Fresh Fresh Fresh! Did I mention they have a fresh salad bar and as other reviewers have stated is the best salad bar in the area. They also sell a great variety of soups. My personal favorite is the chicken corn chowder. The place gets busy around lunch, which proves how good it is. I like the fact that Brown's is also a Market so I can grab some avocado for my salad. The only tip I would give this place is to allow people to buy sandwiches. Brown's has a deli with Boar's Head products, so why not sell some diesel sandwiches? I'm kind of obsessed with this place. We are in the process of re-doing our kitchen and their amazing salad bar and soups (both with awesome variety) make me super happy since I can grab a healthy lunch here. I live in north reading and go out of my way to come here for a salad/soup. Also great pre-made chicken and eggplant cutlets. Only complaint is that I wish their deli made sandwiches. read more

I was SO disappointed! We travel down to the north shore often and always stop in for a hot, delicious bowl of homemade soup but the last visit was a total let down. Our soups were not the same as they used to be, our veggies were CRUNCHY in the chicken orzo and the Italian Wedding was bland and both were hardly luke warm. They closed for a brief time to retrain new staff. So disappointed with the reopening. Salad bar is lacking, bread sticks were stale, lots of inventory not there anymore, and new staff not as attentive at all. New guy at the deli blatantly ignores the line and helps who he chooses. Everything at Farmer Brown's is great! They recently added the line of Bindi frozen desserts!!!!!!! They are so addictive I sometimes can't pass the store without running in for two for dinner! On top of the quick lunches (and desserts to go), they have produce, spices, cheese and breads. It's a mini farmers market/grocer. They also have a deli I'll try someday soon. Super delicious!! Jus came here after it being closed down for a while and was impressed. I got the chicken and corn shelter and honestly it tasted better than it has before! meh. I had high expectations after reading all of the reviews here, but we must have gone during an off hour or something... We went mainly for the soups. The soup section was crowded and the soups were running low. We got clam chowder, chicken orzo and chili. Overall we thought they were all underwhelming. My sister and I stopped here a few days ago for her to grab a salad for lunch. The store is so cute and I love the variety of items offered! It is a wonderful store that has probably anything you need. I got some delicious Italian wedding soup and she got Chili. The only qualm we had was regarding my sister's semi-severe nut allergy. To start, we saw a cashew laying between two options at the salad bar, which already was a deterrent for her. But then we saw that there was a pitcher of nuts meant to be sprinkled on the salad right in the middle of the bar. There was a line of options, the end table with the nuts and croutons, and then another line of options. This could be really dangerous if someone who had nuts on their salad accidentally touched them with the tongs when putting the second line of toppings onto their meal, only for someone with an allergy to use the same tongs on their own salad. I totally know that not everyone has a nut allergy and don't mean to inconvenience anyone, but this was enough for my sister to just get some lettuce and order a salad from somewhere else on the way home. I wish there was some signage saying nuts should definitely be put on at the very last point, or there were away from the bar. Just a heads up! read more

Love it here!! Everything is so fresh and delicious. I made my own salad at the salad bar, and everything was perfect. The vegetables were perfectly ripe, the lettuce was crunchy and not one wilted leaf was present, the dressing was so yummy, and the dessert I got out of the fridge was to die for! read more

This place is the absolute best for soups and salads. Every time I go there, there is a wide variety of delicious soups to choose from. All are hot and ready, taste delicious. The salad bar is another amazing feature. The fish, vegetables, croutons- all amazing. I always cover my salad in yummy salmon and it's amazing. You get a fresh, happy feeling after every single meal there. Would also highly recommend the buffalo chicken dip, or the chipotle dip. read more

Haven't been here since before COVID pandemic outbreak. Decided to go back today to see if we could get soup and salad bar. Salad bar was open but was disappointed at the lack of items to choose from. The bar use to be pretty big but has been shrunk down and was tiny to say the least. Reminded me of a salad bar in Stop and Shop and was not very appealing, so we skipped this one. We did try the soup. Got the Chicken Orzo. It was hot and the taste was good. However, we tried to sit outside at the picnic tables but they were totally disgusting. Most had bird droppings on them and the few that didn't, were filthy. We ended up eating in the car. Couldn't find a trash barrel anywhere to throw away our used containers so we piled them up in the corner of the entrance way, where many others had dropped their trash. Place has lost its appeal and definitely won't get my business again. Too bad use to be a good place to go for a quick lunch. read more

I went yesterday to grab some chicken noodle soup. They didn t have it so I got a couple of the Italian Wedding soups. The flavor was good, but there were very few meatballs and they looked like they were sliced in half. The soup served when they had the soup bar was loaded with meatballs. The selection of veggies and fruits was ok, but clementines were beginning to rot. There was not much meat to choose from. I only gave two stars because the young woman at the register was so pleasant. I will not return again. read more

I usually only get soup in the colder weather; always plenty to choose from. Farmer Browns is kinda like an old fashioned farm stand, except there no farm behind it. There is a big field so maybe at one time this was a working farm. Located on busy rt 62, its easy to get to from rt's 1 & 95. It's also just a few minutes from rt 114. Good prices, Great produce, nice deli, lots of specialty dips etc & best of all free samples! On most days if your not to late, located just to your left after you walk in you'll find a very generous selection of free samples. All great & likely to make you purchase at least one. Try the caramelized onion & blue cheese dip. Damn good. Nice selection of fresh soups. They also have a huge salad bar, so its a great place to pick up a healthy & affordable lunch or something easy for dinner on the way home from work. One word of warning though. Certain soups while being prepared there can be a bit stinky. I've walked out of there & brought the smell with me. Still its worth the stop. read more

Salad bar, soup bar, cheese section, deli, fresh fruit, best milk, chocolate milk (provided by Pure Country, which has always been good), the apple cyder is damn good. I can't believe I have lived close to this place and have never gone in until about a few weeks ago. The pricing is a bit high, but then again, the quality is up there too, so you know you're paying for something good. They have a wide variety of items, and I'm looking to get a pie from them before I head on over to my folks' place for Thanksgiving since they look heart stopping good. I put Moderate for the price range since the next step up is listed as "Pricey", which they are not...they're somewhere in between Moderate and Pricey...semi-pricey, a bit more than moderate, if you may. If I could yelp about yelp, my only negative remark would be about their rating system's scale limitations. I mean come on, a 5 star system? as in you can only form giving a place a B- to an A+ school grade wise with the difference of only 1 start? This place deserves a 90, but I just can't give it a 100. Enough with the ranting. Give this place a try, but only if you're in the area. There are probably other places in your neck of the woods if this isn't local enough for you that are similar. read more

Shame. I have been a customer here for several years. They are known for their beautiful produce and daily soup selection. I'm assuming that it has either been sold or under new management. Entirely new staff. Produce selection was drastically reduced and lesser quality. Had a chili on a dreary fall day - it was barely warm...and crackers were stale. Also bought the cheesy buffalo chicken dip, which I have had several times before. The consistency was runny and VERY little chicken. read more

Best salad bar I have ever been to and I love salad. It's a bit pricey but you can make a killer salad. Crisp lettuces, salmon, chicken and lots of other fresh toppings. They make some good soups daily and they have the best chicken salad, guacamole, and fresh salsa around. They carry lots of fresh produce so I like that I can grab a fresh peach or something with my lunch, my only complaint is that there is no place to wash it and there is outdoor picnic seating. read more

Farmer Brown's had fresh items at the salad bar and some good supplies, but I didn't see any local produce. The prepared food was also disappointing (particularly the bean salad). Love their soups, chicken salad and salad bar! Wish they had a few more lighter option soups. The deli meats are great and competitively priced. Be warned though, you will come out smelling like Farmer Browns, which isn't always the most pleasant aroma. read more

Short trip to Massachusetts and I stopped by here twice. Perfect for lunch. Had the salad bar and soups. The salad bar is standard but the soups are divine! Had the clam chowder, which had huge chunks of clam and was very thick. French onion soup was also very tasty. Both were accompanied with garlic bread sticks, which are delicious. I love this place and have only regularly started going here over the past 6 months even though I've known about it for years! I'm so glad I've now discovered the goodness that Farmer Brown's has to offer! They have a delicious soup bar with all freshly made hot soups (the chicken and corn chowder is the BEST). There is also a huge salad bar that looks great but we have yet to try it. There's also a quality deli featuring Boars Head meats and cheeses and a big vat of local wildflower honey that you can buy by the pound. It is delicious! And I haven't even mentioned the variety of dips that are available too. We've gotten several so far and all have been really good. The produce is also fresh and much of it is locally grown. The staff is also friendly and helpful. Looking forward to my next trip there, especially to get my fix of chicken corn chowder! read more

Everything from here is very fresh and tasty. I love that they have a deli, fresh bread, prepared foods, desserts, soups, and an amazing salad bar. Plus fresh fruit and veggies, and even some processed foods you might need to make a quick dinner. It is a little overpriced, however the quality overall is quite good. The only negative thing about this place is that they seriously need better ventilation. Every time you go in, no matter how quick (even 2 minutes inside will do it) your clothes/hair smell like food! Even after 2 days I could still smell onions on my winter coat! Really great place to be able to pick up a quick healthy lunch or dinner! They have the best salad bar I've ever seen. They have 10 or 12 hot soups to choose from daily. One time I had the lasagna soup and it was mushy though. Other than that, they've always been good. The people who work here aren't that friendly but you can be in and out so it doesn't matter.
