First - I'm not an expert on tres leches. I've basically only had it up until now at a Colombian restaurant in Queens. Campbell's is known in Suffolk County as the place to get tres leches cake. It's their signature item. I went in and looked at display cases and didn't see anything that I thought would resemble a tres leches cake. Everything looked like a regular round buttercream cake. Service was very friendly - they told me they were all tres leches cakes. I bought one. Fresh & delicious but not what I was expecting. This may be authentic tres leches. I don't know. But what we had been used to when we ordered tres leches is a cake sopping in milk that has to be in a tray or some other container to hold all the milk from dripping out. This wasn't that. Maybe I got the wrong kind. It had a layer of buttercream that I'm used to seeing in other cakes but not tres leches. I'm told you can get your cake customized here. I just asked for a tres leches cake. Haven't tried other bakeries on LI for comparison. Surprisingly, I found that Uncle Giuseppe's sells an excellent tres leches cake - theirs is similar to what I thought I would be getting at Campbell's. Flavor is also richer and creamier. *This place is cash only! * The best tres leches!! Perfectly moist and sweet. I think the filling might have chopped up nuts, there was a little crunch to it, so I'd check with them for allergies. You can get very generous cakes by the slice $5 for tres leches, $4 chocolate cake, they also had others... strawberry shortcake etc. I'm currently working with Angela for my wedding cake. I said I was from out of town and I wanted to try the best of the best, so one lady recommended the following: Chocolate filled crumb cake, Churros donut, and the Tres Leches cake. How did everything taste? In short, EXCELLENT! *Tres Leches Cake: a big and generous serving! Creamy and milky with just the right amount of sweet flavor. This is their signature dish and rightfully so. I'd go back again just for a slice of this Heaven! Chocolate filled crumb cake: this was okay. There are too many rich flavors for me. If the chocolate filling were in a croissant it would be perfect. If the crumb cake were by itself it would be perfect. The two together aren't so great. I really wanted to keep this place as one of my favorites but the disappointment won. I didn't mind the 30 minutes ride to order from this place but now it's not even worth it anymore. Went To Campbell's this saturday for the first time and I was so surprised !!! Ive lived in islip for years never been there!! I got the tres leches and the flan and OMGGGGGGG! They were both so good ! Got them for a birthday party and tres leches was everyone elses favorite but mine and my cousins was the flan! We were so happy cause we were able to hide half of it in the fridge the people working at the bakery were so nice and patient with me because I had no idea what to pick I was just going back and fourth! The place was clean!! When I was leaving I saw over 20 people waiting on line to get inside the bakery thats when I realized how famous this place really is and honestly it is well deserved!!! This time I went to purchase a birthday cake but wanted something different than tres leches. I purchase a vanilla cake with vanilla icing and caramel filling. It was VERY delicious. The cake was moist and the icing wasn't too sweet. My only critiques are that the layers of caramel filling were too thick and the coconut flakes on the sides were unexpected but not a terrible surprise. My go to spot for their tres leches. A true classic bakery. I'm not a big fan of tres leches that is dripping, their tres leches has the right amount of moist and sweetness. It's not overbearingly sweet. The combination of the cream and the fruit is so refreshing. It's definitely a perfect cake for those who are craving something light and won't have you feeling groggy afterwards. Also a great bang for your buck as well. Even if you buy one slice, it's a hefty slice for under $5. I've tried their apple pies before which had a good crisp and yummy apple mixture. I understand that it is MOTHERS DAY and BUSY.... But there is no organization in this place. I order a cake over the phone 4 days prior to Mother's Day and the rep couldn't find the cake for about 15mins. Then tells me the cake isn't here. I explained that I called but that was all I had for proof since there's no confirmation or receipt given through the phone. About 10mins later she comes out with this cake. She stated that she found my cake and that it was behind all the other order. The cake looked terrible. It seems that it was made right at that moment. They stuck on a Mother's Day sign on the cake. No fruit on it ... which I requested . The Outline was terrible and they added some tacky green design. All this mess for $60. Idk this was very upsetting for the price and what I originally ordered. So you wonder, why the two star review? We got married at the Riviera in Massapequa and our wedding cake (included in our package) was to be made by the house bakery, Campbell's. We scheduled a cake tasting at the bakery's location and gleefully ordered our wedding cake, which was to say "Happily Ever After" on the bottom tier. Fast forward to the day of our wedding. To simply put it, I wish we would have just ordered a plain cake with no detail work. The linework on the cake was sloppy, which I guess I could have dealt with. However, what I couldn't deal with was that the bottom tier of the cake read "Happily Ever After Also". We ended up having to smear the "Also" out and were left with a giant mess where it was. The two stars given are purely for their delicious tres leches. Needless to say, Campbell's no longer has our business. read more

I don't even want to give this place one star.... The ruined my wedding cake and then when they tried to make up for it, they completely failed again. I asked for a nice, very light, blue and white colored cake. The cake I got looked like a gender reveal cake AT MY WEDDING. I was horrified and didn't even cut it the night of my wedding. It basically looked like a 5 year old made the cake. The cake did taste good, but looked terrible! The owner, Greg, offered me a free cake, pastry platter, cookies or something like that for the holidays AND $25 off any future order. He told me to text him to tell him what I wanted. I texted him a few days later to ask him what pastries come on the pastry platter. He responded a day later saying he would give me a couple dozen and they would be nice. That did not answer my questions so I followed up saying I have a nut allergy and needed to know what was on the platter. No response at all to that. I texted him again a few days after Christmas to see if he could do some fun treats for NYE and he told me that he wouldn't do what I wanted so I asked for custom NYE cookies and he said no again. Now he tells me I can only get half a sheet cake or a pastry platter. I asked again what pastries come on the platter...no response. I texted him the next day telling him that it would be the last time I would ask what comes on the pastry platter and if he didn't tell me I would just not order anything at all. He finally responded with a nice list of pastries. I agreed to get a platter and told him I would pick it up at 1pm on Tuesday (NYE). When I got to the bakery a little after one I waited on line and then was helped by someone who did not speak ANY ENGLISH! She made me write down my name and what I ordered. She came back out two different times looking confused and asking other people for help. Another woman came out to tell me Greg didn't know what I was talking about. I told her they messed my WEDDING CAKE and Greg said he would make it right. When they finally figured it out, the pastry platter wasn't even made yet and I needed to wait for it. Now I have spoken to 4 different people and NONE of them were Greg. I saw him peeking from the back, but he didn't even have the respect or decency to come out and apologize for inconveniencing me at all. I was at the bakery for 40 minutes before I got anything and half of the pastries he told me would be in the box, weren't even there. On top of all this, I didn't get a coupon or anything in writing saying I would get a discount on a future order. If you are trying to make something right by someone, you should have everything prepared so they don't have to wait at all!!
