I decided to try Fairhaven Poke because friends were raving about it. I had the smoked salmon and the spicy tuna on a bed of sushi rice. After having my bowl filled I was expecting to have an expensive lunch, to my surprise it was only $7. It pains me to leave this less than glowing review. I have been a fan since the very beginning, and was so pleased when the owners sold instead of just closing. That said, today was a huge disappointment. Everything we bought - fish, sides, rice, was supremely underseasoned. Everything lacked salt, lacked acid, lacked heat. I've never seen this type of quality control issue here and for the price, if it had been my first visit, I'd probably not be that excited to come back. Second, and this is a pet peeve of mine for awhile. You know you raised your prices. And shrank your servings. Your customers get that prices everywhere for food are going up. But then don't also underfill the bowls. If you are pricing for 1/4 lb of fish, then make sure that scale says .25 and not .22. Its obnoxious as hell. Just go nuts and add one more chunk of fish. Then your repeat customers might feel cared for instead of ripped off. Or go back to the o.g. model of pricing per lb, and let the customer get .2 if they want and .4 if they want. Charge an extra buck to cover the rice. That was a better model. read more

What a wonderful addition to Fairhaven. Finally something other than pizza and burgers! I must say that the treats here are extremely delicious! Basically you cannot go wrong with what you order here. One of my faves is the seaweed salad to go along with the other types of fish. Also the prices are fairly reasonable if you order small. It is a bit of a drive for me but it does not matter. The cuts of fish are not too small/large and you should try this place at least once. Back again and still loving it! Got the Basil Wasabi Hamachi with kimchi shrimp, ocean salad, and edamame. They are temporarily out of Ahi which broke my heart a little bit but the gals behind the counter encouraged me to try the Hamachi, and I'm so glad I did! They currently offer Hamachi two ways; basil wasabi or oyster sauced. The ginger shoyu is still available with albacore in place of ahi and it lends its delicate buttery texture to this house favorite quite nicely. (The albacore is the current star in four different delicious styles!) As always the additional options for add-ins are plentiful and not to be missed, especially the house made kimchi! read more

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but I had never tried poke before today, mostly because I'm not the biggest fan of tuna. I convinced my boyfriend to let me try a bit of his while we were out in Fairhaven today and boy oh boy was that a mistake. I ended up eating most of his bowl of wasabi-basil hamachi and spicy mayo tuna. You can pick and choose whichever types of tuna you want over rice or salad (or both!) and add extras such as edamame, seaweed, squid and kimchi. I was really impressed by the flavor and especially the freshness. Oh and the woman who rang me up told me they are working on getting salmon in for the summer - which means you'll see me here often during that time:) if you're in to poke or raw fish DEFINITELY 100% give this place a try! read more

Only thing that disappointed me is that the selection is a bit over priced. It makes sense to pay for the fresh fish, but besides that you are getting rice and very few options for toppings.. this place was a little disappointing. I don't know if my expectations are just too high from FOB poke in Seattle or what but damn :/. They weigh the fish here so a mini would be .25lb and a regular would be .50lb I personally find it easier when it's just picking one or two proteins but whatever I can get past that. What was poopy was I didn't know I was done ordering after picking one side!! You only get one side for a mini !!!!! And I guess the fish is already seasoned and sauced so u don't pick the sauce maybe ?? I'm not sure but there was no option for sauce or toppings offered they just straight up rang me up for it after I had to pay 1 dollar and some change extra for a second side. I may as well have gone to just poke .. even tho their portion sizes are smaller than I'm used to they at least let you get ur furikake and wontons and many other sides and toppings with ur base and protein... Hey, great poke here! My friend was in town from Kaua'i and I suggested we take a scenic drive down Chuckanut, which was less than scenic since it was stormy, and ended up in Fairhaven, right in front of Aloha Poke. Being from Hawai'i, we had to test out their chops...and I have to say the quality of poke was realllly good. I've been seeing these poke shops popping up all over Seattle, but haven't tried any of them as I was a little skeptical. Glad we poked our heads in to take a look. I got ginger shoyu poke and my friend got the inamona and the tako poke. The ginger shoyu was a good flavor...your standard shoyu poke I would say. The tako poke was so so, I prefer it without all the ginger. As long as I ate it w/out the ginger pieces it was okay. And the inamona was pretty good. I would have preferred it without the ginger shoyu, but it was good all the same. Price-wise it was on the steep side, but it was worth it. I am not sure what the pricing is on a poke bowl because I don't like eating my poke w/rice unless it's flash fried, so that could be a cheaper option maybe? I rarely come to Fairhaven since I live in Kirkland, but if I'm in the area I would definitely stop by again. Great quality poke. I love this place so much! I live in the North county and I drive 40+ minutes down to Fairhaven multiple times a month to satisfy my constant cravings for their rice bowls. There are places in Canada closer to me where I could get poke, but those just won't do. There is a wide variety of poke, and it all looked very fresh. Came in for the first time, let the server know that it was my first time, and his service did not meet my expectations. He only took time to explain that portions were sold by the pound, and nothing about any other logistics of the restaurant. I chose a small portion and was expecting to be able to put some yummy toppings like fruit and veggies, but either the server did not offer me toppings or they just don't have any. It basically was just fish on top of a bowl of rice. Which, yes is good, but it's not what I was expecting after being at plenty of poke restaurants in the Seattle area where I get to add edamame, pineapple, chilies, etc. I much prefer JustPoke in downtown Bellingham - much friendlier staff that take their time to explain their system, offer you toppings, and are just genuinely nice. read more

Talk about friendly and helpful staff! Never been before? No problem, they will patiently explain everything. They seem to really enjoy working there. And don't be fooled by "$20+/lb prices". The first time I had a poke bowel was when I was in California and I've been craving one ever since. You can imagine how excited I was to discover there was a local restaurant that serves poke bowls. When I went to Aloha Poke yesterday they didn't have salmon sashimi (darn it!), but they did have ahi! I requested a salad and I could have as much or as little as I wanted since everything is weighed. My poke salad was sooooooooo good! Aloha Poke has instantly become my favorite place! It's been a freaking uphill battle to get some poke from this place but you know what? It wasn't the store's fault so I'm not gonna take away any stars. Just bought a bunch of their Poke: ahi poke with see asparagus, Limu kukui Poke, and their Tako Poke. Not bad, it's not Safeway Lahaina, Sack n' Save Wailuku, or Tamashiro Market. They only been open about 3 weeks ago. I say give them time. Seems like they making a splash from the start. Their main sell is Poke Bowls. Wow! I'm kinda proud of how a Typically Common Traditional Hawaiian Dish has grown in Popularity around the US and Canada. Funny how Hawaii and Hawaiian Traditions have always change the Global trends. I hope this place can make it. Still Poke may seem easy to make in concept. However, Hawaiians and people born and raised in Hawai'i know Good poke takes more than fresh fish, it takes a Chef or Cook a depth of understanding flavors and Tradition. I have been waiting for this place to open since I moved here in May, and first walked around Fairhaven to explore. I didn't realize it had opened on the 4th of August, but was pleasantly surprised (total understatement, I may have shrieked once or twice) to see it up and running finally! I love poke. It's one of my favorite things to get when I get sushi and I've only ever dreamed of having the real thing in Hawaii. For me, minus the white beaches, this was a dream come true. And it didn't disappoint! The rice was perfect, the furikake was equally amazing, and the poke was flavorful and fresh. The fish smelled fresh and the texture was buttery and perfect. The service was equally amazing. I was greeted with smiles and very kind customer service. Their warmth made me want to come back again and again, so I had no problem joining their membership program. A cute shop with good food and nice workers? Hell yeah! The fact this place has such great reviews makes me think the people in Bellingham have never been to an efficient 2018 style poke place. This is like a poke place you would find in Hawaii. SO much wrong going on here. First off, the way it is set up is more like a deli, not a poke place. The owners would do well to visit some of the poke establishments down south and learn from them. The ordering process where you have to have EVERY ITEM YOU WANT ADDED WEIGHED AND CHARGED SEPARATELY IS INEFFICIENT as results in WAY OVERPRICED bowls. It also takes FOREVER to make a bowl, especially when the people in front of you have never had poke before. The cold case with the fish in it is difficult to understand especially with hand written signs that are difficult to read and you have bend over to read what they have. They should have a menu board that tells you what is in the case, or paper order sheets to expedite. On the night I visited, they had a bunch of creative different poke, but NO BASICS. Out of Ahi, no Salmon, No Eel. Told me something about tariffs or whatever. SO WHY DO ALL THE POKE PLACES IN SEATTLE HAVE IT? We live on the ocean. Heck you can get sushi grade salmon eel etc in Lynnwood maybe closer. No diet drinks...I am diabetic. NO extra toppings like most standard poke places: Ummmm may I suggest: Crab Salad, Edamame, Furikaki (supposedly they have it, but where???), Seaweed Salad, Jalapenos, Wasabi, Avocado, diced cucumber, daikon. You guys are SO BEHIND! How about some Different sauces: Spicy Soy, Sesame Soy, Sweet Chili, Garlic Soy UBER EATS! POST MATES! GRUB HUB! I would have ordered musubi or that butter mochi, but with 3 people working it took 15 minutes to do the 2 people in front of me and my order so I didn't want to risk having to wait on the musubi. If you like this place, better go a lot because if anyone of the poke places from down south open up, this place better step up its game or its gone. I love this place -- I've been there three times and they've only been open a month. The fish is fresh and delicious, the seasonings are killer, and it's just a great place to eat. That said: It's a one-trick pony -- it's just fish on rice. I know that it's straight out of Hawaii and no one wants to mess with tradition, but they need a veggie/sauce/extras bar with avocado, cucumber, sheets of nori, wasabi, shoyu sauce, masago, sprouts, some greens. That way you can eat lunch there every day and get something different. Right now I'd go once a week. If they added the "extras," I'd be in there three times a week. It's that good. read more

"Aloha" to Fairhaven's newest restaurant, Aloha Poke. I love they have a great selection of Poke, or raw fish salad, and it was delicious! It is served on a bed of rice and then they add your poke selection on top, and then weigh to determine the price. We ordered both the habanero poke and the Limu Kukui that the cashier recommended. We were also given a nice sample of spicy mayo on the side. Together they were $17.00, which is reasonable for a light, healthy and fresh lunch. I recommend trying this place out- I am certainly looking forward to trying some other flavors! read more

Love this place. Love the freshness of the poke'. Love the staff, the rice, the seasoning that goes on top of the rice, the selection - just love! I would recommend a couple of things though: 1.) Don't wait too long in the day to get your bowl of poke' since the selection dwindles down pretty quickly. 2.) Also, if there's more than just you and another group of people, the line to just order goes rather slowly, but I say, the wait is well worth it. 3.) And if you are adventurous enough, try everything. They do allow you to taste test a sample before you fully commit. They also allow you to select as many different types of poke' to go in your bowl that you want. Just watch the weight, cuz it does get a wee bit pricey as they weigh your selection to determine the cost of your bowl. Live, love, eat Bellingham! read more
