The tacos were an absolute surprise and absolutely perfect. The house margarita was amazing. The street corn was perfect and will keep you going back for more. While not a typical "family" restaurant, the staff were very sweet to my grandkids who absolutely loved the cornbread. If you're looking for real Mexican food this is NOT the place. The guacamole is just mashed avocado and lime. No salt, no flavor. The queso?? Zero flavor and doesn't look or taste like cheese whatsoever, pretty sure it's straight out of a can. After two years of craving my usual tacos with a side of street corn, with that dream being taken away due to the Amherst location closing. I stumble upon another location... yes I live 30 minutes away but I'd drive miles for my usual. Walking through the door and seeing the blue and copper wall with the wooden tables lined along the wall, the feeling that I was missing rushed back. Our delightful server takes my order and I'm overwhelmed with joy. I get to enjoy my favorite food once again! It all came out in a time manner. As my food was sat on my table tears of joy filled my eyes. My delicious tacos in my sight again! My first bite brought me back to how they were two years ago. Walking along the sidewalk their laser cut steel sign is easily missed, the narrow front facing the sidewalk hides a small restaurant with a long solid wood bar counter with more stools than you might expect for such a small place. They have a full bar and a selection of beers, including a Mango Habanero the server suggested. A fruity palette with a biting swallow, not my thing but another local brew (Pacifico) did the trick. We started with salsa and chips, what a surprise: freshly made salsa and a huge tray of chips, delicious. We followed up with lobster taco's that were as good as "anything lobster" we have had in Maine! Service was happy, attentive, quick and appreciated. Tasted more like her name was Margaret. Lobster tacos were terrible - like a bland lobster salad. Again, an Aunt Margaret favorite. Even salsa was bland, chips too oily. Seating was uncomfortable and awkward on the patio. There was a door right by (like 1 foot) from our table, where either employees or tenants from the building exited. I went to Barra during a trip to Sandusky, OH. Location: great! Very close to 'boardwalk'. There is ample street parking. Decor: very creative. Made the most of a narrow location with several tables along the wall that has a color palette that pulls you in. Service: very good and efficient. Just the right amount of attentive. Food: last but not least food is very good. The steak in my burrito bowl was amazing? Only reason for not giving them a five is the flavor nuances in my rice and side dishes- lack of them to be more precise. They need to spice things up a little. Overall: highly recommend if you ever visit Sandusky, OH! While you are there don't bother looking for where the Tommy Boy was filmed. Apparently not here. read more

Found this place on Yelp while visiting Sandusky, OH. It's unassuming from the outside. The inside looks pretty cool with rusty iron walls, high ceilings and a bar. It's a narrow and long space. The menu is very creative and has a lot of options. If I had more time, I would have loved to try more. I got the street corn side and it was delicious. Our waitress asked if I wanted it off the cob. I didn't even know that was an option but it's so much better than eating it on the cob and getting it all over your face! I also got the carnitas taco and the surf & turf taco. The carnitas taco was delish. The carnitas were very tender and flavorful. The feta cheese threw me off. There was a lot of it on the taco and I wish it was queso blanco or queso fresco. We were visiting Cedar Point as a group of 11 and looking for a place to eat. This was our 2nd choice since the other place didn't have enough seating. Barra was able to seat us quickly. The service we received was very good. Our waitress was attentive and offered suggestions. The drinks were good, even the house margarita, which is usually my most places below average. I had their infused margarita and definitely recommend. We ordered the appetizers with chips, salsa, queso, and guacamole for the table. The queso was good, the guacamole lacked taste, and we had to add salt and squeeze our own lime from our drink to give it flavor. The salsa was bland, and we added the garlic hotsauce on the table to make it decent. I had 3 tacos and street corn. The corn was average, my tacos were actually pretty good, the Barra dust on the cauliflower was tasty... maybe they need to add it to the other food. My table mate had a bowl with grilled chicken and, again, no flavor or seasoning.... this was the agreement of two with the chicken. I'm scoring a 2.8 for service, drinks, and my tacos. They use flour "shells" which everyone knows it's not what you should use in a taco but alternative was hard shells??? Like Taco Bell tacos. The margaritas were flavorful and was just what we needed when we sat down. We began with the salsa combo, added some guacamole & corn salsa. Delicious. We ordered tacos for our entree. The carnitas were so tender and smoky. The chicken taco was super tender & flavorful. The lobster taco was very flavorful, lots of meat. Well worth the price! I thought the bacon overpowered the flavor of the lobster, I will omit that item the next time I come visit Barra. The cauliflower taco is one of the best around. It is sautéed to perfection served on a bed of slaw. The elote off the cob was so delicious!! I wanted to order a second side! Barra is a good place for Mexican drinks and food. Its main specialty is tacos. There's a whole lot of fillings and toppings. Even though it's not, it tastes authentic. Put that good hot sauce on them. I require a drink with Mexican food. It has several good ones here. You can't go wrong with a margarita. It's about $7 for a large glass. The tacos are the star. It's about $4 for most, and it's $5 for the premium. These are a pretty good size. I like the black bean tacos with the cilantro rice. This comes with cheese but you can substitute many toppings. It also has other food. The most popular among these other options seems to be the burgers, which often have Mexican toppings like guacamole and peppers. It has several good seating choices. Outside there's a small patio. The bar inside has a few big TVs and there's also some tables. read more

3.5 for Great start for a cocktail street bar. Our party had came in without reservations so it was about 20minute wait. They have an upstairs area for drinks which is really nice and spaced out. I probably enjoyed the upstairs pre-drinks than the actual food. Bartender and trainee were really fun and attentive on the margaritas + mixed drinks we received. After we received our text that there was a table we came down an were seated immediately. Our waitress was nice and quick for refills. My wife & I used to religiously come here every week in 2019/early 2020 before Covid and the mandatory shut down happened in our area and LOVED coming here. But ever since they opened back up they have slowly started to get worse and worse each time. It really does bother me to have to post this because we were such huge fans of Barra and always had perfect experiences. So I'm not leaving this review to bash them, only with hopes that the right person sees this and makes whatever necessary adjustments or whatever. Lately the food has been coming out quick, but cold. The last 4 or 5 times we have eaten here the food has been cold. And the fillings in the tacos are totally out of proportion. Their menu is is priced how you'd expect for a restaurant of their caliber, so normally we wouldn't mind paying a little more for the quality food. But it hasn't been worth it lately. I attached a picture of a side of shrimp we paid $3 for (once again, totally expect to pay decent money for a side of shrimp, but $3 for literally 3 pieces seemed a bit extreme to me) along with ALL of our food being cold and tasted just bad/not right. The latest time my wife mentioned the food being cold to the waitress in an extremely apologetic manner because she works in the food/service industry as well and never is rude about complaining anything and the server kinda just rolled her eyes at her cut her off and walked off with sorta an attitude it seemed. Which once again normally NEVER happens. Usually all the servers/staff is extremely pleasant about everything. I don't mean to bash this place because like I said, my family and I used to love it and were their biggest fans. It's just they have fell off their game lately. So I'm unlucky enough to have a girlfriend who isn't a fan of traditional soft shell tacos...imagine my surprise when I got her to be willing to try this place for lunch! We were downtown on a Sunday wandering around, trying to decide on a place when I suggested it, and with a little kicking and screaming we went in. It's not a big place and it was busy, but we sat down at the bar and were attended to pretty much right away (not an experience we'd have elsewhere). Our drinks were fine, I believe I had a Pacifico on Tap and what an underrated beer that is, good in the bottle, great as a draft, served cold. I don't remember my second drink but nothing disappointing. The atmosphere is fine, it's a light, airy place and they even put tables outside on the sidewalk if you want. They were serving a chorizo queso that was going to a lot of tables, we didn't get it but it looked delicious. As for the tacos? These are all a little upscale, with a lot of variety, although you can still get a traditional which is meat with cheese, lettuce, tomato. That's what my girlfriend got and I ate the rest of what she didn't, was very good. I ordered the carnita taco, and it was delicious...these are small in size but they pack them in, so mine was overflowing, the carnitas, oh man...very good. This was my first time trying perch - pleasant, mild, white fish that's cod-like. Hello! We placed a take out order and we're very disappointed. We ordered the salsa sampler, tacos and a salad. The sampler containers weren't even close to being full, and I know the containers they serve these salsas in at the restaurant are bigger. The cost is the same, eating in or out. They threw what looks like left over chips from 3 tables into a bag, not even filling to half. I also had the steak salad. The steak (all 5 bites!) we're extremely tough and not chewable with a gristly interior. Terrible. They also served me the butt of the head of lettuce. (See pics) My son ordered a shrimp taco with the avocado on the side. No sign of the side anywhere! He also ordered the blp taco-it had ONE small slice of BURNT bacon! Compared to West Coast/California/Southwest Mexican food this place pales. Definitely made for a bland midwestern palate. Perhaps the biggest issue is that so many folks hype it up but its really nothing. This place wouldn't make it in my hometown of Las Vegas. Not to mention the prices for what it is are redic. I usually love this place BUT I can't return due to a few issues I experienced the last couple times we went! The time before last, I took my cousin before she left for Egypt. We had a pretty hefty bill due to each having two margaritas which were between 11 and $12 which is no problem, however because I use my credit card they charge to be approximated 3% fee. I felt that C was already incorporated into the price of the margaritas! The second time we went we had to leave due to the fact after we received our margaritas and our mediocre appetizer which were horrible, the waitress never returned for our order. The chips she gave us with the appetizers were the bottom of the bag and teeny little pieces, and she never did anything about it! So we paid that bill which was $50 by the way and left to go to a better restaurant Cannot return for along time read more
