Despite my peanut allergy, we decided to have breakfast at Northstar Café during our visit to…read moreColumbus. We started with a Hot Apple Cider, topped with maple-infused whipped cream and cinnamon, along with a couple of hot coffees. The cider was warm, comforting, and full of cozy fall flavors. Unfortunately, the self-serve coffee station wasn't kept stocked, and after waiting quite a while for a refill, we eventually gave up. For breakfast, we ordered two Mushroom Frittatas, a Fresh Buttermilk Biscuit, and a side of Housemade Breakfast Sausage. The Mushroom Frittata featured three hearth-baked eggs with roasted mushrooms, sweet onions, and Gruyère cheese, served alongside breakfast potatoes and a peppery arugula salad. It was flavorful, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. Although I informed the staff about my peanut allergy, I was surprised to find the crispy breakfast potatoes on my plate, which left me uncertain whether the allergy request had been fully communicated to the kitchen. The Fresh Buttermilk Biscuit, served with strawberry preserves, was one of the highlights of the meal. It was flaky, buttery, and wonderfully moist, pairing perfectly with the sweet preserves. The Housemade Breakfast Sausage consisted of two peppery pork patties that were juicy and well-seasoned, making a great accompaniment to the rest of the meal. Overall, we enjoyed a delicious and filling breakfast with fresh, high-quality ingredients. While I wish the coffee station had been monitored more closely and that greater care had been taken regarding my food allergy, the Mushroom Frittata and fresh biscuit alone make Northstar Café worth returning to.

Formal Complaint: Unprofessional Management and Order Fulfillment at OSU Campus Location…read more To the Executive Team at Roots Natural Kitchen, I am writing to formally express my profound disappointment regarding a recent experience at your Ohio State University campus location on Father's Day. The lack of customer care, patience, and professionalism I encountered from the Manager on Duty was entirely unacceptable, and doesn't deserve even a half star, but I had to choose one. On Father's Day, my family ordered five bowls, two of which were seasonal bowls made with the original ingredients with the exception of extra lime. One of these bowls was specifically meant for my husband, who is currently in the hospital. I had raved to him about your restaurant, as it was one of the few healthy options he could safely enjoy during his stay. Unfortunately, the meal was prepared with a blatant lack of care. Even after it was made clear that this was a special meal for him, his portion size was equivalent to a half-bowl, and it was entirely missing the onions and tomatoes. Seeking to resolve the issue, I called the restaurant and was placed on hold. When the phone was picked up, the staff member did not offer a greeting, a name, or any indication of who was speaking. I politely stated, "Hi, I was holding for the manager," to which she abruptly replied, "This is." When I asked for her name, her response was unclear and unkind. Despite maintaining a calm and respectful tone while explaining that my husband's hospital meal for Father's Day had been made incorrectly, the manager was immediately combative and argumentative for absolutely no reason. Instead of offering a basic level of customer service or empathy, I was met with disrespect. Your company's mission proudly states: *"We strive to empower people through radical accessibility to natural food."* Unfortunately, the radical lack of care and professionalism I experienced completely contradicts that standard. Because of this deeply disappointing experience, I will no longer be a patron of your establishment. Furthermore, I will not be recommending Roots Natural Kitchen to anyone moving forward, including for any future corporate or community events I coordinate. I hope you address this leadership and service failure with your OSU campus team so that no other customer is treated this way in the future. Sincerely, Latisha Roland

Once the ice cream starts melting, things get even more gooey and delicious! So. Freaking. Good. I went during lunch and had the benefit of trying my wife's cheesesteak which is only one the lunch menu. Now, I loved my burger and the thick cuts of bacon that overflowed from the circumference on the buns. Somehow, that cheesesteak was a notch above that. The cheese sauce was the key ingredient. If you get a sandwich, my vote is for the fries over the kettle chips. But my biggest vote is for going to South Village Grille in the first place because they really impressed during my lunchtime visit.

Really in love with its vibes, both indoor dining room with different segments of seatings and outdoor patio tables are amazing. The interior design here is truly unique and artistic. Great for big groups, date night, or even just chilling with friends. Not sure if it's the standard here, but there was never anyone filling our water during the entire dining time after they left 2 bottles of water on the table. Our server is patient and friendly but not on point. They messed up our orders, forgot one order and brought one wrong (we ordered smashed burger but received chicken sandwich). Very surprising that the staff didn't do anything or offer to send in the correct order. The chef of table service for Tomahawk is fun and enjoyable to carry conversations but unfortunately our Tomahawk was overcooked. We loved the presentation for sure though. Their smoked ribs is not "smoked" but boiled and soaked in sauce. The "smoked" part refers to its presentation, but their machine was down, and we were not told, so we basically got the ribs, neither smoked in cooking method nor smoked when it was brought to our table. The donut tree is another one great for eyes and cameras. It comes with little fireworks at the table service. Overall we enjoyed the breeze and atmosphere here. Will come back for relaxation if in town.
