Lovely coffee shop. Came in for a coffee and enjoyed a muffin and cinnamon roll also. I had the drip raspberry crème brûlée coffee with the cinnamon roll. The outside was a bit dry, but the inside was much nicer. My husband had a latte and an orange cranberry muffin. His muffin was very moist inside. The team had quick service. It wasn't clear what all the coffee options are but they seemed to have the ability to accommodate just about anything. I opted for simple as I'm not much of a coffee connoisseur. Hahaha. We sat outside as it was a lovely morning with a great breeze. This is right on the corner next to the veterans park and across the street from the post office. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to have a restroom. Highly recommend for the coffee and sweets P.s; noticed some folks had a croissant sandwich while we were enjoying our coffee outside. We came out to Port Clinton for my cousins wedding and stopped at this cute coffee shop. The staff was so wonderful and kind. I got a pumpkin cream cold brew and we tried the chocolate cream cheese and banana nut muffins. Everything was great! We came back the next morning for a breakfast bagel, bagel with cream cheese and more coffee. The bagels are nice and fluffy. You can tell everything is fresh. The employees are always so friendly here and they are creative with their seasonal specials. Their quiche is to die for! Great breakfast sandwiches and pastry choices. I don't recommend the avocado toast, they do not use fresh avocado. The last time I ordered a drink they forgot to ask if I wanted it hot or iced (and I forgot to specify). It was a bit too sugary for my preference and honestly pricey at nearly $9 for a large pumpkin pie chai latte with almond milk. I got the Blueberry Cobbler which they said was a latte with blueberry and I got it iced. It was okay. Not the best coffee I had ever had, but not the worst. I didn't even really taste the blueberry. The girl at the cash register wasn't very nice and seemed very impatient. I hadn't been here before and I needed to look and I asked a few questions but she just seemed put out. They don't have coffee bread, which is fine, but I felt too pressured by her to even consider the other things they had. I would try it again because I saw they use the Chai Tea Concentrate that I enjoy (and also that bucks uses). I would have gotten that, but I didn't even see it because I felt so pressured. It was very clean and it was comfortable with adequate seating. It was very nice. Wish the cashier/barista had been nicer. read more

Went twice while we were in town for Thanksgiving. First time was before Thanksgiving. And I got the Turkey Trot latte. 2nd time was after Thanksgiving and I got to get the Sleigh Ride Mocha. We always visit Coffee Express (usually several times) when visiting family in the Port Clinton area. It can get a little crowded as it's a smaller shop but it's worth the wait. Their specialty drinks, such as the Redwing Mocha (my favorite) are amazing, and the breakfast sandwiches are excellent. The staff are friendly and work hard to keep everything moving quickly. They were totally slammed on our last visit but they pushed through and kept serving everything with smiles. read more

I love a small-owned, independent coffee shop. Love it. This place checks all the boxes. There is street parking but also some spots in the back. I was so tempted by the sweets in the glass display case. All of them looked amazing. Big, fresh, and lots of options. They have lots of drip coffee options and many of them are flavored coffee. I love coffee that is flavored by the beans (not syrup). I can't remember the flavor but it was similar to an Irish cream. It was so tasty. Truly made my drive out of Port Clinton so nice. I wish I could give half star ratings because I would give this place a solid 3.5 stars. My boyfriend's family recommended this place to us for breakfast and they especially enjoyed the coffee so we had to check it out for ourselves. It appears to be in a cute little old home and it is a tiny TINY coffee shop/cafe. It's the kind of local place that's lacking in my hometown and I was super excited to try it. There's no dining in this place currently, we went around lunch time and it was PACKED! The line was out the door and there wasn't much room in the line. At least masks are still required at this shop since it was packed so tightly together! I explained that it was our first time and we wanted iced coffees, so basically they could make any coffee drink over ice or blended like a frappe. We each got specialty lattes over ice with oat milk. The flavors were good, they definitely weren't the best coffees I've ever had, but they did the trick on a hot day. We also tried two sandwiches, one that had some sort of ham with a pineapple on a cheesy bread along with another bacon type sandwich that had a sweet spread on it which complemented the savory meat so nicely! They were served deli style with a pickle and chips which was a nice touch. We decided to eat on their patio, they have cute little benches on the side and they bring the food and drinks right out to you!! The iced coffee was served in these weird cups that looked like something you would get at an ice cream store, it was a little off-putting. I would've thought they would've used the see-through plastic cups that they use for their blended beverages. The food was also in to-go styrofoam containers, but that's ok, it was easy to dispose of everything when we were finished eating. Overall, it was a good experience and definitely a solid breakfast/lunch option for the area. I think I would definitely go back at least for the food because those sandwiches were very good, but I'd personally probably skip the coffee next time because it's just not my taste. The staff was friendly and welcoming to everyone. I wish there was a better system in place for ordering because the line was pretty crazy, but they have limited space to work with. They have been in business a long time and I love the local coffee house concept. I'm happy we know about this place now and I'll be sure to spread the word to others that it's a nice local concept!! read more

This place is so great I feel like the simple name "Coffee Express" does it absolutely no justice. Some sort of fancy froufrou name seems much more befitting for this charming converted house that serves up super fresh yummy eats made with local ingredients. From an amazing assortment of delicious quiches to a totally loaded BLT with crispy bacon, superb lettuce and flavorful tomatoes, you just can't go wrong at CE. All menu items are legit, the prices are great (especially for such a huge summer touristy area), always fast service with a smile...and great coffee to boot (so my husband told me). Don't skip on CE when in/around Port Clinton. Highly recommend. :D A+! read more

Great little coffee shop located in the historic district of Port Clinton! The service is outstanding, as well as the variety of coffees on offer. I've never been to a cafe like it. They sell a large selection of delicious baked goods as well. When my fiancee and I visited, it was still morning, so we sampled a piece of spinach quiche...crispy crust done to perfection. Delicious! There's a nice patio to sit where you can soak up the sun and enjoy the scenery from the park across the street. Welp, guess what? Still inefficient! Made sure to go during a slow time so that I wouldn't have to wait. Well, not only did the cashier not write my drink ticket, which meant the two people behind me got their drinks before mine, the sandwich I ordered was wrong as well. I'm almost to the place where it's not worth it to keep coming back, no matter how good their coffee is. So disappointing to keep giving this place chance after chance and never come out feeling satisfied. Have downgraded my original rati from3 to 2 stars. Third Update: SO INEFFICIENT! It's extremely frustrating to see a coffee shop have such good food and coffee, but fail at running their floor. This morning I had to wait a half hour for a latte, a slice of pre-prepared quiche, and a breakfast sandwich- all while seeing people behind me get drinks, drinks be forgotten because they weren't written down, drinks made wrong- basically an uncontrolled circus. Again, this shop makes such good beverages and food, it's the only reason customers could tolerate being handled like this. But to mishandle how you operate the floor during a busy rush is a disservice to your customers, and your workers who are clearly trying their best just to keep their heads above water. Update: Unfortunately this shop's inefficiencies have not improved since my last visit. Aside from the same issues I listed in my first review below, this time my espresso beverage was only made after at least four other espresso beverages came up for people behind me in line simply because they don't write down their beverage orders. The only thing redeeming this shop is the quality food and coffee the owner selected to put in this cafe; but the quality is held held hostage by the service, while very polite and helpful, just falls so very short in making an easy experience for the customer. It's frustrating when just a few tweaks to the way they operate could go a long way in making this shop shine, but they seem reluctant to implement them. Original Review: This shop does indeed have excellent food and coffee; however they're efficiency would be greatly improved by simply writing drink order on tickets or cups. My drink was made wrong twice, and by the time it was re-made, the person in front of me still hadn't received their beverage. Baristas couldn't find the customers when they called out drinks, and spent a lot of time wandering the cafe just calling out drinks hoping someone would take it. Writing a name and/or a drink order on the cup directly could go a long way for this small coffee shop. Their quality makes up for it in the end, but you have to be willing to deal with inefficiencies. read more

I've been going there for a while, but as of late, I have found that I need double the time to get in and out, even when they are not busy. This place is really good -- tasty coffee drinks, amazing quiche, robust sandwiches -- but especially post-COVID restrictions, I think they're doing too much. They're the only coffee game in town, so there's always an absolutely enormous line & an even longer wait to get your food -- and even just a plain old black coffee. I think that, at least for now, Coffee Express would do better to limit their offerings in order to reduce long wait times for basic coffee drinks. read more
