It's not necessarily sit-down, fancy, restaurant style rather it's more of a fast-food/take-out vibe. The menu is extensive and there are many, many specialty rolls offered here. You order your food and pay first. If you choose takeout, you wait around for your order or you can have a seat at any of their booths and your food will be brought out to you. I ordered a bento box (two item) and a lion-king roll and my total was under $20. I used to always look for a sushi restaurant that has quality product but not for outrageous prices. I was led to this place about three years ago by a family friend and have been hooked ever since. What I love about it is the wide selection and array of sushi choices, bento boxes and combinations. Additionally, the food is always made fresh and comes out quick. Over the years they have expanded their menu and it's even better than before. Service here is great. It's on the smaller side in terms of restaurant and sushi dining, but it's the food that makes this place. The decor is family friendly, and comfortable. Small little place with a couple of parking spots. Service: The servers/cashier here are always friendly and attentive. They don't push you to order when you stand there looking at the menu for 5 minutes. Food: The food here is great espeically for the price. I know Fat fish for years back in Pleasanton, I moved to San Leandro and wanted to try and compare. on the good side, it is fast, filling and has decent prices. The one has a line all the time and this one is empty on a Friday night, which shows the quality is far from there. Even the chopsticks are bad/dirt cheap. the rolls are made very poorly and often not cut entirely (how hard it is to make a little effort in presentation). The Salmon's color is not fresh. Where I am going here, the Same Fat fish in Pleasanton has similar prices and WAY better quality /presentation and Sushis are fresh. I did ask if they are still with the same owner, it is not the case anymore, they separated. if you don't care and want cheap sushi, fine but Sushi is Japanese and should have some decent rolls. The place was packed on a Friday night with diverse families and couples. If you don't mind your sushi chefs being Latino, if you can handle some Spanish being spoken near you, and you are able and fine with getting your own water, you'll save some money and time in this no-frills quick stop. It was a big enough roll to begin with and they piled on a lot of spicy imitation crab on top of it to resemble a volcano. + THE PRICES This is definitely one of the cheaper sushi places I've been to. The rainbow roll was only around $8.50 with tax. Most places I've been to that sells rainbow rolls in such a large size charges around $11-12 before tax. I used to come here frequently but I think this place's food quality has recently degraded. At one point, I could come in and expect short wait times and fresh food. Now, what I can really give this place is that you won't be waiting long to get your food. I usually order two rolls, none of which are baked. When I got home all utensils were in the bag, and they gave a good amount of wasabi - I forgot to ask for extra and usually have to, but with Fat Fish it was just enough. The sashimi was very good, very fresh tasting, the seaweed salad was perfect, too. I wouldn't order the bento box again, the tempura doesn't last well for the 20 minute ride home and I really liked the salmon teriyaki but it was a small piece, and the chicken teriyaki was average. As I was picking up lunch on Thursday, January 21, 2021, I experienced a racial attack both inside and outside of the restaurant that has now officially pulled my business away. As I pull up in front and exit my car, a lady is standing outside on her phone. As I walk in the restaurant and she says, "excuse me. I'm in line." I respond, "ma'am, there is no line." She responds, "I'm waiting for my food." I respond, "I'm here for pick up." She responded, "I don't know who you niggers think you are. You aren't superior to me." As I'm in the restaurant paying for my food, the staff is totally in shock and trying their best to help serve both of us at the same time as she's yelling "I was before him." She then walks close to me and states, "Get your ass outside behind me." I warned her to back up, give me my space, and telling her I have no response to her ignorance. As I'm pulling off she's pointing the middle finger at me calling me motherfuckers. I caught her name as she was taking her order. The name provided was Ruby, and the vehicle she was driving had a decal of a dog (German Shepard) on the rear driver's side window. I have a feeling she's from the San Leandro area. This is what we as a black race are faced with. This is our reality. I had no appetite to enjoy one of my favorite foods. After posting on the Neighborhood App is when I realized from the responses she should have been denied service. The community responded in solidarity in huge numbers. The day that this happened the entire staff at my company expressed their disappointment and asked to go back with me to speak with management. They were not in. Finally, on Saturday, January 23, 2021, I spoke with the owner who didn't show much care. He did inform there is no audio in the recordings and there were several calls received from the community about what happened. I've addressed previous issues with the customer service, addressed them, gave them a chance to make changes, but yet still supported them. This one takes the cake. I will no longer give a business my money that doesn't take the necessary steps to address this type of racial behavior at their restaurant. read more
