I've had food catered and i've also been to the Farmers Market a few times. The slogan is true, "NO SAUCE NEEDED". I usually like BBQ sauce, however I opted out just to taste the barbecue to see if it the sauce wasn't needed.... Listen, I had the chicken, links and potato salad and it was delicious. I ate it in my car because I couldn't wait to get home. The service was great, the young lady and young man that took and prepared my order was pleasant and provided service with a smile (that is huge for me). I would recommend and definitely return. This is the best BBQ I've had in a long time. I went to the Kensington Farmers market and discovered Fat Daddy's and I will be back every weekend for those ribs! On the sign it says no sauce needed and they couldn't be more right. They were sweet and Smokey with a nice thick bark. One of the best ribs I have ever tasted. Flavor penetrates through every part of the meat. Portion size is double if not triple of what I thought it would be. OMG the best BBQ I have ever had! I ate those ribs like they were going out of style! Delish! BBQ chicken was tasty and juicy. BBQ was more of a wet marinated, slow cooked style (e.g. Texas or Kansas City). I must also say that their sides were amazing. It's hard to find a good coleslaw and potato salad. Both were great. I like how fresh the coleslaw tasted. As for the potato salad, it was perfect. Perhaps I felt like I was indulging way too much, but worth it. I would definitely have a bite to eat at Fat Daddy's BBQ again, and would consider a catered event. A must eat when you get a chance! read more

I had the rib plate. 6 St Loius and cole slaw $13. The ribs seemed shorter than a typical St Louis. They had very good smoke but could use more flavorful rub. The cole slaw was mayonnaise base and ok. I would go back if in the area. read more

Albert and his team catered an office BBQ for me in Tilden Park on what has to be the hottest day of 2018 so far. He was super responsive and helpful with meeting all of my needs for dietary restrictions, etc. On the day of, they came out in the heat and got us all set up at the picnic site. A lot of our employees had never had this style of BBQ and almost none of them had heard of 7-UP cake. They couldn't believe how good everything was. It's been 2 months and people still bring up how much they liked the food. Some even raved it was the best BBQ they had ever had. As someone with southern grandparents who is very picky about BBQ, I agree it was all legit, authentic and delicious. I highly recommend you use them for your next event. read more

Thank you for helping us out with the food. Everyone loved the food man, made our baby shower all the better when the food is on point, People was just eating, plates after plates. The food's all everyone's talking about the day after. the people talking. I have friends calling me mad they didnt pack enough food going home. Food was more than plenty. We will be reaching out again for the next baby shower. Excellent sides, my favorite the baked beans and potato salad. The chicken so tender, links and side of bar b que sauce is like no other. Two trays of ribs and a tray of short ribs gone. I myself had four plates at home the day after, did not feel the usual sluggish feeling we get from eating bbq plates. Everything, corn on a cob was even seasoned and perfect texture. Family and friends at the event too want service from Fat Daddys, see you at the church events. Fat Daddy's is an intermittent fixture at the Kensington Farmers Market. Months ago we smelled the smoke but didn't indulge; I gather from other reviews that he'd not been at the market for a while and has now returned. Alan picked up a half rack of ribs for us for dinner. That doesn't sound like much, but it'll serve us for two dinners. Plus we each had a couple of end pieces w/ lunch. Not burnt ends, just ends. The ribs and ends were lean and meaty, very tender. Sauce comes on the side but Alan didn't get any. Since I prefer the meat to the sauce that didn't bother me a bit. Evidently there was quite a line, so he didn't get coleslaw or potato salad because it would have meant standing in another line. Dinner tonight was ribs, broccoli, baked beans from a can, coleslaw from Fat Apple's for Alan and salad greens for me. The ribs were delicious, smokey and nicely seasoned w/o too much salt. The broccoli was good, the baked beans were OK, not as good as homemade from the various BBQ places we frequent and the coleslaw and salad were welcome notes of green. Dessert was strawberries from the market. It was a good dinner and it's nice to have another source of BBQ when we don't want to have to travel far. read more

Fat Daddy comes to the Kensington service station (Chevron) quite often on Saturdays. They're also at the Kensington farmers' market on Sundays about every other week. As I mentioned in my review of Great American Barbecue, the chicken seems to be a bit better at G.A.B., which alternates with Fat Daddy's at the farmers' market. We checked out Fat Daddy's again today, ordering a rib tips plate to go ($12), which comes with one side. My side was the baked beans, which I liked a lot. The rib tips were tender and meaty and made for good eating. I took home a small container of their barbecue sauce, which struck me as medium-mild. (G.A.B. offers three sauces -- mild, medium, hot.) The sauce was enjoyable when I used it, but the meat was fine on its own. I don't expect to become addicted to this stuff, but I could see myself as a regular customer. Not bad at all! read more

On our way home this afternoon, we saw them at the Chevron station on Arlington in Kensington and decided to swing by. They had ribs (2 types) and pulled chicken sandwiches with side options of cole slaw or baked beans. We got two pulled chicken sandwiches with the two different sides ($7 each). The BBQ sauce is also on the side. The chicken has a great flavor and really doesn't need the BBQ, but we added it anyway. My husband was a fan of the baked beans -- and that says a lot b/c he's generally not. The cole slaw was a perfect as an addition to the sandwich. Overall, delicious. I haven't written a yelp review in a while, but these sandwiches totally motivated me to. Fat Daddy's is at this Chevron every Saturday, and I think we will be too! EDIT: OK. This is the best BBQ you will find! The rub is fantastic, the smokey flavor just right and all the meats are tender, tender, tender! Made a special trip to the Kensington farmers market to try Big Daddy's bbq. Boy was the windy road with random lefts and rights worth it! By the time I got there, shortly after noon, they were sold out of links and chicken. I was "forced" to have the ribs. The quality of the meat is what stands out the most for me. It wasn't fatty or gristlie. The meat was perfectly seasoned and smoked. The years of perfecting this craft really show! I was really looking forward to having the chicken, but if the ribs are any indication of how the rest of their stuff is then I am sold on big daddy's bbq! It is delish and well worth a trip to kensington! As a matter of fact, I was eager to try big daddy's because I want a small dinner catered for next weekend and they have more that won my business! I plan to order the tri tip, chicken, and ribs for my dinner. As a side, we had the Mac n cheese, cole slaw, and potato salad. The Mac was cheesy and delicious. It was hot and bubbly! The coleslaw was my fav. It was crisp and freshly prepared. The dressing is not overly creamy or super sweet. It was the perfect balance in my book. In sum, big daddy's bbq is doing it right! They use quality meats, the freshest of ingredient, and prepared to perfection! By far this is some of the best bbq I've had ever! And the price cannot be beat! We are frequent flyers with Fat Daddy's BBQ. Barbecue as good as it gets. Savory and juicy ribs and chicken thighs. Always serve this BBQ for gatherings. This time last year we were celebrating eldest daughter graduating from CAL and this year we are celebrating our other daughter's brief return home after living away for the past 12 years. Most in attendance this year remembered Fat Daddy's BBQ we served last year. Most got to take home left overs last year. This year ONE BIG PROBLEM, not enough ribs. We ran out half way thru the party. Plenty of food anyway, but I could hear them thinking MORE RIBS!!!!!!!! Sorry all, Albert and crew had already gone home from the Farmers Market. Hopefully, this daughter's departure will only last the 13 months as planned and we will be celebrating her return to the Bay area to live. Next Celebration I will buy a few more slabs. It's shamefully hard to find good BBQ in the Bay Area, so I was thrilled when I tried Fat Daddy's at the Kensington Farmer's Market. I got the Daddy's Big Boy sandwich, which included bratwurst, rib tips, and slaw on a bun. The sauce is insanely delicious, with good sweetness and tang. The brat had a good snap, but the rib tips were definitely the business: smoky and well-cooked. I also got a side of mac and cheese, which was very filling. It's a classic, super cheesy mac, with just enough of a peppery kick to elevate it to high heaven. I'm glad I only got a small portion of it, though, because that stuff is heavy. read more

I really love Fat Daddy's! Albert makes delicious smokey bbq worth tracking down at the Kensington Farmer's market. He has coleslaw, potato salad and mac salad for sides but the star is the meat. I prefer the chicken but the ribs are great too. I believe he also offers rib tips and bratwurst. The meat is always so flavorful that it doesn't need the bbq sauce he provides on the table. My only complaint is that sometimes the meat gets a bit dry and thats the only thing keeping this from a 5 star review. read more

I've been twice on Sundays (10:00 to 2:00) to Fatdaddy's BBQ tent at the Kensington Farmers Market Their pork ribs achieved the perfect balance of meat/fat/bone. Not too "meaty," but not too fatty either. I really liked the BBQ sauce which was a little sweet and a little hot. The ribs were great with or without the sauce (they're served without sauce) The only side I had was the potato salad which was the best I've had in a long time. In May I made a pilgrimage to Marietta, Georgia and had Sam's BBQ (amazing), Bub-Ba-Q (merely great) and Dave Poe's and thought I wouldn't have good BBQ for months. We had noticed Fat Daddy's at the Kensington Chevron station on the Arlington several times, but only just stopped and got some ribs last Saturday for the first time, just as they were packing up to close, so that's all we have tried so far. Results: YUM! on the ribs. Clearly the best we have had in this area, and they reheat well, too. We are looking forward to trying more selections, but Fat Daddy's is on hiatus for the winter. He says he will be around on Super Bowl weekend, then start a new season about a month after that. We gather he was usually at the Kensington Chevron on Saturdays, and the Kensington Farmer's Market on Sundays. If you catch him on a Saturday and don't care for his potato salad (which we haven't yet tried but this is in response to an earlier review), get your potato salad at the butcher's counter in Young's Market nearby. We took the ribs home and used our own sauce; everyone seems to like something different anyway, and this is "takeout only." What we'd really love to see is a sit-down place with Fat Daddy's BBQ - it is REAL barbecue, he actually uses a rub! I can hardly wait until spring... read more
