Great pastries and lovely service! Stopped by on the way to a family function and and was so pleasantly surprised.

I have got a few items from Merritt Bakery and they all have been delicious. Some of our favorites to order are the: Italian and Irish apple cake and Italian cookies. This is a small and quaint bakery so it is a take out place just FYI. They have long hours usually 6:30 AM to 7pm on weekdays. If you are looking for something in particular, I would definitely call ahead! One time I wanted a cheesecake and I was able to place an order ahead of time so it would be ready! We buy the sprinkle cake for just about every holiday celebration. This year was such a delight to open the box and see the elaborately decorated cake! It was perfect! We also ordered a small cheesecake. My family loved everything. read more

3 Stars because I am being nice. They note delivery of cookies. I hope they are fresher than the stuff the are currently selling in the open store. 7 layer cake slice, might likely have been there from Mothers' Day as possibly the black and white cookies. 1.2 price mothers day cake for 8 dollars - only the one that says Mothers Day or Mom on it, not the others right next to it; listed at Costly for items that just don't cut it. (see pix) Where Francesco's is still at a standstill for construction finish in Hicksville, there are still places like Dortoni's that still have a line of people waiting to buy fresh bakery items. read more

The muffins are fantastic! Blueberry, banana nut, apple crumb, raspberry--are all just damn delicious. I also enjoy their semolina Italian bread; it has a nice thick crust with a nutty flavor. We enjoyed it. I'll be back! read more

A family friend recommended Merritt's for my engagement cake and I could not have been happier! Mike made us a beautiful, white, semi-naked cake with napolean & fresh strawberry/blueberry filling, white buttercream, blueberries on top. It was absolutely delicious. In the land of shrinking bakeries, this one has not progressed, so so bread, not very crispy, smaller than usual rolls, very good rye breads but are shrinking in size yearly, raspberry crisps still terrific but jelly doughnuts have very little jelly only sugared on top not powdered. But with bakeries limited in our neck of the island it's there for a quick fix. read more

Chocolate "Black & whites"/"Half moons"- finally after 40 years. Back in 1979, while in college, I would go to a bakery in Syracuse NY just to get their chocolate half moons. Since then, I've never been able to find them anywhere. Thanks to Mike, the quest is over. My wife was speaking to him one day while picking up some scones and mentioned it to him. He offered to make a batch for us, and before I knew it I was enjoying the delicious treat that I had missed for so many years. Thank you to Mike for doing that for us. My family has been going to this bakery for decades. We love the chocolate bobkas and turnovers (my favorite is apple); my grandpa would bring them when ever he came for a visit. Recently I moved further East and will still travel the distance to get their delicious bobkas. For my bridal shower, an order was made so it could be the dessert. I've loved Merritt Bakery since a kid when we would go on "Bun Runs"... We'd sleep over one of our house's and late at night (early morning) sneak up to their back door where we'd find racks of fresh baked goodies (mostly rolls) and swipe them for breakfast. This place is tiny little shop that bakes up some power cakes. I called and asked if they had preserves or fresh strawberries in the center of their strawberry shortcakes (my Dad is picky for fresh and it was his birthday). They said they used preserves, but could bake up a fresh one using fresh cut strawberries and cream. Did they ever? This cake made me very popular with my family. People that don't even like cake were devouring it. My Dad looked at me with loving, grateful eyes after he took his first bite. Now, I will definitely call every time I need a fresh one. Assorted pies,cakes,doughnuts[try the cinnamon jelly,excellent!!!] Whipped cream cakes, breads. All are so fresh and tasty. Then the baker offered to make up a big cake on the fly! 15 minutes later, I walked out with a large custom square cake that not only looked beautiful it tasted great!
