Canopy hotel for me in Ithaca
    Carol T.

Canopy by Hilton Ithaca has a wonderful restaurant on the ground floor. When they are fully open they also have tea and desserts. They are only open to people staying at the hotel during COVID-19. I hope they will open again. They have a bar and a library of great books to look at during your stay. Very modern and chic. Hotel is one of the newer places in Ithaca,N.Y. Food is moderately priced.

This hotel was awesome. Really great location and I have nothing negative to say about the staff, room, or hotel at all. Came with a dog who was pampered to the nines. She had a bed in the room with a toy and treats. It was so nice to come "home" there at night knowing we were well taken care of.

Stayed in this hotel for a few days in October, so, during the pandemic. This hotel is in a great location right in downtown Ithica. Tons of food options and cute shops around. It's a very walkable location. The hotel doesn't offer onsite parking but there is a lot about a block and a half away. Valet parking is normally offered there but not right now. Parking wasn't too bad, about 10 bucks a night. No in and out. This hotel is Hilton's take on a boutique hotel. The lobby feels more artsy than a typical Hilton. Ample seating, fireplaces, tables and artwork can be found in the lobby. The hotel also offers complimentary bike rentals for guests. Another nice addition to this hotel is a second floor patio/deck with seating for guests. It's a nice spot to sit outside and enjoy a takeout meal. The room I had was pretty decent. Clean, modern furniture, and high quality toiletries. The bed was comfy and TV was up to my boyfriend's standards! The only thing I didn't love was the bathroom door, which was a sliding farm door. It didn't actually close completely. I was with my boyfriend so it didn't really matter but just something to consider. I suspect it's the case with all of the rooms and not just the one I had, due to the style of the door. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I would stay here again!

Half inch gap between shower door and the ground

All together I'd say that my stay at Canopy felt like death by a thousand cuts. Nothing major major wrong, but lots of small and tedious issues that made me uncomfortable or otherwise left feeling like things weren't well thought out. For the cost of the one night stay ($275 for my single bed when it was all said and done) I can't possibly recommend it. The front desk staff was nice and helpful. I didn't have a reservation, and they hooked me up with a room and I think even gave me an upgrade of some kind. They communicated how the room key worked the elevator and that while a real-meal-breakfast wasn't complimentary, there was a complementary light cold breakfast that gets delivered to your door. Positive highlights of the room - the bed was comfortable and clean, AC worked well and was responsive to button presses, and the design of the room looked pretty cool. The shower was disappointing. There's a half inch gap between the shower door and the floor such that it spills water everywhere. The bathroom light turns off automatically after about 10-15 minutes of showering. The soaps are refillable dispensers bolted to the wall, which would be great except the body wash dispenser was completely empty. Topping it off was the colonies of black mold forming in the grout. Complimentary light breakfast is, per what it says on the bag; fruit, a yogurt and some juice, requested by filling out how many people need food and what time on a brown paper bag in the room and hanging it outside your door. There was no pen in my room to fill it out, so I hung the bag unmarked on my door. The bag got picked up and delivered, and I received 2x5.5oz cans of apple juice, an orange, and a banana. WiFi was a hassle to set up, and after about 5 minutes of filling out forms and getting errors for "too many redirects", I went downstairs for dinner and halfway into the meal my phone spontaneously connected to the internet. As for the restaurant, the service at dinner was unimpressive. I sat myself down to become the second seated table in the place. After ~7-8 minutes I lost faith that it was actually seat yourself dining so I got up to ask the server for a menu myself (I'm honestly still not sure whether it's seat yourself dining, I didn't see a host or sign and nobody met my eyes). The burger was well seasoned and you could taste the truffle aioli, though it was dry and homogeneously grey (no pink at all) despite ordering medium rare. The fries were delicious and crispy, and had an old fashioned that was really good. All together, I was able to get a room at the last minute when I needed one, but for a pretty decent chunk of change I would expect the attention to detail to be there, and I wouldn't come back.

So... the hotel itself is great and the beds are comfy... but the parking is a block away. Was not expecting to haul my bags that far

PROS * Convenient location to the Ithaca Commons, an outdoor area with stores and (a few) restaurants, Lake Cayuga, and Lake Seneca * Close to a Wegmans, Chipotle, Panera, etc. Not walking distance but a few minutes away * Accommodating staff was very nice * Restaurant (more on that in cons) * On-site parking * Quiet in the north tower where we stayed--could not hear people in other rooms * Decent gym * Comfortable beds CONS * Hotel is a bit worn, in need of carpet cleaning, replacement, and painting * Hotel not very clean in general, and I saw no cleaning staff vacuuming anywhere on the premises * Entrance area from the side parking lot offensively hot and stuffy * Non-functioning pool * You must call every morning for maid service (making beds, fresh towels, etc). The first day they did not come, we called again, and they came after 5pm * First morning at the restaurant (Sunday), had a normal breakfast, which was fine. Second day was a buffet breakfast, which was absolutely sub-par. Service sub-par as well. We did not eat there after that and had no other meals there * Ithaca has defunded their police. This is not a political statement. They have about 4 police officers for the entire town. We did not see one police officer or police car in 3 full days there, and there are some shady areas of town you will see homeless people, some right by the hotel). I don't know what they're thinking. This is NOT a hotel issue, but something to be aware of Summary: You might be better off with a lower-priced national hotel chain and some serve breakfast for free. Paying extra money to stay here not worth it in my experience. Regardless, please do leave a tip for the cleaning staff, who deserve and need it.

This room is expensive and not worth the price. Their internet is annoying, always having to input the password, but then having issues connecting to the login page. The pic below is just one of at least 12 places where you can sit in total silence and write. There were gazebos, benches, nooks inside, a tent covered breakfast area outside and that's before you get to the fireside camps where other people were "glamping" but hotel people can go sit by one of 12 fire pits! I also went out there during the day and took a nap on a leather couch in an outside tent covered living room in TOTAL SILENCE. Well not total silence. There were birds, frogs, and crickets. There were people if you wanted people (and I met two dogs!) but what struck me was the absolutely silence and solitude I could find. I desperately needed it, and I've NEVER found it like this before. If you go and don't want a balcony, room 104 is the quietest. There's a double door (room and hallway) so any children screaming in delight or adults laughing in the common area is blocked twice. Oh! And there's a trail head to buttermilk falls on property and it's right across from a Buddhist temple which just adds to the ambience. Plus the most delicious food and cider and lake views are found in Ithaca. If you need this, GO.
