I grew up on the north shore and remember visiting Brooksby Farm when I was a kid. I visited on Sunday with my 2 kids for storytime and wow has it impressively changed - all positive!!! 1) There's stuff for kids now! Storytimes, playground with views of the animals, a hayride, and more! I highly recommend the storytime. They read 2 stories, sang hello to every child, had songs/rhymes, played with a parachute, crafts, and even apples, donuts, and cider - all amazingly free!!! The playground was fun for my 2 year old son and 7 year old daughter, but best for the 1.5-6 age range. There are rest rooms beside the farm store, but they're medal toilets with no seats, so my daughter refused to use them. (I don't blame her.) That's the only thing that kept this from a 5 star experience. We'll be back soon. Worth the hour drive from where we live on the south shore. read more

I had a great experience! I came here for PYO peaches and blueberries. The blueberries were $4 for a small carton or $6 for a large one. The peaches were $20 for a bag that fit about 20. There were lots to pick from and the employees were friendly. This farm is very big I would definitely consider coming back for some of their other picking seasons. read more

I popped in here in the early fall season before there's absolute mayhem for sure! We arrive to the orchard and notice how spread out it is. It is a TON of walking. At this point, I should've called it. We continued on and headed to the "Farm/Country Store" to grab some Cider Donuts. I know they go quickly and I figured it was best to grab them right away. They also offer a cider cart OUTSIDE that has them WARM. The line was easily 100-people deep. They are either incredibly understaffed and/or inefficient. The country/farm store has an incredible selection of house-made sauces, butters, dips, marinades, salsas, honey, maple syrup, spices, and so much more! They have a huge selection of craft candies, sweets, and savory items. I picked up some Peach Salsa and some Queso Dip. I look forward to trying them! You'll also find a huge selection of fresh produce, baked goods, and of course: Apples! They have a wide selection of baked goods like Whoopie Pies, Cookies, Cider Donuts, Pies, Turnovers, Elephant Ears, and so much more! Produce wise you'll find grape/cherry tomatoes,heirloom tomatoes, fresh carrots, hot peppers, fresh corn, squash, and of course: Apples! They also have your typical Knick-Knacks for the home and unique toys for the kids. They have a small selection of dog treats that are made here on the East Coast. The farmhouse may have an amazing selection. The problem is the place is a total cluster to get thru. People are constantly running into each other due to the line being backed up into the back of the store. It takes a good amount of time to get up front to just checkout. They do have fresh cider in the coolers by the register. I did like they offered their cider in individual sizes. I hate buying a half-gallon and it being too much to finish. They also have a canned, sparkling cider that looks phenomenal. Prices inside the farm store are very reasonable. A half peck of apples pre-picked are $12 for half a peck, $20 for a full peck. They have multiple varieties available. Our favorite is the McIntosh. We went with a half-peck that was pre-packed instead of picking our own. More on this below. We headed out to the orchard to pick our own Apples. The problem: they have no way to get out to the orchard, which is VERY spread out. I expected a tractor with a hayride or something. Maybe it's just a Midwest thing. I've never been to an orchard that required such a large amount of walking. Most places offer a hayride for a charge. A charge I'd have happily paid! That said, we chose to go with the pre-packed half-peck of McIntosh apples. They all looked phenomenal and in great shape, not bruised or beat up. No holes or anything from insects/bugs. We went out to see if we had any chance of getting a hot cider donut. The line just never moved and the entire day would've been spent standing in line. So, we headed to see the animals. The country store DOES offer food to feed the TWO animals we saw. I am not joking. There were literally two animals on premises. It was the most disappointing thing. I would never pay any admission for this. There was very little for kids to really do here. It became clear: it's a money maker for the city. The city owns and operates the farm and orchard. If you look around back, they have crates of pumpkins and apples. They're selling their product, like many farms do. No problem. But focus on the fall experience FIRST. I won't lie, it was so disappointing that we left early and went out to Salem. They do have a nice selection of pumpkins, both orange and white! They have a solid selection of sizes: from small to jumbo. The price is reasonable on the pumpkins and gourds. This was probably the least disappointing part for me. They wanted $30+ to pick your own. That also includes at least a mile of walking just to get to trees with apples on them. Most people seemed to just buy the pre-packed as well. It's a true disappointment to me. The donuts were not very good either. Very dense and somewhat dry, in my opinion. They don't even use any sugar on the outside, as most places do. I think I've had better from the grocery store bakery. Taste is subjective, so you may like them! They need to overhaul this experience before next year. It was a true disappointment and I'd tell anyone looking for an orchard to go to Central Massachusetts. It wasn't worth the time, money, or effort for such a disappointing experience. read more

Stopped by for some apple picking which was really fun. Weather was perfect and there were so many apples! They did only have 3 varieties available for picking when we went in October but it sounded like a little later, they do have other varieties normally. The apples we had though were all tasty and crisp! They also had some vegetables out that you could buy to feed their animals. Kind of strange they only had one of each animal but they were very cute and lots of fun to watch them eat. A fun way to spend a few hours. My partner and I visited for some apple picking and had a great time! There were some trees at the front picked clean but after a bit of a walk there were so many trees with tons of apples! I will say wear comfortable, sturdy shoes to come pick apples! There are some fallen apples or animal scavenged apples and you don't want to roll your ankle. Terrible experience. Nothing but infected apples....they had holes, mealy, soft. Plus, no McIntosh avail, only Empires and Cortlands. We struggled to fill a bag. Apple picking was a horrible experience. Gates were not open on time. Had to call and ask someone to open. The apples in the field they directed everyone to were heavily infested with worms and bugs. Most disgusting apple picking experience we have ever had. Workers were unbothered when informed of the condition of the apples and did not offer another field. I was part of a small group that came by for summer berry picking and we all had a great time. Second weekend of July there were plenty of raspberries and blueberries to go around. We were not that interested in cherries and it looked like those trees were more heavily picked anyway. I also found out that due to inconsistency of their crops, Brooksby does not grow strawberries anymore. We paid $4 a person to pick the berries plus paid for each box we filled. Kids don't have to pay to get in, which was nice since mine can't walk on his own yet! Before and after we perused their indoor market area and picked up some produce and other foodstuffs. The prices for them varied from cheap to a tad expensive so keep an eye out. There are also a couple pigs, a donkey, and some chickens you feed and look at, plus a fenced play area for kids. The lines of people without spacing was quite concerning for my small group so we left pretty quickly after getting donuts. There were hardly any staff to enforce the regulations and everyone was gathered around the petting zoo section, even feeding whole cobs of corn to animals. One looked like it was going to choke. A friend and I were in town from Chicago, and our main goals were to spend time in Salem and Boston. While here in Massachusetts, we perused Yelp for recommended pumpkin patches, specifically patches where we could find some real apple cider and cider doughnuts, and all roads led to Brooksby! We were blown away by the gorgeous trees leading up to the farm from the main road, and already we were hooked on all Brooksby had to offer. We arrived at the farm in the afternoon on a Friday in early October, and there was plenty of parking available. The giant red barn was welcoming and made for an authentic autumn experience, and when we went inside we felt like the season of fall was giving us a warm embrace. While inside the barn, we found plenty of locally-made treats, and most importantly, we found both cold and warm cider, and warm doughnuts! Doughnuts on their own are $1 each or available for purchase by the bag as well. We each grabbed a cider and doughnut, and walked around the pumpkin patch enjoying our snacks. After taking some adorable pumpkin patch photos and meeting some cute animals like llamas and goats, we finally felt like we were experiencing New England in autumn like a local. My friend and I were there last weekend. Disappointing. Every single type of apple is 2.49 a pound in the store. Way overpriced. Pies were 16.00. We actually came exclusively for the warm sugary apple cider donuts. They were not warm nor sugary! They were very dry and there was no option to buy just ONE we had to buy 1/2 a dozen. Are you promoting obesity just to get money for your farm? If so you better make those donuts damn good! We ate only 1/2 a donut each and thought they were awful. We tossed the rest in the trash. I was searching for a pumpkin and an employee who works at Brooksby Farm "Michelle", was so helpful. At first she pointed out that they only had the sugar pumpkins in the shop and then pointed out that there where still some outside but not the kind I was looking for. While I was browsing in the shop I ended up buying 2 sugar pumpkins to see if they would work in my recipe as I was getting into my car Michelle had searched and found the last remaining pumpkin and swapped out with me before leaving. We usually try to come at least once a year to shop. There's local food items available like vegetables, honey, jams, sauces, apples, cider, cakes, monkey bread, pies, and milk. The items are either grown and made in Brooksby Farm or are locally sourced. In early fall they do have apple picking. My wife and I have done it once or twice, we love it but alas, we don't usually have time to do it. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the cider donuts are delicious (and you can buy them fresh!) and the vegetables are fresh and tasty. I am disappointed in this farm as they claim to be accessible, however, I was questioned multiple times regarding the validity of my service animal. As a person with a disability and a service dog handler I know my rights. I do not need to announce to the entire venue when I enter that my dog is a service animal. It is completely inappropriate, disrespectful, and rude for staff to whisper amongst themselves and say that my dog is not a service animal. Brooksby Farm should educate themselves on service animal rights. To start, service animals are not required to wear a vest or badge. Would not recommend if you are a person with a disability that wants to enjoy a day at the farm without being interrogated about bringing your service animal. read more

I stopped into the farmstand store today and picked up some peaches, blueberries, green beans, zucchini, corn and rainbow carrots. I love this store the veggies look great. Every time I've shopped here it's been clean and they have a great selection of yummy looking foods. I'm vegan so I am limited to what I buy here but they have some really delicious looking gifty foods. The blueberries were a really good price and were absolutely delicious, I hope they have them next week. I never see flies in the store unlike a very popular place up in Ipswich. Brooksby farm is a historic farm dating back to the 1600s. The city of Peabody was able to acquire the farm for a significantly lower price than developers were offering, which is a credit both to the city and the heirs. In addition to a large working apple orchard, there is a mostly forested perimeter trail. Brooksby Farm is located on a hill with great views of Danvers to the north. You don't have to spend a penny to enjoy a day at Brooksby, there is even a small animal farm with goats, chickens, sheep, and other animals. The produce isn't inexpensive, but the cider and apples are superb. Every time I go I'm grateful for this historic place that could easily have become a condo development like "Brooksby Village". read more

Stay away from this place if you're looking to save some money by picking your own fruit. For my mother and I to pick 2 pints of blueberries, it cost TWENTY dollars. We could have gone to another farm and bought 2 pints for cheaper, and not had to pick them ourselves. Their system for charging makes you pay per person and per pint. I've been going to pick-your-own farms my whole life and never experienced anything like this. Why should the customer have to pay EXTRA to provide the labor of picking? It just doesn't make sense. While picking the berries, I noticed a massive poison ivy plant growing up and around one of the bushes. Definitely not a great place to have children, or anyone, picking berries from! Other than that, the picking itself wasn't bad except for the loud blaring hawk noises they play over a speaker to scare away birds. I understand this is there to protect the fruit, but again, I've been picking berries my whole life and haven't ever had to endure such loud noises blaring in my ear. I will say that despite the awful prices, it is a beautiful farm. Additionally, there were plenty of ripe berries and we filled our pints all the way up fairly quickly. If you just want to go and pick your own for the fun of the "experience" and don't mind being ripped off, this might be the place for you. read more

Definitely take a trip here, there are apples to pick & store to buy other goodies from. There are several varieties of apples to pick from but of course it depends on the time of the year you go. It was hard to figure out some of the apples since there was no map or noticable signage. I ended up going to the store & spending way too much money on many of their baked goods. Well, let me just say it was way worth it. I am such a fan of everything pumpkin so getting muffins, bread & pie are the way to go. There are also the cider donuts that are made in a separate area but also necessary to get, they are delicious. Apple picking mania! Hot cider, warm donuts and farm animals...check! Brooksby Farm was a great way to spend a sunny fall afternoon. It's on vast acreage with tons of apple trees. They surely will not be running out of apples. I found the apple peck prices reasonable cause there was no separate admission charge. About $7 for 15 apples in a bag, then the prices goes up slightly with the bigger bags. You can take a hayride out to the orchards for $3 each or $5 for 2 people. Even if your not picking its a fun way to get a tour of the land. From the hills you can see beautiful foliage all around. The country store inside is loaded with so many goodies, all home made or locally made. They had a huge selection of canned jars of everything from jellies to soy candles. Then bagged pastries, pancake mixes and bread. Even frozen dessert and chicken pies. If your looking to make a gift basket for someone you could get a bunch of neat stuff in there. You must go into the back of the store and try one of the warm cider donuts with a hot cider. They are out of this world. Then take them outside and walk around the land. You'll encounter hogs, chickens, turkeys, ostriches, llamas, sheep, goats and maybe some others I'm forgetting. The pumpkin selection was in the hundreds, all shapes, sizes and colors, then around 50cents a lb. Also gourds and decorative corn too. Go here for a country getaway! The best. It is imperative that you come early in the season, though- because everyone knows they're the best. Apple picking on a week day is ideal, but if not- be patient and probably go for a smaller bag. The donuts are the real draw here. And if you come on a cooler day (or are just a dare devil), the warm cider is way better than the cold (also good but doesn't even hold a candle to warm). There's also animals and you can buy feed in the store. Other pros? A pumpkin patch, and all sort of goodies in the store- from veggies to cookies to honey. read more

What a charming place! But note to self- come earlier in the season. They aren't kidding when their site says their season lasts from 9/9-10/9. The two cherry trees that had edible fruit on them had people crowding around them. The rest of the cherry trees had rotten moldy fruit and the birds had eaten parts of the fruits. It was gross and I would imagine it was a health hazard. All the rain lately causes berries to get moldy easily and this was also the case with the raspberries. They should not have been letting people into those orchards but I get the feeling they are quite greedy. There are signs everywhere forbidding you to taste what you pick. They don't even give you bags for your berry basket because they don't want you to have any more than exactly what you buy. Do you understand how much food waste happens in these orchards? God forbid someone have an extra bite of fruit. All in all we spend $30 on berries. And this would be fine because because it's also about the experience.
