TERRIBLE! Me and my boyfriend were visiting from California and got there at 8 50 pm, we were told the kitchen was closed but we could still have some drinks. We went to the bar area and the lady at the counter didn't acknowledge us up until 10 mis after. I had to approach the counter to order something but she said she would come to the table; after a few minutes she came over and asked us what we wanted and never returned with our drink. Here I am at the parking lot writing this review and she's just there on her phone. She was never busy and it looked as if tho she just didn't want to help us at all. Very sad and dissapointing experience. NEVER going back there ever and I will make sure to let all of my islanders friends know about this place and the terrible lady attitude. Definitely a locals place but as vacationers we enjoyed our meal. Deluxe Nachos were OUT Of THIS WORLD good. They don't look like much in the picture, but we all agreed that the nachos were our favorite: cheesy, perfect amount of toppings, & large side of sour cream and salsa to go with it. I also ordered the French onion soup which I raved about as well! The food overall was so delicious and we left full and happy. We sat in the bar area inside, but it looks like they have a great outdoor space. There are lots of options on their menu. I was able to add fried calamari to my salad which is always a favorite of mine. They definitely struggle with service. Our server was not very attentive or friendly. With that being said, the bus boy went above and beyond his duties and filled in for the server. Not only was he clearing and wiping down the tables, he brought us napkins, mustard, takeout containers, offered to refill our waters, WOW he was just great! Another issue we had was that our entrees came out a few minutes after we received our appetizers. Having all the food practically come out at the same time was very disappointing. I ate there a year ago and it was fine. Good pub food is how I'd describe it: Service was fine as well. This year we stopped by and tried to make a reservation for 11 people at 7. We stopped by around 5 to make this resy. They did say they didn't do reservations but would make sure they get us in at 7 and took a $10 tip. We show at 7 for our dinner.....we are told 45 to 1 hour wait. When we pointed out our agreement (that was written down and in front of the reception ladies) somebody with authority (although dressed in jean shorts and tennis shoes....(so I'm not sure if she was the manager) was extremely rude....called us rude within 30 seconds and said it's too bad they are short staffed and couldn't do better. I guess we won't ever be back. It was pretty embarrassing to be talked to like that. Too bad, I like their location and I'm a fan of pub food and beer. read more

My family loves Faregrounds Pub and I believe there must be a new chef since the menu is healthier than in the past. Showed up to all you can eat prime rib night and after ordering ONE the blonde server tells us...be mindful of others here..don't get to many orders its all you can eat but not unlimited. She then tells us we can't split the bill although its been split every time we have eaten there. She ignored us multiple times. I've been here three times but only had the opportunity that eat twice. The location close to where we're staying so access was a huge motivating factor in coming here. Parking lot is huge and something you're not used to seeing in these parts. The limited but welcoming front porch looks like a nice place to grab a beer during sunset. Those are the pros which certainly weren't able to make up for the cons. Our first visit wasn't memorable for better or worse. I couldn't even recall what I had, I'm sure it was fine and not even review worthy. Our adventure begins on our second visit. Our waitress told us the bar was full and there were no seats, we pointed out a table in the corner and she had the look on her face that early man must have had at the creation of fire. After some confusion we were allowed to sit at the table and we waited to be severed. We waited Oh boy how we waited Our server glanced in our direction once or twice. Even served the table next to us, a few dismissive looks and about 20 minutes later we decided he just had no intention of serving us and decided to go somewhere else. If you don't want our business then we'll spend our money elsewhere. So in a forgiving mood we showed back up this evening because why not? You can imagine our concern when we walked in with a nearly empty bar area and waited to be seated And waited And waited Our hostess was polite enough to give us the ""wait a second" index finger while she did some writing in her notebook. We were seated and had the same waiter that ignored us the previous week. He put in a slightly better effort tonight. He read the specials and then only came by once or twice the rest of the night not saying one single word, no eye contact and entirely dismissive. My draft beer was served in a clean glass but through absolutely filthy draft lines which made the beer undrinkable. They do make good use of the microwave however and the reheated mozzarella sticks and fries that came with my turkey club had that pleasant tepid kids meal grocery store like mom used to reheat and then leave out on top of the stove for an hour or so goodness that we all hope for when we spend $110 on a meal for three. Great place! Looks like a locals place but there were vacationers here and the staff was very welcoming. Food was great, I had the ribs and chicken barbeque with rice and a summer squash veggie mix. Big portions and it was terrific. With the entree comes an all u can eat salad bar, that's pretty loaded. The Pudleys Punch is a winner too! My wife had baked stuffed shrimp which she loved. My son ordered the Mexican pizza, this place is probably not popular for its pizza, but this was not bad. Went on a Sunday evening with wife and 19 year old son. We'd been here before and ordered off the pub menu with good results. This time we ordered from the dinner menu and were very disappointed all around. Our server was good, friendly and efficient. Place is nice, big and plenty of room and staff. We checked the salad bar and found it small but respectable. However unless you order from the dinner menu it's 15.99 extra. We all wanted salad bar so dinner menu it was. I had fried seafood platter with fries. Cod, shrimp, scallops either over cooked or frozen, couldn't tell. Meal came with beets - which weren't on menu and which if find disgusting. Just dumped on my plate. My son had linguine with clams, mostly chopped but a few whole. Not bad flavor but very greasy. My wife had shrimp scampi. The shrimp were small but tasted ok. Her dish was even greasier. In fact it looked like scampi soup with a base of grease. She managed to pick off some of the shrimp but for the entree was essentially inedible. Her complaints were met with assurances that the kitchen would be informed but it showed up on our bill none the less. I would stick to the pub menu if you try this place. Burgers and wings looked good. Avoid the dinner menu, whoever is in the kitchen has no self respect. read more

Very kid friendly and a lot of locals go there. The host and bartender were really nice and had great personalities, especially the bartender. FOOD ORDERED: JAMAICAN JERK BREADED CHICKEN WINGS: THE BEST WINGS I THINK I'VE EVER HAD! The breading on it was delicious and had a nice perfect crisp to it. The sauce and seasoning were done to perfection. Really bummed it only came in five because I could've had a ton more of those. SERVICE: Considering my friend knew the bartender and pretty much everyone else in there, service was great. The bartender was on top of it making drinks and was very aware of when you were almost done with your drink to get you another one without having to ask. Never going here again. Server was rude and racist to our group. We came in first thing after tells us can't split the check, implying that we should leave heavily implying we should leave we were hungry so we're like we're cool with that. We order our drinks she disappears for 20 minutes brings our drinks takes our order. Drinks are empty no food brought 45 minutes later our order comes out. Tells our group and only our group that there is a limit to the all you can eat we ordered now we had just gotten our food and asked her to put in a second order so while we eat it can be made. Another 45 minutes goes by before our next order comes out it's incorrect so we wait some more. Drink refills still not coming out and when we stop her to ask for refills she gets annoyed. Now we're a good sized group 5 of us she ignored us and expected a big tip when the bill came. Not all of us tipped because she did not do anything to make us feel welcomed or wanted. Plus we were the only large diverse group of customers. Then she chases us into the parking lot after treating us terribly all night to cuss us out because the tip was small. The way she treated us and the things she said to our group she didn't do to the other people in her section and the other people in her section weren't culturally diverse like our group was. 10/10 would not recommend server needs to be fried you don't treat anyone or profile anyone like that ever. read more

Faregrounds has gone through many phases for me. It started off as my favorite pizza place on island (2001-2004), with some awesome combos like the buffalo chicken pizza and the Altar Rock (pepperoni, sausage, linguica, chicken). Then it started to really suck. From 2005-2008 I banned it from my food list. Slow service, sloppy cooking, etc. It was a sad, sad era. However, in an act of pure nostalgia a friend and I returned to our roots and tried the Faregrounds one more time. The pizza was great, and they had 10-15 beers on tap. However, the best part was that every night they have a different all you can eat special for 12.99 (and a free salad bar!). We haven't tried it yet, but the Wednesday night ribs and wings special sounds awesome. read more

We stopped in on a weekday for some appetizers and to watch a World Cup game. The bar was packed! Considering there were no televisions outside, and us being a group of six, we decided to eat in the dining room. The food was great! Clam chowder was creamy and delicious. Wings were meaty and tasty. Mussels were tender and flavorful. (don't kiss anyone after those, the garlic in this dish is serious) I was very satisfied with the food I tried. Their Sangria on the other hand, was horrible. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and it was honestly difficult to drink. It tasted like Tang mixed with watered down white wine, disgusting. I'm a regular sangria drinker, so please trust me when I say this is the worst sangria I've ever had thus far. Needless to say, the pitcher and most of our glasses remained full when leaving. Our waitress was friendly and extremely peppy. Staff was attentive, although, almost too much. Someone came and cleared our plates while we still had food on the table and were waiting for the next round of appetizers to be brought out. I suppose that would've been fine except they were then replaced with smaller plates and missing utensils. Just seemed silly. Not to mention when we objected and said we weren't finished just yet, we got a cold "I know, I'm just clearing the table" with no personable reaction like a smile or eye contact even, just a very serious and rushed demeanor. That whole transaction just seemed unnecessary. In conclusion, get there early for big games if you want a good seat, the food is great; try their clam chowder, the staff members are mostly friendly and personable, but heed my warning, stay away from their sangria!!!! read more

Fantastic nachos. We go out of our way to get them because the chips are fully covered in cheese and veg (and chicken if you want). The veg includes broccoli and mushrooms too! We asked for no olives and got no jalapenos as well...so if you get the nachos and want jalapenos be sure to ask for them special! The person working there seemed like it was her first day because when we went to pick up our order she said we already collected it....turns out she charged someone else for it and charged them about 5 dollars more than she should have and they didn't notice. We stop here at least once every year during the week we visit. Decent food for decent prices and a good amount of outdoor seating. Probably wouldn't bother sitting inside unless money's tighter than usual. Potato skins are always really good and I've heard fries are good recently as well. Never had anything that was terrible. Uniquely blue collar relative to what's available on the island, but it's a nice break from hangin with the bourgeoisie. read more

This Nantucket gem is inland a bit more, but worth the journey. Real people, comfort food, and accommodating to the sports enthusiast with lots of TV's. I've dined in the bar, as well as the main dining area and on the outside patio. Summer provides a wide assortment of frozen girly drinks, and the Oyster stew was to die for (it was a special). Lots of room for small or large parties. Other menu items that were great: fish n chips, duck tenders, fried green beans, surf n turf special, shrimp stuffed with seafood and wrapped in bacon, too many things to remember. Also, they have early bird specials and great nightly "all you can eat." Staff is always friendly, and the prices are great for Nantucket. Will visit every time I come to the Island. On vacation to the island for first time last week. I came in based on being told about the great prime riib special. I was alone, and when I walked in door, I told hostess I wanted to sit at bar, and was advised that she had to seat me. I was taken to a table in the bar area, but all by myself and not even close enough to talk or inquire with the regulars about the area. Salad bar and plates were empty when i went to get my salad and had to wait for someone to bring more. Prime Rib was tender and good and the Waitress that served me was good at her job. I tipped her well for her service.
