Congrats on your opening day, Aloha Poke!! The fish is absolutely delicious! So, so fresh!! I had the regular bowl with salad, plus 1/4 lb Hamachi and 1/4 lb Tuna - delish! I have to say that the salad was a little dry (romaine, purple cabbage and sweet onion) so be sure to ask for dressing (I didn't know about the dressing until after I was finished). The fish, though, oh my goodness!!!! So fresh and tasty! The hibachi was my favorite. I can't wait to work (eat) my way through all the options! They offer mini- and regular bowls. You choose either rice or salad as a base then they pile the fish on top (sold by the 1/4 lb). Lots of soft drink and beer options in the cooler. Poke is done right. Maybe I'm just a poke snob but Fairhaven Poke got the best poke outside of Hawaii. I don't care about the cost, who can put a price on nostalgia, memories and the taste of home? I usually get a poke bowl which consists of a bed of rice with furikake (don't forget about the furikake, trust me!) with 1/4 pound each of the ginger shoyu, spicy ahi and palu. The last time I was there, they had ogo that was so fresh and crisp as if it was just plucked from the ocean. Where did they there ogo from? Brah, Oahu doesn't have anymore ogo! I found Aloha Poke on Yelp. It was on the cover page of the Bellingham Yelp page. I knew right away, I have to try this place out because it was said they have few selections of poke straight from Hawaii. That means it got to be authentic. Ok, I have never been to Hawaii. So... If you like you can sample before buying. So I came here and got a mini sized poke. Pricing is by weight. You can either get a regular bowl for $1.50 or a mini size bowl for $1.00 and it comes with rice. On top you pay for the Poke weight. I got the: -Ginger Shoyu - this is one of the popular ones. It's straight from Hawaii. I can taste the spicy ginger taste in ii. It had some sesame and a bit of onions with it. -Limu Kukui- This one is a bit fishy. Its probably from the Seaweed. Again this one is the most popular out of all the options. Straight from Hawaii again. -Wasabi Sea Asparagus - straight from Hawaii again. This is my favorite. It has very good flavor to it. Not spicy. Very strong sesame taste to it. -Basil Wasabi Hamachi - Ahi Tuna my favorite fish when its raw. This one has more western spices in it. Not bad You have to get the Ocean Salad. Its so refreshing. So fresh compared to outside at any supermarket. I have to say Poke is delicious. I am impressed that this place is so close to me (in some ways). Definitely worth the trip. Decor is clean and have a good number of tables and seats. It has artwork on sale and on display at the same time. They also sell some goods from Hawaii. It's a small section just right out in front. Good location located in Fairhaven where good food can be found. Right across from the famous Rocket Donut. The poke choices does change each day depending what is coming from Hawaii. read more

This place is good! Just don't come here expecting to make exactly what you want the way you can at most poke places. Proteins are pre mixed with seasonings and sauces. I ate here around 6:45 on a Saturday. They were out of several proteins and musubi. I was still able to get something I liked, but I was definitely disappointed, I love spam musubi! My food was yummy, but a little mismatched because I wanted to have multiple proteins, but they were all pre seasoned/sauces and were not super cohesive. I am accustomed to having some sort of vegetable mixed with my poke, and that wasn't an option here, besides having my fish served over salad. I'd like to see at least cucumber and avocado offered. Fish here tasted high quality, but it is pricey! It's hard to tell how much your meal is going to cost because everything is priced by the pound. You could easily end up ordering a $20 poke bowl. Despite my gripes about this place, I did enjoy my food and will probably return considering it's the only poke place in Bellingham. Service was fast and friendly. read more

I was so excited to try this place being that we are from Hawai'i and poke is hard to find out here! I really dug the vibe of the restaurant. It was pretty minimal but with some plants and a semi "local" feel. Super comfortable. They have quite a variety of poke to choose from. I was disappointed to hear that each person is only allowed two samples. I understand that some people may take advantage or sampling, but it sucks for those of us who want to compare and genuinely want to know whether or not it tastes fresh. I was pretty disappointed with how much poke we actually got in our poke bowl for the price we paid. They weigh everything before hand, but I wasn't looking to pay for a $20 poke bowl. This place is great for a fix, but it really made me miss the $8 bowls you can get back home at Tamura's or Foodland. You get WAY more for WAY less at those places. We chose the ginger ahi and spicy ahi. The spicy ahi was great, but the ginger ahi wasn't very ginger-y. I will say the sushi rice that they used for the bowls was bombbbbb! Even just thinking about it now makes me want to go back for just the rice. They sprinkle a little bit of furikake on the rice, but charge extra if you want more. They had a good variety of hawaiian and Japanese snacks and drinks that you would find back home. We were going to order some mochi ice cream, but they come prepackaged with 3 different flavors. I would rather pick and choose the flavors myself so we passed on that. Might come back in the future, but the price is a huge turn off. read more

I LOVE poke, and I'm fortunate enough to be from San Diego, where poke shops are a plenty. I was really excited to check this place out, mostly due to the variety flavors they had, but left feeling pretty disappointed, especially considering how much i paid for my meal. The poke itself- just okay. They say the ginger shoyu is the most popular flavor...I thought it was just mediocre. The flavor is very subtle. I also tried two other flavors (forgot the names but they tasted bland as well). What really made me rate this place down was the service. The girl that was helping me was unfriendly and didn't offer me any toppings. She seemed annoyed when i asked her for suggestions and samples and it wasn't until after i paid that i saw they had toppings, like sesame seeds, nori, and crunchy garlic. read more

Fairhaven Poke was the first place I ever tried poke, and I've fallen in love ever since! The food is soooo fresh, and there's something for everyone. They have tons of options to create a poke bowl, including a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. The seaweed salad, ahi tuna, and edamame are my all time favorites. The price can add up pretty quickly, but the people working are always happy to let you try something before committing to it, so you'll at least know you'll enjoy it! If you go before 5, they should have most of everything. They usually run a bit low later in the day! read more

It used to be good. Crab salad was dry and they gave less than usual. Firecracker Salmon wasn't made right, it used to be good now it just has Sambal on it. Salad greens were very dry, hardly any dressing added, plus prices went up by 30%. They erased our points in their system. won't be going back. read more

I love any kind of raw fish: poke, sashimi, carpaccio, you name it. With that said, having a poke restaurant in town is great. I have eaten here three times. The quality of the fish they use is great, but I have to say it is highly overpriced. A small bowl of rice with a "modest amount" of fish would add up to $7~$8. It's probably not horrible for lunch, but it's pretty expensive considering the prices of poke in other cities. If they lower the price and keep the quality, I would give 5 stars. Finally, this is a comment and suggestion to the restaurant. I don't want to sound like nitpicking, but I was turned off by the way how my poke bowl was served on my last visit. She packed the rice so hard! You fluff up the rice and keep it in a wooden bowl with a cloth over it to keep it warm and fluffy. I have frequented this place since they opened and have never had a bad meal. The fish is always fresh and the ingredients are awesome! I usually get a mini bowl and get a pinch of several kinds of fish as well as kimchi and a couple of shrimp. Really good. Went in and got the aloha bowl because we were in a bit of a rush. Surprisingly filling and really good for only $9. I could see it getting very expensive if you don't keep track of what you're getting in your head though. The staff were very kind and understanding that we had never been before. This has been one of my favorite places for a while now, as their food is delicious and seemingly good quality, and I have actually become quite a regular, which makes this review extremely disappointing to write. Both my friend and I got extremely severe food poisoning after eating here -- to the point where I was sent to the ER and hospitalized and she was sick for days. I notified the restaurant as soon as I was aware of our reactions to the food, and they apologized but did not take any further action. There was no concern for testing on the food or any assurance that they were verifying that their food was safe to eat. There was an extreme lack of customer service and lack of concern for health. I am extremely disappointed, because I feel like I can no longer eat here. Their blatant lack of concern for the health of their customers and the safety of their food is unfortunate. And I can no longer recommend this place to anyone as a safe place to get quality food. It is delicious, sure-- but eat here at your own risk, as you may end up in the hospital like I did. read more

This place is fantastic, tons of options and you get to make it exactly as you like it! I went with the mini bowl with half rice, half salad. I topped that with ginger shoyu salmon and spicy mayo ahi. Perfectly seasoned and very fresh! The rice was spot on, not too sticky or sweet and not undercooked or crunchy. I love the fact that you pay by weight, so I'm not forced to order a bunch of food that I'll never eat (and poke isn't exactly something I want to take to go and snack on for a couple of days)...just the perfect portion for YOU. When I saw my fellow Yelpsters checking into Aloha Poke I knew I had to get there that day to try it out. Poke bowls were unknown to me until this past April when I was introduced to them on Oahu's Northshore and immediately became a fan. There was a line of people waiting to place their orders as I eagerly reviewed the menu. Service is friendly and fast. I ordered the ginger shoyu poke with ahi and avocado. I had a great first experience at Aloha Poke! I went around 4:30 pm on a Sunday and they were not busy and very helpful. I ended up getting ginger shoyu, drunken scallops and seaweed salad on top of half salad and half rice. The scallops were definitely my favorite! I plan on going back earlier in the day when their case is more full, as I've seen it can be loaded in other photos. But I was please with the options than they had today. Overall it was delicious highly recommended! Update: 5/12/2017 Today Aloha Poke let me down big time. I always question how consistent and restaurant can be, and that really determines there over all success. Today they were out of large bowls, out of to go sauce cups, and there deli case was extremely, extremely limited. It was a joke, they charged me the same, but gave me less food(rice and salad) in a smaller container and the salad and rice were stacked and not side by side. They even tried to charge me for the dressing on the side as extra sauce. Not to mention they did not have a single one of my favorites (drunken scallops or octopus) I ended up getting shrimp and it was pretty good. What a letdown. read more

She seemed annoyed at having to explain to us how it worked and also felt the need to snidely remark that all poke places are different, this isn't your typical "subway style" poke place, and that well, they were from Hawaii... so... Poke was far from the best I've had. Won't be returning. Now I am reading other reviews and see that they have toppings?! Why wasn't I offered these? I love me some crunchy garlic and sesame seeds. This is the first time i have ever eaten poke, and if it's all this good, it's going to become a regular part of my restaurant exploration. The server was friendly, knowledgeable about the ingredients and popularity of dishes/combinations, and offered suggestions based on my questions. Everything was fresh, and the fish was the high quality i am used to from good sushi. The ocean salad was the best seaweed salad i can remember. My friend and i chose a more private table in the back but there are also some close to the huge windows up front, for people watching. Their bottled sodas are a little expensive, but i don't think it's more than usual for chic shopping areas. The table was also a little sticky, but that's also expected in a bus-your-own-table establishment. I had three different types of poke and i cannot wait to go back and try more. read more
