Dave's famous bbq... something was special about you. Here everyone's a winner. The service was excellent with a friendly helpful staff. The food was pretty good but lack luster in certain realms such as the brisket. Overall it was very good and I would recommend highly. Very large building with a nice welcoming atmosphere. read more

I've given this place two chances. Each visit about a year apart. They won't be getting a third chance. Not good on multiple fronts.

Burnt Ends 3/10 These were NOT burnt ends. They were just meat chunks, and they weren't even burnt. They were not vey tender either. Que Combo - 1 meat - Texas Beef Brisket 6/10 Didn't really taste like low and slow smoked bbq, could have been more tender and also there was no fat. - Sweet Corn (on the cob) 6/10 Wasn't sweet, and was overcooked so the corn was a little mushy. - Garlic Red-Skin Mashed Potatoes 6/10 Decent. Not really garlicky though. - Cornbread muffin 8/10 Actually pretty good, and I don't like cornbread. The muffin top was the best part, had a few crispy parts to it. I was so excited to see Famous Dave's open in Sandusky, especially in such a great waterfront location! We were really looking forward to trying it out. I even called ahead to confirm that the patio was pet-friendly, and was happy to hear that it was. Unfortunately, our visit didn't go as we hoped. When my husband and I arrived, we went to the bar area and weren't greeted or given any direction. We weren't sure if we should wait to be seated or just pick a spot, so after asking, we were told to sit anywhere. We chose a table near the water -- the whole reason we came! Shortly after, a server came outside and asked if we'd checked in with the host. We explained that we had spoken to the bartender, who said to sit wherever. The server left, and no one came back. After waiting, my husband went to ask the bartenders if anyone would be helping us. That's when the server came out again, and we were told the section we were in was closed, so we needed to move. This meant packing up all of our things -- including our dog's setup -- to relocate. Meanwhile, we could hear the bartenders and server arguing about the situation, including comments about it being too hot outside and some unnecessary language. At that point, we felt unwelcome and decided to leave. Sadly, we'll never get that 20 minutes back, and it felt like no one really wanted to help. Very disappointed in our meal here. The chopped pork was so salty it was inedible. The beans were bland and the Mac n Cheese was very dry. The banana pudding tasted okay, but it was more of a soup than a pudding. Even the whipped cream was liquified. But it gets a lot worse. The ribs were disgusting. Undercooked, tough, chewy, and tasteless. I've never had ribs that particular texture. Almost like they came from Costco and were thrown on the grill for a little while. Chili's ribs were better and Chili's ribs are a joke. The beef brisket was passable, but even it was just mediocre. The only reason I gave it a second star was the service, which was fast and friendly, and the ambiance, which was pleasant. In short, I'm not sure why Dave is famous. Maybe change the name to Infamous Dave's? Or just go back to being a Quaker Steak n Lube. That was good food! read more

We were at your restaurant Saturday evening around 4pm. We thought we would like sitting outside. But it was chilly and we ask to go inside which our waitress, Micala C. Was very accommodating. She was very nice, sweet and pleasant. My only concern, having a restaurant myself, when we say "thank you" to her when she did something for us. She said, " no problem", instead of "you're welcome" or you're very welcome", meaning she cared. No problem makes people think there was a problem or I was a problem. Think about this for a minute. Not over yet. Once we had come into the restaurant, I asked if they had a sweat shirt that I can purchase because I didn't think that I needed to wear warmer clothing it was 77 degrees outside but the air was chilly. They said no. That is when I said ok. We were seated , it was much cooler in the restaurant than it was outside. By the way, it was last of June. I asked my husband to go back to our hotel and get me a sweater. I ordered for him. His brother was with us and he ordered his meal. He returned with my sweater and Micala said are you warmer and I said yes thank you. She again said no problem. I noticed that she and other wait staff were wearing long sleeves, and hoodies. I said you guys cold too, she said she was always cold. I would have liked her to say "I mentioned this to my boss". I always ask my staff to let me know immediately concerns so I would not receive this type of review assess the issue at that time. Not over yet, my husband and I got our salad and drinks, and appetizer. We were happy with the service thus far. Then my husband and received or rib dinner, by the way, the ribs were delicious. My brother-in-law did not receive his cheese burger dinner at the same time we received our dinner. We waited and waited for his dinner. My husband and I were done eating. My brother-in-law still had not received his dinner. Backing up abit, we asked for more paper towels and ketchup, which we had very little when we received our dinner, and again Micala said again " no problem". That was never going to happen I guess. We got up and exchanged them from a another table. Ok, we had to get her attention to let her know about the brother-in-law not getting his meal. Once he received his cheese burger dinner, he said it also was delicious. The food was great. Ok see where some issues that need to be address. I can see where you are thinking, we are terrible customers. Seriously, we are not. We were very pleasant and tried to understand why....our meal came to $91.00 plus for 3. We gave Micala 22% tip. Remember we had a restaurant and I did not want anyone to leave my restaurant feeling as we did. Your restaurant could be so successful, it has great bones, in a great place. By the way, the restaurant on a Saturday, was not busy. Even when we left little after 6 pm. Please help your staff. They have great potential. read more

Chopped pork sandwich was more like a slider. Tiny portion of pork and coleslaw. My wife and son liked their rib dinners.

It was a awfully long wait. They took ages to seat us. We were starving because the food was taking so long.

This was my first time at Famous Dave's, we were traveling home from Cedar Point and were looking for a nice lunch spot before we hit the road. Nichole waited on us and she was outstanding and so kind! She made us laugh the entire time and was very knowledgeable about the menu. She kept our drinks full and everything was out in a timely manner. We went around 1pm so it was very slow but the inside was huge and I'm sure the ambiance is great on a Friday night! Went in with a large group, the staff and manger were rude and unwilling to accommodate us. We even called ahead to let them know how many would be coming in. Once we got there the manager stated they were only able to serve half are group at a time, while the other half was expected to just sit and wait. 0 stars is more appropriate! read more
