Fancypants is in East Nashville on Dickerson Pike, leans into a playful "fine dining that's fun" identity, comes from the team behind Butcher & Bee/Redheaded Stranger, and is known for a prix-fixe, vegetable-forward approach in a bold, circus-inspired, moody interior. My buddy and I were in Nashville doing what two grown men on a trip are supposed to do: make questionable decisions with confidence and eat somewhere with a name like Fancy Pants. And let me say this first: the people here are absolute stars. The host, waitress, and staff were all incredibly kind, warm, attentive, and genuinely cared. Top-tier hospitality. The kind of team that makes you want to succeed on their behalf. If Yelp had a category for emotional intelligence, these folks are running a solid 10/10. Now, the restaurant itself? Super cool space. Very stylish, very theatrical, very "someone here definitely owns velvet." It has that playful, moody, creative East Nashville energy where you walk in and immediately think, "Ohhh, this place has a personality." And it does. A lot of it. Then the food arrived. My buddy and I ordered the steak, and unfortunately... it was not giving off "fancy." Visually, everything looked creative and promising. But flavor-wise? I've had more exciting bites out of a Costco shipping box. The food, sadly, was about a 5/10 for us. Not offensive. Not unforgettable. Just... confusingly bland. Like the menu went to art school and the taste buds stayed home. What makes this review hard to write is that the service was so good. Truly. These are good people. Great people, even. The kind of staff that makes you want to say, "No, no, it's not you, it's... whatever happened in that kitchen." And finally, now my buddy and I know why it's called Fancy Pants. Because the next morning? Let's just say the pants were no longer fancy. They were emergency-response pants. They were "cancel the morning plans and stay close to the hotel bathroom" pants. They were "one cowboy, one porcelain rodeo" pants. So in summary: Amazing staff. Cool space. Great vibe. But the steak tasted like cardboard wearing a tuxedo, and the next morning my stomach filed a formal complaint. Would I come back? Maybe for a drink and to hang out with the lovely staff. Would I order the steak again? Absolutely not.

Loved the welcome cocktail at arrival! The place is decorated in a very fun, eclectic way, which definitely matches the name of the place. We decided to get three courses for each of us, and it was plenty of food! We left stuffed. We had to order their cheesecake because it looks iconic, but had to have it to go. We asked if they had any plastic forks for it, and the server came back with a tiny metal spoon and say we could take it. So nice! Will definitely be returning!

Absolutely blown away by this fresh spot ! Everything was phenomenal from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left. Things got started with a complimentary cocktail at the host stand. Our server Max gave us phenomenal recs and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Jaccob recommended some fantastic cocktails and really made the experience one of a kind. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning and feels very approachable while still being fine dining. Such a unique and fun experience!!

Fancypants impressed me, and I have too many good things to say about it. But I will try my best with this review. Fancy Pants was a great choice for my birthday dinner. It's been bookmarked on my "to try" list for a while. It's fine dining, but it doesn't feel stuffy at all. More like a fun East Nashville bar where you can relax and still get food that tastes like someone in the kitchen is showing off. I went with three friends, and we had the chef's steak dinner. It's a porterhouse plus whatever dishes the kitchen wants to send out for $125 a person. I hesitated at the price for a second, but by the end, I was so full I couldn't imagine eating anything else. For what you get, the value is solid. They ended up bringing nine dishes before the steak even came out of the kitchen. The house focaccia (which is free) was everything you want in bread service. The deviled eggs were soaked in soy and had this rich, salty flavor with a yolk that was runny. The chicken was great and came with a sauce I kept dragging bites through. The Hiramasa crudo was clean and bright. I could have eaten a whole plate of the honey squash. And the off-menu mushroom dish was one of my favorites from the entire meal. Service was warm and easy; everyone we talked to had great energy. We sat on the patio, which was heated, and the blanket on the chair was more than enough to keep me comfortable on a late November evening in Nashville. We ended with the birthday cheesecake (of course), which is as festive as you might imagine. Their menu changes with the seasons, which means it's fresh. I look forward to going back and trying new things, plus any old favorites if they stick around. It made for a great birthday dinner, but I'd happily go back on a random weeknight too. Plus, I'm told you can go on Sunday's and everything is al-la carte. So if the higher price point is keeping you away, you can control more of your destiny with that experience.

The SERVICE The FOOD the EXPERIENCE!! every single person on staff was amazing. they each brought courses out and explained in detail each of them. We did the full steak dinner, where they curate your meal for you and it was awesome. The ambience was fancy but also chill and fun! The lights were very pretty and they were playing music that was actually good and not too loud and not too quiet. Once again, I would like to say the service was impeccable.

I love that Fancypants offers fine dining in a non-pretentious environment! My husband and I came here for a date night, and we had the best time. We did the three course tasting menu and were impressed with all of the options. The presentation was so fun and creative, and there were surprises throughout the meal. My husband's cocktail looked delicious, and I really enjoyed my mocktail! We sat at the bar and had wonderful service. The parking lot was full, but we were able to find street parking behind the building.

I'm a bit delayed in posting this, but a few months ago my friends and I had the most incredible experience at Fancypants. I arrived early and had no trouble parking (they offer a 3-hour validation, which made everything easy from the start). Walking in, the vibe immediately stood out as elegant, slightly royal, and eclectic in the best way. We were warmly greeted and handed a cozy brandy drink while we waited for our full party to arrive, which set the tone for the entire evening. From start to finish, the staff made everything feel effortless and relaxed. Once seated, we were served their house focaccia with oil which was simple, but genuinely heavenly. I ordered the "Tuxedo Pants," their take on a dirty martini, and it was unreal, especially with the whipped feta olive. We all opted for the $125 chef's steak dinner (there's also a $78 option), and it turned into one of those meals where you lose track of time because every course is something new and unexpected. We were treated to the most unique goldfish with a dipping sauce (still hard to describe, but unforgettable), and I found myself fully immersed getting to try things for the first time like: sea urchin, surf clams, razor clams, and even a caviar bump!! The finale: a savory vodka pasta and a massive 32oz porterhouse steak with an incredible Korean sauce and fingerling potatoes. We were also celebrating and were treated to a delightful birthday cheesecake, which was the perfect ending. Every single bite was layered, complex, and genuinely pleasurable. Hands down one of the top five dining experiences of my life and I cannot wait to go back.

Fancy Pants in Nashville is truly a vibe. From the moment you walk in, the ambience is absolutely beautiful--stylish, warm, and perfectly set for a fun yet elevated dining experience. The staff is incredibly attentive and welcoming, making sure every detail is taken care of without ever feeling overbearing. The food is where Fancy Pants really shines. Each dish is elevated, creative, and a little eccentric in the best way possible--bold flavors, thoughtful presentation, and clearly made with care. You can tell a lot of intention goes into every plate. Add in great music and an effortlessly good vibe throughout the space, and it's the kind of place you want to linger, enjoy every moment, and already plan your next visit. Fancy Pants is the perfect spot for great food, great energy, and an overall memorable experience.

Mind blown!!! The food is amazing. We did the steak dinner for 2, that comes with about 6 other dishes. The flavors, the combination of ingredients from other parts of the world - wow. Adding pictures to all we ordered, one dish was better than the other. All memorable. We got lucky given that we didn't have a reservation, we were welcomed with a fantastic Homemade punch and Tiernan was our server. He was phenomenal, so knowledgeable of the food, drinks and his recommendations were spot on. The restaurant has lots of Christmas decor, and it made it for a nice and cozy atmosphere. We will def go back next time we visit Nashville.

This place has my heart! From service to food to drinks to ambience, everything was so thought through and they deliver what they are aiming for - a fun, nonchalant yet fine dine experience. The result, we got out smiling from our dinner with our heart and stomach full. The welcome drink, the small surprises in between the courses were not gimmicky but actually helped to enhance the whole experience. Our server was a chef and few what he was saying and the food was delicious - talk about the onion pasta, the pumpkin salad, the green leaf salad, the chicken entree. I want come back here soon!

Upon arrival we were offered punch. I thought that this was such a fun way to greet guests. The cocktails were carefully crafted. The food was presented beautifully and was very tasty. The interior is very sexy with the open kitchen concept and woodfired grill.

Made it to fancypants last night after it had been on the list for awhile. Overall, it was a bit disappointing. We opted for the steak dinner ($125). Firstly, the amount of food is a lot! We left totally stuffed. It felt like it was worth the money for sure. The main issue was that some of the dishes just were just meh. The Good: -The standout was the vodka pasta for sure- very good! -Mushroom dish- awesome The Meh: -The tuna dishes were both okay. The one was strawberry was overkill with strawberry but the tuna was good. -The black cod sauce was great but the cod itself was bland -Steak tartare was fine. The salt and vinegar chips lacked vinegar. I almost would've preferred Lay's crushed up instead -The steak!! A bummer. It may have been a bit our fault because we got it medium rare but it was just meh. I enjoyed my dirty martini and my friend had the espresso martini type cocktail and raved about it! The service was good overall. The steak dinner really was a fun experience and we ended up having 6 dishes plus the steak which was a lot! At the $125 price point, I'd probably not come back. It was an enjoyable experience overall but I wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped!

We got a reservation for Fancypants on a Friday night. When we walked in there were complimentary mini cocktails which was a nice surprise. I want to start out by saying overall this restaurant is fun to try once for the experience. The inside is really nicely put together. I loved the colorscheme and "maximalist" feel. The tables are large and great for groups. We sat right in front of the kitchen and liked watching them cook. We started with the cavier dip which was really good! It was served casually with chips which added the perfect about of crisp and saltiness. The complimentary savory cookies were so good and so fun. On top of that, each table gets complimentary bread- which oculd possibly be some of the best bread. The bottle of wine we ordered was amazing. It was $150 so it better be amazing but it truly was one of the better wines Ive had. I opted out from getting the steak because of the pricing, but honestly watching it go by it looked like it might be worth it. We ended up doing family style. My friend who is (not deadly) allergic to peanuts ordered the salad and asked if they could skip the peanuts. Our waitress told us she could not do that. When my salad came out the peanuts were just on top- not mixed into a dressing or anything- so my question is how could you not just omit the peanuts for someone with an allergy? She didnt miss out too much though, the salad was not very flavor packed. The corn and clam ravioli was interesting. It was sweet from the corn, but savory and seafood-y from the clams. The sauce was a light creamy sauce that didn't add too much but kept it nice and simple. The cold noodle dish was a heftier portion. It was slightly spicy but the sauce didn't stick very well on to the noodles. The sticky short ribs were my favorite of the night. They were flavorful and tender, but a small portion. A fan favorite from the table was the vodka shells. Can't go wrong with this pasta dish. We ordered the cheesecake of course as you see on instragram and in reviews. I personally, thought it was too sweet but the texture was on point. It really does taste like birthday cake cheesecake so if thats your kinda thing you will love it. We had gone to butcher and bee previously and they had given us coupons to use here as a promotion. 3 of us had ocupons at a 5 person table, we were told we could only use one coupon per table. On the coupon it says "one coupon per visit" which I guess we assumed was per a person. I think the experience here is fun if you are prepared to spend a chunk of money. I wasn't blown away by any of the main dishes, if anything the wine and the appetizers were where I enjoyed my dinner the most.

Bluefin Tune Crudo: 8/10 It was really fresh and well prepared, but I've had better elsewhere. I typically prefer bluefin tuna sashimi or nigiri anyway. Tuna Crispy Rice: 9/10 This was such a fun and delicious way to eat spicy tuna! All of the seasonings made it packed full of flavor. Tomahawk Ribeye 9/10: This was insanely tender, and well seasoned. Tip: ask for lemon wedges to sprinkle some lemon juice on it--thank me later. Broccolini 8/10: well prepared, and I loved the lemongrass garlic chili that topped it East Side Shrimp 7/10: These were well cooked and well seasoned. Loved the salad placed underneath it. Wagyu Tartare 8/10: It was well prepared and loved that it's paired with nori and rice. Wished it had a bit more punch to it in terms of seasoning. Crab Fried Rice 8/10: this was delicious but still say it's a solid 8. Beautifully prepared! Korean Hot Wings 2.5/10: I could tell that it was well cooked, but it was insanely salty; it was practically inedible. Hurricane Fries 9/10: These were so delicious! You are immediately hit with the smell of truffle, which made my mouth water. Packed with flavor! Brussels 7/10: These were well roasted, but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. Egyptian born celebrity chef Michael Mina has unquestionably become a restaurant mogul at this stage in his career and winning two Michelin stars in his flagship San Francisco restaurant. Expanding into Nashville, he did something truly extraordinary: creating a modern steakhouse concept that delivers on par to the best traditional steak joints of America, but with unique twists and in a special atmosphere. It's my last night in Nashville so I want to go to a bang zoom restaurant. A few of my co workers have said to me: Mr Bill, we see every night you're going out to some amazing spots. Mind if we tag along? Sure, the rules are to keep your fork outta my plate when we sit down. Deal? The restaurant is very large, we're shown to our table. Set in the middle of the dining room and facing the bar. The bar can seat at least 25 people, the restaurant is set up for fun. To get our party started, I ordered a well crafted cocktail: Tea'd Up Old Fashioned Made with Bourbon, Black Tea and House Barrel Aged Bitters. Funky?? Oh yeah I'm with a bunch of Military Veterans and they're telling me their crazy stories. I'm sippin' my Old Fashioned and taking it all in, we need to bond over drinks and crazy things we all drank overseas. As an adult, I can appreciate my Nashville TN Old Fashioned with Black Tea. While we're talking, our waitress drops off a plate of homemade biscuits. The biscuits are fire! Buttery, flakey and moist, The Southern Steak & Oyster can make a damn good biscuit. Next, my Gumbo comes to me. The first taste I can tell this is a chef'd up dish. Better than anything I had in New Orleans. This gumbo is filled with Andouille, Crawfish, Shrimp and Fried Okra. Very flavorful indeed. My last entree in Nashville will be Fish 'N Grits. Fresh fish topped with Spicy Tasso Ham over Sweet Potato Grits and Bacon Braised Cabbage. This is a flavorful dish, the grits are very creamy and the cook on the fish was spot on. We had a great night at The Southern Steak & Oyster, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Coming in by myself on a weeknight, while in town for business, I sat at the bar and the staff at the bar took great care of me. The piano man on top of the bar was playing great music. The venue is nicely, eclectically decorated too! I started with a Kettle One up with a Twist and it was great... Some of their shrimp cocktail to go with it was a great pairing! The shrimp was huge and prepared perfectly! The cocktail sauce was very nice, but I like extra horseradish, which they happily provided. Next up was their Prime Skirt Steak and the sides I chose was their creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to a perfect temperature and the chimichurri was so very tasty with it! The mashed potatoes were nice. The creamed spinach looked beautiful and the texture was spot-on, but it had slightly too much nutmeg in it - Still, I enjoyed it. I wanted to save room for dessert though because I was yearning for their Butter Pie, which I ordered eventually. The butter pie definitely didn't disappoint! I enjoyed my experience and will continue to seek out and enjoy Jeff Ruby joints when I travel!

Extremely Disappointing Father's Day Experience -- Overpriced, Loud, and Far From "Upscale"…read moreI chose Jeff Ruby's Nashville for Father's Day because I wanted a memorable upscale dinner with my dad. Unfortunately, what should have been a special evening turned into one of the most disappointing steakhouse experiences I've had in years. Our bill for four people was approximately $614, and not a single aspect of the evening justified that price point. First, the noise level was absolutely unbearable. We were seated near the bar area where a pianist was playing so loudly that my father and I could barely have a conversation during dinner. We were literally forced to shout across the table just to hear one another. Even our server struggled to communicate with us and had to move from one side of the table to the other because half the table couldn't hear her speaking. I immediately requested to move tables after being seated and was told they could not accommodate us. Later, I spoke with a manager who simply said he would "make a note for future reservations." No attempt was made to improve the current experience, relocate us, or even lower the music volume. For a restaurant branding itself as luxury dining, the lack of concern was shocking. The atmosphere also failed to match the upscale image Jeff Ruby's promotes. The advertised dress code clearly wasn't being enforced. Several guests in the bar area were dressed extremely casually, which completely took away from the elevated dining environment the restaurant claims to offer. The food itself was mediocre at best. For a supposed high-end steakhouse, the menu selection was surprisingly limited and poorly described. I was honestly stunned there wasn't even a classic French onion soup on the menu. The only soup option contained seafood, which limits many diners due to allergies or preference. Specific disappointments included: Caesar salad was bland and underdressed Wedge salad was average with nothing memorable in flavor or presentation Wagyu meatball had an overpowering smoky flavor not disclosed in the menu description Baked potato on the menu comes with no explanation of toppings or accompaniments Cheesecake texture was whipped and airy rather than rich and dense like a proper steakhouse cheesecake Most importantly, the food quality simply did not match the inflated pricing. I've dined at many nationally recognized steakhouses across the country (Berns in Tampa, Peter Lugar NYC, Keens NYC, Gallahers NYC....and Jeff Ruby's Nashville does not come anywhere close to delivering the quality, refinement, or execution expected at this price level. Honestly, the experience and the meal reminded me more of a casual chain restaurant (Texas Roadhouse) than a premium steakhouse. The décor felt confused and overly theatrical rather than elegant. I understand the attempt at a 1920s-inspired vibe, but details like feathers sitting on chandeliers felt cheap instead of sophisticated. The whole experience to include dinning was too theatrical and felt like it's a cheap experience since the food doesnt live up to the price or quality of a fine steakhouse. What upset me most is that this dinner was supposed to celebrate Father's Day with my dad -- someone I don't get to spend much time with because we live far apart. Instead of enjoying meaningful conversation and a memorable evening together, we spent most of dinner sitting in near silence because the environment was so loud and chaotic. At over $615 for four people, guests should expect and receive exceptional food, attentive management, proper atmosphere control, and an experience that actually feels upscale. Unfortunately, Jeff Ruby's Nashville failed in every one of those categories. The manager offered no attempt at resolving the issues above as I complained about them while we were sitting at the table still. I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

Nashville is a music town, throw a rock and you'll find a great spot at a bar playing music. Some of the bars have a stage where bands are jammin'! I'm looking for something different, something more contemporary, live jazz and a speakeasy feel. Skull's Rainbow Room delivered. Walking up to Printer's Alley, it's already giving off speakeasy vibes. I did my classic move, Get to the restaurant early and tell the waitress I'm so hungry and promise I won't be here all night. Man... I was set up with a great table and was told I have less than two hours. (I mean, I am Bill S from New York, I can be quite persuasive) My waiter comes over, we start talking about the east coast, how he misses New Jersey but loves his new home in Nashville. I order a martini and thick Prime Rib cut along with a side of truffle mashed potatoes. My drink comes out quickly and now I am in the jazz zone. These guys rocked it! Great music along with strong cocktails, I laugh and say to myself: I'm getting paid to be here! My steak comes to the table very quickly. Man this steak cut is a thing of beauty. The au jus with a bite of the truffle mashed potato, heaven. Now the piano player start playing The Love Theme from The Godfather?? Am I in heaven or.. are they trying to seduce me to the other side as I order another cocktail? Just a fantastic night, from the music to the food and libations at Skull's Rainbow Room. My waiter says, it's been two hours, would you like your drink brought to the bar? I declined as I paid my check. Skull's Rainbow Room is a must stop when in Nashville. You can check out any time you want.. but you can never leave!

We had a larger (10) group celebrating two birthdays and the staff handled things without breaking a sweat. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation but it was no bother as our table was still being prepared. On that note: highly recommend a reservation, this is a popular place! Once we were seated we had the pleasure of Nichelle, a wonderful waitress. She was on top of everything we needed or wanted and we had very little wait time for her return. Great service! And the food... DELICIOUS! As you can imagine, our group of ten had a good selection across the menu and there was not a single person who was disappointed. Everyone loved their amazing food. What tops everything off is the atmosphere here. It's popular so, as you can imagine, it's a bit noisy. However, I like to call it "lively". And they really nailed the physical design, so inviting and upscale. I'll stop there and simply say: check this place out, it's great!

She even went out of her way to get me a drink that had fallen off the menu a few weeks prior, a delightful cucumber spritz. The ambiance is awesome. As others have said, music isn't too loud, just pleasant in the background, so it would be ideal for having a conversation. The space is open, bright, light-filled, and stylish. Parking is in a private lot behind the restaurant and they validate parking for up to two and a half hours. I wish I could rave the same way about the food. While the cocktails were refreshing and they had a cocktail for every palate, my steak and eggs was bland. It came out a little closer to rare than medium, but I can live with that. But I am not sure I detected a speck of salt or pepper. The steak was at least tender and the sunny side up eggs were cooked appropriately. The potatoes were dry. And I did have the wagyu meatball appetizer. It's a large portion, so easily shared amongst two or three people. Cheesy and saucy with a little spice. The focaccia could've been toasted a little more. I considered the short rib hash, but my server told me it could be salty and hit or miss (I appreciate her honesty and she 100 percent should be praised for it). I came during brunch (even on a weekday). They also serve French toast, desserts, oysters, burrata, potstickers and tuna tartare, salads, burgers and other sandwiches. If you come for lunch or dinner, you can also get grilled salmon, blackened redfish, shrimp and grits, pastas (cajun chicken, pappardelle bolognese, tortellini) as well as various cuts of steak. It's conveniently located right across from the Frist Museum and is part of the Union Station Hotel. I would try this place again for dinner, but would skip the brunch. And again, Savanna was top tier! She deserves all the flowers!
