In the course of 2 years, company decided to raise my agreed rental rate 3 times for up to 50% more than initially agreed. After confronting the manager, I was told this is out of their hands since corporate decides when and how much the rental increases occur. Instead of moving my business elsewhere, manager offered a smaller unit at a much lesser rate, taking into account that "rate will not increase for at least a year and even if it does, increase will be marginal". Trusting this company I decided to go ahead with the downgrade. To my surprise, less than 4 months later I receive ANOTHER RATE INCREASE NOTICE!! This time the increase would be for more than 50% starting next month. This increase like all the others happen for NO JUSTIFIABLE reason. As expressed by many others, this company has a long history of PREDATORY BILLING PRACTICES. They purposely wait for you to be settled with your storage to increase your rates, not by a marginal amount but increases of over 50% of your agreed rental agreement. I appealed this with their superiors in writing but they failed to even respond. I am now in the process of starting to take legal action against this company and needless to say I recommend everyone to stay away from this corporation completely!

They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. Very nice and responsive. Shortly after moving in, a horrible odor emerged. They couldn't find the source. The site began to look less than stellar. The parking lot was dirty. It just didn't look as nice as it did when I moved in. Also, my rents began to disrespectfully skyrocket. My rents tripled, forcing me to move. Storage is already insanely high to begin with, and then you keep increasing? It's a storage unit, not an apartment. It's just disrespectful and predatory. Upon move out, I found that they charged me for an additional month and refused to prorate or refund me for the month I would not be there. Lastly, during move out I discovered mice in my belongings! I had no mice prior to moving in, yet my unit was littered with mouse droppings and my belongings infested. I told on site mgmt and was given a dry apology. I'm so happy to be moving out but am now terrified to relocate my belongings for fear of rodents hitching a ride. I saw big metal boxes throughout the property, but I had no idea they were industrial rat traps. I have never dealt with rodents, so I didn't know what they were until someone else told me. The least they could do is prorate me for the month; especially now that they have given me mice and God knows what else is living in my boxes I reached out to corporate and was given the "looks like you've been told we don't prorate or issue refunds. That's why you should give us notice prior to moving out". Which I did. Notice was given. Just because you don't do refunds or pro-rates, doesn't mean you can't. They're just greedy and predatory. I personally wouldn't recommend this company or site for your storage needs. Three stars for what they use to be when I first moved in. 1 and a half for what they have become now.

Grasshopper Movers is HANDS DOWN the best moving company I've worked with. Maybe because they are local and small, or maybe because they're just committed to providing the best service possible. EVERY single person I dealt with at Grasshopper has been customer focused and professional. They are clearly a company that is focused on meeting customer needs versus up-selling or lengthening the process. I would have even considered myself a not ideal client in that I contacted Grasshopper last minute and used them for storage far longer than anticipated AND asked for delivery and received it within 2 days of the request (meaning they didn't get to milk more money out of us just because they could.). DC is filled with lots of competition and these folks are just old fashioned in their approach - they have pride in their work. Finally, they also had the best price based on my extensive research (which I do professionally). If only they provided services outside of moving and storage - housekeeping? mobile phone service? Wifi & cable TV? OK, now I jest, but you get my point. Call them and sleep well.
