During our recent road trip, our family stayed at two different Fairfield Inn & Suite locations and noted a significant difference in the satisfaction of our stays. For comparison reasons, the other location we were at was the one in Syracuse Carrier Circle (our preferred location). Starting on a positive note, I loved that this hotel was right beside an authentic Mexican restaurant. We were in a bit of a pickle about what to eat in the area as it was getting late so we didn't want to debate too long, in case things would start to close. It was very convenient that they had such a nice spot within walking distance. Upon entry, the Ithaca lobby is newer looking with its updated decor. The breakfast seating area is about the same size in both hotels but I found the Syracuse location to be more comfortable as it was less cramped and less busy during breakfast hours. On the note of breakfast, the breakfast at the Syracuse location was significantly better. To compare, Syracuse had the following advantages: - Their mini fridge was available at all hours of the day, filled with individual packages of Chobani yogurt, Silk soy products (original and chocolate), milk (whole, 2%, and low fat chocolate), as well as some fruit cups and apple sauce. Versus the Ithaca location which has their fridge turned after breakfast so people couldn't access it, they had less variety and less stock. - Syracuse offers two waffle machines (with timers which were helpful), with a runnier yet fluffier waffle batter. At the Ithaca location, there was a constant line of 2-4 people waiting for the single machine and without the timer, people were often confused about when their waffles would be ready. - Overall, there are more items available at the Syracuse location: hard boiled eggs, Nutella packets, low fat cream cheese, single packets of Delight creamers, bananas, to name a few. - Despite breakfast hours being 6:30-9:30 am, the Syracuse location extends their breakfast for a bit after, keeping their stock, and leaves out stable items (i.e. the mini fridge) out for people to grab n' go versus the Ithaca location which stops stocking items in the last hour hence if you go for breakfast closer to 9 am, there's not much for you to eat. - the Ithaca location was also less organized with their breakfast. People were excited to get some cheese with their eggs, but got disappointed when they opened the container to find a compote of sorts. In terms of the rooms, they're quite similar but the Ithaca location has a smaller bathroom with a more outdated look. The shower/bathtub does not drain quickly enough compared to the rate at which the water is coming out, which meant you were often standing in a pool of water. My biggest issue with the room is the outlets. We had plugged in multiple phones to charge, checked that they were all "charging" before going to bed but when we woke up the next morning, only 1 out of 3 were fully charged, with the other 2 only having a slight increase compared to when they were first plugged in. These suspicions were confirmed when I went to curl my hair the next morning - midway, I was confused why my straightener was no longer hot. It was still plugged in but no longer working. Even when I re-plugged it, it didn't work. At both locations, the rooms are lit with mainly lamps as there are no lights on the ceilings. Overall, lighting was suboptimal. The beds were comfortable, comparable at both locations. I did find the rooms to trend on the colder side, even when we turned the temperature up. We also noticed that the elevators at this location were particularly slow. Often times, it was faster to take the stairs if we weren't holding many heavy items. Something that wasn't part of the hotel's control but did ruin our experience was when we first got to the hotel, for all about 15 minutes, we got a call from the front desk to tell us that the room below complained about a "banging noise" from our room. We thought this was absolutely ridiculous since we had just arrived and did nothing of the sort. read more

Nice amenities but it has seen better days... In need of a little sprucing up. Covid protocols seem to be in place... Some issues with the room included inability to control the temperature .. It was rather chilly when we arrived and even though we increased the temperature on the wall thermostat it never got warm in the room. Fortunately we had a blanket in the car that we brought in so that we would be warm enough to sleep. Three very thin blankets/sheets were the only bed covering. While they provide a nice shampoo,conditioner & body wash in the shower and larger size containers our conditioner was empty. Kind of a bummer to realize that once you've already started the shower. Also it was impossible to turn the shower on without getting wet Shower floor is a bit slippery when soap is on it We didn't say anything to the front desk as we did not want people in the room fiddling with the thermostat due to Covid read more

We stayed here when visiting the Finger Lakes. The person who checked us in was friendly and gave us water bottles. The breakfast options were decent and complimentary. They had a couple hot options as well as toast, cereal, and muffins. I liked the coffee as well. The rooms were standard. However, the walls were paper thin. We could hear all the noise coming from the room next to us at night. We complained to the front desk about the noise level but they didn't do anything so we got no sleep that night. read more

I'm seeing some more negative reviews on here, and I have to say we did not have that experience. We were glad not to have to stay downtown because a lot of the hikes and coffee shops are on the other side of town, so this location is equidistant to both areas of Ithaca, including most of the routes to all the waterfalls and hikes. We had a super quick check-in, and Patrice, the manager, was so attentive to detail. We could tell that they were short staffed, but she was on top of it and made our stay incredibly comfortable. We were there for 3 nights and we actually preferred this hotel over the more boutique B&B type hotels downtown because sometimes you just want to have a nice clean hotel room without having to deal with creaky floors, or noisy neighbors. I'd book here again in a heartbeat, and this location is lucky to have a manager like Patrice keeping things together. We were visiting from New York City and we were totally happy with our stay. read more

What a total shat hole. Stayed on the 4th floor which is supposedly the remodeled floor - apparently 2nd floor is under construction. The carpet in hallway is disgusting which paint drippings and sheet rock dust. Elevator has sheet rock dusk hand prints all over the stainless stew walls. In the room, paint over spray and dust on carpet where a sweep of the vacuums didn't reach. Towels old, worn and hard. Other than that the place is 5 stars. read more

We booked a room here on 4/19/24 as we were attending the open house at Ithaca College the next morning. There are several hotels in the area but this was the only one where we could find availability. Evidently they were aware of this and put a price gauging plan into place. My son and I stayed in a regular room, king bed, no frills for $470 for ONE night. I have stayed in NYC on a Friday night for half that cost! The hotel itself is completely average and in desperate need of a face lift. As we had no other choice we got stuck paying this ludicrous amount for an average hotel in the middle of a small town in NY State. The view from our room proved even more dismal (pictures attached). I'll refrain from even commenting on pooling, dirty water on roofs. Would absolutely NEVER stay at a Fairfield Inn again. In these trying times where everyone is living paycheck to paycheck and trying to feed their families, this business saw an opportunity to take advantage of guests and milk as much out of them as they could... and that's exactly what they did. Arrived here about 30 mins after a storm knocked out power in the area including at this hotel. The staff-especially Patrice and Christine- were amazing. They gave us a flashlight and got us into our room even though they couldn't yet check us in or give us a key. (They had printed out the guest check ins just before losing power) They kept their cool as the temperature and stress rose. They were amazing! And also this Marriott property is very nice and well kept up. read more

BEWARE! Your property is not safe here! I was a visitor to Ithaca to enjoy nature and the outdoors -- hiking and biking. I stayed at the Fairfield Inn by Marriot on Elmira road, and unfortunately learned the hard way that there is a serious crime issue in the area. Overnight, two bicycles that were extremely well secured and locked to my vehicle were stolen from the hotel parking lot. Another guest had the same issue that very night. The front desk was dismissive but called the Ithaca PD, who informed me that this has been a recurring issue due to "The Jungle" encampment located just across the street. The front desk hotel staff also later acknowledged to me that this was a recurring issue. With that said, the hotel is claiming that have no liability as "Innkeepers" for any property in the parking lot. I believe they are partially responsible due to negligence on their part: The hotel owes a standard duty of reasonable care to its guests, their breech of this duty of reasonable care by acting negligently, caused our damage. The hotel owner knew of the dangerous condition. The hotel owner did not warn us of the condition. And we did not know this condition exists. The hotel has also been claiming zero liability as they have a "sign posted". It is important to note that there are no conspicuously posted signs. When I reviewed the property, it was recognized that the sign I could find was not visible if a car was parked in the spot. There is no signage at the entrance to the lot, etc, etc. The front desk staff informed me that this issue has been ongoing for over a month. The next night, we noticed a guest that had bikes on their car and asked the front desk to notify them -- but they said they can't, since they don't even take basic car registration information at checkin. They had no way to inform them. The hotel is being dismissive to us and will not compensate us in any manner. We sustained over $2500 in losses and damages. Marriott Inc. has informed me that the property states they will not compensate us because they do not want to accept liability and said that if I'd like to challenge this, lawyers will need to be involved. The hotel's negligence is ruining tourism and the reputation of Ithaca. The most basic steps and measures could have been taken by the hotel, but they're acting negligently. They had a ton of other signage on the sliding doors at the entrance, but nothing whatsoever about protecting property, etc. BEWARE! The new Fairfields are excellent. This one was only 6 weeks old when I stayed. Nice walk in shower which is great for new hotels. Who really wants a bathtub? Staff was very friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions. They have a nice pool. Fitness center has 1 elliptical and 2 treadmills. That's it. Internet service is a bit slow when there are more than a few people logged on. Breakfast was nice. Hot scrambled eggs, oatmeal, bacon, cold cereals, fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, coffee. Fry your own waffles. I didn't see the typical Jimmy Dean sandwiches they have at other Fairfields. read more

The young lady who works at the desk is sweet and friendly. The older lady who works at the desk is not. no cleaning of rooms of course during the virus but then if you want towels you have to go to the housekeeping room yourself to get them because there's no housekeepers anywhere. The breakfast is a bottle of water and a muffin. We took a walk around the building and saw piles of cigarette butts outside but don't know where they came from or why they weren't cleaned up. At checkin I shared that we planned to hike and bike during our stay in Ithaca. Unfortunately, we woke up to learn both bikes were stolen off of our car and the bike rack was damaged. The front desk staff was not surprised, seems to happen often and offered to call the police for us. We ran into another guest who was patiently waiting for the police to arrive bc his bike was also stolen. So bad not because of comfortability or functionabilty but because of the lack of customer service provided by both the local management team and Marriott Corporate when I found a very small bed bug like spider crawling on me in my bed on November 8, 2018. I am a Marriott Reward Platinum Member. I have spent over 75 nights in Marriott owned hotels in 2018. I thought I felt something prior to going to sleep but could not find anything on me or the bed but upon waking up in the morning felt something crawling on the back of my shoulder. This time I was able to pull it off me. It really creeped me out as I thought it was a bed bug. I replaced some index cards I keep in a sandwich baggy that I use for presentation purposes with the bed bug like spider. I could have gone ranting down making alot of noise publically when I went to the front desk. Instead I asked them while other people were right there if I could talk to them in a more private manner. I truly thought it was a bed bug so I did not want to kill their business and make a big public ordeal about it. We went into the back room behind closed doors and I showed them the bed bug like spider in the baggy in a very quiet private manner. I have no idea if they were being truthful but they assured me it was not a bed bug. I have no idea on whether to trust their assesment. I took pictures and let them keep the baggy with the bed bug like spider inside of it. I told them right there that I was not sure about that and felt very creeped out about staying in their hotel. I told them I expected not a credit to the credit card nor anything local credit at that hotel as I use a work credit card that I personally choose to use Marriott owned hotels as compared to other hotels and I do not live locally so neither scenario would benefit me personally. I told them as a result of my loyalty that I wanted and expected a free night or weekend or a gift certificate of some kind to a Marriott owned hotel that I could use anywhere. I thought it was not asking much considering how many nights I have used Marriot owned hotels this year and the fact that for all I know it could have been an actual bed bug. I would think that bed bugs is the number one complaint that all hotels do not want showing up on public reviews. I know when I went directly from spending the night in Ithaca to spending the very next night in Providence RI at another Marriott owned hotel that I slept terrible and felt pretty skeeved out the whole night. Beyond this time even though I have had many things I have not liked in my stays at Marriot owned hotels I have never once complained or tried to get free nights by making things up. This was not made up! I tried to be discreet with this issue. I followed up with both the local people first when I did not hear back from them and since, with corporate two times without a response before writing this review. Marriott owned hotels are supposed to have a reputation as being a well respected higher end chain. What I did not realize is how little they care about customer service on the back end when you have an issue. It has been 10 days since my bed bug incident. Including when I originally let them know, I have reached out twice on a local level and twice on a corporate level and yet still no response. Zero. Nothing. Just so bad. So here I am on a Sunday morning writing this review. I have spent another three nights in Marriott owned hotels since this incident. If an individual who by the end of the year will have spent over 90 nights in 2018 in Marriott owned hotels cannot get even a sniff of quality customer service when what I would think would be the thing (a possible bed bug issue saw at one of their Marriott owned hotels) they want most to be kept on the down low, I can only imagine how a customer who has no loyalty to Marriott would be treated? Not well would be my guess. I would definately stay away from the Fairfield Inn on Elmira Road in Ithaca. In my opinion the possibility of them having bed bugs is too much to risk when you have many other choices of quality hotels to stay at. The fact taht they have a local management team that does not care about customer service is the most surprising. What I have unfortunately found with this experience is that the Marriott Corporation is all welcoming when it comes to accepting your money and reservations and revenue on the front side but when it comes to handling customer service issues on the back side to loyal Marriott Rewards Members no less, they just to put it bluntly, suck! I was not asking for the world. I was simply asking for and expecting that it would have been a no brainer to give me a gift certificate or a night or weekend to spend at any Marriott owned hotel. TL;DR I had a great experience with this hotel. I would definitely use them again. Everything from reserving the room to checking out of the room was a breeze. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was great (especially the king-size bed) and most importantly, clean. I had some food delivered and the front desk made sure it was swiftly taken up to my room. I was able to store the leftovers in the mini-fridge and reheat them later in the microwave. On my first stay at a Marriott property (I am a Gold member with Hilton Honors), I must say I had the worst experience ever. I booked this property because it was close to my meetings, the building is new, and I wanted to give Marriott a chance. Here were the problems with my stay: 1) The parking lot and lobby are sloppy and dirty 2) I woke up looking to shower, I let the water run for about 10 minutes but it stays ice cold. 3) i went to the front desk and inquired about the hot water issue, immediately the person there (Jack Murphy, General Manager) started out with...."what if I give you a compensation in rewards points?" As a business traveler, I was insulted; I am not looking for points compensation, I wanted to take a shower and get ready for my meetings! About 15 minutes later, he came back stating he tested the next room and the water is fine. I went over to that room, 1 minute into the shower (which was luke-warm at most), the water turns ice cold again. LUCKILY i was able to wash off all the shampoo. Even in October, the Ithaca area is really cold in the mornings (~40 degrees). I couldn't waste anymore time so i decided to just get dressed and leave the property. 4) The GM Jack Murphy stated that this was solely a problem with the distribution of hot water since many customers showers in the morning. WHAT IS THIS? A ROAD SIDE INN?! He assured me that he will compensate my night in miles to my account in 1 to 2 business days. A full week has passed and I have yet to see anything. IF THE PROPERTY IS NOT READY, FAIRFIELD SHOULD NOT BE ACCOMMODATING THAT MANY CUSTOMERS. IF THE MANAGEMENT IS NOT UP TO IT, THEY SHOULD NOT BE PROMOTED TO THAT POSITION. read more

Location: 4 stars - conveniently situated near restaurants and retail, though it's several miles from Cornell if that's where you're headed Parking: 4 stars - we pretty much had our choice of spots during our stay, but there weren't many cars at all. I could see the lot filling up quickly on crowded nights. Lobby: 5 stars - bright, spacious and comfortable Service: 5 stars - greeted right away by a nice, helpful desk attendant. Room: 3.5 stars - while it was comfortable enough for a family of four (for only one night), the temperature was warm and it kept increasing even though the heat was off. It was 40* outside and we had to turn on the air conditioning to bring the room temp down from 80* and climbing. And the free WiFi? Horrible and practically useless! About 2.4Mbs speed, and even email had a hard time loading on devices. It's clear they want to force guests to pay for their "enhanced broadband internet". Don't plan on doing much web surfing or streaming unless you want to pay extra. Bathroom: 3 stars - yes, it's nice and large, but the tub drain didn't want to stay open, so the tub kept filling with water during showers. Also, there's no exhaust fan, so the bathroom fills with steam and stays that way. Amenities: 2.5 stars - small pool, no hot tub that we were able to find, and a small basic workout area. Food: 5 stars: nothing special, but about what you'd expect at a Marriott property. read more

I can't comment on price, because I was in Cornell on business through my company. However, I found this hotel to be pretty nice. The place is about a 15 minute drive to Cornell and barely 10 minutes from downtown Ithaca. It's situated a bit past a shopping center with grocery store, drug store, and places like Moes, Panera, Chipotle, Five Guys, etc... The rooms are a nice size with a fridge and microwave. I was in a small suite with a queen bed and a sitting room with couch and 2nd tv. The hotel and amenities all look new and the staff was very friendly. Of definitely stay here again. read more

I stayed at Fairfield for a wedding. Amenities are fine - there is an indoor pool and computer center. Breakfast is decent with waffles, eggs, meat (sausage), yogurt, juice and is included with stay. Areas that could use improvement- Check in times. The hotel says 4 pm but out of the 3 rooms we had, only 1 was ready by 4. The other 2 were not ready until 5 ish. No apology for this. We stayed for 3 days. On average, each room key was deactivated 3 times per day - so had to go to front desk to deactivate about 9 times in total during 3 day stay. Given multiple weddings, this could be a bit of wait at times. Room service was on and off, some days had to specifically call down to request it even if we didn't leave a sleep sign on door. On days when we got back late and it wasn't done, we just left it as is. Carpet was also wet when we got in room but at that point did not want to talk to hotel since it took so long to get rooms that we just used flip flops. Overall do not recommend staying here. read more

Our family stayed there during the evenings of 4/24/19 and 4/25/19. The hotel was OK. The best thing about it was the hot shower. This hotel needs some work to bring it up to Marriot standards. There was very little toilet paper when we checked in. I thought we were OK, but my wife got sick one evening and we needed to call the front desk in the middle of the night to bring us some TP. They also did not replenish the shampoo one evening. The breakfast was OK but there was little to no fruit when we went to have some food. We were one of the first ones to get there so they weren't in the middle of replenishing what was just eaten. The lobby was spacious, and the rooms were clean. I would consider staying here again. I guess they just need some assistance getting up to Marriot standards. read more

Super clean and comfortable room, plus the staff was incredibly nice. They greeted us as we checked in and let us choose any floor we wanted, joked around with us and made us feel very welcome. The downsides were that the bathroom wallpaper in 425 looked dirty and the mixed fruit was completely empty by 8:45am for the continental breakfast and never got refilled, but I guess the massive pile of bacon made up for that. Overall it was a great stay, I have upcoming reservations again for the coveted graduation weekend and I am looking forward to coming back. read more

Brand new hotel opened over the summer! Rooms are clean place is bright and fresh! Management is very nice as well as all staff, breakfast is hit or miss. I don't care for the bacon or the sausage, the eggs are pretty good! The gym is good but the con is that the built in TV volume doesn't work unless you have headphones! This is our corporate hotel we stay at every time we are in the area! Its also central to restaurants, shopping, etc etc. Wifi is very fast, beds are extremely comfy too! Tip ask for a room in the far back AWAY from traffic or you wont be able to sleep! read more

As soon as I walked into the lobby of the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Ithaca I was comfortable and new my family and I were in for a great stay. The lobby was spacious and tastefully decorated in and cool and modern fashion that included a lovely seating area and business center. There was a table that offered papers as well as guide and maps. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that it was kept so tidy, because that's not always the case the staff at here was on top of it. The breakfast area was just across the lobby separated by a walkway. It's a shame there wasn't more outdoor seating since the weather was so nice (It was the middle of July), but I guess when you only have 3 months or so of lovely weather and the most of the time it's cold/winter that's not a huge priority. The breakfast seating area was also a large space (which we found out later was necessary) and easy to maneuver through. I know it may sound cheesy, but I love that there were options depending on how you like your seats when you dine. There were booths, half booths/half chairs, tables and chairs and a giant bar with high chair/ bar stools- it sounds like a lot but it was brilliantly designed to have clean lines and be effective and efficient. It was spaced in a way that weren't falling over the other guests, but if you wanted to strike up a friendly conversation you could. The bonus that was was really helpful for us was that they had (two) VERY CLEAN wooden high chairs for our youngest child. The breakfast itself was very nice they had 2 waffle machines although during weekends I'm sure they could use 3. My older daughter loved that they had an option to make blueberry waffles- we had those EVERYDAY. In fact they had the EXACT same breakfast every day- waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, 4 choices of dry cereal, oatmeal, toast, bagels, English muffins, apples, bananas and prepackaged muffins. It was good, but a tad more variety i.e. different hot foods on different days would have been welcomed. I did love the coffee and appreciated that they left it out all day. The rest room off of the lobby was impeccable- so clean. And again it's the little things that mean SO much. They even had complimentary sanitary supplies for women instead of a) that God awful machine or b) even worse- nothing. The pool was also on the lobby level and right next door to the gym. Both were smaller than I expected, but nice, clean and they served their purpose. I LOVED our room. Initially we were supposed to have two queens but because we had a schedule change, which they graciously accommodated, we ended up with a King and a pullout. It worked perfectly because the location of the pullout sofa was essentially in an entirely other room; so it could function during the day as an office with a desk, a sofa and it's own television OR in our case as a playroom. Then at night we'd pull the bed out and that's where the kids slept- well, most nights. But our bed, the King bed, was so big and lush and comfortable it almost didn't matter that we had little visitors some nights. Our room was also fitted with a microwave and mini fridge (which with babies you NEED) the closet was small, but sufficed as did the drawers. There were enough little nooks and spaces beside the beds and in the room to put out bags and things. I was extremely pleased with the hip clean design of the room and the numerous power outlets- so helpful when you're traveling with laptops, iPads, diffusers, etc... The bathroom was one of the new bathrooms that have been converted so it's just a giant shower instead of a tub with a shower in it. I'm sure it makes perfect sense for the average traveler I just had to be more careful when bathing our babies (1 year and 2.5 years) so that they didn't slip. The hotel's staff from the front desk attendants, the kitchen attendants to the cleaning crew/maids were absolutely lovely. I have nothing but praise for them. While the hotel itself was pretty wonderful the only thing I was pleased with more was it's central location to things. It was literally just up the road from several restaurants including familiar chains and fast food as well as some local restaurants. We stayed for a weekend with a large group, and all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating whenever we needed anything. We really appreciated the beautiful aesthetic and cleanliness of this new hotel in the rooms, lobby, and breakfast area, which we also found very conducive to using as a workspace with their fast WiFi. They were conveniently located to many restaurants and stores as well as Cornell. We will definitely be staying with them again in the future! read more
