Second review, last one was 3 stars.... Decided to try again because it's been awhile thought maybe things had changed. Took an hour to get cold food (not sushi), server could not answer any of our menu questions nor did they seem to want to or care to. Compared to my experience at the other location in West Valley, this is way better, by a landslide: the customer service, the layout, the quality of food and the welcoming environment. The menu is a little typical to other sushi chains so I asked if my chef can make something for me off the menu that has tuna and salmon wrapped in cucumber. My guy created a beautiful presentation with plenty of thin sliced lemon outlining the plate! I should've asked to add a little sauce to make it a little flavorful bite so it was my mistake. Otherwise, it was a fresh roll with each bite! Low carb and healthy! Then I messed up my cute 10 minute diet and ordered the twice fried Japanese chicken. Yelp friends.....this is something everyone needs to try! The chicken is so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The mustard mayo that comes with it....delicious! A solid four stars for sure. I have zero complaints about any of the rolls; they were all delicious. The spicy edamame had a good taste but it was a bit too spicy for me so I think I'll stick to the regular from now on. The shrimp streamed bun was really tasty. The fried pickles were great too with a yummy dipping sauce. And the service was great. The manager was really involved in making sure we had everything we needed. So I noticed this place was now called Fat Fish and was not even going to think about visiting it since we were underwhelmed with the Ichiban Sushi that used to be here and the HoHo Gourmet before that. I was worried this location was jinxed until we came in on Fri night for dinner after checking reviews. First of all, it is a totally new interior. Gorgeous booths, a brand new bar area and new lighting. When we came in the last time for previous location booth seats were torn and falling over so this is a huge upgrade. It gives a cool comfortable atmosphere and servers were all great. Menu is pretty full with a range of prices from $6 to $12 rolls and a selection of entrees as well. The Pho seemed to be a popular item on the menu and the hostess recommended the poke bowl. I ordered 3 vegetarian rolls (forest Caterpillar, pagoda and veggie) and the hubby ordered 2 rolls (Tataki and Blazing Jazz) and an order of Alaskan Salmon nigiri. I enjoyed all of my rolls but had ordered them with soy paper and they came out with seaweed. Not a huge deal and they offered to remake them but I didn't want to waste food. Hubby loved his rolls and really enjoyed the blazing jazz...nice and spicy! I'm glad we stopped in to give this place another chance. Clearly new management and they have done a fantastic job!! I have been here with my family and friends for dinner a few times. Overall the quality of their sushi is good. Not consistent quality. However, I do like the variety of sushi rolls offered as I do not like shrimp. A lot of sushi restaurants have quite a few rolls with shrimp and not many without. Don't come here. It's a waste of money. I've been here three times before tonight and never liked it. I only went because others wanted to try it out. I decided to try it one more time on my own/on a Wednesday night thinking they can't mess up a Bento box......WRONG!!! Look at my pic.....the beef is burnt/charred to a crisp. The chef should be reprimanded for letting something so disgusting and unhealthy leave his or her kitchen. Also, the portions of meat and salad are insulting for $16.00. To top it off, they mixed small portions of wasabi and ginger together in a small plastic cup. A good restaurant would separate these two items. Review during COVID. Takeout only during COVID. Since it's really the only sushi place in the area that is open right now, it's not bad. Like all sushi places, there are going to be favorites and not so favorites for each person so here are some tips for to-go orders. Fried food - we all know fried foods don't generally travel well even if it's less than a 10 minute drive. The fried rolls are still crispy, just a slight chew to them. The calamari probably suffered the most with less than crispy exterior both times despite the venting holes in the box. Also the last batch had more onions and very little calamari. Check your order - the essentials like wasabi and ginger were left out but all the other delicious sauces were included. Don't order during the rush - Don't order around 6pm, order a bit before or an hour after. Seems logical right but even more important now since there is very little staff and they get overwhelmed. It also does not help the social distancing mandate when ten people show up at once and are waiting in their small lobby. I can't wait until we can dine in again cause I'm sure it'll be spectacular like it's sister store, Sapa. But since this is the only game between North Salt Lake and Kaysville, they're A-OK. read more

Very disappointed in my first experience here. This is a 2.5 star review that I decided to round up. The sushi was decent. I would say a little lower quality than sapa. The service was terrible. We sat by the sushi bar and ended up getting our own plates and soy sauce bowls. We had to ask for ginger and wasabi at the end of our meal and it took the waitress about 25 minutes to even take our order. Even getting the check or water seemed like a daunting task. Full disclosure: I am not a sushi person so I can't offer a detailed review on how the sushi compares to other spots, but my wife and I love this place. We both get the bento boxes and I order the hell bomb roll as well. My wife couldn't sleep last night because she was craving the salad dressing so we trekked through the snow storm to get there tonight. I tried a bunch of different sushi tonight and decided I should probably stick to the hell bomb, but the people we were with said they were good. I got the curry chicken instead of my usual teriyaki tonight and it had a good kick to it and a bunch of nasty vegetables like mushrooms and mini corn, but I liked it. Would have gone 4 stars but the service isn't great. More than once they've forgotten a drink for the entire meal and it is pretty slow. read more

I love their calamaris! There's definitely a hint of 5 spice seasoning which is a really nice touch to it. Plus it's got a great spicy kick from the jalapeños. Highly recommend to start with that but grab a carbonated drink if you're prone to heart burns like I am All the rolls are tasty and well portioned. The kids love the pho here so that's their go to when we dine here. I just don't like how they pack the rolls to go with the sauce all separated with no labels. This restaurant is owned by the same owners of Sapa in SLC...BUT Fat Fish appears to have so many more options with Pho, bento boxes, noodle dishes, etc. The food was delicious with my daughter telling everyone how good her teriyaki chicken was, and the sushi and Pho I ordered more than met my expectations. The service was excellent - super friendly and I was never without a drink. I am so excited about Fat Fish and it will be high on my rotation of places to go!
