Every one of these five star reviews is earned. The place didn't seem like much from the street, but it contains such tasty delights inside. Everything we ordered had just the right amount of spice. Service was friendly and helpful. We had the Ethiopian Anjero Platter for two, and I wondered why we've never come here before. Eating with one's hands is a different experience but not as tricky as I've been lead to believe. We even got some Mandazi for the road. The food: I have had the ugali with sukuma, the Somali Anjero with goat curry and various vegetable dishes, and the Kenyan chai tea. Everything that I have tried at Fatima's is succulently delicious and has you wanting more. I am especially fond of the goat curry. I also really have enjoyed getting to try Somail Anjero as opposed to Ethiopian Anjero. Somali Anjero is thicker and has a more sour flavor, which I find delicious. The Kenyan chai is very sweet and tastes strongly of cardamon, one of my favorite spices. It definitely works well as a light dessert. The chai tea was nicely spiced, the spicy lentil and vegetable samosas were a yummy combination of crisp/flaky/chewy, and the Ethiopian anjero platter was super filling. The staff are all friendly and accommodating, the prices are good, and the portion sizes are big. It's a smallish place, but they do have about ~8-10 tables to sit. This place is literal perfection. The owner Omar was there when we went and what a kind and friendly man he is! Whistled the whole time while he prepped our food. I told him I was vegan and he let me know all the veggie stews are good to go. I got the chapati anjero with all three vegetable stews (spicy lentil, cauliflower/potato, mixed veg) and it was soooo delicious! The bread was piping hot and Omar told me to use it to scoop up all the yummy lentils and veggies. He was so friendly and genuine! I also got spicy lentil samosas and vegetable samosas (my friend got the beef samosa/Somali steak sandwich) and it came with a little cup of this delicious green hot sauce. Visiting Fatima's is always a treat! The food is deliciously soul-satisfying and the staff's wamth and friendliness always brightens my day. If you want try something a little out of the ordinary, try the sukuma and ugali (shredded cooked collard greens served along with a thick starchy corn porridge that, if you don't mind eating with your hands, you can use to pick up the greens) and pair that with the goat stew. The combination is quite tasty and filling. I am also fond of their hilib ido, which is served as a wrapped sandwich similar in shape to a burrito but stuffed with lamb and vegetables and then grilled to give a bit of char to the wrap. I've always had an easy time finding parking either in their small parking lot or, if that is full, then on the street on Barnes Ave just a few steps away. read more

My boyfriend and I visited this place last week. The food here.....phenomenal! This is one of the few restaurants that I have visited and have woken up the next day craving the food I had here. We ordered the Ethiopian Anjero platter with the various stews. The lentil one was my favorite but they were all delicious. We also had an order of samosas which were fantastic. Despite being completely misleading from the outside, where customers might be confused by the signage that says pizza, wraps, and sandwiches along with "African cuisine", I can't rave enough about this secret spot. My parents shared the Ethiopian platter which had a beef stew, goat, chicken, lentil stew, and vegetable stew on a giant crepe like pancake (can't remember the name of it). I ordered a combo of the eggplant chapatti and chicken stew. It was phenomenal. We also tried each of the samosas (Meat, Vegetable, and Spicy Lentil). I thought the veggie was the highlight but all were fantastic. The Chai tea is also a must get. Each of these dishes were cooked to perfection and have their own unique flavors and spices. Stopped in to grab lunch en route from nyc to Portland, Maine and really lucked out! This random African cuisine restaurant was super casual and affordable. It's hard to find good African food in nyc, let alone in the middle of Worcester, Massachusetts! (That said, I'm not ridiculously familiar with African cuisine but I loved this place!) The owner/server was super attentive (albeit slightly slow) and gave great suggestions and descriptions of the dishes. The chai was really solid and more cinnamony/star anisey than the indian version I've had. Must try. And the mango lassie was great too. When I stopped by for a midday lunch break at this place I couldn't even tell if they were open at first because it was empty and none of the lights were on. Once I walked in and ordered things went much more smoothly. I was alone and was interested in the Ethiopian Injera platter but it was enough for 2 people so instead I made my own version of the platter. The owner (I'm going to assume it was Fatima?) was first unwilling to accommodate my request for less food but eventually agreed to allow me to create my own platter combination and not have to shell out 20+ for way more food than I needed. I'm not sure if it was because I was starving or what but this was unarguably some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. I had the chicken stew and vegetable mixes and they definitely fulfilled my expectations. Each dish was well seasoned and served piping hot. We're not from the area and were looking for halal food on our drive. A quick google search got us to this spot and I'm so glad it did!!! The owner is sweet and there is a drive thru window from which we placed our order. We got the following: 6 Samosa (beef, spicy lentil, mixed veggie), Ethiopian Anjero Platter & Mandazi. This whole in the wall features a simple menu but the flavors pop. My fav was the piping hot veggie samosas and the lentils. The chai was amazing but I wish they had almond milk vs cow milk. Regretfully, they don't serve any nuts/nut milk on site. The chapati fell a bit short as I found it rather oily and dense. The place was packed by the time we left at 1 PM.
