I have been a customer of fat Fish ever since I moved to San Leandro many years ago. After a recent visit I will no longer be giving them my money. No one in the restaurant is wearing masks, the manager is sitting at a table on his computer not wearing one. They are endangering the public's health as well as their employees. I have been coming here for some years now, every time I would see my brother I would visit Fat Fish, now this year I moved 10 minutes away and I like to think I'm a regular customer. I always order the same thing but today I was dissatisfied with my food today because it didn't seem fresh all it made me worry that it was done so fast. This is the third time they disappointed me, I'm not sure what's going on but it's wrong for a business that is customer base to sell food that's not fresh. Small little place with a couple of parking spots. Service: The servers/cashier here are always friendly and attentive. They don't push you to order when you stand there looking at the menu for 5 minutes. Food: The food here is great espeically for the price. (Ok, if they were more expensive or if they raise their prices then I would have to remove a star) The udon/ramen are really good and in my opinion a lot better than other japanese places around the east bay. So no, it's not going to be a sushi roll made with such fresh slices of fish that you question if it was made from the catch of the day. But it will leave you full and pleasantly surprised. I myself usually order the 49ers roll, which is a California roll with salmon on top and a piece of lemon. Fat Fish is also the only place that I've seen that carefully cuts out the rinds of the lemons, so you don't have to chew uncomfortably on it. There are many sushi places in SL and this is one of the more interesting spots. It doesn't mean most authentic or best quality but it is cheap, fast, and family-friendly. The place was packed on a Friday night with diverse families and couples. If you don't mind your sushi chefs being Latino, if you can handle some Spanish being spoken near you, and you are able and fine with getting your own water, you'll save some money and time in this no-frills quick stop. I had the Spicy Salmon: it was satisfactory though many of the rolls did fall apart. Having noodles in the miso soup wasn't a world-shattering experience. SO GOOD, SO WORTH. + THE SUSHI I ordered the rainbow roll and shared the 49ers roll with my friend. Both rolls were pretty big and had good portions of sashimi on top. For both of the rolls, there was a lot of imitation crab inside the roll, filling you up pretty quickly. There was a perfect amount of rice to balance the thick piece of raw fish on top. The 49ers roll was so delicious, especially with the small slice of lemon on top of the salmon. My friend ordered the volcano roll and it was HUGE. It was a big enough roll to begin with and they piled on a lot of spicy imitation crab on top of it to resemble a volcano. + THE PRICES This is definitely one of the cheaper sushi places I've been to. The rainbow roll was only around $8.50 with tax. Most places I've been to that sells rainbow rolls in such a large size charges around $11-12 before tax. I been going here for along time, when ordering to go if you don't check your food first you will be displeased ......! this time around i decided to order katsu ramen... well the problem with that is, it was to go.... they decided to put the crispy chicken inside of the container IN HOT SOUP! when i got home i was pissed given i stay 20mins away its rush hour and i spent a total of 50$... they forgot to add the sauce to the sushi as well.... i wish they really cared more about the customers and the service they give. it seems like they keep getting new employees when they do well for a few weeks to a month at a time they fall off immediately after replacing employees .. it sucks ! read more

Came here with the family, as my mom recommended it since she comes here for lunch occasionally. It's like a fast food restaurant, you have the big board menu, you order and pay, grab your own water, and have a seat. I ordered one of their bento boxes and I must say that I've had better fish. Totally didn't taste fresh to me. A little rubbery and no flavor. And the cooked saba that came with the bento box was overcooked. Boo. Tried some of the chicken teriyaki off my mom's plate and it was dry. Tried the katsu off my dad's plate and it was tough, fried too long. Needless to say, I won't be making a return trip here. The only thing that stopped me from giving Fat Fish 1 star was the fact that it's cheap here. If you're on a budget or quantity rules over quality, this might be the place for you. Me and my friend ordered three rolls after a hiking trip and we ended up getting full after our second one. Compared to any other sushi places, this is the cheapest I have ever seen. Lion King rolls under $10... Most rolls here are about $6-8. Anybody could get filled up here with less than 15bucks. Their sushi rolls are HUGE (there's a reason why this place is called Fat Fish Sushi) and they are always colorful and delicious. You can't beat their prices for sushi. Most places charge you $10-$20 for their sushi rolls. The rolls here are mostly under $10. If sushi or rice plates aren't your thing, they also have udon, ramen or sashimi. They have a huge menu...there are so many things I have yet to try. I do enjoy the food here a lot if you want a fast sushi spot. What I was not happy about is the customer service. The Employees seem to have a "whatever, I don't want to be here" type attitude. Usually I don't mind because all I want is the food however last night a younger Hispanic girl who was working register and serving the food was pretty rude and it showed through her body language. she gave her coworker a side eye as we were deciding what to eat and continued with the dirty looks.
