What a cute, quaint farm stand/grocery! My friend brought me here after a bike ride and I was amazed by the selection and prices. Farm fresh eggs are only $3.99/dozen- which is an incredible deal! The store has a large greenhouse with gorgeous flowers. There is a wide selection of produce- mostly from Tendercrop, but some from other places. The prices were very reasonable and the quality was spectacular. There is a butcher shop and a. Extensive selection of baked goods- including many gluten free options. I purchased a slice of Raspberry Crumb cake, strawberry rhubarb turnovers, and some Shark gummies. The crumb cake was buttery and rich, and the turnovers were light and flaky. The gummies were a gift for someone else, but they said they were probably the softest/freshest gummies they've ever had. We've been buying meat and produce for 27 years from Tendercrop in Newbury . that they opened in Wenham was a thrill. 2 days ago, at the Wenham location I bought grass fed ribeye steaks like we always do, and they were the worst pieces of meat we've ever had. Didn't even want to feed it to the dogs. Blueberries were mushy, strawberries had no flavor. Went back yesterday to grab a few things, no manager on duty to share my experience..., I tried. I can't believe that the owner would be pleased, but if you don't have a manager on duty, don't expect me to wait to reach out about my experience. Premium prices which we gladly pay for outstanding quality, however not for meat that is worse than grocery store quality. Extremely disappointing, and has happened a few times in the past year where the beef was mediocre at best. I believe unless something changes, we will not return and certainly won't ever recommend Tendercrop any longer. read more

I've bought meat at Tendercrop Newburyport , as well as wenham and the quality as well as the service has gone down in past 4 years. Yesterday I bought stew beef at Wenham store and it was absolutely the worst I have ever seen- it looked, after I got it open from the twisted up bag maybe to cover what was inside, like trimmings that were being thrown out!! I had to make dinner so I tried trimming it , but could not save but a few small pieces. This messed up my dinner for 2 nights now and I'm angry. A place with some much excellent meat yet the people they chose to work the counters seem to go out of there way to screw up the product . The Hamburg was the best around- diet lean. We live in Beverly and we've been coming to Tendercrop for years for both local and non-local produce, fresh and dried flowers, and plants. We have never been misled by anyone there as to what produce is the farm's and what is not - everything is very clearly marked - and the staff is always super helpful and friendly. They have awesome Christmas trees that are affordable and they are great about adhering to Covid rules. When they do have homemade frozen pizza it's the bomb, loads of fresh veggies on a tasty crust. Tendercrop is more expensive than a grocery store but I regularly get a few items there to support a local farm instead of a supermarket chain. read more

This farm stand has amazing produce; purple potato fingerlings, kale, various types of squash (including cousa squash, my personal favorite and difficult to find!), beautiful fruits and a great array of hard to find items. My father lives in the area and we stopped by on a whim. The staff was super friendly and they also had lots of plants (including herbs and blooming squash plants) for sale that you could go plant in your own garden. Im so disappointed! We recently moved to the area and were really excited to see someplace where we could buy farm fresh local produce. Today we made our first visit there to buy a Christmas tree. They had a sign up saying they would deliver trees for $10. Perfect. We had our 18 month old and 3 week old baby in the car, it was 28 degrees out..delivery sounded perfect. We picked out a $100 tree - not many left this late but buying local is important to us. We went to pay and were told we were too late for delivery ( it was 2:45pm) and we couldn't arrange delivery the next day huh?? Then asked if we could have some help getting tree on car..apparently they are unable to help with trees. There were 3 people working and no customers. We left without tree. Tendercrop you lost the sale of $100 tree and a family of future customers. read more

Don't be fooled into coming here. Multiple issues with this place. First, you would assume that much of the produce sold here would be from their own farm - especially as it's in peak season. Well that is not the case. This farm stand attempts to mislead you by having a ton of produce in their store with signs above the produce that say the name of their farm. There aren't grocery store stickers on the produce so one would assume that meant the produce was from their farm. I was even lied to by a guy stocking the berries who told me the berries were picked from their farm. When checking out, I felt suspicious of this place and asked the girl who rung me up if what I was purchasing was from their farm. I was told that nothing was from their farm excepts eggs. This place is a scam. Do yourself a favor and go to a real farm stand with local produce! read more

A trip to Canaan Farm marks the beginning of fall and spring for me. The produce is local and the owners are helpful and friendly. Their fresh baked pies are perfect for tailgating and holiday parties and I have to hide their cookies from my family. When the sunflowers are in season, they are spectacular! We always get our mums and Christmas tree there too. The owners even know most of their customers by name! 10/31/2015: Canaan Farm is now owned and operated by Tendercrop Farm. The farm looks pretty much the same but the new owners have expanded the food and gift offerings. Still friendly but I do miss the original owners. The upside is that Tendercrop will be open year 'round! read more

I was excited to stop here for some fresh fruit & veg on our way home from Crane Beach. However, I was very disappointed. We spent $30 on strawberries, blueberries, plums, peaches, corn, and a loaf of home made olive oil bread. It was on the pricier side and much of their produce was from other farms. I know their 1/2 pint blueberries were from New Jersey and the strawberries were from Canada. Also, the strawberries I bought on Sunday were found to have moldy strawberries at the bottom of the wooden container the very next afternoon on Monday. I ended up throwing 1/3 of the container away. What a waste of money! I would've been a happy camper if everything was fresh and delicious, but that was not the case. The corn and bread was good while the peaches were perfectly ripened and delicious, just the way you expect fruit to taste purchased from a farm during a New England summer. The blueberries, strawberries, and plums cost much more than the grocery store & were comparable in quality if not slightly less desirable. However, the staff was very friendly and sociable. read more

This vendor is now Tendercrop, I'm not sure there's a Canaan sign anymore, so look for Tendercrop. They are open year round, the amount of locally grown veggies shifts by season and local items are well marked as such. I particularly like the prepared pizzas, quiches & stuffed peppers. If an ingredient in the prepared food is available at one of their farms, it makes its way into the packaged item. For instance, while I don't know if the farms are technically certified as humanely raised, the manager had a lot of information about how their pigs are treated, ie, access to outdoors in good weather, not kept in cages, etc. And the bacon in the quiche is from their farms. So I can have the occasional indulgence of heating up something easy, while not resorting to a product using crate raised pigs, factory prepared & packaged & then shipped from halfway across the U.S. I think the prepared items are made at their Newbury farm. They also have a grind your own peanut butter machine, a wide selection of grass fed meats & poultry, & fresh herbs. They carry a lot of farm baked breads & sweets, as well as carrying a small line of gluten free items & a line of baked goods with only fair/sustainably traded ingredients. (The second being, I think, Pure Pastry, on the baked goods shelf up high. ) I probably do about half of my produce shopping in the winter, more in summer, & all my meat/poultry shopping there. The prices are sometimes a little more than at a stop n shop but a LOT less than two of the other CSA type places I've checked out. Especially the cage free eggs. There are definitely NO $7.50 per dozen cartons of eggs at Tendercrop! If you have questions about the sourcing/treatment of the livestock check with Rebecca, the manager, she has answered all my questions easily, as well as some Really odd ones I've overheard from other people while shopping & never looks at anyone like their nuts. Canaan is now being run by Tendercrop Farm of Newbury. It is fabulous. They opened today and I stopped just because they had fresh eggs which are hard to find. The price for eggs,was 2.79...great price. Vegetables so gorgeous I wanted to buy as i belong to a CSA I needed nothing. I did buy harvest corn for my door, a bag of just picked apples some mums they grew themselves and a to die for blueberry pie I NEVER buy pies as I Make them This pie was as good as any i could make and the price was right. Dissapointing. I used to go here all the time before Tendercrop was here- literally every week in the season to buy all my fruits and veggies. Today, the first trip with the new owners, and they were incredibly rude and unhelpful (even grabby at the register!)I was a bit shocked and tried to talk in a friendly manner about how I used to shop there once a week- no matter they continued to be completely uninterested and in fact, seemed to be overall bothered by having to wait on me as a customer. I will definitely give them the benefit of the doubt for now, as I like supporting local farms, but I'd say this is their one strike out of two or three! Hope your experience is better! read more

A few of my favorite things about Canaan Farm are their lettuces, herbs, and veggie starts. Each year I plant a small garden of my own and I always buy my starter plants from Canaan Farm because I know they were grown in healthy soil with sustainable practices and love. If you're planting your own garden, I highly recommend buying plants from Canaan. And what you don't plant, you can buy from them throughout the season. They truly love what they do and have an incredible work ethic which shows in their delicious and beautiful products. read more

We just discovered their fresh baked multi-grain sour dough bread. Oh, is that yummy for toast. My husband thinks they bake it there, but I mean to find out so I can get me some. Canaan Farms is always full of familiar, friendly faces as it's run by family. It is set up in a lovely way, full of fresh food and some specialty items, and fresh-grown flowers from their garden. My summer/fall favorite is their home-made garlic baguette. It's usually warm and full of garlic cloves. In winter, you can make a personal order of gorgeous wreaths and winter decorations for inside and outside. Hope you visit--it is one of my favorite places to visit. read more
