We stayed at The Hotel Ithaca a week ago. I've stayed at many hotels in this price range (around $300 on the weekend) for business that were nicer and I'd rate this hotel average. PROS * Convenient location to the Ithaca Commons, an outdoor area with stores and (a few) restaurants, Lake Cayuga, and Lake Seneca * Close to a Wegmans, Chipotle, Panera, etc. Not walking distance but a few minutes away * Accommodating staff was very nice * Restaurant (more on that in cons) * On-site parking * Quiet in the north tower where we stayed--could not hear people in other rooms * Decent gym * Comfortable beds CONS * Hotel is a bit worn, in need of carpet cleaning, replacement, and painting * Hotel not very clean in general, and I saw no cleaning staff vacuuming anywhere on the premises * Entrance area from the side parking lot offensively hot and stuffy * Non-functioning pool * You must call every morning for maid service (making beds, fresh towels, etc). The first day they did not come, we called again, and they came after 5pm * First morning at the restaurant (Sunday), had a normal breakfast, which was fine. Second day was a buffet breakfast, which was absolutely sub-par. Service sub-par as well. We did not eat there after that and had no other meals there * Ithaca has defunded their police. This is not a political statement. They have about 4 police officers for the entire town. We did not see one police officer or police car in 3 full days there, and there are some shady areas of town you will see homeless people, some right by the hotel). I don't know what they're thinking. This is NOT a hotel issue, but something to be aware of Summary: You might be better off with a lower-priced national hotel chain and some serve breakfast for free. Paying extra money to stay here not worth it in my experience. Regardless, please do leave a tip for the cleaning staff, who deserve and need it. read more

I stayed in their north tower, which is their remodeled tower. The room is good enough, some rust spots in the shower. I would recommend staying at a Marriott or Hilton. This room is expensive and not worth the price. Their internet is annoying, always having to input the password, but then having issues connecting to the login page. But to make matters worse, my key worked every other time. I had to constantly go to the front desk for assistance. Very inconvenient. I will not be staying here again. read more

A very convenient location to the commons. The bar/restaurant is the Social Pub & Grille. The bartender Carmen was awesome. She was able to keep up with everyone's orders and maintain pleasant disposition even during the rush of severing drinking, delivering food and bussing tables. Give this woman a raise. The night we were here they had a lively crowd of union leaders finishing a summer workshop at Cornell University. On the down side unfortunately the pool was closed for repairs and one of the was elevators broken. AC unit in the room was noisy and the fridge was even louder. Front desk staff was friendly and efficient. Room rate was reasonable. Many sports teams and parents stay here whether you are visiting Cornell University, Ithaca College and even SUNY Cortland. It is still my go to hotel when visiting Ithaca. read more

We booked this hotel to come to Ithaca for our sons wedding in mid October 2025. Unfortunately, we booked the incorrect days- we were off by 1-day. We found this out on the day of our arrival from the west coast. Long story short, they could not accommodate us and we were forced to rebook at another hotel. Upon returning home, we found they charges us for 2 nights and refused to refund a cost at almost $400. We called and were promised a Mgr would call back. They never did. We were pleasantly surprised by our stay given the poor reviews. First off we were able to check in early and got our room - even on the Friday of a busy holiday weekend. No hassles. We were in town for a wedding. We got a room on the first floor of the newer (shorter building). The room had very high ceilings and was a decent size though really no where to sit except on the beds. There was some noise from the room above but it seemed most noticeable when people were checking into the room - a lot of thumping about - those "wood" floors are noisy. The water pressure was very good and we were glad we were in the building we were in because those in the taller building on higher floors had two days without hot water - I will let those people give the bad reviews! The staff at the front desk did not seem like the most skilled people and they seemed understaffed. I think there is a nearby hospitality school that might be helpful in training staff! The buffet breakfast as part of the wedding weekend events was good. The location to the Commons was very convenient. read more

I'll start with positive points: great location within a block to Ithaca Commons, lots of parking and amazing, friendly staff. Now for the issues: I understand that hotel room prices are driven by the law of supply and demand, and also that most hotels are severely understaffed as apparently no one wants to work anymore... cough... cough. But first, this is especially puzzling to me, and I can tell you that as a retired Navy veteran, I have been in hotels all over the world, hotels of all kinds, levels, and prices... but until this trip, I had never stayed in a $500+ a day hotel in my life, which is what we are paid for these rooms.  Let me repeat: I understand that hotel prices are driven by the law of supply and demand, but I am sure that anyone would agree that one expects a certain level of... quality for a $500 a day hotel room; these rooms did not meet any of those expectations. In summary - this $500+ a  day room: Was dirty and had not been vacuumed properly and windows not cleaned (and they are grossly dirty) - and there was trash under one of the beds... see photos. Did not have any toilet paper in the bathroom (we got one from the desk) The small fridge was not working properly and a technician had to come in to try to fix it. There was no shower mat of any kind and the bathroom floor retains water from the floor-level shower There were no bath robes as announced - the front desk provided them after we discovered that they were missing I reported these issues to the hotel manager, who was very nice and quick in his response and offered us a complimentary first night, which I was grateful for. The new room was better, bit still not what one would expect for the price... for instance, the glass on the framed photos in the room had not been cleaned, and it was clear thar that some previous guest has spilled some sticky liquid on one of them. I'll finish by giving kudos again to the friendly, smiling front desk staff, who put up with all my complaints with a smile. read more

Because of a wedding, our plans with 2 other couples had already been completed for a stay at this hotel. It was after the reservations had been made that I checked Yelp and was scared that we had made a terrible mistake by booking here. From previous recent Yelp reviews, we were afraid of possibly being accosted by homeless people; warned not to walk in the area; dirty and un-vacuumed rooms, grossly dirty windows; no shower matts; not being assigned a room till 8:30 pm; people sleeping between the cars in the parking lot. Well maybe because of those reviews (?) the hotel seems to have completely remedied these problems. All three of our rooms were fine. The desk told us at check-in to call if housekeeping was needed during our stay otherwise the rooms would not be made up. All the Staff we met were friendly and accommodating. Although we did not wander around the area after dark, we felt safe walking to and from the Commons for both breakfast & lunch. It will be interesting to check future reviews to see if we just lucked out by not having any problems. read more

We were in town to celebrate Easter with my daughter and her husband and kids. We went to Hotel Ithaca for their Easter brunch. It was lovely and we truly had a great time. The variety of food was extensive - salmon, roast, baked ham. There were eight or nine different side dishes, a charcueterie board, an omlet station, several breakfast options including bacon and sausage, and a great variety of desserts - petit fours, chocolate cheese cake, regular cheese cake and a few more. The service was very good. All in all it was a wonderful experience for all of us. read more

Was in town for work and stayed at the hotel. The hotel is not in a safe area, I didn't feel comfortable going outside anytime after 6pm... and I'm from California. The hotel is very old and rundown, they really need to do some renovations. It's not clean from the lobby to the rooms, it's just not a good place to stay. The bathrooms are not clean or taken care of, I really wish they would take a little more time to clean the rooms. The AC is broken and when it clicks on it sounds like a gun shot. All in all I would recommend anyone look for a different place to stay. This is just not the best option. read more

The restaurant advertises a menu with entrees but the restaurant doesn't serve those entrees. They do not have the necessary staff to make those entrees. So it is false advertising. It is so disappointing to look at the menu online, decide what you want and go there and not get it. The food they have is good but not what you anticipated. read more

Mid hotel. Insufficient parking, nonexistent security, and the housekeeping service leaves much to be desired. The second star is for the front desk staff, who were incredibly attentive and polite, and who promptly provided towels, toiletries, and trash removal where the housekeepers failed to do so. There was no pubic hair in the shower and no bloody, rotting meat in the mini fridge, as mentioned in other reviews; however, there was an old, dried contact lens on the bathroom floor beneath the vanity which appeared to have been there for quite some time. Sad to say, I will not be returning to see whether the contact lens is eventually removed, or if it is destined to become one with the hotel's decor. read more

They ripped me off during Covid time, and are refusing to refund my money - they charged over $2,000 for a 2 night stay. They resold my room to other people. Be aware of their scam! Very run down and over priced. The service is horrible, asked to have my room cleaned daily and they never cleaned it over three days. Restaurant food is not worth ordering. The Hotel Ithaca is in a great location, and the rooms are nice-- clearly recently renovated. The beds are comfortable, the toiletries smell great, and there's a fitness center and indoor pool which are nice and unusual amenities in a hotel like this one. One drawback is the soundproofing; I could hear conversations in the next-door rooms quite clearly, as well as footsteps down the halls. The reason why I can only give it three stars is because nearly every interaction I had with the front desk staff was dissatisfying. The worst was when I came back to my room at midnight one night and my key card wasn't working. The front desk staff member then told me he could not find my reservation under either my room number or my last name. It was tough to sort out, and when we ultimately did, it seemed as if he thought I had given him the wrong number (I didn't). And overall, it wasn't great to get locked out of my room... let alone get the sense that it was somehow my fault or that I wasn't a guest! Check-in also took an unusually long time, and I was assigned a room immediately near the elevator even though the hotel was nowhere near full. Check-out was a breeze, though! read more

BEDBUGS!! BEWARE! the WORST stay in hotel I ever had in my entire life. I arrived at the hotel around 11 pm, checked in, went to sleep and I was super tired. I kept waking up and when I check my phone it has been only 15 minutes. I was too tired so I went back to sleep again only to wake up again. Then I realized I was waking up because I was being uncomfortable and being bit. I looked at myself and screamed! My poor stomach! and Eww! I was bit by a bedbug. I was able to pull myself together, looked for the sucker! And guess what? I caught that damn thing! Grabbed the bed bug, was easy to spot on the white sheets, killed it, blood coming out. For sure the one that bit me. Called the front desk. Was super RUDE to me. Immediately said they did not have any bed bugs and I must have brought it with me. Who does that? It was 3 am, and manager that was supposed to come right away never came even after 9 am! They tried to BLAME ME. I obviously brought my "sample, aka successfully caught bed bug" to Cornell and easily had it identified as bed bug. Also, the entire Cornell campus was covered with posters reminding to be beware of bedbugs. This whole town is infested. The hotel never even said sorry. So I called my lawyer, that is when they said sorry only because my lawyer successfully followed the law and had the extinguisher to visit and find multiple rooms with bedbugs and prove that it was their fault. This place is a DUMP. No hygiene whatsoever. I still went to my conference feeling awful and never heard from the hotel management. By 9 am after having heard nothing, I still had to make my way to the conference. By the time I returned by 6 pm, still no solution. Finally, before sleep, manager met me and their solution was to move me to just 1 door down! I did not sleep for 3 days and given that it was such busy time, there was no option to switch hotels. I ended up throwing away my luggage, got a new one, dry cleaned all my clothes all on my own dime before flying back to home. It was super uncomfortable and very costly both in terms of time, money and emotional pain. They did NOTHING to make my stay any better. Just AVOID AT ALL COST! read more

Please do not stay here. I'll start by saying I contacted the manager (Mr Conrad) the day we checked out and gave him time to rectify the situation before posting a negative review, but 6 days have passed and NO response. First, we checked into our room and quickly found that a previous guest left what appeared to be bleeding, rotting meat in the fridge. They did give us another room immediately. The new room was filthy. There were yellow stains on the sheets, pubic hairs covering the floor of the shower, ripped/shredded towels hanging up for use, dusty night side table and lamps, and just an overall funky smell in the room. We were unable to use the shower bc the water wouldn't drain leaving those pubic hairs floating around. The only good thing about this place was the location. I'm happy I brought my Lysol with me. read more

The staff here is amazing!!! Super friendly and fast service from the second you walk in! I loved it! They do whatever they can to accommodate guests and make them feel welcome. My room was very clean when I arrived, and room service did an excellent job tidying up the place everyday. I really did not want to leave! It's also very close to Cornell's campus, so stay here if you're visiting the school for any reason. It's also located near great restaurants, bars and a movie theater. Everything is conveniently located, so no need to take lyft! read more

Stayed here Labor Day weekend. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the new tower side which was extremely clean and elegant. Our rooms were spotless and roomy. The hotel has a restaurant inside that has good food as well. Plenty of parking for hotel residents!! The hotel is conveniently 5 minutes away from downtown that you're able to walk to. Downtown has different shops (Pizza shops, coffee shops, chase bank, game store, Indian food, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican, Italian). Overall, this was a great place to stay. read more

The 5 stars are for the staff of the Hotel Ithaca which gives white-glove service worthy of a hotel triple the price, not to mention Comfortable, Super Clean, moderately priced, newly renovated rooms which include -fridges -very fluffy pillow, soft sheets, -excellent shower pressure, plentiful hot water, quiet heating system, Also -free shuttle service to and from nearby campuses and airport, and -brand new coffee/hot water urn in the lobby. I have stayed at this hotel more than a dozen times over the past 5 years, and I will admit that in 2014 it less than awesome. Now ALL rooms are renovated AND and new tower has been built. If you haven't stayed here in a while, or are reading old posts, be aware that this hotel is constantly making improvements. BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! They do not care at all about the health and safety of their guests!!!!! My friend and I made a reservation at Hotel Ithaca for April 2020. We booked the reservation in Feb 2020, well before the pandemic began and the stay at home orders went into place around the country. Once we learned travel would be illegal during the dates of our reservation, we of course were forced to cancel our trip. Hotel Ithaca informed us they were refusing to refund the cost of the room. They told us we instead would receive a credit on our account that we had to use within 6 months. Currently the pandemic shows no signs of ending any time soon. Yesterday (August 7) the country reported over 55,000 new cases and over 1,200 deaths. Many states around the country are now considered hotspots, and many employers and cities have strongly discouraged travel at this time. With all this in mind, Hotel Ithaca is still informing us that we only have 2 months left to use our credit before it expires and will not be extending the deadline. They told us today that "the hotel is still open" and therefore we have no reason we can't travel. I find it extremely irresponsible that they are trying to encourage/force people from out-of-state to either travel during a pandemic or lose hundreds of dollars. This is highly concerning that the hotel has such little regard for the health and safety of its guests and staff (and the Ithaca community in general). read more

I actually liked this hotel quite a bit for the new tower. Seems like there were some concerns with the low-rise section and first tower (older rooms). Abby was a great hostess, checking me in with a minimum of fuss. Placed in the second (newer) tower, we had access to ice, microwave, hair dryer, two big queen beds, a shuttle, the pool, business center, gym, and a restaurant. Parking behind the hotel available for some guests, and other parking across the street in the lot (free after 8p or all weekend). Also a shuttle available for guests to the Cornell Campus. Close to a big area for bars, restaurants, and shops on the Ithaca Commons space a block up. Convenient, clean, and simple, all I ask for out of a hotel, and one of the cheaper options (compared to the one on-campus). Only downside to the room (hence the facilities & condition) was the fan in the bathroom was pretty loud and never turned off at night. Hotel itself is fairly nice (if you stay inside the building), but they need security! I travel a lot, and I've never felt so unsafe anywhere in the world as I did in downtown Ithaca. There was an incident in the hotel lobby in which police were called right as I was checking in, my door didn't close properly, and I was followed once near the commons and once in the hotel parking lot during my two night stay. Do not walk alone in this area! The view from my room of the homeless camp behind the neighboring gas station was just a fun extra. read more

stayed at the hotel on July 20, I don't usually write reviews, but the reviews for this place were so bad before I went there that I decided I needed to chip in on how my visit went. We stayed in the north tower in a handicap, assessable room and the room was beautiful. The beds were very comfortable. The room was very clean. The walk-in shower was very nice. The water pressure was good and hot water came out very quickly. It had both the refrigerator and the microwave which was nice because it has a lot of good food and you end up with leftovers sometimes. all parts of the hotel that I was in were very clean and the place is huge. It must take an off a lot of people to keep it clean. The people at the desk were also very nice and told us that if we couldn't park in the small lot we could park across the street and they would validate it for the parking garage and it was a very easy process, and the parking garage is very close read more

Hotel was marginal. In no way on par with other Hart properties. We were in town to enjoy the lake and were looking forward to staying on The Commons to walk to shops and restaurants. This is my second time staying in this hotel. The first time I had a more pleasant experience, but this time I had a few concerns. The staff was welcoming as usual, but I noticed some had masks on, some didn't. I understand that this is a rule that only New York City enforces, so it's something I have to get used to. When I walked in my room, pets of it didn't seem clean. The coffee machine still had a Keurig pod with a hole in it... The shower doors also didn't seem to have been cleaned properly. Some of the pillows even smelled weird. I just hope this room has been properly sanitized and I don't get sick. read more

We came from out of town to see the falls. We originally had a reservation elsewhere and the woman ended up being a nut job so we had to find somewhere to stay one day before we arrived. They gladly got us a room with a balcony and when we got there super early they accommodated us for early check in. The room was nice and clean. Only thing I didn't like was the showerhead was in the middle of the shower so water got all over the floor but it wasn't a big deal since it was all tile. The central location of this hotel was awesome. We walked to the commons in two minutes and we drove to the mix restaurant in two minutes as well. Would stay there again in a heartbeat read more

I loved this place from the very first minute I pulled up! I checked in around 9pm and the front desk staff member was fantastic, we joked a bunch, he was informative and gave us locations of where we should go eat. Every employee I interacted with were so nice and helpful. I stayed in the smaller of the two towers and the whole design of the lobby and hallways were beautifully done. Loved the decor. The room was great. It had a fridge and microwave, the room was very nicely set up. The bathroom was fantastic, more specifically, the shower was amazing. Great water pressure and heated up very nicely. They also included great amenities including cotton swabs, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, soap, an exfoliating bar and makeup remover. The beds were extremely comfortable, I slept great. The beds come with a lot of heavy blankets which will be good in the winter. The place also comes with coffee keurigs and they include the pods, and there's more coffee downstairs! The main reason I chose this place was the indoor pool. The pool is open from 7am to 10pm which is a good amount of time. It was extremely clean and had plenty of towels. The water was warm, but not too warm. Personally I would rather it be a little warmer but it's still at a decent temp that if you are constantly moving you stay warm. The location of this hotel is probably it's best feature. It's located right next to the Commons and has parking included. Next time I come to Ithaca I will stay here again. read more

Our room was not ready at the time of check in and the manager, Mary, was incredibly rude and unapologetic. The room we were given was very dirty, the floor and desk had not been cleaned. They did move us to a new room which was still not super clean but better. The room was nice and location was great. Very disappointing to pay over $300 to be treated so terribly. read more

I stayed in July 2022 for a work conference. I checked in at 4:30pm and didn't get a room until 8:30pm!!!!! I had to bring my luggage to the cocktail hour and reception dinner without being able to freshen up or change beforehand. The rooms were not clean and no housekeeping came to my room during my entire stay. The pool was closed. They were always out of coffee in the reception areas. The breakfast sucked. The a/c in the conference rooms apparently didn't work (on 98 degree days). There were a ton of homeless people constantly coming up to me and getting in my face. There were people sleeping in the parking lot between cars. There was a shooting in the parking lot in front of the lobby. There were 2 robberies at the 7-11 right next to the hotel the same night as the shooting. There were people smoking crack right on the sidewalks. I would NOT recommend and will NEVER stay there again! read more

Spacious rooms with comfortable beds and linens. It was different to have hard floors in the room, rather than carpet, but I'm sure it's more hygienic. The room was outfitted with 2 queen beds, a desk and chair, Keurig, fridge and microwave. It also provided a wine bottle opener, but only had plastic cups. A couple wine glasses and water glasses would be nice, and cut down on the trash. We ate breakfast at the diner downstairs the first morning, and it was pretty good and reasonably priced. I would recommend that they update their room service menu to include a wine list, although, it was cheaper to go to the wine shop on the corner and purchase from there. Overall, a pleasant hotel that I would revisit. read more

Just arrived and staying in the new tower (north tower). Room is spacious with 2 queen beds. Keurig, refrigerator, microwave, glass enclosed shower and "green" toiletries that smell great. Check in was quick and easy. We arrived very late. They were waiting for us. I would definitely recommend this place and Will come back for a visit! read more
