We had a really great time here! The layout of the menu with the different experiences made for a perfect anniversary that lasted over two hours. This felt more like an experience than a typical meal, due to the spacing of the dishes and experimental flavors. We loved the poached halibut, summer squash, and of course their signature vodka shells. Yes this was a pricey evening, but the flavors were fresh and you could tell everything was thoughtful with good quality. We left full and happy. In a city that has been overrun with out of towners opening their big city concepts in Nashville, I am more drawn to supporting our local restauranteurs like the group that runs Fancypants. Their hospitality, service, and experience sets them apart from every place in town. And the food! Some of my favorites right now are their steak tartar (the best I have had) and butternut squash. I came in last night while in town for the weekend, and am so glad I happened upon this place. My favorite dish was the special on the menu for the night- the duck course with a foie gras sauce with I believe maitake mushrooms and a sausage on the side. I also had the hiramasa crudo and the jammy deviled egg. I wish I would've had other people to go with me so I could've ordered more dishes, but those three were the perfect amount of food for one, not to mention a few other small bites they brought me to try of other dishes and the complimentary drink upon arrival. The creativity is what really makes this place stand out, and what drew me to it with to begin with is having that elevated menu while still being fun. Fancy pants is a delightful, unique dining experience that earned my 5 star rating last night. In anticipation of the evening I was surprised to not find a menu to peruse. Turns out the menu changes often and even our excellent server found changes since returning from vacation a week ago.There is ample parking at Fancypants and a complimentary cocktail is offered at the host station. This is a unique small taste of four ingredients, Cava, bitters and two very red additions. Bright and refreshing. The decor is an interesting blend of a warehouse industrial look softened with red textiles and floral booths. The two bar areas are inviting and simply built. Our party of four enjoyed a large booth. Our clear view of the food prep area was a show in itself. Each chef was meticulous in preparing the food and preparation. Our server Emily was well educated about each offering on the menu. We chose the $70 pp option giving each person a choice of 3 options. With 4 of us, we enjoyed all 9 offerings and doubled up on three. This sounds confusing, but Emily guided us through the deliciously interesting meal. Starting with lightest fare to heaviest. Most of the offerings were off the charts excellent. Here were our favorites: The Avocado and smoked banana, onion noodles with cheese, Lion's Mane Mushroom, cabbage with miso, pasta shells. We allowed our server to choose the order our portions were served. Each one unique and tasty. (I would ask for the Lions Main to be served earlier in the meal as by the time it arrived I was pretty full. There is a pallet cleansing drink of mountain basil soda sure to wake up your tastebuds part way through the meal. This was a fun evening of foods prepared in most unique and delicious ways. Welcome cocktail when we arrived was a plus they have over every other restaurant in Nashville. The vibe is vibey. You definitely know they mean they want you to have a f*cking blast. The menu is confusing AF. We asked several questions for clarity and still weren't sure we ordered correctly. I love the idea of a Prix fixe menu but this just felt overwhelming and made me want to say never mind, I'll just have dessert. Best dirty martini I've ever had but every other cocktail we tried was lacking something. They weren't bad by any means but definitely not fantastic cocktails. Every entree needed seasoning. I saw on instagram after we left other tables were offered fresh pepper, we never were but also didn't think to ask. Nothing had much flavor. They were filling dishes. The vodka shells and the caviar stole the show. I might be back if I could just order those two things. The bathrooms were fun. The service was slow. We arrived about 15 min before our reservation time and left 3 hours later. I love a meal that is an experience but I felt anxious and antsy sitting so long between courses. The volume level was great. Our server spoke too softly. Whomever was closest to her had to let the rest of the table know what she said but we were able to have conversation at a reasonable level which is becoming more rare in town these days. High Hopes But Disappointed My husband and I visited this restaurant for a special occasion, based on a recommendation from our daughter who lives in East Nashville. We live south of Nashville, so we were excited to try something new and enjoy a special night out together in the Big City. Our first impression was that the restaurant had a unique and lively atmosphere. The decor was bold--red, vibrant, fun, and did I mention red? Everything was red. Despite the energetic music, we could still carry on a conversation without any difficulty, which we appreciated. The staff provided excellent service. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, and our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food and overall dining experience did not live up to our expectations. First, the menu left us confused about the restaurant's culinary theme. Its design, with casual fonts and colors, felt more suited to a diner than a fine dining establishment. The selection of dishes was eclectic, featuring a 32-ounce Porterhouse (Cowboy) steak as the main attraction alongside an assortment of sides that didn't seem to fit together. Our side choices that night, included: Asian-inspired Miso Butter Malfadine, grilled Lion's Mane mushrooms over mashed potatoes, a Tea Leaf Caesar Salad, Japanese sweet potatoes, octopus and short ribs, etc. While the sides were okay and presented nicely, none stood out as memorable except for the salad, which was the best dish of the night. The biggest disappointment, however, was the steak. It was advertised as the Chef's Steak Dinner for Two at $125 per person. While we were initially shocked by the price, we were willing to splurge for a special night at what we expected to be a high-quality restaurant. We ordered the steak medium-rare, and while it looked impressive and came pre-sliced around the bone, the texture made it difficult to enjoy. The steak was tough and chewy, with an excessive amount of fat and sinew. I typically order ribeye or filet when dining out, so I was unfamiliar with a Porterhouse, but I expected better quality and tenderness, especially at that price point. We ended up eating very little of it and took most of it home, though we never finished it. The price seemed outrageous for what we got and for what we have experienced in other of Nashville's fine dining restaurants and steakhouses. And, we felt like there was no other real choice. There were basically two options on the menu: 1. Chef's Steak Dinner for Two at $125 per person with six total sides--overkill. 2. Each guest picks three sides, from a selection of 9, for $75 per person (no steak) Sides that night did include Short Ribs, the only meat option. To add insult to injury, the bill included a line item called "Healthy Hospitality" for $5.50. We had no idea what it was. 'Never seen those two words together before. Was this to assure that the staff was in good health? Healthy? Hospitality? Was it an upcharge for organic ingredients? When we asked our server, she said, "This enables us to make $7.00 an hour instead of the $2.00 an hour servers get paid." Really?! Are the tips on such expensive dinners not enough? Our bill, without alcohol or dessert, came to $279.88 (including tax), and with a 20% tip, totaled about $335.00. Will we go back? No, we won't. Would I recommend it to others? Unfortunately, no. Nashville has so many outstanding restaurants, and this one did not make the cut. I share this feedback with the hope that the owners will take time to reflect and make adjustments. I want new businesses to succeed, but some significant changes are needed here for that to happen. read more

The entire concept of this restaurant is beautifully orchestrated. From the second you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a friendly hostess and a drink. We waited only a minute while they prepared our table. The decor is on point and look forward to returning and sitting on the patio when the weather is warm. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive to all our needs (and one person in our group was a bit demanding). The restaurant is vegetarian forward which is nice to have in Nashville. This was an unbelievably amazing experience from the moment we walked in to the very end. We tried the bread service (don't miss out on this), 6 main menu items (the pastas are to die for and the way they highlighted local veggies with inventive twists that we loved was unexpected for two carnivores), a few of the very creative cocktails (loved the pink tutu and the overalls) and trust when I say do not walk out without dessert. Came here with my partner for a little treat, especially since their veggie forward menu offers a pleasant change from most Nashville spots. Hannah greeted us at the door with a welcome cocktail that really got things rolling (thank you Hannah, you were the best!) before walking us through a Lynchian entryway into this Eyes Wide Shut 70's-esque establishment that screams both disco and speak easy simultaneously. Everything from the complementary focaccia to our cocktails and dishes - which varied between the most interesting and tasty beet salad I've ever had ( I make em myself weekly too), to a Burmese caesar salad and a fresh and visually stunning take on crudo - was unique and thoughtful, bringing something to the table that you'd be hard pressed to find under one roof just about anywhere, let alone in a traditional meat-forward region like the south. We decided to go to Fancy Pants for our anniversary. We loved the look and the vibe and the food was great. Was it worth the price of admission? Definitely not. We also made the mistake of having our table outside. It became obvious that it was better to sit inside for many reasons, including people watching to observe the making of the dishes, especially the beef. The outside seating is enclosed, with the side next to Dickerson Pike made of wooden slats, where you can see people walking by (which can be iffy, ) while the traffic is extremely loud (racing cars) and annoying.. We ordered six different dishes, some better than others. The fish collar was good, but kind of weird. Enough for one person, but definitely not for sharing. From what I saw in the restaurant, it looked like like the best thing to order there was the beef, but my wife is a vegetarian. It is also the most expensive thing on the menu. Our waiter kept reminding us that the restaurant was all about "the experience" - to the point where he said the experience was more important than then the chefs and what they were making. I've been to restaurants that were a great experience, this wasn't one of them. it was fine and it lookscool but I would not call it a great "experience". Beyond that, it took an extremely long time for each plate to show up and we ended up being there two hours. Maybe that's part of the experience? It might've been a more pleasant two hours if we were inside where everything was happening instead of outside we were the only ones sitting ... next to the loud traffic on Dickerson Road. The food was great. The experience was OK and it was expensive, but if I was having the beef in the restaurant, I would probably have enjoyed it even more. As for the experience? Maybe our experience would be better with a different waiter next time. Apparently, the owner of this restaurant is affiliated with Butcher and Bee, which we been to three times. I doubt if we will come back to Fancy Pants. $70 for three vegetarian dishes (per person), and $25 for an entrée that really isn't shareable. $120 per person for the steak (two person minimum) and two (shared) vegetarian dishes. The service was great. Our server was lovely. However, the food was so disappointing and extremely overpriced. We weren't sure if we were being punked or not. The only thing fancy about this place was the check. The carrot bolognese looked like brown mush with soggy noodles. My boyfriend said "They must have left that in the mircrowave too long" while my friend burnt her tongue and nearly spit out her sauce across the table. My friends and I, a group of 5 visited fancypants on a Saturday night for a birthday celebration. Overall, the service was okay. It was jam packed so the timing of the dishes was fine. We did end up being there for almost 2 hours. We were required to order the 3 course tasting menu. The server seemed very rushed at the end of our service when she was taking our check. And she would not spilt the check according to what everyone had only a equal amount across multiple cards. It was extremely frustrating that they refused to split our bill by each person. It ended up being almost $600 and I was with a group and I didn't drink at all but ended up paying for my friends drinks too. I can't understand how you could split a bill evenly but not by head. It seems lazy honestly. For that high of a bill they could have been more accommodating. It was not mentioned when we began the meal and not sure if they mentioned it on the reservation since I did not book it. Another huge issue I had with this restaurant was that the regular tasting menu and the vegan tasting menu which I ordered was the same price $75 for 3 courses. My friends had a fish and meat course whereas I had a mushroom and salad course and was charged the same price. How are these ingredients the same price? It's just frustrating to have to pay so much for vegetables. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant for the prices and the lack of accommodation. Although it is a very beautiful restaurant and quite popular I would rather spend that kind of money somewhere that you are not forced in to a tasting menu with limited and expensive options. read more

Fancypants is a fun concept with a maximalist interior that sets the mood for a fabulous dining experience. However, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Not only is the menu hidden from guests until they arrive, (no peeking online), but the entire menu is vegetarian save for an enormous (and expensive) steak special. I personally adore a vegetable forward menu however your dining companions may not. In an era of dietary restrictions and dietary preferences this doesn't bode well for a night out with a diverse group of friends. The food itself was more impressive in its description than on the plate. The execution simply wasn't there. The plating is pretty and thoughtful yet the food itself was somehow lacking in flavor and texture. The steak and potatoes however, were well executed. Ironic for a vegetable forward menu. Service was uncoordinated, and the large horseshoe booths are nice to look at but rather uncomfortable to navigate. I suspect service will be improved over time. All in all, there are just too many restaurants at this price point that provide a more well rounded and satisfying experience.
