The madeleine was another disappointment: dry and forgettable. To add to the frustration, their policy of not accepting $50 or $100 bills feels unnecessary and inconvenient. The one saving grace, and the reason I'm giving them three stars instead of less, is their financiers. They remain excellent--moist, nutty, and full of flavor, just as I remembered. I truly hope Choc·O·Pain can return to its glory days, because when they're at their best, few bakeries can compare.

The front of Recolecta hails to older times with its plush couch that literally begs you to sit and even take a nap if you're that bold. [I know there is an older gentleman who is, like clockwork, sitting here, minding his own business... but often with his eyes either closed or almost closed. Heck - I would be if I were him!] Recolecta has been a recent addition to the area. I love its soft music and the sense that I can sit back, not rush through my empanada, and leave only when I have to. That is a commodity that more capitalist places like Starbucks have abandoned instead of getting the customers in and out as fast as possible.
