If you are looking for some solid slices look no further than Fascati Pizza. Always hot and fresh. Always lovely service from hardworking folks. I usually get 2 slices and they add pepperoni for me and reheat. I like to dab off the pepperoni grease before adding oregano, garlic and hot pepper. Recently I noticed they offer some house made sodas. I tried the root beer which was delicious. Vibes are chill usually as you would expect for a pizza shop with all kinds of folks and groups. I don't understand the other reviews glazing this place. This place is NOT what NYC pizza should be like. First; they told me cash only. In downtown Brooklyn, that should be the exception not the norm. Second, the pizza was terrible. Dry, flaky, lacking flavor. So of course I needed to add seasoning. I asked for Parmesan cheese. Counter guy looks at me like I landed from Mars. Says we don't have that. Goes back to the conversation with his coworker. I ask how long they've been around, since I've never in my life witnessed an NYC pizza shop not carry parmesan Cheese. Looked at me like I'm crazy and said uhhhhhh 50 years. I was prepared to be impressed with a good old style slice considering they've been around since 1971.the dough for the crust was a little on the heavy side and while the sauce was tasty, it was salty as well. The lack of handwashing and pricing also made this experience a one and done for me. Not yucking anyones yum but there are too many options in the area for a repeat. read more

Good if you're in the area. I'd chose the Sicilian over the regular. The regular has an interesting variation on dough, more flour, I think. The Sicilian has a nice bouncy springy dough, which is unique. Standard cheese, the regular could use a cheese upgrade imho. I observed a horrifying pizza crime while I was here, though: the oven guy was smashing down the crust bubbles on the regular. Do. NOT. I want to smash my own bubbles, thank you. It's a nice walk from the downtown courthouse area. Take note of all the beautiful architecture along the way. read more

LOL though right, because do we even need an excuse to eat one of the best foods on the planet? While Fascati's is currently open for take-out only during this pandemic, please note that the indoor dining space isn't that big anyway. Thankfully there are about four socially distanced tables outside if you want to eat a slice in bliss while you sit. I believe the regular cheese slice was $3 while the ricotta was like $4. I was never for team Fascati. I was in a more localized skirmish between two warring pizza factions, separated by just a few hundred feet on Court St.  The battle line was defined by Schermerhorn St. On a stretch of Court, known more for being the fringe corner of Bklyn Heights. For some maybe, the wrong corner of the neighborhood. There on the northern block was Nick & Joes Pizzeria. They battled Queen Pizzeria, right across Schermerhorn. The Queen Restaurant (a tad more formal than the pizzeria) was there for back up, almost next store. Two Queens, separated by a triple x theatre. Like many veterans, I lost sight of the objective in this pizza war. I came to not  know or understand what the fight was about.  Money, crust, commerce, sauce, service, there was no difference to me.  They were the same, I couldn't tell the difference but for their box or seat at the counter. As the 60s gave way to the 70s, my world got a little bigger. And with it, more fronts in the pizza wars.  In 72' ish, some fringe corner haters waxed poetic about a new pizzeria called Fascati, located on the Heights Northern side. Ironically, it was located near the Height's other movie theatre - the floors weren't as sticky at this one, and movie goers could use the bathrooms. As time passed, the older fronts lost to developers.  RIP Queen and Nick & Joe's (Queen Restaurant came back, only to be killed by covid). But Fascati is still there, 50 years on and still damn good.   On a recent trip, managed to have a couple slices and relive the those years. Thin crusted cheesy goodness - same as it ever was. This is an old-school New York pizza slice joint with fantastic plain slice and white ricotta slice. The slice is crispy and the sauce is really good. Like they removed access to the bathroom at some point, shrank the menu and occasionally have or don't have a TV. The removal of garlic knots for several years was a real bummer. I used to come here all the time for their great pizza when I lived in Brooklyn Heights 20 years ago. I was in the area, starving, and walked over to get a slice. First, a slice and a can of soda was $6.00! This beats everything this pizza lover has ever seen in a counter-by-the-slice place. Second, the pizza was slice was small - 4-5 inches, and the pizza itself was dried out, over-cooked and when heated, the crust was like a shingle - very thick and very hard. Could this have been a fluke? Maybe. But the price, the awful quality, and the minuscule size of the slice really steamed me. I took a bite and threw it away and left in a huff. Mini pan pizza, repeat- mini pan pizza. Three little words & you will die and go to pizza heaven. Where do I begin. Fascatti's- good neighborhood slice joint. Old style plastic booths. A little hot in warmer weather. They have a great system here. The workers- mostly Mexican make the pizza and the owners watch the pies. They use a good, fresh dough here so all slices are "Brooklyn good." The mini pan pizza is $7 and made to order. It takes fifteen minutes. You know who makes it and watches it till it's done. It comes out beautiful- deep dish- that is what this is, made just for you. The sauce is a little sweet, the cheese is super fresh and oozing. Enough for 2- this is a formidable pizza and one of the best old school pizzas, I have ever eaten. I just can't get a regular slice after this. Bingo! read more
