Fay Da has reasonable snacks, drinks and pastries in a very busy section of Elmhurst. The bakery has a self-serve display case for sweet and savory goodies for most under a dollar. Take a tray and tongs and pick away. Coffee, tea, bubble (tapioca) tea is available. Seasonal items, like for Lunar New Year - they offer moon cakes. Plenty of seating abound but beware. Every Friday afternoon, there's a large group of elderly Indonesians that take up two tables and chatting up a storm. Among them is my father. Just steps away from the Grand Ave station and Q53/58/59/60 bus stop. read more

Freshly baked breads, different kinds of buns, cookies and cakes!!!! Yummy, Yummy for my tummy.....they have very good coffee too. My favorites are the Coconut and Milk Cream buns. I try not to pass by daily on my way to work in the mornings because I am scared of the calories.....THEY REGISTER with me RIGHT AWAY....... and the prices .....less than a dollar....very affordable. The only problem I find is most of the asian people after having their coffee, does not leave right away....they overstay there and read their papers and hangout with their friends ....leaving customers with no table., and the staff does not say anything. read more

This store is very clean. The service is a hit or miss, but you can't take it personally because they do have to handle a large volume of people coming in and out. Their bread is consistent, and I always feel like I have to get one of each every time I stop by! My favorite is the hot dog wrap and the tuna bun. The taro pastry too! I also really enjoy their Honey Lemon drink! It's very refreshing to drink. Their milk tea is also not bad, it's made with real tea and light cream. read more

Fay-da continues to be one of the best bakeries. The buns here are made daily and is always fresh. I do not know how they make their bun so nice and fluffy, but its really nice and fluffy. It is a great place to grab breakfast on the way to work if you live in the area. It is around the corner from the Grand Ave subway station. My favorites are the pork bun, milk cream, and pineapple buns. and Of course their Egg tarts, which is kept in a heater, so when you buy it, its as if you got it out fresh from the oven. Their drinks are also amazing. Its not water down and they actually make it according to your taste. If you say, no sugar - its no sugar, but still tastes amazing. The only downside to this place is that they leave the buns out and customers have to pick out their own buns. Its efficient, but some customers are rude and dirty. They would take buns and put them back or not close the lid, etc. It makes me nervous, but I haven't had any issues or stomach problems. A+ though! read more

We came here for a snack. They had fresh soy milk so that's always exciting since that's harder to get in Chicago. We had some soy milk and then I had a taro puff. My husband had the scallion twist and then we had an egg tart to share. I love taro so i love my taro puff. It was packed full of taro filling, although it did get kind of squished when I used the tongs to get it on the tray. My husband liked the scallion bread. We both thought the egg tart was very good. It was still warm and the custard had a nice egg flavor. Wish we had Asian bakeries like this in Chicago. read more

This location gets pretty crowded and upon entering I was blocked by patrons who were stand ing around blocking the entryway like it's a museum hall. Could I conclude that they're suburbanites? Possibly. Or maybe they were dazzled by the sweet smells emanating from the store and reluctant to go out into the winter cold. There's a wide assortment of offerings on their shelves, but I didn't see egg tarts on the Monday afternoon when I popped in. Lady behind the cash register was quick to ask me what I wanted to buy but her answers had an uber foreign level of efficiency in communication that seemed a bit too fast-clipped and aggressive. It appeared decently clean but didn't really have that special sparkly vibe that makes you want to go back asap. With the large number of bakeries in walking distance, it's too bad this location doesn't try to be more competitive in their products and services but who knows maybe they cater to a particular demographic that doesn't include myself. Maybe I felt this way because the fluorescent lighting was dim. read more

It's OK here. Very large space with a lot of seating. But when I went in May, oh man was it blistering hot! No air condition, and I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I normally love lots of things from Chinese bakeries: red bean bun, hot dog bun, etc, but this time I was really craving a fruit tart. They looked really good, and I ended up getting three. They weren't that good -- I prefer the ones from Chinatown instead. The crust was very thick, and hard to eat, mainly because it seemed like there were ground nuts in them or something. Also altered the taste a bit. Custard was flavorful. The fruit looked great, but some of them were not ripe, so it lacked sweetness and was way too firm. Also, it wasn't cheap -- at $2.25 it's significant, or maybe prices have gone up all around and I haven't caught up haha. The cakes looked good, but it seems a lot of them were more mousse like, and I prefer a fluffier and cake like dessert. I would consider coming back here again, but I was pretty turned off when I saw either an employee or customer (they were too close together to tell which one) sneeze on the buns. Some of the plastic bins/covering were open, exposing the food to the germs. read more

The place is clean and well serviced. The bakeries are well placed and organized. Although expensive, the price of the baked goods is well worth it. Be careful, the coffee is strong here but again, I liked it! read more

I declare the egg tarts in this Fay-Da location to be the best in NY! I just love how they're kept hot in their little revolving oven. Fresh hot egg tarts for a buck. Paired with a nice ice cold Horlicks and I'm good to go. (The other stuff is, as many other yelpers put it, "meh." Everything starts tasting like a combination of flour and sugar after a while. The coffee is also not that great. I have yet to find an Asian bakery that serves good coffee. ) read more

I work near by and I'd like to think Fay Da is to blame for my recent weight gain because they have delicious cheap Chinese desserts and great drinks that I just can't help over indulge. I noticed that Chinese bakery desserts are not as sweet as American or Italian or whatever bakeries and I love that! It's just the right amount of sweetness. Some favorites are the Japanese cheesecake, milk cream bun, chicken puff pastry (yummm), the steamed buns and tiramisu. I love the Horlicks drink and the coffee/milk tea as well. During the summer, I was hooked on their iced coffee! It's amazing! The service is quick and the ladies on the register aren't looking to make small talk. It's all in and out and I have no complaints about that. read more

Fay Da Bakery - Good tasting pastry nice cold drinks!!! - Bakeries Near Me - Elmhurst, New York

Ordered a few birthday cakes in the past years. The cakes are okay. Their stuffs are not the best, but since it is the closest bakery to my home, I will just stop by if I need to grab a drink or a bun. Until lately l found that their staffs are so rude that I can't stand it anymore. I have seen an old man being yelled at when they spent time to look for it. The women who work there don't act like they are serving customers. This time I ordered something, the lady gave me the wrong drink, and even told me that I didn't specify it while I did. Didn't wanna argue with them but hey, I won't do business with them anymore. They have no manner and just cheap! read more

Their breads are pretty decent. The garlic knot roll wasn't as savory as I was expecting it to be. The roast pork bun (in the warmer next to the registers) are pretty good! And it's a decent price too so you won't have to even break a $10. read more

I used to go to this bakery for a few weeks. Here is what I saw, I saw a flying bug on the bread and I told the clerk. This was what she did. Got rid of the flying bugs which just touched the bread and pretended nothing happen and keep selling the bread. Since this is a Chinese bakery so no surprise I guess? Of course I stop going to this bakery. read more

I often stop in on my way to the subway to pick up a sandwich for lunch at work. Sandwiches range from $1.95 - $2.75 and come on white or whole wheat with a choice of ham or turkey. You can't beat that, at least not for those prices. read more

Favorite chinese bakery to come to, the bread are great quality. The staff is meh but i dont really mind cus i just grab and go. They sell bubble tea, tea, coffee, soy milk, steam buns, egg tarts, toast breads, pastries, cake(chocolate, vanilla, fruity, coffee, green tea, forest dark, etc...). I always come back to this bakery when I want some sweet and simple bread. Cheap prices too, the bread price ranges from $1-$3. I recommend this place 100%. read more

This place is ok. It's cheap, everything runs about a dollar give or take $0.50. However, the people that work here are ... undertrained for a lack of a better word. I waited on line behind 2 cashiers. There was 2 people in front of me but others that just came into the store just started stepping in front of the second cashier. Then people started to cut from behind me?! Said something but was quickly brushed off. Uh... not cool. Could be the fault of the customer and not the workers but when I brought it up to the cashiers they just said hurry up we gonna close in 30 minutes. 30 MINUTES! SHUT UP. On another occasion I see 4 people working there but only 1 person actually working the register and getting the cakes/pastries from the side. It took me 15 minutes to pick up the TARO CAKE that I wanted which was already made in the display... FYI there were no other customers. 3 people just sat there behind their phones and the 1 lady just kept looking at me when I told her I wanted a cake from the pre-made selection. It was the weirdest thing ever. I don't understand this behavior as they're not young teenagers but older ladies. Whatever, I guess you get what you pay for. The food = edible The service = forgettable They're fortunate for the generous 3* rating as its cheap and filling. read more

Don't get me wrong. I like Fay-Da. Only problem is this store does not make it well. I don't know if it's the poeple who work later in the day (since most of the time I get their drinks in the evenings), but the tapioca tasted like it had cockroaches crawling all over it. I would never go back to a store if they make horrible drinks more than once. My cousin got the one with coconut jelly and she said that tasted pretty bad too. read more

Pure crap. I use to like the buns from Fay Da but lately, their buns have been terrible. The dried pork bun and hot dog bun has always been the same. The others were trash. The cheese bun is the saddest bun ever. I don't even know if you call it a cheese bun. It was so dry and bland. How can you possibly sell such a horrendous bun? The corn and ham bun was pathetic. There was barely any ham and corn in the center of the bun. The cashiers wear gloves but kinda makes it pointless when they're touching money and your bread at the same time. read more

After purchasing a groupon for a $20 deal worth $40, I was pretty excited to deal with Fayda Bakery. However, I have to say that this was the most horrible experience. I placed an order for my husband's birthday celebration on a Thursday for a Saturday pick up. The order was placed online and it was pretty easy. I had a couple of questions and called the number on the groupon for help. The person was very helpful and answered all my questions. I wasn't prepared for what came next. On Saturday, when trying to confirm whether the cake was ready for pick up, it was impossible to speak to someone in English. I called three times and finally was able to leave my cell for a call back. I don't live nearby and I was busy preparing everything for the party. I wanted to make sure that before I went to pick up the cake, it was ready. About half an hour later I got a call back from someone who asked me for my order #, name, phone number and date when I placed the order. After giving her all the info, she calls me back, once again and tells me that there was no cake and that they had never received an order from me. I was extremely upset. This totally ruined the occasion, I was forced to go out and purchase a last minute cake form another bakery. Long story short a different person calls me at 7:30pm when they in fact close at 8pm, to tell me that they do have a cake and that I had to go pick it up. This person was extremely rude and offensive, made racial comments and even told me over the phone that if I was expecting someone to speak Spanish to me. Fayda bakery is unreliable and should definitely work on improving their customer service skills. Not recommended for anyone out there considering using them for business. read more

The only reason why I come to the "Fay Da" Chinese bakery located on Justice Ave near Broadway is because I was looking for the "Saam Choi Geun" or the "Choi Hung Guen" (multicolored or rainbow cake roll - I can't remember which is the correct Chinese word.). All the neighboring bakeries do not sell the "multicolored" roll and my mom was craving it. Finally, upon going to the Fay Da location, I found the multicolored roll, nicely wrapped in transparent plastic paper. The multicolored roll is basically a long Chinese cake made up of different color cake squares, usually pink, standard yellow, and brown, with cream in between each square (or section). Every bakery that sells it makes it a little different, depending on how they want to separate the colors, but it's easily recognized as the multicolored cake. Think of it as going to the supermarket to buy a mini-loaf of bread except the bread is wrapped in clear plastic paper and is multi-colored. To my disappointment, the employees here speak strictly Mandarin so it's hard for me to understand them so I sort of avoid this place, but there's more selection here since the bakery is larger than the other neighboring bakeries around. Fay Da is also a chain bakery so it's more well known than the local bakeries. Even with the familiarity in name, the bakery is always semi-empty of customers when I go in. I'm guessing it is because its location is not near the main section of Broadway (around the 45th Ave area.) For those driving to this location, there are no parking spots near the area so it's more advantageous to park in the neighborhoods and walk. Inside Fay Da, there is a section to sit and eat after making a purchase. The prices here seems more expensive, but then everything seems to be more expensive nowadays. What I do love about the place is that it looks super clean with no crumbs or dirt in sight. When I brought the multicolored roll to my mom's house, my mom tasted it and thought the roll was much sweeter than the multi-colored roll that she bought in a bakery in Flushing. I like sweet foods so I can't complain much, but my mom prefers a more milder sweet taste. Unfortunately, my mom does not remember where she bought her multicolored roll. I started out not knowing what a multicolored roll is but after this experience, I am enlightened. Apparently, these multicolored rolls are getting quite popular. PROS: larger selection, usually no line to order, clean-looking interior, sweet multicolored roll CONS: the bakery is mandarin language-oriented, no parking nearby read more

You can't really go wrong with most Chinese bakeries. Fay Da is a well known chain. Not a bad place to grab a cheap breakfast or a cup of tea and a pastry. I stop in a couple of times a week on the way to work for breakfast to-go. I usually get the cheese bun or a hot dog bun, since that's easy for me to eat while walking. You would not want to come within 10 feet of me if I'm walking and eating anything messier :) I've tried some of the other pastries and they're mostly pretty good. I wouldn't say come out of your way to try this place but it's a quick and convenient spot to grab breakfast or a snack. I'm not a fan of their cakes though - they're OK, but there are just better ones to be had elsewhere, like DuBois Bakery (mmmm...) Coffee and bubble tea are not bad either. No credit cards so have your cash at hand or be glared at by me, waiting for you to finish fumbling with your wallet while the seconds tick down until my train arrives..... read more

Staff not friendly, asked to have something written on a Japanese cheesecake i was buying and the lady who was taking my order rolled her eyes right in front of me and started talking in Chinese with another staff and they both looked at me and started laughing. Awesome, okay, I'm no expert in chinese bakeries, but I love the service and the food here. The coffee is great, and I like being able to pick out my own pastries. No one rushes me, even when Its busy. They have a beautiful array of desserts i have yet to try, and regular pastry items that I love, especially the sweet topping bun and the cream filled ones. The steamed buns are great too. This particular location always has all different kinds of people visiting it, and its very popular and delicious. Too bad I am on a diet now! I love the Taipan and the Fay Da bakery Chain, it's really enjoyable, cheap and reliable. Great staff, great selection of desserts and pastries, and excellent price. When you come here, try the pork buns and the lotus steam wraps; it's the best. The mousse cake is pretty good so try it out. I have no complaints; but compared to American Bakeries, this falls behind, however, it's an excellent Asian Bakery. read more

I used to love this place when it just opened. It was inconvenient that they dont take credit cards bcoz i dont normally carry cash but i got used to it eventually. I love their cakes all their cakes, their pork buns are not the best i've had, if you want better buns go to chinatown. Why only 3 stars? I'm not chinese, the cashiers hardly understand english so they make mistakes almost all the time when i order and if another chinese customer is there ordering with me eventhough i was there first they start talking in chinese and pretend i wasnt there! Bad customer service! read more

Just had a cup of their coffee. Tasted like disgusting, bitter hot water. No wonderful roasted coffee smell or flavor like it used to have. Had two sips and chucked it. On the plus side, their hot dog bun was ok. Bun was soft and hot dog not too salty. Prices are increasing though I don't blame them. Cost of a coffee and one hot dog bun: $2.20. Still cheaper than American bakeries. read more

Good tasting pastries for a local bakery. My favorites are the eclairs and cakes. Yummy food overall, only drawback is that the service quality varies sometimes from "great, no problem" to preference over the local "chinese speaking community" in regard to customer attention, during busy lines. Not saying it happens often, just once in a while. Aside from that minor thing, its a good place to treat yourself. read more

I think the cakes and breads are ok. It's a great location, very convenient next by the Grand Ave subway exit.

I used to come to this bakery after school when I was in high school for cheap food. They have a large selection of pastries and I usually order the hot milk tea. Their pastries and drinks are consistently decent. I haven't been coming to this Fay Da bakery as much. Also, the Fay Da in Chinatown is a lot nicer looking, interior-wise. read more

You want interesting food? This is the place for you. Their breads/sweets range from beef curry to green tea rice balls. Their desserts are pretty good, not awesome but not bad either. I don't like how everything is open and you grab what you want, i worry about germs. Don't think about eating healthy if you come here though. Be careful about spending-all those little treats really add up fast. read more

Fayda green tea is my favorite, I get it every morning with a pork bun.

Lots of various choices to choose from and freshly baked breads everyday. Drinks are also pretty good. They also have little treats like tiramisu and red velvet cakes. Yum. They also have birthday cakes too and for those, you have to order in advance for pick up. For me, the cakes are alright - not too bad, but not too great. Nothing spectacular. Prices are alright. There are cheaper bakeries nearby but most people I see go to Fay Da. Very nice and efficient staff. There's also a large seating area for those who want to sit around. The only downside is that people tend to sit there for many hours and sometimes you cannot find a seat to sit. read more
