I went a few years ago. It's such a welcoming and unique place. The rooms are super well and clean, they have a nice interior and it's a beautiful place for a wedding. There's a trail that is nice to walk while you stay. It was a surprise in the past and I was super pleased, I recommend than any other Inn or hotel in Ithaca. read more

La Tourelle is a lovely hotel! It's only a five minute drive from downtown Ithaca and it's super easy to grab an uber if you don't feel like driving. We were also lucky enough to find a wine tour company that included La Tourelle as a pick up stop. The Finger Lakes are very spread out, and you are about a 45 minute ride from the wineries on Cayuga / Seneca Lake, so just something to be aware of! The Pros - -The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was strong. -The hotel is pretty large, especially considering how many small B&Bs are in the area. It wasn't tough to find a more last minute reservation! -The complimentary wine hour was stellar. Free local wines and cheeses for an hour every day. I'm all about it. -There is a bistro on the premise which was solid. Of course there are many more eateries downtown, but for a quick meal this was a nice option. -The hotel shares a property with Firelight glamping which was fun to check out. You are also right at the trailhead for the Buttermilk Falls and once you make it to the bottom you can call a hotel shuttle to pick you up. The only con is really that the hotel is a bit older / dated. Our patio was dingey and I think they could stand to make some easy upgrades there, especially for new patio chairs. Overall, it's still a really nice resort and I would definitely consider again for future stays in Ithaca. read more

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during a quiet June when school was already out. One of the nicer things about La Tourelle was that it was a few miles away from all of the drama of downtown Ithaca and about 45 minutes to Watkins Glen, NY. The hotel is dog friendly and we loved seeing some of the very well behaved and friendly pooches out for a stroll on the property. La Tourelle was quaint, quiet, charming, and overall a very nice experience. There is a coffee and tea bar with 24/7 access as well as freshly cooked chocolate chip cookies in the evening. Each guest receives a free alcoholic beverage at the bar in the evening. There is a nice woodburning fireplace in the lobby for ambiance in the fall and winter. There are plenty of brochures in the lobby to help you decide where to go and when. My wife and I stayed in a corner room on the second floor. The floor is elevator accessible. The room was oversized as was the bathroom. The television, air conditioning, refrigerator, lights, bathroom, shower, all worked to perfection. The room was clean and nicely decorated. There were people staying in the rooms next to us and near us but we never heard them. The entire staff was friendly and warm, including the housekeeping staff who made sure our room was clean and kept up with supplies. We visited during a time when they were having their parking lot repaved, but no work was being done on the weekend. We did not partake in any spa treatments. It's a bit on the pricey side but well worth it, However, cheaper than other places we have stayed. We would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

My wife and I have stayed here twice while visiting our daughter attending college nearby. The staff have all been extremely warm and attentive, making a connection with us whether just checking in, asking for area recommendations or sharing their winery knowledge over a glass at happy hour. Really loved the views and beautiful property here, if you couldn't tell from my 100 pics here. We didn't get a chance to make it to the buttermilk falls trail (well, more like we're lazy/ not hikers lol but we can pretend it was a timing thing!) but the ponds and gazebo and even their garden were nice to stroll through. Fall was the perfect time to visit with the foliage, especially from our balcony. Loved that they had an amazing restaurant on premises and a spa. I loved every breakfast daily at their Bistro restaurant; they had the option for indoor or outdoor dining back in October for covid safety which we appreciated. All the waitresses were very sweet to us, as were any of the hotel staff at the guest services desk. The room decor was a bit quaint but still liked the look of the hardwood floors. The gas fireplace is always a win and I switched off between there and the balcony often while reading. Wish they had more cozy chairs, I think I was using the plastic ones from the balcony to lounge by the fire. Great location for this hotel too- we were very close to plenty of waterfalls and the colleges and restaurants. read more

I am an author and words come easy to me BUT there are noT enough words to describe this hotel. suffice it to say that they have left nothing out. just the drawings in the breakfast room made my stay worthwhile. Every day I took my sister in San Francisco on a tour with the camera on my phone to show her how magnificent and cultured this place is. it is so refreshing in todays society to know there are still people who know how to do things right. For starters the hotel is very dated-as you can see in the photos below it does not appear to have been updated since the 80s. For upwards of $300 for one night I was very disappointed in the lackluster decor, as well as the state of the bathroom which looked as though it had come directly from an economy hotel. Aside from the outward appearance of the room, the run down halls (the shining comes to mind when walking down the hall), and the musty smell that came from the room when we opened the door, what really got me was the lack of cleanliness. Oh sure at first glance the rooms appear clean, but upon closer inspection I noticed a layer of dust on everything. The curtains were musty and the bathroom windowsills looked like they had never been wiped down. The corners of the bathroom had spiderwebs in them, and there were also webs in the corners of the shower ceiling. The sink had a dead insect in it and a ring of rust? around it. The soap dish in the shower was dirty, and the skylight in the bathroom was covered in insects. Flies were a constant throughout the common areas of the hotel and one had taken up residence in our room as well. In fact, the wine we got from the hotel happy hour couldn't be finished because I set the glass down in my room and when I came back a few minutes later two flies had drowned themselves in it. The coffee maker was gross and clearly has not been used in a long time or hadn't been cleaned ever. Below you'll see water stains and a thick layer of dust on the inside of the machine where the coffee pod goes. For the price I was surprised that the room had cartons of water but they came with a cost. We chose to fill our own refillable bottles in the lobby instead. Additionally the housekeeping staff was very loud in the morning before checkout and there were several working in the hall and rooms around our. We witnessed them swearing and shouting to one another as we returned from the spa. Something else I find very upsetting is the piles of clean linens and towels that were left outside rooms that they were waiting to make up once guests checked out. You'll see a photo below of the pile that was outside our door for when we left. I was disgusted at the thought of towels and lines sitting on the dirty floor with multiple people walking by while waiting to change over the rooms. Additionally there were bags of dirty laundry left all over the halls. That is something a guest should never see. The bed and pillows were fine and decently comfortable but the linens were old and grayed. Not plush or thick. The robes were scratchy and made of towel like material that didn't make for a spa like experience. The front desk staff were very polite and kind with no issues there, and the happy hour and snacks and drinks available in the Lobby was a nice touch however I worry about how fresh everything is when seeing the layers of dust and cobwebs in the room. We took advantage of the spa steam room and sauna as well as the tranquility room which was a nice bonus for those that stay however it still does not justify the cost of the hotel room. Advertising as a spa resort hotel is a stretch. We could've stayed in town closer to everything and spent the same or less and had much more updated amenities and cleanliness. Our reservation came with two breakfasts at the bistro attached to the hotel which was a decent meal consisting of fruit, juice and coffee or tea, a pastry and entree. Gratuity was also included. The meal was good and the restaurant was pretty clean if not outdated. The bathrooms at the restaurant smelled terrible and were extremely outdated and frankly gross. Had I used the bathroom before our meal I would've walked out of the restaurant. It looked and smelled like something you'd see in a dive bar or cabin in the woods. Clearly they haven't maintained the bistro or updated it either. I'm extremely disappointed that the reviews of this hotel are mostly positive - I'm not sure how other people are not bothered by what we experienced. I've done a lot of traveling and this hotel was by far one of the most disappointing and overpriced places I've stayed. We will not be returning nor will we be recommending to friends. The food is consistently good. I get the full breakfast and it comes with coffee or tea, juice, a pastry, a fruit cup, and an entry (some of which come with an extra side). It's about $21 for the full breakfast which is reasonable for all the food you get. The service is friendly and it's a nice atmosphere. This was not my first stay at La Tourelle, and it won't be my last. One of the ladies in my golf group was having a milestone birthday and we wanted to do something special to commemorate it. I thought of a "Spa Weekend" and immediately La Tourelle came to mind! Their Relax and Rejuvenate package was the perfect gift- ( for ALL of us) We arrived on a rainy day with a little time to stretch and unwind in our robes and chose the "Fireside Lounge" over the "Waterfall Lounge" prior to our treatments. The soft music, fireplace, lounges and tea put us in the perfect zone for our rejuvenation massages and facial - we were thoroughly transformed after that. We stayed in the Mickey Suite- a charming farmhouse vibe with plenty of room for the four of us. What an amazing gem to stay in. This was the 10th time we stayed at this hotel/inn which is full of charm. A wood burning fire place in the lobby accompanied by complimented wine tasting each evening makes it special. The rooms are a bit out dated but clean and well cared for. Don't stay the "Pet Friendly" rooms as they are as about comfortable as a dorm room. Noisy. You are in the basement level, with outside door right next to your room and the door gets slammed shut a dozen times an hour, day and night. Not to mention the noise from other guests next to you. We killed a few bugs, there was/is an accumulation of dirt, dog hair and treats underneath the furniture, which if was moved while vacuuming would be taken care of... We enjoyed our stay at La Tourelle. We are from Florida and it was that February time when the pretty snow melted and it was kind of wet and yuck outside, so I imagine the setting would be more amazing with either snow or in the summer. It's an odd place in that it seems like a family run place trying to be upscale. Hit or miss on some of the staff. First greeter at check-in was very flatline, but the bar tender at happy hour was great, and the woman who checked us out was much cheerier. We wandered the grounds and checked out the barn and frozen pond. Our room with two queens or kings was huge. Lots of space. I've stayed at a lot of high end hotels, so this was nice but not high end. We had an enjoyable time and the value was good for what we received, so if we are back in the area we would stay again and recommend it. read more

My hubby and I did Sunday brunch on the deck. The food was fantastic! I had the eggs Benedict which had fresh dill on the top. Thr eggs were perfectly gooey and the sauce balanced with lemon. My hubby got the Breakfast in the Cup and really enjoyed it. We both got breakfast potatoes with our meals and they were crispy on the outside and well seasoned. The service was also very good. My family and I stayed in the Yellow Barn for one week during my daughter's graduation from Cornell. It was a perfect spot for us to relax and talk after busy days on campus, at the wineries and after long hikes. The beds are all really comfortable and the staff was all very kind and helpful. It was lovely to sit on the grass in the morning to watch the geese and ducks. We also ate breakfast on the grass, next to the pond on a couple of occasions. It was also a perfect shady spot to read a few chapters of my book while waiting for the younger people to wake up and get ready for the day. We took advantage of the complimentary happy hour a few days before venturing out to our dinners and evening adventures. Attended a lovely wedding here and would love a reason to return because I slept in the most amazing bed in the entire world. The rooms were gorgeous. Apparently it was "leaf-peeper" season in the Finger Lakes and I would know because I peeped the shit outta those leaves. There are farmhouses and hiking trails that lead to waterfalls on the premises! The breakfast at the Cafe here was incredible. It's $11.95 per person for the "buffet" which featured the freshest baked goods and amazing coffee, but also anything off the main menu from omelets to waffles. They even made me some poached eggs. The lobby is extremely chill with tons of bookshelves and artifacts and photo albums of the nearby Buttermilk Falls. The computer is extremely slow, but there's free coffee round the clock and an "honor bar" where you can sign out bottles of wine, some from the winery there, for which there are tours on Saturdays. Another huge highlight was the August Moon Spa. If you book a massage during the week, you get a free 30 minute soak in the private baths in every spa room. I would absolutely recommend la Tourelle as a place to stay if you are going to be in Ithaca, especially in autumn. read more

Like a piece of France moved to the Ithaca countryside, La Tourelle is much more a country inn & event space than a standard roadside hotel. Cozy lobby includes a self-serve honor-system bar, or take your drink out back for a round of giant chess. Also on the property is a spa and a bistro-style restaurant. In season you can go "glamping," camping in a big tent with glamour, whatever that means lol. Free wifi, free coffee in the lobby too, but parking is a little thin. Our king room was the corner unit, very generous size, great calming field views from two windows, windows that actually have screens and opened! Room also was equipped with a table for two. Free Keurig coffee, pricey snacks and massage oils in a basket. Marble vanity, another window and a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, no extra charge. Bed was a hint soft, great. No USB charging station but had a HD tv with too many channels and a DVD player. You check in at a real desk with chairs, nice. Everything looked in excellent condition to me including carpets, I didn't see any of the problems that some yelpers have complained about. For a nice hike, leave your car at the hotel and walk thru their property about a mile to Buttermilk Falls State Park, which lets you dodge the $7 parking fee, and enjoy the waterfalls there. But without a deal a weekend night will run you two and a half Benjamins, ouch. read more

I am familiar with Ithaca and have stayed in the Commons area in the past. Given the current pandemic, I thought it would be better for us to stay away from the crowd. La Tourelle was a much quieter option, but I felt for the price I paid, more money than the surrounding hotels, more could have been provided. Upon check in, I asked about the happy hour which was promoted on social media. I was told there was no happy hour, but could purchase a glass of wine if I liked. Coffee was available at all times. Cookies, what cookies? The staff consisted of one person, again probably due to pandemic. Front desk person was friendly but really should attend to one person at a time instead of jumping to the next person and then flipping back to me. The room was clean but old. The sink and surrounding counter were about 1-2 feet lower than it should have been. The grounds were nice, but in need of some sprucing up. I like family owned businesses and want to help these kind of places flourish, but will not be returning when I visit the area again. read more

Stayed in La Tourelle back in July with my husband and family. The place was beautiful, quiet, but with a lot of mosquitos outside, so bring plenty of mosquito repellent. The steakhouse restaurant is temporarily closed but you can still have breakfast in the hotel. Our waitress was great and their breakfast was delicious. You need to wear a mask while you are inside the premises, and because of COVID-19, there is no room service until you checkout. Just back from a wonderful family reunion long weekend at La Tourelle . Our group of twenty rented a variety of room types and each one was beyond comfortable. The Yellow Barn served us well as our central gathering place and was large enough to accommodate all of us for cocktails before dinner. Dinner was outside the barn on the lovely lawn, beside the pond. The ducks were a fun and often funny waddling addition. Scott, the owner went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed for our picnic dinners...coolers with ice, plenty of chairs and tables, and lots of wood for the fire pit. The Versailles room was a real stunner, but the regular king room was beautiful, and quite spacious, as well. We loved the valley view, over the ponds, lawns, and gazebo. Afternoon wine, nighttime cookies, all day coffee and tea were all appreciated. We ate breakfast on the Bistro patio. The food was great; prices reasonable; and service gracious. If you have a reason to be in Ithaca, (and you should...it's lovely) you wont go wrong at La Tourelle. read more

This is a great pet friendly hotel. I was on the lowest ground floor with a walk out patio. The bathroom needs updating, and it was noisy from the AC and a pipe in the ceiling, but it was comfortable, just bring earplugs. The son-in-law, who works in the lobby bar was very friendly. We were able to enjoy the happy hour from $5-6 and was a friendly atmosphere. The grounds are nice and was like a Disney film.
