Really loved the views and beautiful property here, if you couldn't tell from my 100 pics here. We didn't get a chance to make it to the buttermilk falls trail (well, more like we're lazy/ not hikers lol but we can pretend it was a timing thing!) but the ponds and gazebo and even their garden were nice to stroll through. Fall was the perfect time to visit with the foliage, especially from our balcony. Loved that they had an amazing restaurant on premises and a spa. I loved every breakfast daily at their Bistro restaurant; they had the option for indoor or outdoor dining back in October for covid safety which we appreciated. All the waitresses were very sweet to us, as were any of the hotel staff at the guest services desk. The room decor was a bit quaint but still liked the look of the hardwood floors. The gas fireplace is always a win and I switched off between there and the balcony often while reading. Wish they had more cozy chairs, I think I was using the plastic ones from the balcony to lounge by the fire. Great location for this hotel too- we were very close to plenty of waterfalls and the colleges and restaurants.

Water stained and dirty coffee maker

My husband and I came to Ithaca on the tail end of our honeymoon to visit the wine trail, enjoy some relaxation and from what we gathered online, we assumed a nice stay at a spa hotel. For starters the hotel is very dated-as you can see in the photos below it does not appear to have been updated since the 80s. For upwards of $300 for one night I was very disappointed in the lackluster decor, as well as the state of the bathroom which looked as though it had come directly from an economy hotel. Aside from the outward appearance of the room, the run down halls (the shining comes to mind when walking down the hall), and the musty smell that came from the room when we opened the door, what really got me was the lack of cleanliness. Oh sure at first glance the rooms appear clean, but upon closer inspection I noticed a layer of dust on everything. The curtains were musty and the bathroom windowsills looked like they had never been wiped down. The corners of the bathroom had spiderwebs in them, and there were also webs in the corners of the shower ceiling. The sink had a dead insect in it and a ring of rust? around it. The soap dish in the shower was dirty, and the skylight in the bathroom was covered in insects. Flies were a constant throughout the common areas of the hotel and one had taken up residence in our room as well. In fact, the wine we got from the hotel happy hour couldn't be finished because I set the glass down in my room and when I came back a few minutes later two flies had drowned themselves in it. The coffee maker was gross and clearly has not been used in a long time or hadn't been cleaned ever. Below you'll see water stains and a thick layer of dust on the inside of the machine where the coffee pod goes. For the price I was surprised that the room had cartons of water but they came with a cost. We chose to fill our own refillable bottles in the lobby instead. Additionally the housekeeping staff was very loud in the morning before checkout and there were several working in the hall and rooms around our. We witnessed them swearing and shouting to one another as we returned from the spa. Something else I find very upsetting is the piles of clean linens and towels that were left outside rooms that they were waiting to make up once guests checked out. You'll see a photo below of the pile that was outside our door for when we left. I was disgusted at the thought of towels and lines sitting on the dirty floor with multiple people walking by while waiting to change over the rooms. Additionally there were bags of dirty laundry left all over the halls. That is something a guest should never see. The bed and pillows were fine and decently comfortable but the linens were old and grayed. Not plush or thick. The robes were scratchy and made of towel like material that didn't make for a spa like experience. The front desk staff were very polite and kind with no issues there, and the happy hour and snacks and drinks available in the Lobby was a nice touch however I worry about how fresh everything is when seeing the layers of dust and cobwebs in the room. We took advantage of the spa steam room and sauna as well as the tranquility room which was a nice bonus for those that stay however it still does not justify the cost of the hotel room. Advertising as a spa resort hotel is a stretch. We could've stayed in town closer to everything and spent the same or less and had much more updated amenities and cleanliness. Our reservation came with two breakfasts at the bistro attached to the hotel which was a decent meal consisting of fruit, juice and coffee or tea, a pastry and entree. Gratuity was also included. The meal was good and the restaurant was pretty clean if not outdated. The bathrooms at the restaurant smelled terrible and were extremely outdated and frankly gross. Had I used the bathroom before our meal I would've walked out of the restaurant. It looked and smelled like something you'd see in a dive bar or cabin in the woods. Clearly they haven't maintained the bistro or updated it either. I'm extremely disappointed that the reviews of this hotel are mostly positive - I'm not sure how other people are not bothered by what we experienced. I've done a lot of traveling and this hotel was by far one of the most disappointing and overpriced places I've stayed. We will not be returning nor will we be recommending to friends. I feel very much that we were charged way too much for the experience we had and am disappointed that this was how our honeymoon ended. I just hope my review will steer others away from this place if they're looking for a romantic or clean getaway.

    Oatmeal crusted French toast

The food is consistently good. I get the full breakfast and it comes with coffee or tea, juice, a pastry, a fruit cup, and an entry (some of which come with an extra side). It's about $21 for the full breakfast which is reasonable for all the food you get. The service is friendly and it's a nice atmosphere. The property is pretty with a pond and sometimes ducks walking around. Highly recommend!

    Eggs Benedict Beyond Delicious

This was not my first stay at La Tourelle, and it won't be my last. One of the ladies in my golf group was having a milestone birthday and we wanted to do something special to commemorate it. I thought of a "Spa Weekend" and immediately La Tourelle came to mind! Their Relax and Rejuvenate package was the perfect gift- ( for ALL of us) We arrived on a rainy day with a little time to stretch and unwind in our robes and chose the "Fireside Lounge" over the "Waterfall Lounge" prior to our treatments. The soft music, fireplace, lounges and tea put us in the perfect zone for our rejuvenation massages and facial - we were thoroughly transformed after that. We stayed in the Mickey Suite- a charming farmhouse vibe with plenty of room for the four of us. Breakfast at the Bistro was amazing each morning, and we were treated like family by everyone at LaTourelle.

    Door to Micky suite

What a lovely place to stay and I'm sad we did not discover it until my daughters senior year at Cornell We had the Mickey suite which was perfect for our family of 5. Cute little kitchen and nice size dining room table where we played games all night. Also included in our stay was access to the steam room, sauna and tranquility room which we all loved to do after a day of hiking Definitely will go back as she decided to stay in Grad School at Cornell

So many good things about this place, but a few negatives that slightly marred the experience…read more First, the areas for improvement: 1.) none of the USB ports at the bedside tables worked. None of the four. It's a mild inconvenience, to be sure, but having to plug everything up on the opposite side of the room was a pain. 2.) my shower wasn't clean. It's a lovely big shower with a little ledge inside for sitting/shaving, but mine had crusted soap (I guess?) from a previous and stuck to the ledge, there was hair in the shower, and shampoo (I guess) on the walls. Neither the hair, nor the old shampoo were mine. 3.) I could have sworn I selected the option for breakfast being included. I paid $250 for the room. Turns out I was mistaken and had to pay for my breakfast. In the grand scheme of things not the worst thing in the world, but when you're paying $250 a night breakfast shouldn't be an additional charge. This is a Canopy property, so of course the decor is stunning. There's a lovely fireplace in the lobby, and from the light fixtures to the artfully displayed knick-knacks all over the property, this place reads luxury. A few good things: 1.) the employees. There's an airport shuttle from Ithaca, and when the manager, Charis, came to get me he was incredibly kind. He took my bag to the hotel and dropped me at a local restaurant so I could enjoy happy hour oysters, AND he came back an hour later to pick me up. SO kind. Sam in the restaurant made breakfast a delight. She moved quickly and pays attention to guest needs. Great response time and knowledgeable about the menu. 2.) there's a free shuttle for local stops near the hotel. This is honestly the reason I chose this location as opposed to any other, and this free shuttle availability saved me at least $100 on Ubers during my day/night in town. They really don't mind running you here and there, and it's a wonderful little treat. 3.) breakfast is great. I was torn between the Eggs Benedict or the Lox, and at Sam's recommendation I opted for the Eggs Benedict. GREAT choice. The hollandaise is delicious, the bacon is crispy, and the English muffin is perfectly toasted. Poached eggs are an art form as far as I'm concerned, and these are beautifully done. The breakfast menu here in general looks great, and if this dish is any indication, you likely can't go wrong. 4.) they're actively working to reduce plastics at this location. I love that there are glass bottles in the room that you can fill with ice and filtered water on every floor. Talk about intentional. Kudos on this front. 5.) getting a late check out was easy. 6.) the location is ideal for exploring the Commons, a pedestrian block of little places that's crawling with college kids. It's easy to walk to a local bar and have a quick drink, but be careful where you go...I went to the Chantillery (or some such nonsense), and they absolutely scammed me on the one drink I ordered. The good things about this place far out number the negative, but for $250 a night, this should be a 5-star experience. Even though the hotel fell short in a few ways, the people here would encourage me to come back. I'd just ask housekeeping to go over the room once more before I checked in.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at the Canopy by Hilton that I feel others should be aware…read moreof. I briefly pulled into the parking lot to get my belongings, and instead of being treated with basic courtesy, I was confronted by a staff member who spoke to me in a threatening and aggressive manner. It was completely unprofessional and honestly shocking for a hotel that presents itself as upscale. On top of that, the parking situation is absolutely terrible. The layout is confusing, spaces are limited, and it feels very poorly managed. Even if you are a guest, it doesn't seem like there's any effort to make parking convenient or stress-free. Between the hostile interaction and the frustrating parking setup, I would not recommend staying here. There are plenty of other hotels that treat people with respect and don't make something as simple as parking a headache.
