McCarthy's is a corner lot staple in downtown PC. I have been coming here with my Army friends for years when we are in the area for training at Camp Perry. They have a very large selection of adult beverages. On my most recent visit, I tried a banana flavored cider and it was delicious. My most recent meal was the shepherds pie over fries. It was a lot of food. I found it to be way too salty so I don't think I would order it again but their shepherds pie on its own is super good. The service is excellent. I have always had a good experience here even if the food isn't always top notch. I will be back again next year! read more

Visiting the area and decided to check out this Irish pub. Place was not busy on a Monday night and had a nice atmosphere. Friday afternoon on Labor Day weekend. The place was near empty. Why? Food was just ok but over priced. Wine was way over priced. We were at the bar and 3 foul mouthed drunks wandered in for drinks. One of the dining room waiters looked like an unmade bed. No shower, no hair brush etc. read more

I had a great perch sandwich and the service is friendly. But on the menu is a car bomb burger. Personally I find that offensive and in Ireland saying things like that is not acceptable. We were in town for the New Year's Eve celebration and needed a place to eat and get warm. This was the perfect spot. The place is huge. Very spacious. It has a bar and a separate restaurant. The service here was good and they have a wide selection of pub style food. Some of which are unique. I went with the beef and bacon wrapped hot dog. It was delicious. The fries are seasoned and were good too. They also have something going on there. It looked like they were having a 1920s costume contest when we were there. They had kid activities during the day and happy hour and daily specials as well. It is an Irish pub, so of course they have a wide range of beer and cocktails. I can speak from experience when I say they have a mean Bloody Mary. In a small town where many bars and restaurants are seasonal, this place is a constant. It is located in the heart of downtown and an excellent place to catch a bite to eat and an adult beverage. If you are in or going through Port Clinton, this place is definitely worth checking out. read more

There were 5 members in our party, up from Dayton for fishing. I thought I'd researched pretty good and McCarthys was also referred to one of us but we were all disappointed! I always love to try a Rueben when on the menu and the menu picture represented the Rueben as an awesome sandwich but was so disappointed!!! The meat was sparse and the flavor was ok at most. Would not recommend to a Rueben lover. Our daughter in law also was very disappointed in her Rueben. My brother said the perch was ok. My husband said his chicken was ok, nothing exciting. The homemade chips actually "Needed" the sauce for flavor, and that had to be purchased extra. Our son ordered the grilled cheese burger. He said it was ok but felt the pizza place across the street that they ate at the previous night, was better than McCarthys. The best part of our meal for me, was the "Shepherd's Pie" loaded fries. I was looking for a wow factor from McCarthys and was really disappointed. I took photos for social media but haven't posted yet. I didn't even bother tagging us at the restaurant. Our waitress was nice. I did give her my thoughts on the sandwich lacking meat. She said she was sorry, that's it. Hubby and I visited McCarthys on a slow Sunday evening. We were helped to find a comfortable booth on the restaurant side and were greeted soon by our waitress. We ordered the poutine to start. It had excellent gravy, chunks of cheese curds, but cold fries. It could have been so great if the fries had just been hot. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and hubby ordered a burger (fatty something). Both the Rueben and the burger were fantastic. They were more than enough food and we both took half of our dinner home! Decor was great and they were actually playing Celtic music. Coming back from Cleveland we decided to stop on Port Clinton to grab some lunch and we found this little place. Our bartender was nice and quickly set us up with drinks. I had a Smithwick's and my wife had a margarita, she said that the margarita was great. We ordered the Scotch eggs as an appetizer since we had never had them before. It's a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and then covered in bread crumbs and deep fried. You get three of them and they are cut in to quarters when they come out. They are served with a chipotle ranch dip. These eggs are awesome, I could see them for breakfast, the chipotle dip was a nice surprise in itself. My wife ordered the salmon BLT with the bar made potato chips. It was a nice sized sandwich, she loved it. The chips were awesome! I ordered the Rueben like I always do at an Irish Pub. It had great flavor, but it was cold. It wasn't very busy inside, so I was surprised that it was cold. read more

I'm very happy that I stopped here, since they were only 3 stars so I questioned if I should. Our server was young man name Matt and he did a fantastic job. Our food was absolutely delicious, we really liked the spicy garlic wings and the wings were crispy on the outside but juicy in the middle. This is a strong 2.5-star review. I ordered fish & chips (the chips are indeed chips, not fries) ... so I upgraded to tots. Lots of tots. The tots were the star of the meal, followed by the cole slaw. For the price, the fish portion size struck me as a tad stingy. For me, the filet was a tad over-breaded and over-cooked. Thick breading, crusty/crunchy is not what I was expecting. My buddy ordered a burger that he described as an average, frozen patty probably sourced from Sysco or GFS. Bun? Nothing special. Fries? Again, nothing special. On the plus side of the ledger: - Clean - Good service - Hot food, hot. - Cold food, cold. - WiFi? I forget, but I think "not available." Good food, laid back pub style atmosphere. Really enjoyable lunch. Madison salad a great choice-side salad portion was huge. Chili just ok, said it was homemade but nothing special. My friend loved the corned beef and cabbage. Baby bakers( little potatoes) are a must as a side. Ladies room was modern and clean, although toilet was ridiculously low. Can I imagine that anyone with bad knees would enjoy the lowness even with the grab bar. Ok the downside. our waitress was clueless on the menu. Every food question we asked she couldn't answer. She was nice enough but had such a nonchalant attitude that it was off putting. They were fairly busy on a Labor Day Saturday and she made it a point to tell us only one cook in the kitchen. My husband and I have been coming here for years. The food is always great and the staff is always helpful and friendly(we had Maygen today ). We miss the AMAZING sampler platter they used to carry! Not much open at 8:30 or so on a Monday night in Port Clinton, but this place was. Not busy in my opinion, but our waitress forgot about us. I had to retrieve ketchup, tartar sauce, silverware, and napkins for our table after receiving my food and it getting cold. She never did bring the cole slaw for any of us. By the time she remembered to check on us, I was over this place and didn't care. When I told her I had to get everything, she didn't apologize. Tartar sauce was very good. Perch was OK. Fries, ehh.... I had an unsweetened ice tea and it was good. Location is good. The restaurant seemed clean, though I did not use the restroom. The bartender that helped me with all that I was missing was very helpful. We sat outside and a speaker was over our table. It was too loud. Not a fan after one visit, but there were other Irish dishes I wanted to try from the menu. I am not often in Port Clinton, so I probably will not get a chance to try this place again.
