We are Marriott members and go to many of their hotels and timeshares. We decided to split the time for the drive to Las Vegas by staying in Tehachapi overnight on the way there. We had scoped out the Fairfield Inn last time we drove through in May, and decided it was worth a try. We made a reservation on the drive there, as the last time I called, they didn't properly put the reservation through. We were able to get a room with two queen sized beds for comfort, and it was the handicapped room, which is often available when nothing else is. We had been warned about the $50. parking fee, which is pretty bogus, since there is ample parking there. We checked in easily at the front desk, the staff were very friendly. I was having a mobility issue, so I had to sit whenever possible and the front lobby had comfortable chairs. The front lobby was clean and spacious, but the decor was subpar. It couldn't make up its mind between desert and modernism. The color scheme was kind of 80's orange wood, with yellowy chairs and coral accents. The other oddity was that the faux fire was never lit the entire time we were there. It would have added a note of warmth to the room. A major glitch was that the key to our room would not work. This was a handicapped room, located at the very end of a loooong hallway. I sat on the floor while the hotel maid let us in with her master key. We unloaded in a large clean room, and he returned downstairs for a new key, which also did not work. We decided to stay in the room until dinner, and try another key on the way back in. I had searched YELP for restaurants, but most of the ones I would be interested in were closed on Sundays, so we asked at the front desk. The very helpful staff suggested Don Perico's Restaurant, so off we went. There is a small refrigerator in the room, so we were able to save out dinner meal leftovers. When we returned, the key finally worked, and we settled down. We were on the second floor, and could hear a lot of noise on the third floor, with kids running around. The other caveat is that the TV selection is pretty limited, but I got their WiFi to work, and watched streaming shows. Again, the bathroom and room decor are very grey and institutional looking, more like a conference hotel than a vacation spot. I got up super early and went to the breakfast area, and it was the highlight of the stay. There were huge carafes of Starbuck's coffee as well as real cream, and Coffee mate Creamer. There was also a large selection of healthy breakfast choices like oatmeal with a bunch of toppings, packaged yogurt, and bagels. In hot chafing dishes with scrambled eggs and bacon, and packaged croissant breakfast sandwiches. I had a few cups of coffee ( I added chocolate chips to make it mocha) and yogurt, while my husband chowed down on the eggs, and bacon with added toast. The breakfast room is large, so many families were partaking of the breakfast. There is a sweet view of the mountains behind the hotel from the breakfast area. Checkout was fast and easy as we had prepaid (a necessity) and we were able to pullup the car right in front and we were on our way!!!

Clean, quiet, peaceful and comfortable. What more do YOU want? Breakfast is included, and the variety was; boiled, or scrambled eggs, salsa, quiche, bacon, oatmeal with toppings, a variety of muffins/bagels, juices, yogurts, oat & soy milk plus tea & coffees. :) The staff are friendly & courteous. We had a balcony with a view (308) that overlooks the Tehachapi hills. A very quiet location with comfortable beds. We have stayed in other hotels in Tehachapi, but this is #1! It is about 20 min. south from the military's Bakersfield National Cemetery ( a surprisingly, beautiful place! ). Ten minutes north of the cemetery, is a fun stop; Murray Family Farms, where you can fuel up, let the kids run around & buy fresh produce too! In town is a great German bakery & highly rated Indian restaurant also! This is a lovely location that is highly recommended!

Due to o COVID-19 Marriott's new policy doesn't offer breakfast meals but offer to-go bags w sandwich, water, fruit & energy bar. When I asked what time meal bags are available, evening attendant told me 6-10am. I came down the following morning at 9:40am and morning attendant said meal bags was only offered between 6-9am. She did not even offer any alternative for miscommunication. update: As we checked out, Katrina offered us to grab any drink and a snack for my wife and myself from the "market place" at lobby. Thank you

Worst Fairfield! Entrance: staff folding towels on the check in counter. Room: smelled like urine. Breakfast: all prepackaged, preservative and chemical laden cheap products. Towels: frayed, thin and ragged. Decor: room has an empty hole under the television, no art on walls, dusty shelf over doorway. Staff: does not understand simple requests. Cleaning staff: did not attend bathroom. Pool: murky cloudy dirty. Hot tub: jets overspray and splash outside the tub. On the plus- they served Starbucks coffee, and the facility seems new. This is an owner/manager issue... Marriott is generally much more professional. This was a disgusting experience. I have photos but they won't upload.

Unfortunately, my interaction with Dani, the girl that answered the phone today completely changed that. I simply needed to "request a bed change" for a reservation that's still three weeks away. Since we booked through Hotels.com, they directed us to call the hotel directly. When we did, Danni immediately told us, "They lied to you, they scammed you and I can't do anything about this. You need to go back to them," in a very harsh and dismissive tone and we hung up. So we again contacted Hotels.com, and they once again instructed me to call the hotel because it was a simple bed change request. When I called the hotel back, Danni answered again. Her attitude was just as rude and unhelpful as before, and I told what we were trying simply change the bed from a king to two queens, and as someone in customer service, if she could try to help me that would be appreciated.... she got really snotty with me, and started talking me in a very sarcastic tone, and became very dismissive and even more rude than she was the first time! I have NEVER written review --but this experience was so shocking, and I felt others should know about the customer service that could have been an easy assist! I've been a loyal guest for years and have never been treated this way by the staff. I understand that employees have policies they must follow, but there's a big difference between saying "I'm sorry to hear this, here's what I can do to try to assist you today" but speaking to a loyal guest in a dismissive, confrontational, snotty manner is so unprofessional and a hotel as large as Holiday Inn. Dani could benefit from additional customer service training in how to treat paying customers with very simple requests, with some professional communication. I sincerely hope management addresses this, along with her rude attitude, because the hotel itself has been a place I've enjoyed staying in the past.

Our Unit was clean, plenty of space, comfortable furniture, stocked with what we needed, and everything worked. We especially loved the Fireplace as it got cool on the rainy day. We loved the area, a nice park next door, within walking distance with a pond & a playground for kids. Small town (Stallion Springs) has a gas-station with a few eateries. Tehachapi is a bigger town (about 30 mins away). Make sure to stop at Visitor Center as it will give you plenty of ideas of things to do & where to eat. We specifically booked this hotel because they were letting us check out til 2pm. We had online meetings with clients scheduled til 2pm and here comes Yoli calling our room with a very unprofessional demeanor. Couldn't even comprehend the situation they had put us in. Telling us that she didnt even know we were in here was a total joke. What, did you think we just made our own room keys?? Im glad i booked it only for one night. It was great for the price but inconvenient because of management staff like Yoli, who is intellectually underwhelming. Would've paid $30 more somewhere else had we known we couldn't check out at 2pm. On top of the inconvenience, i have to mention that blankets were stained with old blood maybe? and a towel was also stained, i dont want to event think about. How they think its okay to put that in the room is beyond me. Though overall just keep in mind the type of people you will be dealing with if you book here. This is a classic "you get what you pay for". And a manager who isnt the sharpest tool in the shed.

Through the night there was a knocking similar to the sound of hot water going through cold pipes. The receptionists were polite. Considering the other options for hotels in the area SureStay is as good as the others.

The hotel was conveniently located about halfway through our trip, was one of the first options recommended on the Amex Travel website, and the price was reasonable, so we booked it without hesitation. Unfortunately, this turned into one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. After a long day of driving with our young child, we finally settled into our room and were ready to get some much-needed sleep. That's when we discovered what appeared to be bed bugs crawling on the bed. It was absolutely disgusting and incredibly upsetting, especially after such a long drive. The last thing any family should have to worry about is the cleanliness and safety of their hotel room. We took photos of the bed bugs as evidence and contacted American Express the following day to file a formal complaint. I expected much higher standards from a hotel offered through American Express Travel. Cleanliness is the most basic expectation of any hotel, and this experience fell far below that standard. I sincerely hope the hotel takes immediate action to thoroughly inspect and treat its rooms so other guests don't have to go through the same experience. If you're considering staying here, I strongly recommend inspecting your room and bedding carefully before unpacking or getting into bed. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.
