The J Bistro has become a regular stop for us when we travel to Sandusky from Texas. The spaghetti and meatballs are large enough to share, their recent off menu salad that came with blue and raspberries, strawberries, pomegranates, and brown sugar pecans with a vinaigrette was the perfect starter. Cameron, our server was exceptional, his timing was great and the bar was able to make mojitos!! We were able to make last minute reservations a couple days before Valentine's Day for a Friday night dinner for three and made our next reservation before we left the restaurant. We had a great time! When we arrived, the place was packed and the hostess let us know they couldn't seat us. We asked to speak with the manager, and the General Manager, Susan, came over and kindly got us a table--we were so grateful. The food was absolutely delicious, packed with flavor in every bite. Excellent. I must confess I'm not a fan of polenta, but I'm a fan of scallops, so when I saw in their menu a dish of seared scallops sitting on polenta, my love for the scallops took priority. The dish was excellent, the polenta was soft and creamy, really enjoyable. My friend tried their fillet mignon and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Their wine list is limited but complete enough you can definitely find something you would like. The service was great and the atmosphere was more on the quiet side. Solid dinner choice. read more

I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived, they did not have our table prepared and sat us at a 4 top but we had 5 people in our party. There were 2 tables seated for 6 people open. When I asked to move to a 6 top, I was told they were reserved. When we finished dinner, neither 6 top had been used. Was really disappointed to see how they treat clients who made plans to be there. The food is very good and consistent. We had been going at least twice a month for a couple years. We even recommended it to others. If you go, I would not suggest sitting on their patio. You will sit and sit and sit without service! They had seated us at the end of the patio. There were three waitresses waiting on only two other tables outside. Those two tables got all the attention. We took it as a bad sign. We left. We have been loyal customers for two years. We deserved better treatment than this. We will not go back. read more

We've been here before and it was pretty good, but we went last night and they discontinued their bread service. That was one of the things we loved and they don't have it anymore. Food wasn't that great and it was $150 for 3 people. We only had one appetizer and entrees. That's a little crazy, so we probably won't be back. read more

My husband and I come here twice a year. We live 40 minutes east of Cleveland. It's the half way spot to meet our friends from Toledo for a wonderful dinner. If I could give this place 10000+ stars, I WOULD!! This place is an absolute gem! Not only is the food AMAZING but the service is IMPECCABLE. We took a spontaneous trip to Ohio for my daughter's birthday weekend so she could visit Cedar Point, and we found J Bistro after a quick Yelp search. The reviews were so good, so we figured we'd give it a try. We dropped in on a Thursday night and the place pretty empty. There is street parking and also an adjacent lot. We walked in and were immediately impressed by how classy the place was. It definitely has an "old school" vibe - the decor is all oak and very upscale. I was worried they would frown upon my rambunctious 3 year old, but the staff was so nice and they even had a kids meal and sippy cups! So convenient for a young family who wants to eat out at a nice place and has to bring the whole circus with them We were sat in a cozy bench-type table and our waitress, Linsley, brought us bread and it was SO WARM AND SO SOFT. It came with this olive oil, vinaigrette and parm concoction but we didn't even need it - the bread is a star on its own. We devoured it immediately. Our drinks were ON POINT. My husband had the new old fashioned and I had the white cosmo. Excellently balanced and delicious. We ordered the beet salad to share (try it - the pistachios are a game changer!) and the lobster and asparagus cheese dip. All of it was SUPERB. But the entrees were just *chefs kiss*. I had the stuffed chicken with sausage stuffing, my husband had the ribeye and my dad had the shrimp and lobster risotto. The chicken was juicy and tender. I loved the broccolini that came with it and the sour cream and chive mashed potatoes had me drooling. The ribeye was perfect. But my dad's risotto stole the show!! It was chock full of shrimp and the lobster is served ON TOP!! It was meaty, juicy, and soooo incredible. We couldn't stop raving about it. When our waitress, Linsley, found out it was our daughter's birthday, she brought her the flourless chocolate cake with a little candle - on the house Just the sweetest gesture and it meant so much to us! Overall, we will visit this place EVERY SINGLE TIME we come to Cedar Point and will tell all of our friends/family about it. This place is phenomenal and so worth the money. This was our second time visiting J Bistro -- a fact we didn't recall until we sat down at the same table as a few years ago (we were visiting)! We made a reservation, but being off-season and early, it wasn't necessary. The ambiance was dressy without being fussy and the bar was busy with a steady supply of visitors. Although we walked from our rental condo, we noticed most guests simply parked using the ample street parking. The meal and wine were a real treat: table bread and olive oil, squash salad (split between us), a magnificently prepared pork chop with seasonal vegetables, and a decadent flourless chocolate cake (which we also split). Our wine was a nicely matched Pinot Noir from Oregon. The service was incredibly kind, attentive, and never rushed while the total price was very reasonable ($135 including a bottle of wine). read more

I really enjoyed the cup of French onion soup while my husband enjoyed fresh house salad topped with shrimp and mandarin oranges as a starter. Popular entrée dishes at J Bistro Downtown include the grilled pork chop with bourbon mashed sweet potatoes, or the Angus center-cut filet mignon with garlic cheddar mashed potatoes. Another recommendation for the vegetarian conscious guest is roasted vegetable pappardelle pasta with summery zucchini, squash, mushrooms and asparagus in a light pesto sauce. Oh my gosh this place is great. The food is so yummy, I mean I day dream about my favorite dishes. Don't get me started on dessert. I had their flourless chocolate cake it was so delicious . I ordered one to go one day and made it last for 3 days. It was so good . So definitely give this place a try. I even super recommend the grilled chicken with ratatouille, that sits on top of polenta. Most people don't order healthy grilled chicken. Throw that idea out the window. It's delicious, I love it. Coming from out of town with my best friend, his wife, and three young children to enjoy the end of season at Cedar Point, J Bistro appeared to offer a welcome, slightly higher-end respite from a myriad of pizza and wing joints. J Bistro offers a mixed experience that could be much better by smoothing out the rough edges. Here's what I noted: -I picked the restaurant based on the elevated menu that still offered kid's choices. Despite the kids menu, the restaurant offered no high chairs (wow) and no kid-friendly glasses (bigger wow). I did not expect waitstaff to seriously suggest that a three year old drink from stemmed glassware, yet that was what was presented. The waitress did eventually find some plastic disposable cups (but not enough to cover all little ones). - Wildly overpriced for small portions. I selected the $28 "salmon and shrimp" which offered a minuscule filet of salmon and three smaller tail-on shrimp. While the flavors and presentation were good, this dish and others could be priced down 20% and still feel high. -waitstaff where are you? At times it seemed that we were the only restaurant guests and our waitress the only staff. The restaurant did not seat additional guests who arrived after we were seated. This may be related to waitstaff or kitchen staffing trouble (a reality in 2021 as we all know) yet each step of our order took an inordinate amount of time. Bread did not come out until the entrees did, and,sitting tucked behind a wall at the front of the restaurant, our group felt somewhat forgotten for portions of the evening. Our waitress was friendly and attentive during her rounds however. -Desserts were excellent and well presented- but again, given the proximity to the park and the kids menu, some kid friendly options would have been huge. Gourmet ice cream, apple crisp etc- things a kid understands- would have made that end of night segment easier to navigate. Overall this restaurant is in a pretty and well lit space, and the chef seemed to be competent and create good dishes. The pricing and service need some adjusting, or perhaps we just unfortunately picked an evening (although it was Friday night!) that was less than their A game. Two stars. read more

I can't express just how amazing this place and its staff are! Yesterday we ended up on the patio of this amazing restaurant as a place to get food before heading down to the waterfront for the total eclipse, but ended up staying for the eclipse bc our server, Lyn, and the food were just too amazing to leave. Lyn was wonderfully attentive & accommodating and totally made the experience that much more enjoyable. She is truly amazing! The food was also fabulous and the patio seating could not have been a more perfect place to view the eclipse. In addition to great service and food, Susie, the manager, was so thoughtful and bought 200 hundred eclipse viewing glasses to give out to her staff and anyone who may not have been prepared and brought their own. The restaurant also set up a cute eclipse photo backdrop with a stage for people to take photos to commemorate the amazing astronomical event. All to say, this restaurant truly went above and beyond to make this already incredible moment in time even more fantastic & memorable. I cannot thank them enough! I stopped here on my way to Cleveland to fly home. Parking was easy to find in the free garage right across the street. I was the first one in the door as it was 11:30 and I was starving! I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc and the flatbread. The wine was crisp and cold and perfect for a hot day. The flatbread was crispy like a cracker, with fresh mozzarella, basil, roasted tomatoes, and a balsamic glaze. It was so delicious I ate the whole thing, even though I was full! I really recommend this adorable restaurant. It was clear during my visit that there are a lot of regulars who the staff knew by name. The neighborhood is adorable with plenty of free parking and a quaint view from the front windows. read more

Me and my girlfriend came here after a long day at cedar point so we were looking for a quieter place to get some food. This restaurant definitely fits the bill. We were seated out on the patio where a they had someone playing a romantic guitar solo the entire time. Not too loud but soft which and added to the ambirnce. For drinks I had a a very bitter berry hibiscus which I was dissapointed by since it wasnt particularly refreshing. The actual food started with BBQ Salmon and Shrimp which I was very impressed by. The BBQ sauce was fantastic taste and the seafood was extremely fresh. I believe it was wood grilled salmon which was well done. The meal was actually quite artistically set up as well and I couldnt help but take a picture. Definitely the highlight of the meal for me. For desert we got the peanut butter cheesecake which is my girlfriends favorite type of cheesecake and nobody ever has it. It was solid and quite crumbly which is always good. read more
