I just bought two pairs (one for my son and one for myself) of Salt optical eyeglasses at Eyestructure and I couldn't be more pleased. Keith did a fantastic job of pointing us in the right direction when it came to flattering styles and David made the rest of the process (we had to return with updated prescriptions) absolutely seamless. My glasses were promised mid-week, but were ready by the weekend. David took special care to make sure that the new glasses fit properly and also made sure that the prescription was correct. I highly recommend Eyestructure. The glasses are pricey, but the selection and service (at least in my mind) justify the price. And unlike the place down the street, they actually include a bottle of cleaning solution and an extra cloth with your purchase. read more

The large, mustachioed man who we dealt with at this shop seemed perfectly nice at first. A screw had popped out of my spouse's glasses, sending one lens to the ground and taking a big chip out of it. We were walking on Prospect Street, and we passed this store. We went in hoping that we might buy a screw to replace the missing one. We waited for a while, then explained to the large man that we needed a screw. My spouse mentioned parenthetically that he would probably have to get the lens replaced too (meaning by his usual optician). The man whisked the glasses with him into the back room. After he had been gone for some time, we began to wonder what he was doing, and my spouse called to him, saying that he just needed a screw. The man then burst out of the back room, blustering about how he'd FILED the chip out of the lens, polished the lenses, and that he'd also thought we wanted him to make a new lens. We explained that we thought he had misunderstood us. Although he'd done work on the glasses that he had not informed us he was planning to do (filing the lens), which was really wrong of him, he did not try to rectify the situation. Instead, he became REALLY angry. He said, "I'm very good at what I do", though we had not actually attacked his professionalism. He then demanded $20 from us for the unrequested work he had already done on the glasses. Did I mention he sealed the screws in too? We paid him because he was very angry and a lot bigger than us. At this point, he met my attempts to ameliorate and figure out the situation with statements like, "Get out of my shop right now," and "Thank you for making my day". This is the most unpleasant interaction I've ever had at any optician's store. This man (who may be the store owner) has serious problems with anger and takes it out on unsuspecting customers. I am a 30+ year local La Jolla resident. I had a terrible experience at this business and would never spend another penny here and would discourage anyone from considering using this business highly from doing so. My experience started when I went into the store with about 15 very expensive Chrome Heart optical frames wanting to update the RX lenses in all which I did end up doing through them (much to my regret). I spent at least $7000 with them for this project and also bought some additional frames. I would have left the minute I walked in but it was convenient and I did not really have time to start looking for an alternative. I should have known better though as the person that helped me had a zero personality, had no interest in customer experience and was border line rude and definitely unprofessional. Anyways I had them replace all of the lenses. It took about 3 weeks to get the frames back with the new lenses and the quality and workmanship was a 3 or 4 at best. Again, not having time or energy to deal with them on the sub par work as they do not welcome satisfaction and have no sense of caring. I just took my glasses and left. Today (don't ask me why) I went and put my hand back on the hot stove maybe thinking the experience would be different. My goal today was to have RX lenses put in a new pair of Chrome Hearts and also to buy a couple of new computer frames and have some lenses replaced in an existing frame. Why did I go back? Because I am a fool. The same representative was there and I felt compelled to explain I was back to do more business but wanted to express some concerns about my past order. In his predicable fashion he was rude, condescending and threw his his colleague (Ian) under the bus (who was not even at the store today) and blamed him for the past issues that I had mentioned. I told him that really it was not so much as to blaming an individual because as a customer I really view my experience as an Eye Structure one not a personal one. At this point as the representative became more confrontational I kindly told him that I was not interested in doing any more business with them and left. No loss here as I was a fool to go back in the first place. The store is tired and old, the staff are rude and the owner (who I have not met) I am told is not the poster child of building a business based on customer experience. His staff is shepherding his charter so I guess the apple does not fall far from the tree. I will NEVER spend another $ here and I would discourage anyone from patronizing this retailer. TOP FLIGHT SERVICE. This is the place to go for high-end designer sunglasses in the Village. I recently went in the store to have a pair of Chrome Hearts sunglasses repaired. I had bought them elsewhere (The Optical Shop of Aspen) but their Prospect Street location closed a couple of years ago. Lenny, the sales rep on hand, was more than helpful in getting them fixed and charged me only $10 -- very fair considering how pricey these puppies are. I was so pleased with the service I brought in another a pair of sunglasses, by Mosely Tribe, I bought at Fred Segal to have their nose pads replaced. This time Lenny repaired them for free! So if you have a pair of designer sunglasses to be repaired, take them to Eyestructure and ask for Lenny. PARENT TIP: They have a beautiful aquarium near the entrance great for any parent with a young child, as I do. It'll keep them mesmerized long enough for you to check out some new shades! read more

We went here last week and received really great service from Merlin (not sure if I get the name right. Sorry). I had never owned a pair of oversized sunglasses before and was hesitate to try it because I didn't think it would suit my face. Merlin picked like 20 pairs of glasses for me to try on and to my surprise, most of the ones that she picked for me went well with my facial shape. I ended up spending $500+ on a pair and my friend bought 2 pairs from here. We were there for an hour and Merlin was so patient, friendly and very helpful. I was browsing. Sales guy approached and I told him I was looking for readers and/or full prescription glasses. I advised that with my fat head most women's frames don't fit me. He handed me a frame to try on that was tight and ugly. I said I liked flat-top frames and he handed me yet another tight ugly curvy frame with nose pads. I said my glasses weigh almost a pound and nose pads were not an option. He got really testy and told me I shouldn't be so picky. WTF? I might be old, fat & ugly but I don't have to accept tight ugly glasses. This is why I usually end up at Costco, because if I have to accept ugly frames and crappy service at least I shouldn't pay a lot. This is a place for rich and beautiful people. read more

We stopped in here last Saturday night after dinner. Not sure when the encounter with the sales clerk went bad or what we did to prompt it but at one point my husband asked to see the largest frames they had, the other girl suggested Oliver Peoples and the girl helping my husband said to her co-worker: No, those aren't in his price range. As if he wasn't standing there. It was straight out of Pretty Woman. We felt it was the perfect time for the "drop the attitude honey, you don't own the store" line. Overall she was incredibly rude. And this from someone who works in a store that pastes florescent orange "15% off!!!" stickers all over their merchandise. Tacky. read more

Everytime I walk into this store I am treated like royalty. The staff is extremely knowledgeable on all of their products. They always pick out the nicest stuff that suits my face. If you tell the valet that you are running in to the store they will just let you leave your car out front. I always have issues with my glasses, and they repair or replace them without any trouble at all. Keith the owner, is an awesome guy, and he has a cute little pomeranian that cruises around in there. His wife Louise was helping me one day and she was the sweetest most kindest lady, it is definatley refreshing for La Jolla thats for sure!!!! read more

The headlines: Rude, arrogant, belligerent. If that is the kind of service you prefer, you found the right place. I stupidly spent 2200 on a eye glass frame that within weeks of buying it, clearly manifested a manufacturer defect. This is the good part of the experience. From there, this retailer was absolutely terrible. I was treated with such an attitude that can best be described as haughty, conceited, self-important, pompous, disdainful, and contemptuous. When I asked to speak to the owner, this person refused to connect us. In an era where retail is suffering and challenging, this operation is clearly doing itself no favors.
