I had a great experience with Extra Space Storage. Getting a unit was a simple on-line setup with a credit card. I have used other storage places over the years and this was the easiest and most convenient. Dan the manager was very helpful and he keeps the premises very clean and professional. I view storage places so differently now that I've seen "Storage Wars!" LOL In fact, the wife portion of the husband and wife management team here really entertained us with stories of what has been found in some of the storage units that she's managed. WOW. That's all I can say. So our new house doesn't have a garage. Isn't that crazy? But it is rural and located in a gorgeous, quiet canyon so we had to make a couple of sacrifices. A garage being one of them. Next thing you know, we turned into one of those couples that stores their Christmas decorations in a storage unit. Plus a few other things that we couldn't part with but wouldn't fit in the new abode. Extra Space Storage is really neat and clean. The employees are nice, professional and very helpful. They are also aware of the people on the grounds so they can keep your storage unit safe. (Wouldn't want anyone stealing my Christmas tree stand...) And they have a monthly payment program where the payment just comes right out of your checking account so you won't forget to pay and then see your own storage unit being auctioned off on "Storage Wars." Only one small negative - when we arrived to place our items into our storage unit, they had put a lock on our unit. They said this was to deter homeless people from sleeping in it. And luckily for us we were there during office hours so they could remove the lock for us. Just something to be aware of if you're moving items into your storage unit after hours ;) read more

Not the best place to store your stuff. After renting a large storage space, and a second smaller one, here for our furniture, we found more rat droppings than you can even imagine. It was disgraceful. This place is not inexpensive at all. The entire place just seems dirty. Add to the rat stuff, the "manager" just doesn't seem very interested in customer service. Almost everything seemed to be a bother for him. We are now renting storage in an Extra Space Storage in Thousand Oaks, where they clearly pride themselves on keeping their customers happy and it's almost spotless! The manager there, Amanda is delightful My advice... Steer clear of this Extra Space Storage on Stearns in Simi Valley and find a cleaner one with more courteous employees. read more

I had to give it one star but really it should be -5...Carlos, the supposed mgr is so busy talking out of both sides of his mouth he can't remember which lie he told you last!! He owes us $63 for a mistake he made when we rented a space THREE MONTHS AGO. We have called, always get the voicemail, we have gone by at all different times just to find the door locked and no one in the office. Finally today we caught up to him..." Oh its a computer glitch, it did it two months in a row"...I have a problem with his excuse given that the man told me he would call by 10am today, and never did. We had to go to the office again...it still isn't resolved!!! My advice..if you are looking to rent a storage space go anywhere, EVERYWHERE but here!!!! read more

I was looking for a place to store some things. I came across extra space storage and went inside. Dan was there answered all my questions and help me find the unit that was perfect for me. The building itself is clean and cool even though it was quite hot outside. They provide carts and elevators to make your moving easier. Not surprising this place has such low reviews. The manager Dan is absolutely rude. He lies regarding various "insurance" that is offered with the storage facility swears he doesn't know that home owners insurance and renters covers the storage facility and then talks bad about your insurance company when you say it does. I also felt very discriminated against when trying to deal with Dan Daniels, I guess being a young mexican American guy just means I get worst customer service. When I first found this location I was very excited. I had been illegally locked out by my landlord during a pandemic not to mention being made homeless and disabled!!! I rented three units and there were plenty empty units still remaining. When I finally loaded my belongings into the units it was clear I only needed two. I asked for the corporate number as they charged me for all three despite me not using one, having empty units and me actually in good faith renting a smaller unit from them. They had a promotion going on one month free which I was never offered. They refused to provide me the corporate number. Charging a disabled person over $400 for a unit never used. In these unprecedented times when comparator doing all they can I cannot believe this company would steal from a homeless disabled woman who rented three units in good faith. If I had the means I would leave for the principal. The manager was rude and acted like he had bent over backwards for me!!! It's called doing your job. I will be reporting this to consumer affairs and the ADA. I believe this is discrimination against a disabled woman. It's unethical and unprofessional. Buyer beware! read more

This place and Dan is a joke . They raise the rent every couple of months. There's always something broken , like the gate to get in or the doors to get into the storage units . Dan will always give you wrong information and play stupid like he never said that . They called me when I was 8 months pregnant and said my unit was empty and asked if I was moving out . I raced down there scared my belongings were stolen only to find out they confused me with another unit . The day I moved out I was told I would be receiving a refund . I should expect a check in 4-6 weeks they'd have to calculate the total and get back to me, which of course no one got back to me . Dan then asked me to write down my new address where they can mail the check. Well, 5 weeks later I call to find out what's going on but can't get anyone on the phone . I went in to the office and Dan , per usual is playing dumb saying he doesn't know why I was told that when he was the dim wit that told me I'd be receiving the refund . He kept going on about how there must be a different situation .Which I don't know what other situation there would be . I told him to check the cameras to refresh his memory about what he told me and he was confused as to what cameras I was talking about as the 5 monitors behind him are showing security footage of the facility . Save you sanity and money and go else where ! read more

This is the worst storage facility in Simi Valley don't ever use it the customer service sucks the management is terrible and I'm pretty sure the manager on Friday July 14th 2017 was smoking drugs of some kind with two people in the parking lot. Storage companies are all organized crimes, the elite set them up to steal from the less fortunate, I give them lots of credit for how brilliant they are and have no morals or conscience. I'm a single mom with a couple little kids, I recently had got evicted and I stored my belongings in the Simi Valley location, BIG MISTAKE. I want everyone to know is that this companies KNOWS the value of your belongings and they will do anything to get you evicted so they can auction off your stuff. I had stored my furniture there for about a year and I would pay in 3 months increments, always cash and I got to know the employees pretty well and they are very nice. It was shortly after Christmas, I was waiting for my student loan to pay my storage, I wasn't even a month behind and they auctioned off my unit. CRAZY! They will tell you that they called you or that they mailed you notices but this is not true, they never call nor mail notices. I had a $20K value of furniture and they sold it, they wouldnt even let me get my personal belongings that BY LAW they are suppose to let you keep. The reason they are able to get away with this is because they know we won't be able to hire a lawyer because we are broke citizens in need of storage. The company doesn't care to auction off your stuff, they have no morals but the only thing that keeps me sane is that GOD SEES EVERYTHING AND THERE WILL ONE DAY BE CONSEQUENCES. read more

This is a neat and tidy space for storing items. Units are a little small, but they are tall and there seems to be plenty of space for storing. I am renting a 5x5, but the do have larger if needed. The place is extremely clean and well managed. Dan, is helpful and helped us move our stuff into our unit, which was really quite nice! The only advice I have is if you are wanting to get the one month free deal, sign up on the 1st of the month, if you do not do this, you do not technically get your first month free as you will be charged the within the same month, for ex if you sign up on June 10th, you will be charged on July 11th, even if you have only been in the rental for 31 days, however this can easily be remedied if you booked on the 1st of June, then your first billing would be July 1st, allowing June to be your free month. I ended up paying in the month that should have been free because I signed on April 28th, then was billed on May 29th, but other than this misunderstanding I had when I signed up, the location is great, the place is well kept, Dan is very helpful and readily available to help you with whatever you need. The process is easy and everything was completed in a matter of minutes. I do recommend this location and working with Dan! read more

I moved from Public Storage to Extra Space Storage. So nice to have the drive up - same price as the 2nd floor elevator at Public, plus it's larger. So far no rats (I read the other reviews) but we'll see. That's a pretty scary thought. I hope the solved that. The only thing missing is a bin for trash. That would give them 5 stars. And for what it's worth, the smell of In And Out next door is so amazing. I love going to my unit. Anyone who has a storage unit near it knows what I'm talking about. read more

I question the fact that I MUST purchase their ridiculously expensive insurance policy that is $13/m for up to $2k in coverage. I'm covered under my home owners policy AND, the value of the items stored is about zero. Temp storage for my daughter to keep a bunch of crap that she will move to her new place once she's settled in about 6 months. If I put it all on the street for sale, I might get $100 for everything. read more

I have been an extra space storage customer for over 2 years now. Carlos is usually who I deal with and is always amazing. However I got a call from apparently the store manager Raina (not sure of the spelling) the other day letting me know my payment was due. Well as Carlos knows I can't make my payment until the middle of the month and he has been working with me over the course of all these years to get my payment date closer to the 16th. When Raina called me the other day she informed me my payment was due. I told her I was aware. She asked me when I would make my payment, and I told her that I would make it as soon as possible. She then quipped "well I guess you don't care about getting a late fee" and as I went to tell her that I was out of town because my father had passed away and I had his funeral the day before, she hung up on me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who does that? And why does she care if I get a late fee? I have been there close to 3 years. I always make my payments, I know when they are due. On top of that, what horrible customer service is that to hang up on your customer as they are speaking to you!! I pay $175 for a tiny unit, have some respect. I was so infuriated especially because I was dealing with my fathers death, but also because I pay almost $200 a month to store things there! How dare you be so rude to your customers!!! This will be my last month at this facility. I'm making arrangements to move my belongings. I highly suggest finding another storage unit unless you want that rude store manager calling you and then hanging up on you while you explain why you can't give her your money at that specific moment. She should be fired and never hired in a customer service job again! read more

RATS, RATS AND MORE RATS. RAT INFESTATION. I had 2 large units, a 10x25 and a 10x30 with rat feces and urine in both. And rats have free reign to travel from unit to unit, so I could never recommend anyone use this storage facility. It cost me $1700 to relocate to a facility without rats. The rats ate thru boxes containing paperwork, dishes, sporting goods (they ate half a catchers glove) and CANNED GOODS. The proprieter came by and took pictures, and so did I. She pointed at the box that contained canned goods and declared that because I had canned goods in the unit it brought the rats. I showed her on the Extra Space Storage website at - http://www.extraspace.com/storage-tips/what-should-or-should-not-be-stored-in-a-self-storage-unit.aspx - the section that said as quoted - "Canned foods can be stored in storage units, but perishable food products such as cereals, produce or meats are not allowed. These may spoil or attract pests." She said the Extra Space corportate website was incorrect, and that we were not allowed to have canned goods. I asked to speak with her supervisor. She gave me a number that she said was the district manager's phone number, and for 1 month I tried calling the number she gave me and EVERY TIME (at least 20 attempts) it went to a voice mail that said "voice mail full and cannot accept messages". I told this to her numerous times and she said the district manager was very busy and that she had given him my message to contact me. No one ever called me, EVER. I always had to initiate contact attempt. I then tried calling the corporate headquarters in Utah and twice left messages regarding my desire to speak with someone about the very bad rat issue. No one ever called. I will never us Extra Space Storage again, and will convey my personal experience to anyone whoever has storage needs. Bottom line is if there is a problem, nobody from top management thru middle management thru location management seems they could care less. Oh, but they did manage to put thru a rate increase just a few month after I moved in. They said the rate increase was needed to that they could continue to provide the high level of service they provide. As far as I am concerned they are a joke. read more
