Fun dining experience & very unique menu! We had reservations for the 2nd weekend of opening on a Saturday night & were greeted with welcome cocktails at the hostess stand. For what it's worth, my wife & I aren't vegetarians but know that this is a heavy vegetarian menu with a lot of gluten-free options. It is a 3 course pre-fixe menu for $70 pp with the only meat item as of now, the steak tartare. Menu subject to change. You can order additional items a la carte from the bonus/appetizer & dessert menus. Drink menus have a lot of variety! I ordered the grilled lion's mane mushroom, the stuffed poblano chile pepper, & the miso butter Malfadine. My wife ordered the grilled heirloom eggplant, Etrog vodka shells, & the chicken fried cauliflower. We shared the steak tartare for appetizer, & a fruit tart with coffee for dessert. We also got some complimentary items! Panipurri, celery soda palette cleanser(?), & strawberry jelly bites with peanut butter dusting. Anytime I have vegetarian dishes, I'm worried the food will be bland, under-seasoned, & that I'll be leaving hungry. However, I was pleasantly surprised how intricate the flavors were & how full we were by the end of the meal. Service was fantastic, very attentive & new silverware & plates for each course. Ambience was casual upscale with music in the background, but not too loud. Overall, highly recommend if you are looking to try something new for a nice night out. Off to a great start! We had an early reservation on opening night, and service was smooth and confident -- clearly this team is skilled and did a great job during their previews to "wow" right away. The name is a bit cheeky, in that you could certainly come here for a special occasion, but it's irreverent and fun. The interior is lush but comfortable. Food! What a fun mix of dishes. The welcome cocktail and bread service got us started on a high note. Our favorite dishes were the avocado + banana (I think there's a good chance this becomes the signature dish, like a fun twist on sister restaurant Butcher & Bee's avocado crispy rice), the mozzarella katsu (the best fried cheese I've ever had), and the miso malfadine (umami goodness). It's a meat-light main menu, so this is a great option for groups with vegetarians in the mix. We omnivores didn't miss the meat at all. We were too stuffed for dessert, but the choices our table-neighbors ordered looked delicious and like a nostalgic reminder of old-school supper clubs. We'll definitely be back! read more

Last Friday my husband and I had the chance to come to FP for our third visit and could not have had a more lovely or delicious evening. We were very excited to try the new summer/seasonal menu having heard there were some new additions alongside classic favorites and let me tell you - it did not disappoint! The bartenders made a great mezcal sour for my husband and I tried the pink tutu which was delicious and exactly what I was looking for in a refreshing first drink. We loved the little mochi muffins that came out in the cutest basket and had a great texture, a very nice way to start the meal. The pull apart bread and deviled eggs are always great but some of my new favorites included the Lamburger Helper pasta dish (extremely unique and balanced) and the chef's special which was a beautifully composed pork chop dish. The steak tartar with extremely thin chips was also good. The other (completely unexpected) star of the show was the roast mushroom! At this stage of the meal we still had a couple dishes coming and I'm not normally a mushroom person so I was worried about getting full, but I absolutely had to try this and was completely blown away. Even if you don't normally like mushrooms I would highly recommend this complex, tender and wholesome tasting dish. The presentation was also very cute, served on an adorable toadstool (mushroom) plate. To finish it off we did a seasonal dessert which was chamomile ice cream, fresh blueberries and thin wedges/slices of pavlova - so unusual and a perfect/delicate end to a deeply satisfying meal. The vibes were excellent and the staff couldn't have been kinder or taken better care of us. From making us feel beyond welcome and just generally being gracious and lovely, we received great wine recommendations and were guided through the menu perfectly. It is clear that the entire staff of FancyPants (from management and the chef/kitchen staff to servers and bartenders) are all extremely dedicated to making each guest's experience a special one. When combined with the attention to detail at every stage - from the welcome cocktail when coming in, to the chef's inventive recipes and presentation of the dishes and overall fun touches, FP is an unmissable restaurant for locals and out of towners alike. We are really grateful to have FP in our neighborhood and love that they have recently started a la carte service which will make it easier for us (and likely others) to come by more frequently. We tried Fancypants for the first time and were really impressed as soon as we walked in to the hostess stand. She had a welcome drink ready with two choices of drink. She escorts us to our table and our server immediately approaches the table and explains our options on how to order. In the past, I think you had to do the Chef's dinner ($125/person) but now it's all à la carte. We opted for the Chef's dinner in order to try as many plates as possible. The food seemed to just keep coming. Every dish was outstanding. They seemed to keep throwing a few extras with the Chef's dinner. Now that we tried the Chef's dinner, will look forward to coming back and trying the à la carte approach. I can't say enough about the service and how impressed by the food offerings. Yes, if you go with the Chef's dinner option, you are in for an expensive meal but it's worth it. Otherwise, go à la carte and pick your dishes. A total 5 star experience in a totally casual setting. If you are a native, don't let having dinner on Dickerson Road scare you off. Don't let the tourists know about this place. read more

I've lived in Nashville for over 20 years and it's one of my favorite things to do to try the new restaurants that open here. A lot of the new ones are good but nothing too memorable. But Fancypants was one of my favorite food experiences I've had in a long time! And it's definitely a unique, special new restaurant that is 100% worth the hype. From the second you walk in, the service is outstanding. The little cocktail they serve you in the front while you're waiting for your table was such a nice touch. And it was so good I ordered another with dinner. Our server and all the service was incredible. The restaurant itself is fun and beautiful, but in a way that they don't take themselves too seriously. But the food! The food they take seriously! It's a prix fixe menu where you still get to make a lot of choices and the option to add a la carte dishes. My friend and I did a "caviar bump" off our hands- such a fun experience! Yolo! One of my favorite dishes was the halibut. I am still dreaming about it! And the tiramisu comes deconstructed- you put it together yourself and I seriously loved it. Last night was my first trip to Fancypants. Warning, this review may give you whiplash. The great: Incredible service Magical decor The Lion's Mane dish was earthy and filling Vodka shells a high note as well They offer a free drink, boozy or not, upon entry The not so great: A few dishes came out burnt, looking at you eggplant and turnip The cauliflower felt undercooked The big issue is the menu setup. They really should let you purchase a la carte. It's not a vegetarian restaurant but all of the 3 for $70 were vegetarian. The dishes had hearty portions so this isn't a critique on size. If you want a protein you need to order beef tartar from the bonus menu or the $165 steak. Also, the menu was all over the place. There were some solid Asian influenced dishes, a cluster of Italian, then a southern and Mexican influenced dish. I think the main issue is that it lacks cohesion. I would LOVE, LOVE for Fancypants to keep on fancying. If it can tie up some loose ends and figure out the menu, they'll be golden. read more

We had a really great time here! The layout of the menu with the different experiences made for a perfect anniversary that lasted over two hours. This felt more like an experience than a typical meal, due to the spacing of the dishes and experimental flavors. We loved the poached halibut, summer squash, and of course their signature vodka shells. Yes this was a pricey evening, but the flavors were fresh and you could tell everything was thoughtful with good quality. We left full and happy. The service was absolutely phenomenal. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because of our incredible server--it's truly heartbreaking to write this--but the food was a huge letdown. We kept hoping each course would improve, but it was either bland or just didn't hit the mark. The biggest disappointment was the Cacio e Pepe, which substituted noodles with onions. Fancy pants is a delightful, unique dining experience that earned my 5 star rating last night. In anticipation of the evening I was surprised to not find a menu to peruse. Turns out the menu changes often and even our excellent server found changes since returning from vacation a week ago.There is ample parking at Fancypants and a complimentary cocktail is offered at the host station. This is a unique small taste of four ingredients, Cava, bitters and two very red additions. Bright and refreshing. The decor is an interesting blend of a warehouse industrial look softened with red textiles and floral booths. The two bar areas are inviting and simply built. Our party of four enjoyed a large booth. Our clear view of the food prep area was a show in itself. Each chef was meticulous in preparing the food and preparation. Our server Emily was well educated about each offering on the menu. We chose the $70 pp option giving each person a choice of 3 options. With 4 of us, we enjoyed all 9 offerings and doubled up on three. This sounds confusing, but Emily guided us through the deliciously interesting meal. Starting with lightest fare to heaviest. Most of the offerings were off the charts excellent. Here were our favorites: The Avocado and smoked banana, onion noodles with cheese, Lion's Mane Mushroom, cabbage with miso, pasta shells. We allowed our server to choose the order our portions were served. Each one unique and tasty. (I would ask for the Lions Main to be served earlier in the meal as by the time it arrived I was pretty full. There is a pallet cleansing drink of mountain basil soda sure to wake up your tastebuds part way through the meal. This was a fun evening of foods prepared in most unique and delicious ways. The menu is confusing AF. We asked several questions for clarity and still weren't sure we ordered correctly. I love the idea of a Prix fixe menu but this just felt overwhelming and made me want to say never mind, I'll just have dessert. Best dirty martini I've ever had but every other cocktail we tried was lacking something. They weren't bad by any means but definitely not fantastic cocktails. Every entree needed seasoning. I saw on instagram after we left other tables were offered fresh pepper, we never were but also didn't think to ask. Nothing had much flavor. They were filling dishes. The vodka shells and the caviar stole the show. I might be back if I could just order those two things. The bathrooms were fun. The service was slow. We arrived about 15 min before our reservation time and left 3 hours later. I love a meal that is an experience but I felt anxious and antsy sitting so long between courses. The volume level was great. Our server spoke too softly. Whomever was closest to her had to let the rest of the table know what she said but we were able to have conversation at a reasonable level which is becoming more rare in town these days. I also had the hiramasa crudo and the jammy deviled egg. I wish I would've had other people to go with me so I could've ordered more dishes, but those three were the perfect amount of food for one, not to mention a few other small bites they brought me to try of other dishes and the complimentary drink upon arrival. The creativity is what really makes this place stand out, and what drew me to it with to begin with is having that elevated menu while still being fun. High Hopes But Disappointed My husband and I visited this restaurant for a special occasion, based on a recommendation from our daughter who lives in East Nashville. We live south of Nashville, so we were excited to try something new and enjoy a special night out together in the Big City. Our first impression was that the restaurant had a unique and lively atmosphere. The decor was bold--red, vibrant, fun, and did I mention red? Everything was red. Despite the energetic music, we could still carry on a conversation without any difficulty, which we appreciated. The staff provided excellent service. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, and our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food and overall dining experience did not live up to our expectations. First, the menu left us confused about the restaurant's culinary theme. Its design, with casual fonts and colors, felt more suited to a diner than a fine dining establishment. The selection of dishes was eclectic, featuring a 32-ounce Porterhouse (Cowboy) steak as the main attraction alongside an assortment of sides that didn't seem to fit together. Our side choices that night, included: Asian-inspired Miso Butter Malfadine, grilled Lion's Mane mushrooms over mashed potatoes, a Tea Leaf Caesar Salad, Japanese sweet potatoes, octopus and short ribs, etc. While the sides were okay and presented nicely, none stood out as memorable except for the salad, which was the best dish of the night. The biggest disappointment, however, was the steak. It was advertised as the Chef's Steak Dinner for Two at $125 per person. While we were initially shocked by the price, we were willing to splurge for a special night at what we expected to be a high-quality restaurant. We ordered the steak medium-rare, and while it looked impressive and came pre-sliced around the bone, the texture made it difficult to enjoy. The steak was tough and chewy, with an excessive amount of fat and sinew. I typically order ribeye or filet when dining out, so I was unfamiliar with a Porterhouse, but I expected better quality and tenderness, especially at that price point. We ended up eating very little of it and took most of it home, though we never finished it. The price seemed outrageous for what we got and for what we have experienced in other of Nashville's fine dining restaurants and steakhouses. And, we felt like there was no other real choice. There were basically two options on the menu: 1. Chef's Steak Dinner for Two at $125 per person with six total sides--overkill. 2. Each guest picks three sides, from a selection of 9, for $75 per person (no steak) Sides that night did include Short Ribs, the only meat option. To add insult to injury, the bill included a line item called "Healthy Hospitality" for $5.50. We had no idea what it was. 'Never seen those two words together before. Was this to assure that the staff was in good health? Healthy? Hospitality? Was it an upcharge for organic ingredients? When we asked our server, she said, "This enables us to make $7.00 an hour instead of the $2.00 an hour servers get paid." Really?! Are the tips on such expensive dinners not enough? Our bill, without alcohol or dessert, came to $279.88 (including tax), and with a 20% tip, totaled about $335.00. Will we go back? No, we won't. Would I recommend it to others? Unfortunately, no. Nashville has so many outstanding restaurants, and this one did not make the cut. I share this feedback with the hope that the owners will take time to reflect and make adjustments. I want new businesses to succeed, but some significant changes are needed here for that to happen. read more

The entire concept of this restaurant is beautifully orchestrated. From the second you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a friendly hostess and a drink. We waited only a minute while they prepared our table. The decor is on point and look forward to returning and sitting on the patio when the weather is warm. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive to all our needs (and one person in our group was a bit demanding). The restaurant is vegetarian forward which is nice to have in Nashville. Hannah greeted us at the door with a welcome cocktail that really got things rolling (thank you Hannah, you were the best!) before walking us through a Lynchian entryway into this Eyes Wide Shut 70's-esque establishment that screams both disco and speak easy simultaneously. Everything from the complementary focaccia to our cocktails and dishes - which varied between the most interesting and tasty beet salad I've ever had ( I make em myself weekly too), to a Burmese caesar salad and a fresh and visually stunning take on crudo - was unique and thoughtful, bringing something to the table that you'd be hard pressed to find under one roof just about anywhere, let alone in a traditional meat-forward region like the south. Oh this one makes me so sad because I love red headed stranger and butcher & bee but fancypants is just not on the level with them Starts out strong with a welcome cocktail and service is great but there were exactly 2 dishes of the 10 we ordered (outside dessert) that I would eat again - the squash and the sweet potato. The rest was truly just not good. Flavors didn't marry well, nothing made me even want to have a second bite. The only reason I would return would be for the birthday cheesecake (or if they completely changed the menu) Doubtful this one will last long which sucks :( read more

We decided to go to Fancy Pants for our anniversary. We loved the look and the vibe and the food was great. Was it worth the price of admission? Definitely not. We also made the mistake of having our table outside. It became obvious that it was better to sit inside for many reasons, including people watching to observe the making of the dishes, especially the beef. The outside seating is enclosed, with the side next to Dickerson Pike made of wooden slats, where you can see people walking by (which can be iffy, ) while the traffic is extremely loud (racing cars) and annoying.. We ordered six different dishes, some better than others. The fish collar was good, but kind of weird. Enough for one person, but definitely not for sharing. From what I saw in the restaurant, it looked like like the best thing to order there was the beef, but my wife is a vegetarian. It is also the most expensive thing on the menu. Our waiter kept reminding us that the restaurant was all about "the experience" - to the point where he said the experience was more important than then the chefs and what they were making. I've been to restaurants that were a great experience, this wasn't one of them. it was fine and it lookscool but I would not call it a great "experience". Beyond that, it took an extremely long time for each plate to show up and we ended up being there two hours. Maybe that's part of the experience? It might've been a more pleasant two hours if we were inside where everything was happening instead of outside we were the only ones sitting ... next to the loud traffic on Dickerson Road. The food was great. The experience was OK and it was expensive, but if I was having the beef in the restaurant, I would probably have enjoyed it even more. As for the experience? Maybe our experience would be better with a different waiter next time. Apparently, the owner of this restaurant is affiliated with Butcher and Bee, which we been to three times. I doubt if we will come back to Fancy Pants. $70 for three vegetarian dishes (per person), and $25 for an entrée that really isn't shareable. $120 per person for the steak (two person minimum) and two (shared) vegetarian dishes. The service was great. Our server was lovely. However, the food was so disappointing and extremely overpriced. We weren't sure if we were being punked or not. The only thing fancy about this place was the check. The carrot bolognese looked like brown mush with soggy noodles. My boyfriend said "They must have left that in the mircrowave too long" while my friend burnt her tongue and nearly spit out her sauce across the table. I will cherish this meal has the worst I've ever had. I'll never forget 36th birthday. Fancypants more like Poopypants. read more

Stumbled across this place through yelp. Gave it a shot and wow it blew us away... 10/10 food and the service was just as good. Would reccomend trying this, especially good with a group. read more

Very cool atmosphere. The food was so good, the menu rotates more often than not, but everything is always good here!!
