Caramel Tres leches
Cheyenne M.

this bakery is pretty good. i had empanadas in the past and i enjoyed them. this time i had a caramel tres leches slice of cake. it was a pretty large piece and good price, a little under $5. other bakeries are SO expensive but this one tastes good and is a good price!

Wine Cake (Colombian Black Cake)

HOLY AREPAS! If you only read one line of this review, order an arepa. They are phenomenal. Familia Bakery is a bright, clean, and inviting Columbian bakery with all the bakery standards and tons of wonderful Columbian treats. We came for Christmas desserts but left with so much more! The bakery displays were beautiful, featuring a show piece of each item with the employee going to the back to box your order. It gave the bakery such a sleek look and I hope this is something they continue and was not just done for the opening. We ordered a wine cake (Columbian black cake) that was decorated beautifully for Christmas as well as a few slices of the tres leches (they have several flavors!), a couple boxes of meringues, a cheese arepa, a loaf of cheese bread, and a handful of empanadas. We have yet to try the wine cake and tres leches but the rest was all incredible! The arepa had so much flavor, the empanadas were filled perfectly and delicious, and the meringues melted in your mouth. This will be our go-to local bakery and we even plan on going for lunch one day as they have tables for you to dine-in! Hopefully once the weather warms up they will add outdoor dining as the bakery sits right next to a little pond. Great addition to the community and I hope for their success!

A coworker recently asked me to bring back some cookies since she knew I was flying home to New York. When she said she wanted good quality cookies, I already knew exactly where I was headed: Alpine. Every time I walk into this place it somehow feels like the first time. Maybe it's the nostalgia from going there with my family for so many years, or maybe it's because it's still family-owned and truly has that warm, welcoming vibe. The people who work there are always so sweet, accommodating, and kind, which just adds to the experience. When anyone brings up rainbow cookies, Alpine is honestly the first place that comes to mind for me. They're the only ones I really go to for them. For my coworker, I picked up a pound of assorted cookies so she could try a little bit of everything. Selfishly, I was definitely thinking I should've ordered a box for myself too! She absolutely loved them, which came as no surprise. If you want truly great Italian cookies and pastries, Alpine Pastry Shoppe is the only place that comes to mind for me. I'm so happy to see that they're still open, and I truly hope they remain a neighborhood staple for many years to come.

The inside Rainbow cookie is moist and dense. The chocolate outside was one of the best chocolate hardened glaze I have had in quite some time. **This is a weekend item** The inside is full of temptation. I also grabbed Easter bread and a Crumb Cherry Pie. You can order ahead of time and slip past the line to pick up inside on the right side.

Chana is such a sweetheart and I have been dying to try her donuts for months now! I will 100% be ordering donuts from her again! Pictured is her ube, rainbow, American dreamsicle, and tiramisu donuts! The tiramisu donut is my favorite!!! I love tiramisu cake and it taste so frickin good!!! I stumbled upon the Instagram for this online cake donut business run by a woman named Chana, and…read morehad been wanting to order for months. I was so enticed by the whimsical, atypical flavors and the bright saturated colors. I finally ordered the 5 pack and chose these flavors: 'Cotton Candy', 'Strawberry Crumb', 'Chocolate Banana', 'American Dreamsicle' and 'Italian Rainbow Cookie'. I loved the way each donut was wrapped in plastic and placed so intentionally in its packaging - a sleek gold-colored box with a sticker bearing her logo (a 'C' for Chana that doubles as a donut with purple frosting on it and sprinkles). My boyfriend and I did a "tasting" together trying small ¼ pieces of each flavor. The 'Cotton Candy' (pink frosting with swirls of blue) had a subtle cotton candy flavor but was very sweet, the 'Strawberry Crumb' (bright red) was tart, delicious and one of my favorites. The 'Rainbow Italian Cookie' (covered in tiny green, red & white sprinkles) tasted just like the real cookie; so enjoyable with a pronounced almond flavor. The 'American Deamsicle' (covered in blue, red & white round sprinkles) tasted like orange and was pretty good. My absolute favorite was the 'Chocolate Banana' (a striking yellow with brown swirls), which had a more tolerable sweetness than the others. Overall, I enjoyed the donuts: the taste, the uniqueness and the colors. My only feedback is that I would like the donuts less sweet, so it is easier to eat a whole donut. I would rate Chana's Donuts 3.8 out of 5 stars, and I would definitely order again to try new flavors, or to get the 'Chocolate Banana' or 'Strawberry Crumb' flavors again :)

After getting pizza from the next door Dominos (the shared lot has about 20 parking spaces and the…read moresupermarket across the street has lots more) on a late Sunday afternoon, I went to the bakery to see what they had: Lots of breads and Italian(!) -style butter cookies, and a few pastries. I selected a flan wedge and a chocolate cake slice, both of which could feed 2-3 people! The clerk asked if I wanted caramel sauce with the flan, to which I said, "What's a flan without caramel?" She used a restaurant-type condiment dispenser to squeeze out a rather thin consistency caramel onto the wedge, but, put a lot on it. By the time I got home, less than a half-hour later, the clear, corrugated, plastic, had "trapped" most of the caramel that had oozed off the flan, and, of which, the syrup had dried/seized to the point of being unusable (the plastic was too thin to safely microwave, so I couldn't get the caramel to liquefy that way). The flan was too eggy and dense for my taste, and not sweet enough, with, virtually, no vanilla flavor. The chocolate cake with white cream was too light/fragile, and there was not enough chocolate taste. The cost for both was about $13, incl tax, which, considering my disappointment in the taste, was not worth it. I might be back to sample their other goods, but, I won't be ordering the flan or chocolate cake, again. P.S. To the reviewer who said, "This place (i.e., Brentwood) is legit dangerous," I have travelled throughout Brentwood since the 60s, by foot, bicycle, car, and train, mostly by myself, and have never encountered anything that could be considered "dangerous." Shame on you for spreading social media stereotypes!
