Music was not blasting (which we appreciated!). Booths are a bit uncomfortable. Not a big place so if you go during busy times you will probably have a longer wait. Things appeared clean. HOSTESS & SERVER: The host was friendly and sat us right away. Our server was very nice, she explained anything we had questions on. And checked on us several times throughout our time there. I believe this is a family business that works here together. FOOD: This is what we ordered.... Chips & Salsa -- Taste: Delicious, crisp chips that are fresh and the salsa is perfect heat (not too spicy). Portion size: Great, you can have refills if needed. Price: $0 (complementary) #23 Enchiladas Jalisco -- Taste: This was the daily special, it was three cheese enchiladas topped with red sauce and shredded pork served with Mexican rice and refried beans and it was delicious. The enchiladas have great taste and the shredded pork is tender and perfect. The rice was balanced in flavors and the refried beans were some of the best we have had! True authentic Mexican food! Portion size: Normal compared to other similar restaurants of this style. Price: $10. and change (but this was the special, it is normally $11. and change). OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paid $40. and change (w/o tip included) which felt comparable to similar restaurants of this style (we drink water so no beverages just entrees). Server was very kind, service was fast. It's not a big place so it may be a wait if they are busy. Atmosphere is wonderful, music is at a good level that you can actually have a conversation. Drinks and Mexican food yes please! Grabbing some margaritas is always what's good when you're craving that delicious flavor! Along with some yummy Mexican food you really can't go wrong so on this given day that's exactly what we did! Of the many different options it was all about the Ohio special for me as it had a chilireeno a tamale and a burrito all of which were yummy in their own way some were stuffed with chicken which was quite good as it had some flavor to it. Everything on the plate was awesome especially the chilli relleno it had an egg batter to it around the pepper that was stuffed with the cheesy goodness! Pretty much our food was yummy and the drinks hit the spot with all that in mind I can totally see myself coming back here again at some point for some Taco Monday action with some friends and yes I said Monday not the traditional Tuesday like I'm used to but hey that's awesome all that means is another day for me to go get tacos on! Just as good as I recalled! Back in 2007-2011 I ate here a ton as I was building a warehouse at a nearby production facility...always good for a food-coma inducing lunch! Fast forward to 2020 and COVID-9 times and my wife and I were in the neighborhood on a kayaking excursion. Lunchtime called and I suggested we return to my old haunts. She was duly impressed!!! We sat out on the patio during a glorious weekend weather day and complimentary chips and salsa were brought tableside along with our drink orders. Server was prompt and attentive throughout the meal. We ordered a side of homemade guacamole along with my favorite Mexican restaurant side...spicy white cheese dip. The guac was loaded with chunks of avocado, tomatoes and onions with just the right kick from the onions. The cheese dip was perfectly gooey / melty on this warm chips. For lunch, each of us ordered a taco salad in a tortilla shell...hers ground beef and mine shredded chicken. These bowls come loaded with the usual suspects...your protein, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and shredded cheese. Throw on some of that zippy salsa, a scoop of guacamole and maybe a drizzling of extra white cheese dip and that is a meal fit for a king (or queen). Only problem was...we ate BEFORE the kayak trip! Exceeded expectations. That's my biggest takeaway. And speaking of takeaways, I over-ordered with the idea of having a late-night snack, but there were no leftovers! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. My only knock on the dining experience was the apparent lack of alcohol in our pitcher of frozen strawberry margaritas. I wasn't looking to get drunk at dinner, but I would have liked a little kick in my drink. My favorite part of the restaurant was the peppers growing out front. Great restaurant! We came with our little 8 month old for lunch. They had a high chair for him but no changing table in the bathroom so the waiter made a spot for me to change him. Really Nice people, Accommodated a huge group, and I think everything we tried was terrific. Personally, I'd go with anything with their enchilada sauce on it. Went here for lunch to celebrate my Birthday! Well our waiter had a black mask with a smile on it that truly set the tone for our visit. He treated me like a queen and he was funny and so polite. I ordered the lunch fajitas and I always have variations and he got every one right!! The food was served piping hot and it was delicious! The mango frozen margarita was good too! My husband ordered the monster chimichanga and that was also wonderful. Then... my amazing waiter came over and sang Happy Birthday with other staff! To be perfectly honest, if I could give less than 1 Star, I would. A group of 6 of us were staying at Kalahari for a bachelorette weekend. The bride wanted to get out of Kalahari for a dinner, so upon checking Yelp, we decided to go with Costa Azul due to the 4.5 star ratings and good reviews. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and given chips and salsa. The chips were very stale and basically not edible. So due to that, and the fact that it is not free refills on chips and salsa, we did not eat them. They took our orders for drinks and we decided on two frozen pitchers of margaritas. (Most Mexican restaurants, you really get far with these, as you can definitely taste the tequila in them.) However, we could not taste any alcohol at all. So we were highly disappointed in the expensive frozen Kool-Aids that we purchased. When receiving our food, the portions were very small for what you usually receive at a typical Mexican restaurant. The descriptions listed for the food, was not what we received. The descriptions stated the quesadilla supreme stated it would have cheese, peppers, etc. However, all of our food arrived very plain, no cheese, no peppers, just meat. About half way through our meal, one of the girls, very abruptly stopped eating, and proceeded to pull multiple strands of hair from her food..which she was in the process of chewing. This ended with the rest of us to stop eating and leave almost half of our entrees untouched. The server did not stop by once to ask how the food was, and upon seeing the 6 of us eat only half of our food, she did not inquire if we enjoyed our meals or if there was anything she could do. We received the bill which I went to the counter to pay, and the two women asked how everything was which I replied, "Well, one girl discovered a few strands of hair in her food and the margaritas did not taste like they had any alcohol in them at all, so we were disappointed." The two women began to speak to each other in Spanish and did not reply to my statement or apologize. I would suggest to others to avoid this restaurant if you are looking for good margaritas, good food and good customer service. If those three things don't matter to you, then you have found your place! read more

I will never spend my money there again! I ordered "lunch fajitas " and got about 2teaspoons of fajitas not even enough for a single taco! Menu said lunch is served till 3pm, I ordered at 2:55pm and made sure the waiter knew that, when the bill came I was charged the higher price! Waiter said that it's how the register is set up and declined to give me credit and on top of that, they "charged" a credit card convenience %! This is actually an overcharge that credit card companies do not support! The mgr was extremely rude and unprofessional! Do not waste your $$! U can make better food at home! read more

This is my family's stopping point to eat after a long day at Cedar Point. Ive only been here twice now but it's better than your typical mexican place. I ordered the Ohio Special, #36. It was a HUGE plate of food! We also ordered guacamole, queso, chips and salsa for the table and all were great. The guacamole could've been bigger and better, but it was ok. I would give this place four stars for pretty tasty texmex fare. I like the chimichangas and especially the Guadalajara Special which is a big plate of different items and toppings covered in queso. However they offer coupons through town money saver, one of which is 5 bucks off 35 dollars purchase. They are available on a monthly flyer that is delivered to our home and if you google costa azul you also find online printable versions through the official town money saver website, which costa azul pays to advertise through coupons. I bring my family in and the server says that his boss wont accept printed coupons and he can do nothing about it. He would not budge when I told him they are from the official advertising service costa azul authorizes and false advertising is flat out illegal. I left angry at this sketchy policy. 5 dollars is not worth being angry for a long time but it is totally worth leaving a one star review for poor customer service. Our family wont be returning to costa azul even though we live right down the street. TBH Taco Bell is better overall. read more

Most of the reviews stated horrible service but I noticed that the place was always busy and it was 9 PM after a day at cedar point so what the heck. I knew it would be bad the moment I tasted the salsa. Bland, even salt and pepper didn't do it justice and to think it is an up charge of $1.75 for a refill, as if anyone would want more! All 3 entrees were soggy, my daughter didn't eat hers and the service was non existent. Finally when I was ready to go another waiter went to look for our server only to report she was no where to be found! Before we even got the check my guests were talking about going to McDonald's! We ate at Costa Azul after a trip to Kalahari and we were delighted with how delicious the food was. They start the table off with fresh corn chips and fresh house made salsa that has a slight spice to it. I had the Seafood Burrito (#70), my wife had the Chalupa and Taco (#??) and we both cleaned our plates! All of the ingredients were fresh and the entree's were a really good value. Kids meal's were incredibly priced at $4.50 at the time of review. We will be back again when in the area. P.S. Beverages are Pepsi products (superior). read more

Holy cow. Where do I start? Ok, how about the beginning? After driving for 8 hours, we stopped in the great little town of Huron, OH. We had a room secured at the Comfort Inn. With some time to kill, we made our way to Nickel Plate beach. Interesting side note, it is a pretty great place. We are huge fans of Mexican food and culture, particularly margaritas and guacamole, so my wonderful wife Catherine located Costa Azul on Yelp. It was closer to the beach than a higher-rated restaurant with more reviews. After reading a couple nice reviews, we decided to take a chance. It was 7:20 on a Sunday evening. When we got there there was a couple of parties waiting to be seated. Hmmm. This is good or bad. We really didn't want to wait, but perhaps this was indicative of food worth waiting for. Since we had been at the beach, it seemed to be a good idea to wash up a bit prior to stuffing our faces full of chips. Upon making our way to the restroom, we noticed there where numerous empty tables in need of bussing. Hmmm. A couple more groups entered the establishment after us. When one of the clearly 'local' folks got seated prior to us, we began looking on Yelp for anyplace close that might better serve our needs. Fortunately, or unfortunately, we were seated immediately after. Once seated, we noticed that some of the unbussed tables we had previously noted were still in the same sorry state. Perhaps multiple workers had called in sick, and they were seriously understaffed? We ordered a pitcher of margaritas, guacamole, and cheese dip. The margaritas were the same as any non-descript Mexican restaurant. Seemingly a mix served out of those old fashioned drink machines you used to see in convenience stores. After ordering our meal, we patiently waited for our dips. Oddly enough, our meals arrived prior to our guacamole and cheese dip. Sigh. We were told that they had to make a new batch of guacamole. So good news, it was really fresh. I had ordered the 'Costa Azul Tostitos' which were described as a crab cake type of appetizer. Sounded fantastic, and unusual, so I was pumped to try it. Unfortunately, our server evidently had stopped listening to me as soon as I said 'Costa Azul...' because what was delivered to me was the 'Costa Azul Fajitas.' I explained that was not what I had ordered. They then argued with me. The fajitas looked pretty damn good anyway, so I took them instead of my original order. And indeed, they were really good. When we explained that we were used to getting our appetizers prior to the meal, that really was of no concern to anyone but us. Kind of disappointing actually. We try to avoid chains and franchises as much as possible. Local place are the best. A wise man once told us the same, and he added, "You May get a great meal, You may get a lousy meal. But, either way, it will be memorable. " You know what? That has always proven to be true. Take that as you will. read more

We rented a house through AirBNB that was just around the corner from this place, and on our last night in town we were all craving Mexican food, so we ordered take-out. It was ready in a reasonable amount of time, and the staff were very friendly when I arrived. However, the food was just average (not bad, but not great). I read some reviews saying it was the "best Mexican food ever", and I can only think those individuals have never had really good Mexican food. Great service here! I loved the Wet Burrito and we also enjoyed the Fajita Quesadilla. Everything is fresh. The people who run the restaurant are kind, engaging, and make you feel right at home. We were on our vacation and this place was packed as we drove passed. We couldn't wait to try. I was so disappointed. The tacos were very bland. They had no taste what so ever. We had ordered a lot of tacos. We ordered different types of tacos to try. Not one taco i can say tasted good. The burritos were also horrible. The sauce on top tasted like they drizzled it from a can. I'm so disappointed. There was no taste to the items at all. From the tacos to the burritos.
