On a group ride going through East San Jose my freewheel died, so I stopped in to Fast Bicycle to see if I could pick up a replacement. The guys running the place were nice enough, but ultimately I found my experience to be less than great. The only freewheel they had available was a very cheap unit: no brand or make etched into the front, no shifting ramps, or even twisted teeth. The guy swore it was new, and indeed it didn't show any signs of external wear, but it seemed as if there was no grease or oil to lubricate the internal ratcheting mechanisms. Most new freewheels come packed with a layer of quality grease, and this showed none. This freewheel died a week later after less than 100 miles of wear. I can't fault the shop for manufacturer's defects, but I feel I am justified in faulting them for carrying & selling faulty products. I ended up getting a brand-name freewheel from a different shop for around the same price, and have had no troubles since. Not only was the freewheel bad, but not even a mile out after leaving the store I noticed that my rear tire was rubbing against the frame. Either 1.) They re-attached my rear wheel crookedly or 2.) they didn't tighten the rear axle enough, allowing my wheel to slip while on the frame. Either way, it was a mistake, and a potentially costly one, at that. The last thing one needs while riding is to have a wheel pop off one's bike. Dangerous. Any bike shop is better than no bike shop. I'd rather it be there than, let's say, a car dealership. They do carry a big selection of new and used bicycles, and it's great to have a shop in the neighborhood that can take care of your if you're in a pinch, but if you're looking for something more than the most basic of services, I'd say look elsewhere. read more

Fast is not just a name with these guys. They tune bikes in 1/2day where others (Performance Bike, etc) Take a week just to get an appt. Great deals and knowledgeable staff. I have taken all my friends here to purchase their first bike and a few of my racing buddies as well. Very competitive pricing. When starting my search on yelp to fix my bike, I immediately saw Fast Bikes. And started looking at the reviews which are mixed. But I'm here to settle the debate. And fast bikes is amazing. At first, I was reading the bad reviews with the good ones and I thought "Okay, I'll just give em a call and see if what others are saying are true" I gave them a rang and at first I started to agree with the one star reviews because the guy on the phone hung up on me! I was like how rude. But that's my ego so I called again and then I heard him and he was barely a whisper. At first I thought his phone was broken, but I had mine turned all the down. So it was my fault I couldn't hear him well. Basically the guy told me to bring it in. A day later, I shove my beaten up bike in my car and drive over. Good drive but don't go during traffic hours because it's just annoying lol. Save yourself. I pull up and I take my bike in and the guy was SUPER helpful. Very nice staff. Quick and straight to the point. Turns out I just needed my tires pumped up and the guy said I should wait an hour and if they deflate to come back in. Then they helped me out the door since I was a little awkward with the bike lol. Overall, will be returning with all my bike problems, God willing. Use this place! So I come in here for a simple bike chain service. I tell dude what I needed and he just stares at me and blatantly and snobbishly replies, "That doesn't tell me anything." I try to rephrase my statement and quickly he again replies, "That doesn't tell me anything." Now I'm sure these guys get countless customers like myself who haven't a clue about what they're doing or what they need. I really don't appreciate people who flaunt their knowledge just to dumb-down their customers. Cool little shop. Came in to grab a seat for my specialized fuse. The stock seat was super uncomfortable. I purchased a gel seat and "Rick" helped me out by installing for me on the spot no charge. When I got home I compared Fast Bicycles prices to online prices and Fast Bicycles prices was a few bucks cheaper which was pretty cool also. I will be returning my bike needs. read more

I bought my Giant road bike there in 2005. Saw that bike at another store and Fast Bicycle bettered that price. Took my bike in today for a tune up; Tom gave me a good deal on the tune up since I mentioned that I had bought my bike there. So instead of $55, it was $45 - quite reasonable. looking for suggestions on mountain bikes? regardless if you're a pro or a beginner like me. this place should be one of the places you need to go before making any final decisions. i've been shopping around for mountain bikes and Fast Bicycle is the by far the best places i've been. the other places (not naming the others) didn't seem knowledgable. i went to a couple of places and both gave me different sizes of what i should be riding. thanks to fellow yelpers i checked out Fast Bicycle. Tom is the person i spoke to and he knows his bikes. he let me ride around the parking lot to test out a few bikes. awesome! he is very knowledgable and knew what i needed for my size, even the color i may like. what a guy! you can walk in not knowing anything and walk out knowing a few things about mountain bikes. he will make sure you are comftable with the bikes. they carry high end mountain bikes, cruisers, big and small bikes. i want to give it a four and a half, only because the walkway in between aisle is so narrow it felt like i was going to hit my head or trip over a bike. but since i walked out of there with more knowledge and Tom was so attentive to me FIVE STARS BABY!!! The products there are satisfactory, to say the least. Prices are average , nothing special. The reason why two stars is actually a compliment to there store would be because of there staff. Normally when we go into a store to look at things we are either learning or we have questions of similar products, and we want to understand the difference between the two. Or three or four. We expect employees not just to know, but to understand what they are selling, now I'm not saying that they do not. It is a far cry from that. Its when they do know and expect you ( the customer ) to know as well! And try to make you feel stupid or ignorant for not knowing . We need help . Not another dickwad trying to stroke his own ego. I'm pretty sure if you ever been to that store . Or you work there you know who I'm talking about. Either way I know I will not go back to there store. And I am not speaking about the whole staff at all. Its 1 man . But as we all know, that is all it ever takes . So long story short. If you know what you want.. without a doubt or an expert. I have been to fast bicycle and the two times I went the guy was RUDE!!!! I mean he would not get off his cell phone he would not acknowledge us, he told us to wait til he was finished with his personal phone call. I don't know about anybody else but that is not customer service this is I hate customers and get out of my store service. when i told my husband about it he said yikes i went their about 10 years ago with 3 friends to buy gloves on there way to north star well in order to find gloves that fit you have to try them on and the guy go pissed off at them and said you either have to buy something now or get out at about 9 or 10 am. He said he would rather drive across town to buy a 10cent spoke they were so horrible and rude. life is to short to be abused like that in a store where i am spending my hard earned money. read more

I went in to get a new helmet since I had seen the shop from the road. The guy was pretty nice, but seemed a little rushed or short with me. But nothing that would stop me from going back again. Had a huge selection of bikes and some other gear as well. The helmets were off to the side and behind the counter but he picked a few out for me to try on and the second one fit and I was off. Tom and Rick couldn't have been more awesome!!! I brought my commuting bike(that I bought at Walmart) In for a tune up. The results were AMAZING!! The bike was shifting itself and the brakes and derailleur levers were in the wrong spot. Tom and his bike doctors basically turned it into a perfectly running Bike. Ahead of the estimated time. I don't usually write bad reviews, but there's something about exclusive attitudes that provokes me to do so. I've come into this shop only twice, and both times I have felt sort of looked down on. It's really unfortunate, because I was under the impression that they were community oriented. And I can see it with just about everyone else who comes through to the shop. They're so personable and take the time to serve them. From the moment I walk into the shop to the moment that I leave, they have a way of talking to me there that insinuates that I don't belong there. Bought a cassette spacer and bike rack from them, and when I returned to tell them that it was the wrong bike rack, the man insisted that it wasn't, telling me he didn't know what I was talking about. I ended up having to go to OSH to buy a second set of p-clips to secure it onto my bike, because I could tell he wasn't going to accept the fact that my bike is so old it doesn't have ceramic inserts to install the rack. If you're the right kind of person, I really hope you enjoy the service they give you, but don't waste your time there if you're not. So unfortunate. read more

I had never used a bike shop to fix anything,.but now with two kids, i have.We had my son's bike with a broken or loose chain,and some screws missing. I tried fixing it and had no luck, so we took it to get fixed.I had seen this place on alum rock ,but never thought i would use the services. I walked in and was pleased with the customer service, and they told me to come back in an hour. I was surprised since i thought it would take day to fix something as simple. I was excited,to have new training wheels on the bike,and all was fixed,and the price was very reasonable.Now,I saw many beautiful bikes,and wanting to purchase one for my daughter in this shop. You can walk in and be there for 10 minutes or more and they won't bother if you have any questions, they got great bike sales, but sometimes custom service is not so great, its like they're not n the mood to work, don't let your problems at home come to your workplace. Took my specialized tarmac in to have my front derailleur cable changed. I live in evergreen and had taken my bicycle to mikes bikes in Los Gatos which is quite a drive and typically repairs require that I leave my bicycle. I found FB to be on the expensive side. I had a very simple service - changing out two flat tires on my bike. I remember asking the clerk if their prices were competitive when he told me how much it would cost. "Yeah". After dragging my road bike out of my vehicle, I realized that I was not going anywhere else. The good.. The service was fast and efficient. Another ding is there was no one in the shop at that time. Obviously I was struggling to get my bike through the door and I was surprised that not ONE of the two guys standing around did not come to the door and offer help. I won't go back again. read more

I was helped by Ric, who showed me several bikes for my size ranging from the cheaper end to the more expensive end but didn't pressure me to go for the top ones. He let me ride around a few of the bikes that I selected and went through some trouble to figure out what size would be best for me. I recently got back into riding...stopped by sun bikes for chain lube, helmet pads, and some other small items. They tried to tell me they didn't have helmet pads...after a little prodding the guy pulled out a huge bin and let me pick some. Yeah...strike 1... After I paid I inquired about a tune up and he starts rattling off that it might need replacement parts, even before he saw the bike. Strike 2 and a major red flag in my mind. Strike 3 was the fact that they had a sliding scale for trueing wheels...so after they struck out, I decided to try fast bikes. I used to go there all the time back in my BMX days and they were always fast and reasonable... They performed the tune up for a reasonable price and didn't try to upsell. They did a great job on it and stuck to the price. Will definitely be back again. Also had them install bar ends which they were also reasonable on as well. I had started looking for a 2009 Giant Reign 2 late in 08 and got the list of dealers in Silicon Valley. Fast Bicycle was on there. They were on the other end of town but worth the drive as they were great to work with and provided me a great deal on the bike I wanted. It took only a couple days for the bike to come in and I picked it up this week. I put 4 because I haven't taken it back for service yet as I just got it and that will be the deciding factor on the last star. read more
