreshment. Regularly, I gravitate towards the inexpensive baked goods at Fay Da and this was no exception. Decided on the Chocolate Walnut Bun, which the closest I can reference it to is a lightly chocolate, small babka. As a drink, I wanted a Matcha Oat Latte. Unfortunately, they don't have any non-dairy alternatives, so I stuck with milk. Have to say, it was over $6 for the Matcha Latte, which I thought was a lot considering the size. (If you're by Matto Espresso, they have much better one, with non-dairy alternatives, and their prices are much more reasonable!) Took everything to the adjacent seating section to enjoy. It was all good, but next time I'm going to avoid a pricey beverage like that Matcha Latte, but stick to the reasonably priced small baked goods. Should add, they also have beautiful cakes. Based on previous tastes at other Fay Da's, their flavors lean to more sweet over robust (like not so fruity if there's supposed to be fruit). Would recommend checking Fay Day out! read more

Got : 1) 2/5 M Thai milk tea ($5.50ish). Thai tea can def be stronger & less artificial. Not the worst I've had but nowhere near as good as Quickly's. 2) 3/5 milk cream bun: There's no cream filling in this bun. Why's it called a cream bun? The deception is insane. Don't call something a cream bun if there's no cream in or on it. Instead, the filling is a light layer of coconut crumbs & some overly sweet thing they add to the top of some of their buns 3) 1/5 matcha Japanese cheesecake: What up with the flavor? Very disappointed! I've been going to Fay Da for years the forest hills location and the west 4th location. I think west 4th is the best one, even forest hills and definitely this location the coffee tea was sad. It was all coffee ground taste and no tea taste. The chocolate walnut bun wasn't as sweet, less condensed milk on top and less raisins. I hope the other things are good but if this is a chain the whole $10 minimum on card is also getting tiring. read more

Came here looking for cakes on my way to visit my parents. I haven't been in this area in the last 10years and was surprised to see Fay Da here. It used to be a small bakery with a lovely spread. I would come for the sponge cupcakes + 飯糰 fan taun (pork & cruller rice roll). Those are kinda hard to find these days. This Fay Day is large, spacious and clean. Lots of light which made it bright. Interesting to note that all of the Fay Da Bakery that I have been to are accessible for they are near a subway station or not too far from one. This Fay Da Bakery is right by the 74th Street Subway Station. You can see the bakery shop from across the bus depot. Folks near Elmhurst Hospital just walk up two block on Broadway heading towards 74th Street. Bakery is clean. Once you walk in grab a plate and a tong. Just open the handle and pull out . Display cases really nice and visible with items described. Decisions on what to get. They all are fun to try out. My favorite is the egg tarts, and check out the steamed stuff by the cash register. Staff will get items for you and put in wax bag. My friend had the chicken sandwich for breakfast and it was fresh and with nice chunk of meat. This is a heavy traffic bakery. I would have given this place 5 stars but, tonight I walked into the shop and was craving something sweet. I noticed that all of the pre-packaged soft cookies were made with lard, also known as pig fat. A lot of people don't eat (specific) animal by-products! Then I looked at the white bread ingredients by chance and also noticed lard as a main ingredient. I have no idea if the other eats I've had there also have lard as a key ingredient, being that the shelved items (where one uses the tongs to grab and go) only list what it may contain like dairy, nuts, etc.; things that one might be allergic to. SERIOUSLY?!?!? I'm so appalled by this! I'm fearful to know the answer. I immediately felt a pit form in my stomach. I left after feeling disgusted and overwhelmed. I really hope they start placing all ingredients used (not just what might cause an allergy to strike) by all of the in-store products that they sell. Other than that, before knowing (yes, ignorance was blissful), the foods are great and tasty. My favorites are/were the sweet potato puff, the steamed red bean puff, the lemon pastry puff, basically anything puffy! The fried chicken sandwich is pretty good too. It comes with lettuce and coleslaw in a puffy hot-dog-looking bun. The breads (before I knew).... are tasty but they go bad after two days. Mold! You have been forewarned! They also have sweet (mini or whole) cakes. Great for birthdays and such. The chocolate strawberry mousse is very good. The passion-fruit was ew, but if your taste-buds are set for it, it might be yummm for you! Drinks: Coffee tastes sour to me. I bought it once and never again! The bubble teas are pretty good, but if you want amazing bubble teas head to 82nd Street. There's a Kung-Fu (by Roosevelt Ave) Tea and also a Coco's (close to 37th Ave) around there. Towards closing time, they start to clean up so if you're anti broom sweeps whilst you're noshing away, get up and head out. There is no public restroom. The place wasn't busy when I entered. The food offered at bakeries is usually eating for breakfast. This place used to be a mom-and-pop bakery similar to the Double Rainbow restaurant. Most of the items available in the morning are already sold out. I choose their pies and one of their steamed buns. There weren't many customers there as it was lunchtime. read more

Fay Da isn't primarily a bubble tea shop, but it's my go-to when I'm craving a milk tea with boba. They have a few other flavors as well, like matcha. A big draw is how affordable the price of bubble tea is here, compared to many newer spots that have opened up. read more

Fay Da is one of the bakeries I frequent when I go to NYC. Prices are very reasonable and everything tastes good. Generally I take out enough for the next couple of days. This particular fay da is not crowded. The one in Manhattan Chinatown is very crowded. That is a big plus here. Taro puff was heavier than I thought. Pork bun and pork floss bun were all good. Brand new little bakery. It's pretty big and right off the train station. So you can quickly grab some treats and go on your way. They have a seating area past the register, which I didn't notice (till I walked out.) Everything here is dirt cheap. I paid $3 for 2 slices of chocolate cake. Now I'm going to have to keep some cash on me whenever I'm in the area. Cash only is annoying but they have a huge selection of sweets. It's really big and cozy inside. After a day of teaching, this was an indulgent random treat for myself. I would go into the bakery to buy a hot tea with milk (lai cha) with sugar and milk. Then to accompany my beverage, I would also order a pastry. Some of my favorites from here would be the almond twist, the egg tarts, the coconut cream bun. I also like the hot items inside the metal warmer with glass display filled with chicken or chinese sausage. It's a great treat! I was stuffed from lunch so decided to bypass - however when one of my colleagues said they served tea I thought it would be a nice finish to the food. I decided to be bad and get iced milk tea. It was pretty good - sweet, smooth, rich yet light. While I can't account for their baked goods, the tea was a solid offering and a nice cool treat. Would I come back? Was happy to discover another Fay Da opened up in such a convenient location since I love the chain. However, this one in particular was disappointing compared to others around the area (like the grand ave one). The selection of breads/sweets are rather lacking. I've gotten ham&egg buns and all the slices of ham and egg were very thin, 90% bread. This seems to be the case across many choices. Prices are slightly on the higher side as well. Space has a few tables and is relatively small. I've haven't had the best experience with the staff on multiple occasions. Many of them seem to be rushing to check out customers even when the line isn't long? I'd say best bet is to get the steamed buns instead of the regular ones, probably worth your money. Next time, I'll take a trip to the grand avenue Fay Da instead. read more

They also have a few savory treats like pork bun, read bean bun, vegetable bun. The red bean bun had too little filling. The mango mochi tasted good but it's consistency wasn't that great. The egg custard had a good crust. Everything here is pretty cheap for a bakery but not in comparison to other Asian bakeries. Currently they are offering $100 cash for $130 gift cards. Please be aware the gift cards come in $10 increments and you have to spend all $10 at each purchase. Also the store is cash only. Overall this is a great addition to the neighborhood. One suggestion would be if Fay Da offers more healthy options such as whole wheat bread or organic selections. read more

The growth of Chinese businesses from Elmhurst into the Jackson Heights area continues, and one of the most recent additions in the last year is a Fay Da right outside the Jackson Heights train station. Located on the corner of a building this branch has a bit more room than the one I normally go to in the area near Grand Avenue (which shrunk its footprint last year). When you enter, the check out counter is in front of you. Walk to the right and that is where all the familiar buns are stored. In the middle is an island with various loaves of bread for purchase. Deeper in the display are cookies. Perhaps the coolest thing about this Fay Da is the way the buns are stored. Instead of lifting a clear plastic door and scooping up your buns, they are set in trays that slide *out*, making it much easier to get to them, especially if all the ones in the front rows are gone. I found this system much better than what you find in other branches and I hope they expand this feature to other new shops. At the cashier they have a shelf for steamed buns and another for egg tarts and warm pastries. The staff was quick and nice, though much to my dismay no one there spoke Cantonese so there was some pantomiming involved to check out. It's great to see a branch in this area and so conveniently located. If you're in the area, this is worth a visit. read more

Been here twice to get pastries to eat during overnight shifts. Compared to the other Asian pastry places I've been to, the breads here have a bit less finesse than I'm used to. Double Rainbow Bakery does a better job with their breads. Of the four items I've tried, the taro bun was the best one. The filling didn't taste artificial at all and had just the right amount of subtle sweetness. The hot dog bun as pretty good as well. The hot dog itself tasted great and the bread complemented it well. I did not like their pineapple bun at all. Maybe it's because I bought it in the evening so it had been sitting out for a few hours, but the bread itself was a bit too hard and the crumbly top did not have the texture of a great pineapple bun. And, really, when you're eating a pineapple bun, it's all about the top. Double Rainbow and Rainbow Bakery definitely have the best pineapple bun in the area. I'll need to come back to try their coffee milk tea. I hear it's really good. But I'll prob skip the Asian breads and get them at Rainbow instead. read more

Their pastries and bread are really good and baked fresh daily. This same location has always been a bakery but changed ownership every two years. The place is cash only so remember to bring cash. I used up all my change at the supermarket across the street and I only had a whole $50 left. To be fair, I tried to purchase multiple things instead of buying just one bread with a $50 bill. The cashier took my bill and gestured for the other cashier to look. Then the other cashier cursed in Chinese in my face "w*f, f**ing big bills". This is a new branch of this popular chinatown bakery--i have been to the canal street chinatown fay da branch in manhattan. In comparison this new Fay Da bakery is larger, more spacious and dare I say more bougie than the chinatown branch. The prices too are bit more bougie or more than what's typically charged in chinatown bakeries ( for example egg tarts are usually $0.80 to $1.00 in chinatown but here in this new Fay Da Bakery it's $1.45). Still relative to American or French type pastry bakeshops this is still inexpensive. There is a large variety of pastries on offer including some non traditional desserts for chinese bakery--like buche de noel & chocolate mousse. Today i bought egg tarts, red bean filled sesame ball & beef curry puff. All excellent, fresh & moist. Especially the curry puff was flaky & warm. They're cash only which is the only thing I wish they'd change --i know most chinatown shops & restaurants are cash only but given how this branch has taken a more upscale feel & prices I think it's only fair to accept credit cards read more

I love Fay Da ! I really do ! My kids love their multi color cakes. I was really excited they were opening by my train stop. Went there weekly and one day I order the cake slices and took them home for the kids and found MOLD. I took them straight home and I wrapped it and found MOLD. Disgusting. Like the majority of this chain, I find their breads pretty consistent throughout their stores. I come here almost every week and my favorite to get are the fish sandwich, garlic bun, and golden mung bean. This review is strictly for those, since I get them the majority of the time. The Japanese Cheesecake and Matcha Japanese Cheesecake are also really good. Fish sandwich-they use tartar sauce!! And I can taste fresh lemon juice in it which makes it really refreshing. They use Wild Alaskan Pollock and you can really taste the difference in quality. I'll always pick one up when I'm there. Garlic Bun- one of the only breads that are not sweet, this is a more savory bun that I prefer. The garlic paste they use is soo good, I wish they would put more. The bread is fluffy, airy and not dense at all. It almost melts in your mouth. Golden Mung Bean- I am a huge fan of salted duck yolk, so this one really hits the spot. The filling is a mixture of mung bean and salted duck yolk, but the mung bean doesn't take away from the duck yolk, it actually is a neutral enough taste that the duck yolk flavor really shines through. From my experience duck yolks tend to be quite oily but there is none of that here. Definitely try it if you like salted yolk custard buns. read more

Its also stationed on 74th street the main middle hub of subway going express to the city or going local to the burbs. I've had their chestnut bread, which are basically sweet rolls filled with a chestnut filling. The bread is moist and the filling is lovely without being too sweet. It is a decent bakery but doesn't really compare to rainbow bakery or even other fay da bakeries around queens. I like that it's bright and relatively clean. There are a few seating options but they're usually always taken. What's annoying is that the prices here are higher than at other locations. 1.85 for a bun that typically costs a dollar...or even 85 cents. And the bread quality isn't that great, I personally think rainbow bakery has better quality bread. It is however a huge step up from the Great Taste (?) bakery that was here previously. I do like the tuna fish bun which is in a unique soufflé shell, and the garlic bun. The location is convenient and service is quick & efficient. Cash only! read more

Came here for the first time with extreme happiness at first because I had no idea this bakery existed near my subway stop. Spent about $10 worth of pastries. The outside of the matcha cheesecake (the backside of it) tasted and smelled like it had mold. Almost threw up at first bite because it caught me by surprise. Hope I don't get sick now. The coconut cream pastry tasted like I ate a tub of straight up butter. The cream was absolutely disgusting!! I could've just eaten a stick of butter from my fridge if I wanted that. Surprisingly though, the coconut bread that held the cream was decent. I don't think I'll come back here for the desserts.
