    The Garden School

I found "The Garden School" by chance via a recommendation in the Beverly Facebook group. There's a…read morefarm stand at the entrance selling apples, zucchini, and kale among other fruits and veggies. Further up the dirt path is a huge vegetable and flower garden. Visitors are encouraged to explore the garden using the clover paths. My first trip to the Garden School was during their Friday garden happy hour. On select Fridays, you can stop by with booze in hand as this event is BYOB and explore the gardens at your leisure. The school is managed by two brothers and much of the work here is undertaken by volunteers. Make sure to support your local farmers! Oh, and there's plenty of parking in the lot! The Garden School is simply and amazing place. You can shop at the Farm Stand--which is the…read moreschool's very own Farmers Market right here in your home town, or you can come and volunteer. The Garden School is designed for young adults and teenagers to come and learn farming in real time within their own community. The farm stand teaches youth about business, interaction with the public, selling produce and flowers and customer service. They can also learn how to run a small farm. Working just a few hours per week, one can gain valuable hands-on experience on a real community garden/farm working whatever aspect they choose or they could learn the entire operation. Jon and Ben who run the Garden School are fantastic and patient teachers who love working with our youth and love what they are doing providing a valuable service to this community. The Farm Stand is a great alternative to mass made/chemistry laden produce. This is a place to buy truly fresh picked (that morning or maybe right then as you are buying) produce and flowers grown the all natural way like you would do in your own backyard garden. You can See, Smell and Taste the difference and it cannot get any fresher! Check out my photos and you will see what I am talking about. This is my go to place to volunteer. It is outdoors in the fresh air and it is an absolutely wonderful group of people and an outstanding garden and food stand.

I've been going to Henry's for the 32 years I've lived in Beverly…read more I consider it to be a reliable place to get quality food. It's expensive, and usually worth it. Especially great are their premade foods by the deli counter. Their different types of chicken salad is a favorite of my husbands. Their cookies are decent, especially the butter crunch. Their house made chicken pot pie is very popular with so many people, I have brought it to friends when they are home sick and I don't want to cook. No one is disappointed with that. They make all their food in-house. So good. Their desserts are quite good. Recently had a small event and didn't feel like cooking. I supplemented with a gallon of their hearty vegetable soup, and their little desserts. The veggie soup was just too healthy to be popular with this crowd, so that was a bad choice on my part. The desserts were a bit hit. They have flowers, cute paper goods, great house made hamburgers, we go there often. Never disappointing, but much more expensive than Shaws or Market Basket. Having said that, we feel it is worth it.

I went to the bakery to buy some pastries and there were flies covering the food. I explained to the young man that there was a problem there and he shrugged his shoulders and continued to sell the pastries to customers. The men who work in the deli are just outright rude. I asked a man to make me sandwich and he rolled his eyes slamming the food like I asked him to donate a kidney. I spoke with the manager and he said "Yeah, we have a high turnover. Sorry" The store is old and gross.
