This was our first stop for some food while visiting the island. We sat out on the front deck which was shaded and nice even in the 80 degree weather. Our server with the purple glasses was so friendly and polite. I started with a Jameson espresso martini and Nate got a black and tan. The menu is typical Irish pub fare and we were really hungry so it was a bit hard to decide what to get - we ended up sharing the fish and chips (added an extra filet). The Irish touches everywhere were so fun and the bathroom is worth a stop (at least the women's was). The drinks were strong and good, and the food was pretty good - definitely needed salt but otherwise it did the trick. Some of the desserts we saw looked really tasty. We went to put in bay the first week of September last year. Very well taken care of establishment to the eye. It has an Irish feel and aesthetic and I honestly enjoyed my Hooley Smash burger especially since it was sitting in a pile of hooley cheese. The pretzel bun was delish and brought it all together. The buffalo wings were okay but nothing to rave about. Just no special flavor. We enjoyed our meal and had decent service but I did get the wrong entree at first with a very empty restaurant that day. We were a table of 4 with a child. read more

Three of us had lunch here on Sunday (Mothers Day). The ambiance is nice, the beer was good and service was good to great. The food was poor. Fish and chips--the whole pieces of fish tasted bad. Texas toast with sliced brisket was ok but floppy. The fries were not good at all. And it was pricey by Ohio standards (it is on a tourist resort island so what else would I expect?). We had a fantastic evening dining at Hooligans. The server was so welcoming and checked on us frequently. She even gave some great recommendations for us to try. We sat outside because it was beautiful out. My only complaint is that the 2 person table is incredibly small, especially if you get a bunch of food! I tried the Piggy Melt with no slaw. It was delicious!! I was in heaven. My husband got a burger with onion rings on the side. He said the onion rings were fantastic. Burger was a burger! We tried their Guinness beers split with another (I can't remember what it was called)! But mine was the Black and Gold, and my husbands was Black Velvet. I can't comment on the quality of the food as I never got serviced. We went there a couple days ago and the place was about half full. The hostess seated us promptly and gave us menus then we were completely forgotten about. We were seated up front close to the host stand so it's not like we were tucked away in a forgotten corner. Nobody ever came over despite trying to flag any server down. After about 25 minutes of sitting and waiting to have anyone acknowledge our existence we left. Delicious burger and homemade chips! Staff was all very friendly, attentive and the place was clean. Plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Even in the bathroom it smelled like cinnamon rolls! I had the bacon burger on a pretzel bun, very well seasoned, only disappointing thing was u got only 1 slice of bacon :( The chips were crispy, and tasted even better dipped in ranch! The BLT w/ egg was an awesome gooey mess that tasted delicious!! Around noon on a weekday, after the tourist season had come to an end, my wife and I decided to go out and see what might be open for lunch. Put-In-Bay is a pretty quiet place after the tourists leave, and those of us who come just to hang out in the peace sometimes have little choice as to where to eat. Luckily for us, Hooligans was open, so in we went. The restaurant is attractive and clean, and the servers are very friendly. The one complaint that I have about the environment is that the music was a little too loud. We were two of maybe six customers in the restaurant, and all of us were leaning toward our dining partners to hear what was being said because of the loud music. Other than that, the atmosphere of the restaurant was what I expect of an Irish pub -- warm and inviting, and a nice selection of food and whiskeys. The server told us that their pierogies were awesome, so I decided to order some. I also had a bowl of chili since it was a cool, windy day, and my wife had onion soup. We agreed that the pierogies were good, but not quite to the level of "awesome." I think I've made some at home that were just as good, if not better. The onion soup was good, and, even more importantly, hot. The chili was also good, but it was actually closer to room temperature. I figured that they had ladled it out of a vat from the refrigerator and warmed it in the microwave. It wasn't warmed for long enough. Would I go back? Since I don't live in the area, who knows if I ever will. But, theoretically, yes, I would go back. I like Irish pubs, and this one was nice. The people were nice. The food was good. I am normally not impressed with Irish pubs, because as in Ireland, the food is nothing special. Fortunately we discovered this gem when trying to find somewhere to watch The World Cup soccer match. They have loads of great beer and even flights if you want to sample some. The loaded nacho appetizer was fantastic! They use potatoes instead of traditional nacho chips and then load it with a brisket kind of beef, red peppers, lettuce and their special cheese. It is to die for and super filling, which is why we ended up just ordering the cheese plate instead of a meal. The cheese plate was presented really well. 4 kinds of cheese with various crackers, large group of tasty grapes, sweet walnuts, strawberries and a mustard dipping sauce. We loved it. We had several servers because we were there for hours and they were very attentive, as were the two managers who stopped by frequently. Give this place a chance! read more

Hooligan's always seems crowded and small, but if you can get a table, it's worth it. My meal was so good, it was exactly what I needed to accompany the spirits I imbibed. We started with a wonderful cheese plate- lots to choose from, plenty to share. I also had the reuben sandwich was messy, but I could still handle it. Delicious beef piled high with all the fixins. My favorite part was the Jamo-rita. It's a margarita made with Jameson. I usually do not drink Jameson, but it was so perfectly blended. I can't wait to go back for another! I'm waffling a bit here, because I kinda feel like it deserves 4 stars but not quite...maybe a half star and maybe I'm being picky. What's the minus? We shared the barbecue brisket sandwich, and it wasn't great. It was maybe ok and again, might be just me because I'm not a fan of barbecue in the first place, but the brisket wasn't cooked well and some was a bit tough. But that's it - otherwise I love this place. It has great ambiance, and looks like an Irish bar, with dark wood all over the place, but not dark inside...plenty of windows and lighting. The drinks were fine and I enjoyed the beers I drank - plenty of choices on tap, and served cold and fresh. And although the sandwich didn't do it for me, the chips they came with were great and their version of a french onion soup was outstanding. If they have it on the menu again, I'll just get a double order of that - really, really good and on a cold day it hit the spot. We will be back! read more

We came thinking it was opening weekend on put in bay and most places were closed. We thought this place looks nice to eat at. The atmosphere was on point however, the service and food were not good at all. We were one of 3 tables seated in the restaurant and we got water in plastic cups and ordered our food. The music was hip hop and not Irish. We got the fish and chips and the chips were good but the fish was very hard and tasted like frozen fish. My spouse got meatloaf sandwich and it was a thin slice of ground beef on a thin piece of toast. We also got Buffalo cauliflower where they didn't put the Buffalo sauce on it and it was on the side and cauliflower again tasted like frozen vegetables. Nothing fresh except the chips. Worse food we have ever tasted at a Irish restaurant or any other type of restaurant. I would not recommend this place. read more

I used to love Hooligans, great bar on a great island. However, I visited last weekend and was absolutely appalled by the lack of customer service by Danielle (a server and a supposed manager) who denied service to my girlfriend due to her "being intoxicated" after having had one beer. Although I completely understand the necessity to keep patrons on the island safe, the way this was handled was extremely inappropriate. The server embarrassed my table with her statements, and the manager then came to our table and said she knew her staff was wrong but she had to stand behind her. Disappointing to say the least, my next island trip will likely not include a stop at hooligans. read more

I think they were either drawn to my blood or to the delicious food. Maybe both. I think they had a crush on me. This was late August, summer, so they were out in full force. I got worried at first. We ordered two drinks, and the bartender immediately cashed us out without asking. We planned on staying awhile, it's such a beautiful bar and we were going to order food. Very typical Irish pub with your regular ass pub fare. It reminded me of every other Irish pub that I've been to. Dark woods, a little bit of stained glass, the freshly puked-on by a leprechaun look. Service was pretty excellent considering our party of 12 loudmouthed drunkards. We even had car bombs with our meals. Our server was super friendly and sweet as pie. The reuben was pretty standard.
