We placed a to go order for a number of dishes including an order of cashew chicken with no brown sauce. We were told it would take 15 to 20 minutes so we sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and they offered a bowl of wonton chips while we waited. The food was ready quicker than 15 or 20 minutes which was a nice surprise. We got home and unfortunately the cashew chicken came with the brown sauce the I asked be left off. I noticed that it wasn't specified on the receipt even though I ordered it. I immediately called the restaurant and they apologized and offered to replace the dish without the brown sauce and since if wasn't far from my house I agreed. I drove to the restaurant to pick it up and came home and while there was no brown sauce now there were no cashews...not what I asked or paid for. Now I'm afraid to order to go at Dao unless I check our food before we leave the restaurant. I rated this restaurant 3 stars because the food was flavorful but I couldn't get the dish I ordered or paid for.

Overall, though, we enjoyed the meal and would definitely order again. The value was excellent, and with a few improvements to some of the hot dishes, it could easily be a 5-star experience.

They said I could go back in for a fresh one but I moved and live too far so that was not an option. I asked if I could just have a refund but they needed me in person, which I could not do. I ultimately agreed for a simple credit because they knew me and I reminded them that I had been coming to them for years, but it would be harder for me to get to that location anytime soon. They said it would be okay! *note: I'd ordered often enough and my orders were always $70-$90+. EVERY. TIME. Many times a year. I told them I moved out and I'll take a free credit of a spicy pork but was not planning to return for at MINIMUM 3ish months maybe..but they could not give me a refund over the phone. The location was simply no longer convenient anymore but I love their quality and flavor most the time. They told me they would keep my number and note that it could be a while until I returned but they said it was okay!! I say that yet again because I was promised and reassured multiple times in this phone call back in May. I even worried it would be too long but they confirmed thrice they would give me the a new free crispy pork no problems. That was that. Fast forward to today, October 23, 2026. I call deer valley location and ask if I can order potstickers and crispy spicy pork. I remind her of my credit and she FOUND my order and told me it was written down but there were no potstickers on that order. I said yes, I'd like the credit for the spicy pork and I will happily pay for potstickers. She was confused and I had to explain a couple different ways while she ultimately said okay okay and hung up. I drive the 25 minutes over there and all she has for me are the potstickers.. I ask where the crispy spicy pork is and she said she won't give it to me. She said the previous order I had was too long ago. I told her the story yet again, but she said so many people call and complain and want free food and she doesn't believe that the food was old or that I was promised a credit. But I explained AGAIN that they had told me that it would be OK. And she still wouldn't believe me. She refused to even let me order the item again!! She refused to give me the credit that was promised. I told her I understood it had been a long time and that people try to do that. She said that the pork they gave me was not old. GASLIGHTING me to thinking I was wrong. I outright told her that they sold me old pork! And she still was shaking her head no and would not believe me. No other staff would even step in when I asked for management or the owner. One girl continued to sit people around me while I was being disrespected by this mean old lady. Eventually, I told her I even had the picture because I knew I might run into this issue having been a while. She wanted to see the picture so I showed her. I zoomed in and said LOOK. It's dry and was HORRIBLE. I even showed her a fresh one I received from the Scottsdale location in comparison to the garbage they sold me. She barely believed me after I showed her the old picture with the time date stamp, but then she said she would not give me that exact item because I would simply complain again :0. Like wut. She said she wouldn't let them make me that item and repeated herself saying "I will just complain again because they will make it wrong." I said I simply wanted a fresh one this time and she said they will still do it wrong, didn't want me to complain later. She had said I could something else but not even that item anymore. Refused even though she realized I had the proof to be right. I was pissed at this point and reluctantly said maybe I'd take a kung pao chicken? But then she started ringing me up and she was going to charge me for it!!! I said forget it. You are practicing BAD business lady. SHAME ON YOU. I said I didn't even want the food anymore because I didn't trust her and her behavior left a bad taste in my mouth. The Deer Valley location shattered and burned a bridge with a long time customer turned angry at this lady who gaslit me into thinking that I was the one in the wrong.. She had recited my own order back to me reminding me that they had written me down, for a credit? Apparently not. But she was the one that told me the date it happened. That's how I even found the picture!! But then she said she ultimately had no proof??? She was accusing me of being someone who is just lying for free food.. Wow. Nasty piece of work, lady. The Orange Chicken was also dry and lacked sauce, making both dishes bland and unappetizing. To make matters worse, each entrée is supposed to come with rice, yet only a very small portion was provided. At this point, it feels like this restaurant is cutting corners and poorly managed. I'm generally not someone who leaves negative reviews, but the lack of care, consistency, and food quality is impossible to ignore. This was my last time giving this establishment my hard-earned money. I'd rather spend it somewhere that values its customers and takes pride in the food they serve.
