Falora is located in a brick-stoned plaza with other great venues such as Sessions Yoga and Sidecar. The interior is trendy and great for meet-ups or dates with a medley of private and communal tables. They have ample outdoor seating as well. I started off with an "aperitif," which I'll be honest I had to look up on google. Mine was essentially a shot of limoncello which was a bit too strong for me, but they did have perrier which I added in and made a refreshing drink. (They otherwise serve beer and wine only, no actual cocktails) We had the Butter Pecan salad as well as the Pesto pizza which both tasted like they were made with crisp and fresh ingredients. Plenty of vegetarian options. They provide Etch-A-Sketches for kids, which of course I asked for despite being not in the right age group. There other thing is they'll play your record if you bring it! Service was great. Will definitely be back. read more

Intimate and amazing place! Artisan quality foods and selection of beer and wines. We have gone a few times to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays and absolute love it every time. You can watch the pizzas and breads being cooked in the traditional wood fire oven and the owner is usually there working and comes around asking how things are. read more

I think Falora is the bee's knees. A cozy interior, a great vinyl collection, and some seriously good pizza - what more could you want? I've visited with a large group and as a smaller table, and each time the service was fabulous and friendly. They could have easily turned us away this weekend, but they made room for us happily - that stuff goes a long way. I really enjoy the complimentary olives, and the bread starter is NOT to be missed. That stuff is to die for, fresh out of the oven. My boo and I shared a pizza and I also snagged a bite of my friend's caprese, which was fresh and flavorful. I appreciate the variety of options here and I don't think you can go wrong - anything on this crust would be mouthwatering. Great for a date night or sharing za with friends...get here! It's a gem. Falora is a bit far from me so I don't go there as often as I'd like but I absolutely love it. It's a real comfort place for me, something I crave when I'm sick or sad. The ambiance is great and the people are always nice. Oddly, my very favorite thing is their bread. It's baked to order and served with olive oil with oregano and sea salt. It's for sharing but I could eat a whole loaf by myself and not regret a thing. I also love the aperol splitzer, another thing made to share, but I prefer to keep to myself. Obviously I love their pizza too. My pizza tastes lean towards either very classic or very unique, So I usually order the margherita or the Maré (anchovies!) or the Figaro (sauceless with figs and Brussels sprouts!). Their pizza dough is truly best in town, unsurprising considering the delicious bread. It's real Neapolitan pizza dough, slow fermented and perfectly wood fired. Hot tip: when I get it to-go or delivered, I heat it up from the drive by putting it in the oven at 375 for about 5 minutes and it comes out fresh, melty and not soggy at all! I almost couldn't find this place but it is to the right of Zocalo, and it really is a hidden gem. Its subtle signage is an intentional choice of the ambiance of this place. A tucked away pizzeria that should change your views on what brick oven pizza is all about. We began with a Caprese from the Antipizza menu, and lord it was good. The restaurant itself is supplied by a small farm (Sleeping Frog Farm near Benson) and the ingredients are amazing. Using Heirloom fruits and vegetables for their meals makes this special and unique experience. Sitting at the "Farm" table I feel your less inclined to rudely pull out your cell phone and face book away your precious time with the friends you bring. Stay in the moment and appreciate the vinyl music, they will even play yours if you bring it. Keep it classy though, I'm not sure if they will play your Megadeath album. For dinner we indulge in the FUMO- a pizza with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, capers, red onion and salmon. The combination was unique to me and so delicious. We met the owner Ari, who was very friendly. Nice to have a pizza joint that you are anxious to go back to. So park in the shopping center and find your way back to Falora. :D read more

My husband and I joined some friends here for dinner on a Friday night, just a couple of weeks after Falora had opened. We were totally amazed by the food and atmosphere and didn't have any issues with our food or service. What's great about the decor is that you can see the pizza oven and the kitchen staff at work, and you feel like you're sitting in someone's kitchen talking over wine. What lends itself to that feeling are the large common tables at which you can sit and enjoy your meal, or if you want a bit more privacy, there are some sweet tables with window seats to enjoy as well. Ari, the owner, came by to check on us a few times and ask how everything was: and it was fabulous. Try the Arrosto pizza: the figs and truffle oil make this pizza exceptional. We also had a salad (and unfortunately I can't remember the name), but apples and fennel were involved and I was really impressed. The food is delicious and the price points of the food are totally reasonable. It's a wonderful new place that I can't wait to return to and try more of their food! read more

I'm giving Falora an updated rating and review. My original write-up of our (1-star) experience was enough to get the attention of the owner, Ari, who wrote me personally to apologize. He explained, in detail, the events that lead up to our experience that night, and--suffice it to say--Falora has had an incredibly rough opening week. Again, having worked in the industry, I definitely understand the situation. I get the impression that these past two weeks have been a bit of a learning curve, but the learning is happening, which is a good thing! After reading my critique, Ari invited my friends and I to come back and have dinner on him, which I thought was very generous and humble. He knows that he's got some kinks to work out, but he IS paying attention to his customers when they tell him that things aren't up to par. Some people don't care about feedback, but he clearly does. I know that I said in my review that I wouldn't return, but anyone who is gracious enough to reach out to his customers and ask for a second chance deserves just that. We're looking forward to coming back within the next couple of weeks, and I'll be sure to update my rating again. This time, I'll be able to base it on the food and drinks at the restaurant, instead of just walking through the front door! read more

Honestly I was disgusted by food and service First off a little back story, I live in the neighborhood and always love to try new local places. Pizza is one of my favorite foods and so I was eager to try out Falora. When we arrived, there were five people In the restaurant. We were seated by a very nice waitress. Everything was going well until my salad came. The waitress informed me that I could not get it with dressing on the side because it was pre mixed(YUCK). The croutons tasted like gummy bears, they were so stale. Next came the pizza. I ordered a pizza that said it had mozzarella on it. When the pizza came, it had no cheese on it, no oil, no salt, no nothing. Just crust and vegetables. I am nota big salt person but it really could have helped. When I asked the surly waiter/manager about the cheese, he responded by saying, oh we put very light cheese and proceeded to dissect my pizza. He then pointed to a piece of wet dough and said "there is it." I was really disappointed and upset that I had to pay 14 dollars for this pizza that wasn't completed. Hope that they can improve for others sake. read more

This is a terrific new restaurant in Tucson and well worth checking out. The owner is the gentleman who started Xoom Juice, Tucson's only best smoothie stores, so you know you're in for something good. The restaurant doesn't disappoint. The pizzas are wonderful - super thin crust, made from a special Italian flour (which we learned was less gluten-y), great salads, and a really interesting and appealing decor. I don't agree with some of the criticisms here about decor; personally, we loved the vibe. Sure, it's a little pricey, but we found it well worth it and will definitely return. p.s. I am so glad to be able to say that somebody's trying to open a new local restaurant in Tucson. We need them, and if I have to see another mattress store open, I'll scream. Wait, AAAAUGH! The important few things you need to know: the pizza was four star, but the price (and a few other things) knock off a star. Considering all the other choices we have for pizza in this town, I can't justify going back here until the price drops by $4 to $5 per pizza. So now some interesting details. The place is a collection of some contradictions: the price and subtle ambiance say "Gourmet wine and pizza restaurant," but the fact is, the first thing you see is a rather raw, garish metal bar fronting the pizza kitchen, which gives me the sense of a fast food, by the slice joint. Then there's the fact that the layout, lighting (too bright), and huge group tables make the place feel even more like a fast food joint. The pricing (too high) and the wine selection (decent) are incongruous in this setting. The pizza: decent, to great Napolitan influenced pizza. Not excellent. Not amazing. Importing a brick oven is neat, but does not cause a perfect pizza. The place was comfortable and the staff friendly. Despite the menu saying that they don't want to do exchanges on pizzas they let us get a kale pizza without anchovy. read more

So with the end of the year, time to give a good reliable restaurant a review. This writer has eaten there at least ten times since it opened and for consistency and freshness it is excellent. The owner made the clever choice a long time ago to keep the menu short. Even, Gordon Ramsey, the chef with the biggest head in the business, as been preaching this mantra for years. Why small? Because each dish can be cooked from scratch, a chef can order and budget for the freshest ingredients, and there is little if any waste, thereby keeping prices at a reasonable level. A great restaurant has a need for a refrigerator but not a freezer. The pizzas here are cooked in a wood-fired oven imported from Italy. A simple concept but like many simple things if you don't know what you are doing it can be disaster (try the wood-fired pizza at Screamin' Banshee in Bisbee for an example of a disaster). Here the crust is crisp but not burnt and the middle stays mostly firm. The basic marinara pizza is excellent, perhaps because of the careful choice of tomatoes used. On a final note, this restaurant out-lived the big hotshot from Phoenix that closed recently after two years on Congress Street. Well done! read more

It's been over one year since I reviewed this spot, and an update is way overdue! I've officially tried over half the menu and I have so many favorites and a few new ones too. The Piastra salad is a must! Zucchini noodles with pesto, spinach and tomatoes. It's delicious and nutty and probably one of the best dishes in town. The kale salad is still one of my personal favorites. My go-to order is the kale salad, the Cura Pizza (Sopressata, olives, roasted garlic) and now the Piastra. The menu is super vegetarian friendly, but packs a punch with creative flavor combos and super fresh ingredients. Falora is one of my favorite spots in town- they've been cranking out fresh menu items, many with locally sources ingredients, and even a pizza that benefits Bens Bells, since they opened. It's clean and honest food. Plus, I adore the cozy atmosphere and the lovely team at Falora. I suggest you stop by Sidecar bar for a cocktail before or after a meal at Falora- it makes for a great night! read more

Came in at 8 and service was fine in the beginning, ordered drinks and 2 pizzas. Waited 30 minutes for the first pizza to come out because they were busy, come the time of 8:55 the waiter comes over to check on us and I told him I was still waiting for my pizza. He ended up loosing my ticket and the kitchen had started to close so I lost my opportunity to eat. Really disappointed. Server was kind enough to discount the order that was able to make it out. Figaro pizza was ok wouldn't eat again. Chef was working as fast as he could and was fun to watch at the bar! Won't be eating here again. read more

But why would I make reservations to sit cafeteria style within feet of another couple with no opportunity for private conversation? I love this new fancy pizza spot. To start with the ambiance is great. The tables and all the woodwork inside is absolutely beautiful. The community tables are pretty cool but I also love the table that can seat six by the window where you can sit in the window seat. Totally fun. I've been here twice now and both times the food was great. The first time I went with 5 people and we got 3 pizzas and 2 salads. Probably a little overkill, but none of us went hungry! The second time I went with 4 people and we got 2 pizzas and 1 salad and it was perfect. I'm totally loving both the Arrosto and the Cura pizzas. The Arrosto is amazing with really unique flavors probably brought on by the truffle oil. As far as salads I love both the Butter Pecan which has these big tasty apple slices and the Kale which includes kalamata olives and artichoke hearts, always favorites. The service the first time wasn't terrible but it certainly wasn't seamless. The second time about a week and a half later they'd clearly gotten it together. They got us drinks right away, anything on the menu that they didn't currently have they stated as they handed us the menus (nicely) so that we didn't have that in mind to order only to find out we couldn't later. The owner is so nice. Both times we've been there he's been going around checking on tables and asking about food. He was walking down the sidewalk as we were walking in this time so he walked us in and helped us find a place to sit. He clearly really wants to make this place great and I'm happy to return to it again and again. read more

We visited Falora as our last stop in exploring Tucson. I had seen this restaurant in a magazine and thought we should check it out. We were not disappointed! First, I called ahead to ensure that they allowed dogs and the host said they did and made a reservation for us to ensure that we wouldn't have a wait for the patio with our dog. Once seated, they brought us and our pup water. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. We ordered a bottle of their Pinot Grigio and the Bianca pizza plus the margherita pizza. The pizza was super delicious. Great ingredients made for a spectacular pizza. The atmosphere on their patio was a very cool vibe. When we come back through Tucson, we will definitely stop here again! They also have a "sister" restaurant next door called the side car. Can't wait to check that out! read more

Oh waiter, you are so sweet. You put up with bad jokes so well. You were very patient with my friends string of cheesy jokes (in an attempt to be witty). The pizza's are very tasty with fresh local ingredients. I love the ambiance of the place. I like how green olives are served instead of bread. The menu is simple and they dont overdo anything. Anything is a great selection of quality ingredients. We ordered the margherita and their special of the day which was a squash one. I'd say the squash was a bit hard to eat simply due to all the cilantro (still on their stems). The taste didnt lack- just a bit awkward to eat in public. This place is good. REAL good! read more

Such a cute pizza spot! I love the big windows and minimal decor. It's light, bright and airy, with a cute patio outside. I stopped by after a hard yoga class next door at Session Yoga and grabbed a table outside with my friend. We immediately got a cappuccino and a glass of the Chianti. If you need a caffeine kick, get the cappuccino it is good and strong! The Chianti was excellent as well. For our meals we got the Margarita pizza and the Bianca. I preferred the Bianca because it didn't have a red sauce, and I'm a cheese lover. But, my friend loves margarita pizza and she loved it. The pizzas are about 12" with thin and crispy dough, so they are big enough to share, or to have some leftovers to reheat later. As we were enjoying our meal, two other ladies from Session stopped by to see if they could grab a table. They had a buzzer from Sushi Garden and were tired of waiting. We recommended they give up their place in line at Sushi Garden and to eat at Falora instead. The hostess saw this interaction and thanked us with a coupon for $3 off our next pizza! A few years ago, my then boyfriend and I were road tripping and staying the night in Tucson. We were tired, hungry, and it was getting late. We got to Falora right before closing and they were nice enough to let us order and eat there. I don't know if it was the weariness from travel but it was one of the most amazing meals we've ever had. The service was great, the wine was pouring, and the pizza was phenomenal. But what really set everything apart was the salad. We had order the butter lettuce salad and from that moment on, we never forgot it. Fast forward a couple years and I'm sitting down with my caterers for my wedding. They had given me a bunch of salad options that all sounded pretty boring and then I remembered this amazing salad. They did a such great job replicating it and it wasn't exactly the same but the memory behind the salad made our night even more special. The salad was a huge hit at our wedding and inspired us to stop by Falora once again. This time around, we purposefully planned our trip to stop in Tucson for the night just so we could enjoy a meal here. The service was just as great as before, the pizza was spot on, and that salad was exactly how I remembered. If anyone gets a chance to stop by Tucson or is looking to have an intimate dinner, this place is a must. They have a pizza oven, use local ingredients, and even offer some local wines. Great new midtown addition. With all of the city's attention (deservedly focused) on the emerging downtown restaurant scene, it's easy to miss some new stars that are not in the heart if downtown. Falora is a place to check out. In the very beautiful Joesler center at Broadway and Country Club, Ari Shapiro has brought a sophisticated but simple pizza and salad restaurant to town. Done in long, reclaimed wood tables...most are communal...it's a very nice space. The pizza oven blasts to 800 degrees and is gorgeous. Salads are fresh made and delicious. The butter pecan was satisfying and the Caesar was salty and crisp, complete with anchovies. Pizza, though, is the star. Don't miss the unique and delicious Bené Bell, a veggie offering inspired by Ben's Bells and with proceeds going directly to its mission. There is heavy emphasis on vegetarian pizzas, but the one meat option that we tried was hot, spicy and salty. Everything you want in a pizza. Bianca's is coming to town, but he will have to be on his game to draw me from Falora. read more

The search for the best pizza in Tucson is over. Ever since eating the real thing in Naples, I have been on a cross country hunt for anything that comes close. Fälora's margherita with buffala mozzarella is as good as any I've had in New York City, and better by far than anything else I've had in Tucson. As an added bonus, the decor is gorgeous and modern, and the staff are total sweethearts. But even if none of that we're true, they would get five stars just for the pizza. My new favorite restaurant. It's so rare that vegans and carnivores can sit side by side in harmony at the same restaurant and both can be so happy. Thank you Falora for making me a vegan pizza! Reading some of these review and I'm thinking that these guys should go to the Pizza Hut buffet. Have a Peroni and enjoy the company of your friends and family - it's the journey not the destination. This is a neat, cozy place. I love the exposed bricks, lighting, funky chairs, and - no televisions! I love the lack of televisions. Also, their house stereo is a real stereo and turn-table. Pretty cool. The Cura pizza we had was pretty good, but too salty for my taste, and the super-thin crust got soggy a bit too fast. The locally-sourced Frogge (Frog?) Salad from Willcox was excellent - I had no idea Willcox grew such good spinach! The staff was friendly, prompt, and fun. I feel like every time I come back to Falora I'm more disappointed. That perfect crispy crust and adventurous toppings that we experienced the first time have fallen to a limp, floppy crust and seasonal offerings that haven't really impressed me. The mouth-feel of the crust was really it's selling point, but the last few times we've visited, it's just been mushy and floppy. The kind you have to eat with a fork. And that was with a number of their menu staples. Also -- and maybe this doesn't fit into the overall motif of the place -- they REALLY need a damn highchair. They have one booster seat currently. And while we were there, there were no fewer than three little girls dining (one of them being my own 11-month-old). Maybe it wasn't intended to be a place for young families, but young, hip families are coming. It's time to give them a place for their kids to sit at the community table too. All three families actually shared that booster seat, and we ended up eating with our daughter on our lap (because I think the booster seat was a little out of her league). Went this afternoon and was greeted when we walked in. We sat at the community table. It wasn't busy. They brought us water when we sat down but it was lukewarm and no ice, that was a turnoff. We ordered the Caesar salad, Cura and Margherita pizzas, ice tea and Mexican coke. The Caesar salad came with strips of anchovies which I liked it. It was a good portion enough to share. The pizzas were served on wooden boards. The sauce and toppings were very good. The Cura had big chunks of roasted garlic and olives, very nice. My son had the Margherita and liked the crust. He ate all of it. My husbands ice tea was good but they did not offer any sweetener. The Mexican coke came in a bottle and would have been better with a glass of ice. The music was from a record player, it was something my 10 year old had never seen before. That was a sight to see and for him to see vinyl records. Service was quick and he checked back a few times. Now if they would serve cold iced water this would be a 5 star review. Will go back for the pizza. read more

I read through some of the reviews and am a bit shocked at some of the responses. I dined there on Sunday with 3 friends. We ordered the Caprese salad which had really nice quality tomatoes and mozzarella. We ordered 3 pizzas of different variety and I thought they were all excellent. The dough was delicious and the mixtures of flavors superb. The atmosphere is meant to be casual and communal. If you were expecting a fussy, elegant dining experience, it's not going to deliver. Any new restaurant will have kinks to work out and being that the owner also owns 4 other establishments in town, I'm certain they will be taking the comments to heart. On the verge of five stars..... Last night was our first visit to Falora, and it will not be our last. My fiancé and I shared a Cheese Board, Butter Pecan Salad and Pesto Pizza. In all honesty, the only thing that brought my review down to four stars was the cheese board. My fiancé is French so maybe our expectations for a cheese board are high. We received two hard cheeses, dried apricots, toasted pecans and bread sticks. We would have loved a third cheese (maybe a good Roquefort or Brie) and a small boule of bread. The hard cheeses were good, just would have liked a third type even if that meant the price went up a few $$ on this item. The Butter Pecan Salad was fab! The dressing was light, lettuce and fennel fresh and the goat's cheese, amazing. The goat's cheese was soft and flavorful without being tart. The Pesto Pizza was heavenly. I'm pretty sure the pesto was house made. A perfect balance of all the flavors, to me nothing is worse than overly garlic pesto. The crust was chewy yet with the perfect crispness. I truly can not wait to go back and try more flavors of pizza. We both liked the ambiance of the place. The service was very good. The music kitschy cool. One last caveat..... I am very sensitive to salt and the food here is not salty! Just fresh and flavorful. What a great addition to the Tucson restaurant scene! Bravo! read more
