I was in the area and wanted a sweet treat so I decided to stop into this cute little bakery. The young ladies behind the counter were super nice and helpful. I opted to get the pastry they call a chocolate cigar and it did not disappoint. I warmed it up when I got home and had it with some coffee. Old school and my #1 bakery. My favorite is their rye bread, which you can have sliced regular or thin. I also love their cupcakes. Though they don't always have them. The pecan ring is highly recommended. You could probably eat it all on your way home in the car. Also, in general, these items are not too sweet. People come from all over Long Island to go here. read more

This is an old school NY style bakery with fresh quality ingredients . Very few of these bakeries around anymore the one I went to in Queens closed after 90 years in business . I'm so glad I found this bakery as it's just perfect and reminds me of those old school quality bakeries in NYC . Grew up coming here and while I don't live in the area anymore, this is always a stop when I'm back visiting and after a stop this morning wanted to give this classic family bakery some love. Everything tastes exactly the same as it did 30 years ago and there is no bakery that beats their linzer tarts or black & whites. My only lament is that they no longer make jelly tarts, which were my fave as a kid. Wellwood is lucky to have the deliciousness of both Modern & Patsy's but absolutely nothing beats Modern. read more

Boston cream donuts are amazing here. Also tried the linzer tart cookies and they were good as well. However the sprinkles sandwhich cookies we got were definitely sub par compared to Patsys. Wet would still come back to try more things to compare between the two bakeries as they are only a couple doors down from each other. read more

This is one of my favorite childhood places. I have been coming here since the 1960s. If you come to Lindenhurst, you have to check it out. The picture only represents what I bought today. Greetings Yelpers, I have never been this establishment so my review is based on their Babka Cakes. They were brought as a gift to a function. Both Cheese & Chocolate Babka. ( sorry no photos as they went quickly) Both cakes were moist, soft & delicious. There was actually cheese & chocolate that you could both visibly see & taste unlike some Babka's I've had in the past elsewhere. If their other items are as good as the Babka cakes they must be really good. I would go just for the Babka. read more

We made it back to Long Island after 6 years. So much has changed but not Cieslak's Modern Bakery. It has been our favorite for years and still is the best. Everything from their rolls, breads, cakes, donuts and other goodies are absolute delicious. All of their goods are super fresh and baked to perfection and the cakes are pretty as a picture. We had to put in an order for our return to Texas including our daughters favorites. We left with 3 boxes full of goodies. Crumb buns, raisin buns, and bear claws. We would've ordered more but there was no place to put it. Buttered rolls for our trip to the airport. One of our carry ons was our package from Cieslak's. Bought a $20 apple pie from Cieslak's Bakery for thanksgiving- the pie was terrible. Both crust and filling were a bad consistency and taste. Everyone who took a bite politely washed it down and didn't take another. No one could believe it was a "fresh bakery pie" because it was so bad. Very big let down & quite embarrassing. I have gotten plain loaf cakes from them many times that are always good but any time I get something other than that it is always terrible. Literally always - and the only reason I've strayed from the plain loaf cakes has been due to either impulse based on the look of something or just being hungry. Never again. read more

Zero stars. Place might be a local favorite, but they can't process an order correctly when you order a week in advance. When you call to check on your order they realize they lost it so you make another one. Come to find out they can't process the second order because the "baker" never showed up for work. I am all for time off, sick time emergencies, but a simple phone call notification would have been appreciated. And don't air your frustration over the phone because you might get told "I can't deal with this tone". I am sorry I am frustrated, but you the bakery did not process my order and did not get a call to notify me you wouldn't be processing. Ridiculous read more

Whipped cream cakes are out of this world Chocolate mousse cakes are out of this world Ask them to make you the chocolate mousse filled, one vanilla cake layer, one chocolate cake layer, whipped cream covered cake. Completely agree with C D. This is a great family run bakery. Every now and then we see THE Mrs. Cieslacks (shes probably a Greatgrandma now) with her apron and big smile behind the counter, and her daughter filling the racks with right out of the oven goodies. Everything is fresh. The girls at the counter are very sweet. (lol) We always stop for their little cherry pies, a bite or two bigger than a single serving, but who cares because it's so delicious. read more

I remember This bakery as Modern Bakery, and I ask you, How the hell can you run a bakery and basically not have it change for as long as I can remember (40 years+). This is going to sound really stupid. I haven't even been to this bakery but my friend put out one of Cieslak's Philadelphia Fluff cakes (like a pound cake but infinitely lighter and tastier!) for dessert this week...and, well, here I am. Recently moved to Lindenhurst and quickly found out we have one of the best bakeries with in walking distance of our home! That can be good and bad!!! They have some of the best cakes and breads in the area. The Raspberry crumb boards are my favorite! We bring all there specialties to friends and family and always get great reviews!! This is a staple to Lindenhurst and long island. They have been here for over 76 years and nothing has changed at all inside and with their recipes. Although you may overlook this from the outside, the baked goods inside are the same as they would have been the day they opened. No preservatives and still a family business (kooky and funny). If you want a classic bear claw, apple turnover, this is the place to go. It's especially delightful because it's all pure ingredients which you can taste when you realize how light the product is. Plus it's not overly sweet. Everything you find nowadays (especially supermarkets) are like pure sugar. This place is the best, when I go back to NY to visit, I always stock up on cookies. I have been patronizing this bakery for OVER 50 years. Over the years, the size of the products may have decreased due to rising costs, but they have NEVER sacrificed quality. Before I left, I asked the young woman for utensils to eat my desserts with. She gave me a fork, whose tines she touched with her bare hands. I had to tell her that she should not do that. I hope this place gets inspected soon by The Suffolk County Department of Health Service. The bakery would definitely FAIL the critical element of "Good Retail Practices" . I've probably tried five or six different flavors over the past two years and again all of them were very consistently delicious and amazing. I can't even explain it . It's just perfect. I've had them a few times before when a coworker brought them in. And I finally got a chance to go myself. I was so happy to share the experience with my family.. personally I love the chocolate cake with the peanut butter filling. So if your peanut butter lover, OMG go go go!!! . The product is very consistent. They do have a very specific hours. And as Terry recommended, it's always best to call ahead and either order , check the flavors of the day . & or the shop hours. It kind of blew my diet, but it was well worth it.. please go you will not be disappointed.. the only negative thing I can say about my experience is I wish I had bought a more of a variety of flavors.
