Fancypants blew me away. I don't say that often. I do give a lot of five star reviews because I adjust for expectations and situation, but Fancypants is so amazing I would rate it 10/5 if I could. The vibe is immaculate. Red velvet, gold streamers, a fancy chinatown vibe. You get a welcome cocktail for free, just for walking in the door. We sat on the patio, though a number of seating options are available. The patio was warm and breezy, lit with Christmas lights, and well separated from the street (though every now and then obnoxious street hotrods might make some noise). We started with the jammy ramen egg. And it's exactly as described. Jammy, not too runny, rich, savory, and a little spicy. Six bucks. After that, things start to get a little more pricey, but it's worth every penny. We also tried the ruffell's potato chips, sour cream, and caviar. I'm not even a caviar person, but I ordered it because where else am I gonna get the chance to try this combo?! It was salty and tangy and such an unexpected tastebud explosion. You can tell someone put a lot of thought into this menu. We shared an entree, the "roasted nubby farms chicken." My friend wanted this dish, so I acquiesced. I normally find chicken boring. But this dish was made with peach mostarda, mustard jus, spring onion mousseline . . . and the staff painstakingly explained each dish to us, but our senses were overwhelmed . . . but they served two different parts of the chicken and one was like this crazy almost bacon like flavor bomb and the other was this sexy, silky, moist, tantalizing wing and breast. I took more photos of my meal, but I was so excited that they were mostly blurry, so what you see is what you get, and you have to rely on my raving review. There are so many dishes I'm interested in here . . . including their BBQ mushroom, their vodka shells, the roasted cauliflower, Italian sausage. If we had been more hungry (we'd had a big day with small appetites), we would have gone for the chef's special or chef's big night out, where the kitchen chooses for you. They also had a giant steak available. The fun thing about this place is that it's kinda mysterious. The only menu you can find online are photos of menus, like mine, and it seems to change all the time. I don't know what you'd call this place aside from "fusion." Fusion of what? I have no idea. Japanese? American? Something else? NO IDEA. But it's amazing. For drinks, they have an interesting cocktail menu, but I am privileged enough that I could try their "roulette whiskey" game, where they bring a roulette wheel to the table and you might end up with a standard whiskey/bourbon or something that's usually 160 dollars a glass, like a rare Pappy Van Winkle. The game is truly random and fair and not fixed at all. And I broke even essentially, though honestly, the cheaper bourbon tasted better to me. The bartender brought it out personally, with the bottle, and explained what it was, the flavor profile, and why he made the particular cocktail he made (I requested a cocktail, you can also have it straight or on the rocks). The service is unmatched. I've been to a lot of Michelin star restaurants, and this service just . . . floored me. Every single person made it their mission to make sure this was the best dining experience I ever had. In addition to perfect dinner service, I asked where the bathroom was, in the back of the restaurant mind you, and the person led me all the way to the bathroom personally. Even though, "take a right and it's right next to the front door" would have easily done the job. These people have PRIDE in their work. The food is phenomenal. Had a really fun dinner at Fancypants. Hospitality was stellar- you are offered a welcome cocktail/mocktail as soon as you enter. It's definitely has a scenester vibe but not in an off-putting way. The restaurant is smaller inside than it looks from outside making it feel intimate and cozy which is part of the appeal. The decor is whimsical and colorful. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Most of our group opted for the Chef Tasting menu as we wanted to try a lot of dishes. Standouts to me were the amuse bouche, a carrot mochi tart, the jammy egg, the tuna shiso bite, the vodka sauce macaroni and cheese and the steak course. There were a lot of other courses that had interesting flavors/textures but not exactly my taste. All of the plating was beautiful. I personally think that for some of the mid-service courses, the portion size could be reduced. It was tough to make it through to the steak course due to the size of some of the portions. The steak course is generous and served with a broccolini that evening. Also, a dessert course could definitely have replaced one of the middle courses. This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time, especially considering the price point. To give credit where it's due, the staff and service were attentive and consistently on point throughout the night. The atmosphere was fun, vibrant, and clearly designed to create an exciting dining experience. The cocktails were genuinely good and ended up being the best part of the meal. The beef tartare was also solid. Unfortunately, everything after that fell apart. They started us with a ramen-style jammy egg split between two people, which already felt ridiculous for a restaurant positioning itself as fine dining. Even worse, the egg itself was almost completely void of flavor, like it had barely spent any time marinating. We ordered the steak medium rare and received it rare. That honestly would have been fine if the overall execution had been there, but it wasn't. The cut itself was decent, but the preparation and balance of the dish felt off. The sauce served alongside it sadly did nothing to elevate the meat and ended up feeling flat and forgettable. The asparagus was undercooked, the yellow beans barely seemed cooked at all, and while the broccolini was mostly done, that was about the only positive among the sides. The pasta shells were still filled with pasta water, which made the dish feel rushed and poorly executed. Nearly everything lacked flavor, seasoning, or any real attention to detail. The plating was visually pretty in most cases, though at one point I was genuinely concerned the frozen ice bowl may have been reused because of visible pink staining along the side. In the end, the entire experience felt more focused on aesthetics and photos than on taste or execution. The food itself came across as pale and dull, almost like the restaurant lost sight of the fact that the point of a restaurant is ultimately the food. I left feeling full but somehow still hungry because nothing was actually satisfying to eat. For a meal that ended up being around $400 for two people, this felt nowhere near worth it. This was an interesting experience at team dinner. 1. The service was AMAZING. They let me charge my phone and took my jacket and suitcase and all that and were so incredibly sweet about it. 2. My buddy and I were in Nashville doing what two grown men on a trip are supposed to do: make questionable decisions with confidence and eat somewhere with a name like Fancy Pants. And let me say this first: the people here are absolute stars. The host, waitress, and staff were all incredibly kind, warm, attentive, and genuinely cared. Top-tier hospitality. The kind of team that makes you want to succeed on their behalf. If Yelp had a category for emotional intelligence, these folks are running a solid 10/10. Now, the restaurant itself? Super cool space. Very stylish, very theatrical, very "someone here definitely owns velvet." It has that playful, moody, creative East Nashville energy where you walk in and immediately think, "Ohhh, this place has a personality." And it does. A lot of it. Then the food arrived. Fancypants impressed me, and I have too many good things to say about it. But I will try my best with this review. Fancy Pants was a great choice for my birthday dinner. It's been bookmarked on my "to try" list for a while. It's fine dining, but it doesn't feel stuffy at all. More like a fun East Nashville bar where you can relax and still get food that tastes like someone in the kitchen is showing off. I went with three friends, and we had the chef's steak dinner. It's a porterhouse plus whatever dishes the kitchen wants to send out for $125 a person. I hesitated at the price for a second, but by the end, I was so full I couldn't imagine eating anything else. For what you get, the value is solid. They ended up bringing nine dishes before the steak even came out of the kitchen. The house focaccia (which is free) was everything you want in bread service. The deviled eggs were soaked in soy and had this rich, salty flavor with a yolk that was runny. The chicken was great and came with a sauce I kept dragging bites through. The Hiramasa crudo was clean and bright. I could have eaten a whole plate of the honey squash. And the off-menu mushroom dish was one of my favorites from the entire meal. Service was warm and easy; everyone we talked to had great energy. We sat on the patio, which was heated, and the blanket on the chair was more than enough to keep me comfortable on a late November evening in Nashville. We ended with the birthday cheesecake (of course), which is as festive as you might imagine. Their menu changes with the seasons, which means it's fresh. I arrived early and had no trouble parking (they offer a 3-hour validation, which made everything easy from the start). Walking in, the vibe immediately stood out as elegant, slightly royal, and eclectic in the best way. We were warmly greeted and handed a cozy brandy drink while we waited for our full party to arrive, which set the tone for the entire evening. I ordered the "Tuxedo Pants," their take on a dirty martini, and it was unreal, especially with the whipped feta olive. We all opted for the $125 chef's steak dinner (there's also a $78 option), and it turned into one of those meals where you lose track of time because every course is something new and unexpected. We were treated to the most unique goldfish with a dipping sauce (still hard to describe, but unforgettable), and I found myself fully immersed getting to try things for the first time like: sea urchin, surf clams, razor clams, and even a caviar bump!! Made it to fancypants last night after it had been on the list for awhile. Overall, it was a bit disappointing. We opted for the steak dinner ($125). Firstly, the amount of food is a lot! We left totally stuffed. It felt like it was worth the money for sure. The main issue was that some of the dishes just were just meh. The Good: -The standout was the vodka pasta for sure- very good! -Mushroom dish- awesome The Meh: -The tuna dishes were both okay. The one was strawberry was overkill with strawberry but the tuna was good. -The black cod sauce was great but the cod itself was bland -Steak tartare was fine. The salt and vinegar chips lacked vinegar. I almost would've preferred Lay's crushed up instead -The steak!! A bummer. It may have been a bit our fault because we got it medium rare but it was just meh. I enjoyed my dirty martini and my friend had the espresso martini type cocktail and raved about it! We got a reservation for Fancypants on a Friday night. When we walked in there were complimentary mini cocktails which was a nice surprise. I want to start out by saying overall this restaurant is fun to try once for the experience. The inside is really nicely put together. I loved the colorscheme and "maximalist" feel. The tables are large and great for groups. We sat right in front of the kitchen and liked watching them cook. We started with the cavier dip which was really good! It was served casually with chips which added the perfect about of crisp and saltiness. The complimentary savory cookies were so good and so fun. On top of that, each table gets complimentary bread- which oculd possibly be some of the best bread. The bottle of wine we ordered was amazing. It was $150 so it better be amazing but it truly was one of the better wines Ive had. I opted out from getting the steak because of the pricing, but honestly watching it go by it looked like it might be worth it. We ended up doing family style. My friend who is (not deadly) allergic to peanuts ordered the salad and asked if they could skip the peanuts. Our waitress told us she could not do that. When my salad came out the peanuts were just on top- not mixed into a dressing or anything- so my question is how could you not just omit the peanuts for someone with an allergy? She didnt miss out too much though, the salad was not very flavor packed. The corn and clam ravioli was interesting. It was sweet from the corn, but savory and seafood-y from the clams. The sauce was a light creamy sauce that didn't add too much but kept it nice and simple. The cold noodle dish was a heftier portion. It was slightly spicy but the sauce didn't stick very well on to the noodles. The sticky short ribs were my favorite of the night. They were flavorful and tender, but a small portion. A fan favorite from the table was the vodka shells. Can't go wrong with this pasta dish. We ordered the cheesecake of course as you see on instragram and in reviews. I personally, thought it was too sweet but the texture was on point. It really does taste like birthday cake cheesecake so if thats your kinda thing you will love it. We had gone to butcher and bee previously and they had given us coupons to use here as a promotion. 3 of us had ocupons at a 5 person table, we were told we could only use one coupon per table. On the coupon it says "one coupon per visit" which I guess we assumed was per a person. I think the experience here is fun if you are prepared to spend a chunk of money. We went to Fancypants to celebrate my husbands new certification at work and quickly found a new favorite spot in Nashville. From the moment we walked in, the service was spectacular. The hostess was fun and inviting and our waiter was top notch. Not only did he check in on us frequently, he was also our bartender and was up to creating any drink we asked for, even ones not on the menu. Plus, the holiday decorations were still up and the room felt like I was in Candyland, it was so festive and cute. As a vegetarian, this place was a dream. Many options to chose from and all absolutely mouthwatering. We both asked our waiter to curate our three plates, giving our likes and dietary restrictions and the kitchen delivered. Not only was the food amazing, there was a lot of it. Many restaurants with a hefty price tag will leave you wanting, but not fancypants. We left absolutely stuffed and satisfied. Celebrated Nandy's birthday here (part one of his celebratory dinners) and they indeed know how to make it special. I lost count of the number of people who wished him a happy birthday. Our seating was perfect where we got to see the open fire cooking. And they of course brought the dessert lit in candle, and also gave a card signed by all staff! The food was delicious, it's a rotating menu. Nandy loved every single one of the 6 items we ordered in their set menu. Their cocktails were amazing. My sister and I had been wanting to try Fancypants the last couple of years and finally made it there. When we arrived, we were kindly greeted by the hosts. It had been pouring rain, so they gave us towels to dry off and rum punch to warm up! So far, so good. We were seated and our server seemed delightful. Food came about before the cocktails did. The cocktails and service were the best part of the experience. My table ordered the Cauliflower, Onion Dip (with and without caviar), Egg Yolk appetizer (can't remember the name), Onion Noodle Cacio e Pepe, and Buddah Noodles (the vodka sauce). My sister enjoyed the Onion Dip with caviar. It was a hefty portion of caviar after all. The rest of the dishes were wah wah wah.... The best thing was the Buddah Noodles (which is probably why they seem to constantly be on the menu), but even then... the dish isn't anything we would eat again. We love onions and couldn't eat more than one bite of the Onion Noodles. Some of the food just didn't seem to go together. Full disclaimer, if I knew that it was also owned by the same folks that own Butcher and Bee, I would have passed. (Story for a different review). The staff was amazing, a total 10/10. The welcome drink was nice, and the ambiance was the best part. Great music, friendly staff, cool vibes. That's kind of where the positives end. The food was so incredibly disappointing. The one dish that I enjoyed (besides the bread) was the broccolini that came with the steak and the fingerling potatoes. Unfortunately every item that we had was just mid. And the price for what we received was pretty hefty. We knew going into it that it would be expensive and were ok with it, but it stinks to pay so much money do food that no one in our party enjoyed. Foodie Alert!! I recently had the opportunity to dine at Fancy Pants on a Sunday evening, and it was an incredible experience! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was stunning. I was greeted with a complimentary drink, and once seated, I was served warm bread with sea salt and pepper-infused dipping olive oil--such a flavor combination I didn't know I needed! For drinks I ordered the Cargo Shorts.... Berry yumm! The appetizers were delicious. We ordered the jammy deviled eggs and steak tartare, and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, they brought out a palate-cleansing cocktail before the main course. Talk about thoughtful! The staff pays attention to every little detail. For my meal, I had the option to choose three entrees from Prix Fiex core menu. I selected the tea leaf Caesar salad, poached Alaskan halibut, and garlic noodles. The passionfruit gummies served before dessert were the cherry on top. For dessert we has the Thai Tea Tiramisu. I would give 3.5 stars for the food BUT the service does bring it up to 4. The concept of this place is kinda fun yet a bit pretentious. I was excited for the idea, regardless. The inside of this place is a bit nuts. It's all red and has funky decorations. On our way in, we were greeted with a complimentary cocktail, which was sweet and lovely. At our table, we also got a complimentary snack of giant home-made flaky goldfish (fun!). We also got a focaccia bread course, though I didn't love it because the focaccia had a much too dense crumb and a burnt crust. Others did enjoy, however. You can do the tasting menu for $75 and try 3 different things. I did that with my boyfriend and we ended up trying 6 things. You can also get things a-la carte, which we did as well. TLDR: Super unique and fun dishes, with interesting pairings and plating concepts. The execution, however, was subpar. Here were my thoughts (briefly): -Foie Gras Terrine with Pandan Waffles: 8/10 - LOVED the foie gras (I nearly always do, and the pandan waffles were pretty fun. They smelled like funnel cake and were bright green inside. -Japanese Sweet Potatoes: 2/10 - Some liked this dish, but I thought it was trying too hard. The truffle labneh would've been good on its own, but one of the sweeter sauces on the dish was overpowering. -Onion Noodle Cacio e Pepe: 10/10 - Exquisite idea. The sauce is SUPER rich and peppery, so using poached onion as the "noodle" is a great way to lighten this dish up. Loved it. -Sweet Potato Casarecce: 9/10 - The sweet potato noodles had a lovely texture and the sauce was inspired by asian flavors. Delicious. -Vodka Shells: 3/10 - Almost no flavor to this. Tasted like some weird take on Kraft Mac n cheese. -Roasted Chicken: 7.5/10 - I liked the duck mousse and the presentation of the dish. The truffle aioli was good as well, but I thought the carrot and spinach purees were a bit off-putting. -Duck: 5/10 - Duck should be moist and fatty, in my opinion. This one was cooked-through, drier, and a bit tough. The skin was well seasoned, though. It also came with a sausage that was a dry and tasted like biting into a stick of nutmeg. Not my thing. The squash was tender and sweet. I loved that I could taste the slight char from the grill. The shrimp cake was delicious but not overly seafoody. It paired really well with the cabbage that was under it. I also was given the cacio e pepe. The "noodles" aren't pasta but sweet onion. I promise it's better than it sounds but I did miss the firm bite of pasta. The sauce was perfection. I ended up stealing some of my husband's pasta to mix with the onion. The beef with fried ramen was great. Who knew putting ramen on a short rib would be so good? It was a great experience and a really good anniversary! This place is great for groups of 4 or less. This place is such a fun concept. It's a tasting menu, which is easy to share with one or more of you all choose different things. There are little surprises throughout the meal. This is one of two good experiences I have had in Nashville recently and one that has been on my list for quite some time. If I have to give a short answer, it is a definite must try. The restaurant is another creation of Brian Weaver (Butcher & Bee, Redheaded Stranger). Like his previous concepts, this one is themed with an upscale 70s kind of vibe. The atmosphere adds to the experience. Make sure to trek to the restrooms while you are there for the full experience. As an experience, I would put this on a should try at least once. As you enter, you are greeted with an appertif of sorts and then taken through a curtain to the main dining area. Seating is either at tables, at the bar, or on the covered veranda outside. Service? Phenomenal. Very attentive and on top of everything. As they share running food duties, the food arrives hot even if your server is busy with another table. As the spot is a bit more segmented, it is nice how well it works. How about the food? Everything was good, but there are definitely some standouts. The steak was the star of the show, but it is a bit different than Porterhouses I have had at other places. More marinated than seasoned or dry rubbed. Done to a perfect medium rare and a nice cut of beef, but just a bit different than I was expecting. I would say 8 out of 10 on this one. The fingerlings served with the steak were excellent and one of the top dishes. I also appreciated the bok choy, although to a lesser degree. The tea leaf caesar was interesting, but did not really stand out. The noodles had a decent amount of garlic and a nice flavor, but didn't really knock my socks off. My favorites of the early dishes were the bread, maitake mushroom, and the bucatini. The cocktails were very good and a nice start to the meal. Priced comparably to downtown, so no complaints. None really knocked my socks off and I wish I had remembered to ask about an expresso martini, as a friend mentioned they had a great one. The confusing part, for me, is what FancyPants is trying to be. You have a more 70s vibe, with a big a** steak, but the menu pulls in a large number of different Asian styles, from Chinese to Korea to Japan. The big question is always this: Would I return? Last Friday my husband and I had the chance to come to FP for our third visit and could not have had a more lovely or delicious evening. We were very excited to try the new summer/seasonal menu having heard there were some new additions alongside classic favorites and let me tell you - it did not disappoint! The bartenders made a great mezcal sour for my husband and I tried the pink tutu which was delicious and exactly what I was looking for in a refreshing first drink. We loved the little mochi muffins that came out in the cutest basket and had a great texture, a very nice way to start the meal. The pull apart bread and deviled eggs are always great but some of my new favorites included the Lamburger Helper pasta dish (extremely unique and balanced) and the chef's special which was a beautifully composed pork chop dish. The steak tartar with extremely thin chips was also good. The other (completely unexpected) star of the show was the roast mushroom! At this stage of the meal we still had a couple dishes coming and I'm not normally a mushroom person so I was worried about getting full, but I absolutely had to try this and was completely blown away. Even if you don't normally like mushrooms I would highly recommend this complex, tender and wholesome tasting dish. The presentation was also very cute, served on an adorable toadstool (mushroom) plate. To finish it off we did a seasonal dessert which was chamomile ice cream, fresh blueberries and thin wedges/slices of pavlova - so unusual and a perfect/delicate end to a deeply satisfying meal. The vibes were excellent and the staff couldn't have been kinder or taken better care of us. From making us feel beyond welcome and just generally being gracious and lovely, we received great wine recommendations and were guided through the menu perfectly. It is clear that the entire staff of FancyPants (from management and the chef/kitchen staff to servers and bartenders) are all extremely dedicated to making each guest's experience a special one. When combined with the attention to detail at every stage - from the welcome cocktail when coming in, to the chef's inventive recipes and presentation of the dishes and overall fun touches, FP is an unmissable restaurant for locals and out of towners alike. We are really grateful to have FP in our neighborhood and love that they have recently started a la carte service which will make it easier for us (and likely others) to come by more frequently. The food itself was fantastic and the service was just as good! We ended up just sitting at the bar top. The restaurant also has booths as well as an outside terrace for seating. Walked in without reservations on Sunday. Was offered a complimentary cocktail which had lychee and was sold after hearing that. Sat at the bar at the far end which was nice and secluded. Nice service and even found an awesome Habanero hot sauce for me. Deviled eggs were loaded with toppings and we're okay. I enjoyed the olive oil that came with the complimentary bread. I temporarily removed my initial review after the owner told me to "get a life" and directed his social media followers to harass me, but l am reposting this because potential diners deserve full transparency about how management treats paying customers. The Experience: We visited for Valentine's Day with a party of six. The total bill was over $1,000. Despite the price point, the restaurant forced our table to share poor quality steaks, the meat completely lacked a proper sear or crust, and the service was severely under-resourced for a fine dining establishment. The Unprofessional Conduct: When I originally posted my honest feedback about the food, the owner replied telling me to "get a life." He then took to the restaurant's public Instagram to complain about our table, while hypocritically stating that we should have brought our issues to management "privately." You cannot publicly blast your customers on social media while demanding private feedback. I am posting this as a clear warning. If you spend your money here and the kitchen underdelivers, management will not take accountability; they will personally insult you and attempt to intimidate you online. We tried Fancypants for the first time and were really impressed as soon as we walked in to the hostess stand. She had a welcome drink ready with two choices of drink. She escorts us to our table and our server immediately approaches the table and explains our options on how to order. In the past, I think you had to do the Chef's dinner ($125/person) but now it's all à la carte. We opted for the Chef's dinner in order to try as many plates as possible. The food seemed to just keep coming. Every dish was outstanding. They seemed to keep throwing a few extras with the Chef's dinner. Now that we tried the Chef's dinner, will look forward to coming back and trying the à la carte approach. I can't say enough about the service and how impressed by the food offerings. Yes, if you go with the Chef's dinner option, you are in for an expensive meal but it's worth it. Otherwise, go à la carte and pick your dishes. A total 5 star experience in a totally casual setting. Fancypants is nothing short of fancy. When you arrive you receive a free cocktail from the nicest host EVER. I think it's usually champagne but for the holidays they're serving up mulled wine. My friend and I arrived early for our reservation and they found a way to seat us before it at the bar. We were content with waiting but the fact that they even thought about moving us show their level of efficiency and customer service. They sat us at the bar near the kitchen and had the best meal from that moment on.(side note: I love a bar stool with a back and foot rest - the comfiest seating!!) Since we were so flexible with our reservation, the hostess brought over free champagne much to our surprise! Ok ok, let me get to the food... Fancypants is a prix fixe menu where you can either pick 3 dishes for $70 a person or their steak dinner where you split a big boi piece of steak and 2 dishes each for $105. On Sundays they have the menu open for a la Carte so keep that in mind! My friend and I went with the original dinner (which includes no meat FYI!) and each got 3 different dishes so we could split 6! I don't remember everything we got but my standouts are the spicy carrot rigatoni with chili oil on the side, Japanese sweet potatoes, and Napa cabbage. We were served by bartender Samir and what a gem he was! For such a busy night he was engaging and even made my friend a custom cocktail. If you sit at the bar, ask for Samir! He's wonderful. For drink, I went with their old fashioned. I don't think I'd order this again due to how far it starts from the original cocktail, but if you're thinking of dipping your toes in the old fashioned world, this would be a great one to start with! I then had the "plaid pajamas", an apple focused seasonal cocktail. We wrapped up the evening with a slice of the birthday cake cheesecake and dare I say it's the best cheesecake I've had in a looooooong while. If you're thinking it'll be too sweet, they somehow balance the funfetti and classic richness of a cheesecake. I'd go back for another slice alone... as a matter of fact, I might do that on a Sunday While the price is steep, the service and food you receive make it worth every single penny. Been to fancypants a few times now and it has never disappointed! The menu is very unique and well thought out. Each item has a little twist that is hard to predict! Fun treats/snacks between your courses, including various small drinks/cocktails as part of the 3 course experience. All the dishes have extremely high execution and have unique but familiar components that add a really cool eating experience. The space and food have matching whimsy factors! Our server last night was Emily who was extremely knowledgeable and a huge brand ambassador. She also was fun to talk with and you can just tell she enjoys life! Will be back! read more

3.5/5 overall, but outstanding 5/5 service! Made a last minute reservation because I was in the mood to try something new. Butcher & Bee is one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville, something I always recommend to out-of-towners, so I was excited to try this (also excited that the menu was vegetarian-forward.) Even at peak dinner time on a Saturday night, I very easily found parking in the dedicated lot. I came a bit early, but they were happy to seat me early and greeted me with a lovely Asian-inspired lychee welcome drink. The restaurant is decorated in a fun, unserious festive and felt celebratory. The bar seats are incredibly comfortable and very spacious, with great, attentive service from the two bartenders on staff, so don't worry about feeling like you're missing out if this is where you are seated. I opted for the set $75 menu. I primarily came here excited to try the new seasonal dish featuring white asparagus, one of my all time favorite ingredients when in season. I also got the chewy rice cake dish, the Buddha's hand vodka pasta, and added on a bonus of the crudo. The asparagus and crudo bites were my favorite - light, balanced flavor, really interesting sauce component that I wanted to lick right up. I was disappointed that the asparagus came with just 3 stalks and two were green. It's also a little early for white asparagus season so I'm really curious where they are sourcing from, but it did taste perfectly done. The chewy rice cakes and Buddha's hand vodka pasta were fine, but kind of forgettable. Also why they call the dish chewy rice noodles and not chewy rice cakes is very confusing to anyone familiar with Asian cooking. Both of these latter dishes plus the bread were a bit on the salty side. Decent wine menu but it was a bit strange to me that the bartenders had to go somewhere else to get me my drink if I ordered wine vs a cocktail. The concept of the menu is also bit confusing to me - is it Asian influenced? French? Italian? I'm a fan of interesting fusion but the flavors seemed a bit all over the place and the meal didn't feel coherent. I loved the small extra touches throughout the meal - the drink, the palate cleanser, and the homemade gumdrop at the end of the meal, but would have easily done without for an overall cheaper meal. My total ($200 including tip) for 1 person with 3 drinks and 1 add on was far more than what I'd pay for a comparable amount of food at comparable restaurants elsewhere in Nashville and with no dish being particularly standout (I had two favorite dishes, but neither were standout), I'm not certain how frequently I'd want to come back. We're big fans of RHS and Butcher & Bee, so we were stoked to check out their group's newest restaurant venture on Dickerson Pike. We made reservations for a Friday night via Resy a couple of weeks in advance (when they announced on social media that reservations were finally open)! Heads-up that you do need to put a card down when you make your reservation, and you will be charged $25/person if you cancel your reservation less than 48 hours in advance. This practice is popping up more and more at high-end restaurants like Fancypants, and while I understand why they do it, it does feel a bit steep for East Nashville. The parking lot was full when we arrived - so we snagged a spot in the alley around back. We were greeted at the host stand with a delicious and colorful welcome cocktail called the "Booze Amuse." We were seated near the bar, and were delighted to see a packed restaurant on only their second weekend open! The building itself used to be an old grocery store, but the team has done a beautiful job of renovating the space. It's maroon and moody, with eclectic decor that you can tell has been carefully curated. We didn't get a chance to check out the patio this time around, but I love the bright green criss-cross pattern you can spot from the road. You won't find the menu on their website - but instead a cheeky question asking "Where's the fun in that?" While I do like the air of mystery this introduces, I do wish they let guests know ahead of time that that their core prix-fixe menu is entirely vegetarian. Don't get me wrong, I love how creative plant-based food can be, but it feels a bit misleading to not let guests know up front. The "Bonus Menu" did feature Steak Tartare, so there was at least one protein if you were really in the mood for meat. As you do dig into the menu, you may not miss meat as much as you thought you would. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious - my favorite was the Grilled Lion's Mane Mushroom, which is reminiscent of a juicy steak and sits on top of creamy mashed potatoes. The Etrog Vodka Shells are also a can't-miss dish - perfectly saucy and just a little spicy. We also sampled a couple of their drinks. I appreciate the theming (all of the cocktails are named after different types of pants) and would recommend the Yoga Pants to anyone looking for a fresh and fruity mocktail. The service was very attentive - not only our waitress, but several other members of the team checked in on us periodically throughout our meal. We were also brought a few impromptu palette cleansers, including their version of Pani Puri and a tangy celery juice. We didn't stick around for dessert this time around, but noted it for next time! Although we enjoyed our meal and commend the team for creating something unique, it did feel a bit pricey. Fun dining experience & very unique menu! We had reservations for the 2nd weekend of opening on a Saturday night & were greeted with welcome cocktails at the hostess stand. For what it's worth, my wife & I aren't vegetarians but know that this is a heavy vegetarian menu with a lot of gluten-free options. It is a 3 course pre-fixe menu for $70 pp with the only meat item as of now, the steak tartare. Menu subject to change. You can order additional items a la carte from the bonus/appetizer & dessert menus. Drink menus have a lot of variety! I ordered the grilled lion's mane mushroom, the stuffed poblano chile pepper, & the miso butter Malfadine. My wife ordered the grilled heirloom eggplant, Etrog vodka shells, & the chicken fried cauliflower. We shared the steak tartare for appetizer, & a fruit tart with coffee for dessert. We also got some complimentary items! Panipurri, celery soda palette cleanser(?), & strawberry jelly bites with peanut butter dusting. Anytime I have vegetarian dishes, I'm worried the food will be bland, under-seasoned, & that I'll be leaving hungry. However, I was pleasantly surprised how intricate the flavors were & how full we were by the end of the meal. Service was fantastic, very attentive & new silverware & plates for each course. Ambience was casual upscale with music in the background, but not too loud. Overall, highly recommend if you are looking to try something new for a nice night out. Off to a great start! We had an early reservation on opening night, and service was smooth and confident -- clearly this team is skilled and did a great job during their previews to "wow" right away. The name is a bit cheeky, in that you could certainly come here for a special occasion, but it's irreverent and fun. The interior is lush but comfortable. Food! What a fun mix of dishes. The welcome cocktail and bread service got us started on a high note. Our favorite dishes were the avocado + banana (I think there's a good chance this becomes the signature dish, like a fun twist on sister restaurant Butcher & Bee's avocado crispy rice), the mozzarella katsu (the best fried cheese I've ever had), and the miso malfadine (umami goodness). It's a meat-light main menu, so this is a great option for groups with vegetarians in the mix. We omnivores didn't miss the meat at all. We were too stuffed for dessert, but the choices our table-neighbors ordered looked delicious and like a nostalgic reminder of old-school supper clubs. We'll definitely be back! read more

I've lived in Nashville for over 20 years and it's one of my favorite things to do to try the new restaurants that open here. A lot of the new ones are good but nothing too memorable. But Fancypants was one of my favorite food experiences I've had in a long time! And it's definitely a unique, special new restaurant that is 100% worth the hype. From the second you walk in, the service is outstanding. The little cocktail they serve you in the front while you're waiting for your table was such a nice touch. And it was so good I ordered another with dinner. Our server and all the service was incredible. The restaurant itself is fun and beautiful, but in a way that they don't take themselves too seriously. But the food! The food they take seriously! It's a prix fixe menu where you still get to make a lot of choices and the option to add a la carte dishes. My friend and I did a "caviar bump" off our hands- such a fun experience! Yolo! One of my favorite dishes was the halibut. I am still dreaming about it! And the tiramisu comes deconstructed- you put it together yourself and I seriously loved it. As someone who loves good customer service, a beautiful and unique space and good food - Fancypants hits all three! Loved that it was so fun but the food was still top notch.
