Was in town for a special event and stopped into Firelands for a quick drink and bite before evening plans. The vibe was a bit different than what I was expecting as we were expecting a traditional vineyard but that was not really the case. It was more casual then expected. The place is fairly big and the night we went they had live music in the entrance area. They had a patio but limited seating and most of it was covered and half uncovered. The service was very slow. We ordered wine flights as well as bruschetta and bread/oil. It took a very long time to come out and had to go find our waiter to ask about the wait as we were a large party. The waiter was super apologetic and kind and gave complimentary chips and a cake slice which was nice. The limoncello cake slice tasted a bit artificial but I appreciated the waiter giving it to us, but would not order it again off the menu. The wine was delicious so I would say to go for the wine if you go for anything. The food was simple and basic but nothing to complain about as we just got bread/oil as well as bruschetta. It feels simple and a bit thrown together however, the pizzas that were coming out did look very good so I would try to opt for one of those. The shareables were a decent size for the price and I can appreciate them not charging a super high amount for shareables as some wineries do. Overall, Firelands Winery was a good experience and I would come back for the wine and maybe some live music if I am in the area. read more

So we were driving around and ended up here. It is a winery but does have a limited menu and I am not really sure that they are comfortable serving food. I did ask the person if they serve food. She told us yes, when we are ready we need to order "at the bar." Keep in mind, there was a family of four and us. Actually the food was quite tasty. My husband had the burger and I had the pesto chicken sandwich. Both came with chips. If you are ordering wine, you get nice glasses. Pop or water come in plastic cups. And it is canned pop. I was in town w for work and wasn't aware of what to do. After a search, I saw the area had several wineries. Since this wasn't expected, I decided to check one out for a tasting. Firelands seems to be one of the larger and older wineries. They did their tastings at a table at their restaurant because of Covid precautions. This made the experience very different than my expectations. It felt more like having a drink at a restaurant as opposed to a tasting where you learn about the wine. You have to choose which flight you want to try, which again made it more like having a drink than a tasting. The staff didn't tell you about the wines because they were more servers. The restaurant seemed like the food would be good, but ultimately I was disappointed in the tasting. If you're looking for lunch/dinner or a place to grab a drink with friends, then this seems like a good place, but it wasn't what I expected when visiting a new winery. read more

Traveling from Cincinnati, Ohio and staying in Huron for a couple of days for vacation. My Mr and I was looking for a dog friendly Winery. We called many places and this place was it. Decided to try it out and was super impressed. If you want to dine in on the outside patio, you have to walk in the winery and let them know. Plenty of seating that honors that 6 foot rule and staff takes extra precautions to practice safety. Our section of the patio was perfect. Shaded and plenty of room. Our Frenchie was content. We wanted to experience the whole winery. So we decided to get flights. Domestic White $4.00 Barrel Select Chardonnay Pinot Grigio Riesling Traminette Domestic Red $4.00 Pinot Noir Dolcetto Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Added Cabernet Franc and Malbec for 1.00 each. My faves was the Malbec and Cabernet Franc that we ended up getting bottles to take home plus the Sparking Brut. We wanted to stay for awhile and got two glasses. I enjoyed the Malbec and my Mr got the Pinot Noir. We got hungry and wanted to try their Pizzas (they also serve cheese trays and small bites) since it looked so good. We ended up getting the Margherita Pizza drizzled with Balsamic glaze. So delish. For dessert we thought we would get a Sample of Ice Wine tasting 3.75. That just hit the spot! I went inside and explored. They have a wine station and a gift section of TShirts and accessories. My Mr got me a wine tank and coaster. Great place to go if you're in the Sandusky area. In Covid times, the outdoor seating is a great way to be cautious and still enjoy some time out. The indoor area was very clearly marked to ensure appropriate distancing. They often have live music set up and the seating is very comfortable and spaced out. We had a great experience at Firelands Winery last night dining on their spacious patio. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable and the food delicious. Before my lady and I came to Huron, OH, I promised I'd take her to a local winery. After doing a little research, I happened upon this one, a mere 15 minutes away from where we are staying. So we decided to check it out. A promise is a promise, right? And I'm glad we choose this one too! Fantastic experience all around! I called before we left to make sure it was open and that they were dog-friendly. They said they're open until 9pm and that dogs are welcomed on the lower patio. That was cool with us, so we went. The place itself is very open and spacious with the vineyards all around it. All seating is done by a hostess inside, including patio seating, which is understandable in our current climate of COVID-19. After we got our seats, the hostess explained all the menus and how the wine flights worked, which we were definitely up for some wine flights, of which they had a great variety of options. The wine list was pretty impressive and mostly made on site (some were imported from Italy). They also offer cheese trays featuring local cheeses, garlic knots, and pizzas. We opted for their domestic white flight (barrel select Chardonnay, pinot grigio, riesling, and traminette) and domestic red flight (pinot noir, dolcetta, Cabernet Sauvignon, and merlot). We also asked for a taste of their Cabernet franc and malbec. All the wines were very tasty! There wasn't a single one we didn't like. Though after a few tastes, we decided to have a glass of wine each, and a pizza because we were both a little hungry. So my lady ordered a glass of malbec, I ordered a pinot noir (loved the peppery notes on it), and we split a margherita pizza. The pizza was delicious too and paired well with both wines. After we were finished, I was curious about their ice wine, so we asked for a taste. It was definitely rich and sweet but also very good. I think it topped off our experience. We enjoy the wines so much that we scored a few bottles before leaving (a Cabernet franc, a malbec, and a brut champagne). I also got a couple wine coasters (because they look like flip flops) and a tank top for my lady. I could easily see us going back here again. We had a family girls trip and visited Huron for the weekend! And what's a girls weekend without wine! We popped in on a Saturday afternoon and decided to forgo the winery tour and skip straight to tasting flights. They have a large screen with flight options as well as a build your own option. There were only two ladies on staff at the time and the place was pretty busy-- I felt bad that our group of 9 was crowding the bar but they handled it well. I did feel that little to no explanation or suggestions were given. I would've loved to hear a bit about the different wines before choosing sweet verses savory. None the less, the wines were great! We tried a few different flights before choosing some bottles for the table. They also offer cheese boards and light bites too! You could easily get full from a few of the appetizer options and some wine but we shared a few cheese boards amongst the 8 of us with assorted cheeses, meats, grapes and apples to compliment the wines we chose. The outdoor seating area was perfect for our August afternoon and there was plenty of seating for our large party. They also have an indoor dining room for all year tasting. They had a bocce course, checkers, Jenga and a few other games to play as well! I did find it strange that there was not a water station outside or even a pitcher option for the tables. Wine + 90 degrees = drunk in 60 seconds without some water to dilute the alcohol! They do, however, have water glasses available inside. Just a bit annoyed to keep running back and forth for glasses. Overall it was a cute winery and a great afternoon activity! Would for sure visit again the next time I am in town! P.S. though it is a Winery, the place is totally kid friendly. Drove 90 minutes just for this Winery and they refused to let me sample/taste wine off the menu. Even though I was directly ordering an item on the menu. I was told no you can only order our flights because they are too busy. Makes complete sense because ordering one sample/tasting of the flight takes much more time than pouring for samples in a flight. They were four of us, I was the driver and just wanted a taste. And again it was an item on the menu. They were four of us and the other three ordered for flights and we were going to order food. We do frequent wineries and enjoy leaving with a bottles from the winery we visit. I just don't get it. I did inform the manager on our way out of my experience. He seemed very apologetic. We went to Gideon Owen Winery and had the wine experience we were looking for. It was absolutely fantastic. Our waitress Emily, at Fireland Winery,was definitively not friendly or knowledgeable. My wife asked Elaine about the sugar in a couple of the wines and she did not know. All I can do is leave a review of my experience. When I go to a winery I usually expect nice views, good service, and a relaxing atmosphere, here you get nine of that. The atmosphere was awkward and weird, the restaurant felt dated. The service was subpar at best, extremely slow even though the restaurant was dead, and the servers where not very friendly. There isn't much of a view at all, no good outdoor seating and the inside of the restaurant has no windows. We went on a weekend in the evening and the restaurant was dead! We where seated close to the kitchen door and halfway through our visit we heard yelling coming from the kitchen, then a waitress stormed out screaming at some one in the kitchen about how horrible the management is, quit on the spot, and left the building yelling at people on her way out. No one came to our table to apologize for the disruption. Would not recommend this winery to anyone. read more

This winery is beautiful and stocked with delicious wines. The people were very welcoming and found us a space at the bar to taste some wines. They offered a choice of 6 dry or sweet wines to taste for $3. We tried the dry selections and were extremely impressed by their wines. The bar was busy and full on this Saturday at 4:45, so the service was a bit dodgy (we started with one person and ended up with another). They weren't very specific or detailed with their descriptions of the wines (like telling what flavors you should taste, how it's made, what it's made with or what it's good to pair with). All they said was, "This is the wine your tasting," then poured it and ran off. They give you some complimentary crackers to munch on. Each individual glass tasting was $.50. We loved the Firelands Cabernet and Merlot so we bought a glass and ordered a Caprese salad and a chicken pesto panini with kettle chips and a pickle. We went upstairs with our wine and sat in the lovely little dining area that had live music at the time (two men: guitarist and singer). A waitress brought over our appetizer and it was so refreshing and scrumptious. How can you beat the simplicity of fresh tomato, basil and mozzarella drizzled with olive oil. Yum! Then we got our sandwich and it was divine! I mean they only offer 4-5 appetizers and 3 panini dishes to eat at this place and the food was better than some restaurants! The chicken was juicy, the cheese was gooey and the pesto was great. The bread was perfectly toasted and I was one happy little girl. If only I wasn't flying home the next day I would have gotten some bottles. read more

Beautiful vineyard. I brought my mom here for wine tasting for her birthday in October. I have been to wine country (Sonoma and Napa) so I didn't really know what to expect. The interior was gorgeous. We sat at the bar and enjoyed being surrounded by the thousands of wine bottles. The staff was very knowledgable and attentive. The wine is reasonable priced and you can get a flight of tasting for $3-4. Make sure you try the ice wine! read more

If I could give half a star this would be 3 1/2. My husband and I spent a very pleasant half hour at this winery and came away with a few fairly nice local wines and a few even nicer imported ones. The worst experience I've ever had at a winery. The waitress dropped a glass and spilled wine all over one girl. She never apologized and they didn't do anything about it. We went to order another bottle of wine and the waitress told us per her manager we were cut off. Apparently we were to loud. The manager came to our table and told us she never cut us off. Such a great time! Went here on our recent trip to PC. Took the little wine 'tour' which is just a walk through their production areas with signs and cool displays. Then we hit the tasting area and paid $3 for tastings (boyfriend had dry, I had sweet), and had a few extra tastings. We tasted the pink Catawba, fifty-fifty, merlot, dolcetta, blackberry, ice wine, limoncello, raspberry Riesling, and lots more. It was a hazy afternoon. The ladies at the store were pistols, and a treat to chat with and learn from. They were very friendly and sassy and just the kind of people I like! They explain the wines, the grapes, the process, storage, pairings and anything else you'd want to know. Also: free crackers. Nuff said. My wife and I enjoy a good pizza and a glass of wine just like the next couple who might just be celebrating and anniversary and rediscovering our new normal while doing some venturing around Sandusky. I say with great bias that Angela and the crew we amazing and very thorough. The wines were unique and delightful but the show stopper for us was the pizza!!! I will never enjoy pizza again having spent but a little more than an hour enjoying the most well made dough I have ever had. And the garlic knots..... Made me give thanks all over again. When you walk in its a little overwhelming but just belly up to the tasting bar and the ladies will sort you out. They do samplers: 6 for 3 bucks. Good deal. You can try sweets or drys. Now, I don't claim to know anything about wine (take note overnight beer a·fi·ci·o·na·do's) but I tend do like sweet wines...I guess? They were all OK. The whites I liked better that the blush ones. $2.50 for generous wine tasting with wines for purchase that are reasonably inexpensive ($7-12). This is the second oldest winery in Ohio dating back to the 1800's. The servers were very pleasant and knowledgable. The building is quite nice and has portions dating back to the winery's founding. There is a seating area with couches or tables to enjoy a glass of wine. A must go winery! read more

The dry reds were awful. I think the Cabernet Sauvignon was bad, it tasted like cardboard. The tastings are inexpensive and everyone was friendly. They're putting in a kitchen with a huge pizza oven so might be a nice place to sit and enjoy wine. read more
