We signed up for a 10x10 unit on the 2nd floor and started at a monthly price of roughly $50.. then all of sudden they changed it to $150 "due to market changes" and as of this month changed it to $228.. all without notice! Nice clean place but unfortunately after a one year prepay the rates doubled. I could not find an email or letter about the rate changes but luckily I checked their web portal to see when my next payment was due and noticed the change. The employee at the location was nice and was able to offer a small discount but was still expensive, online support couldn't care less. Too bad, the workers and location are great but unfortunately the way the business operates is not with the bait and switch tactics. The below response by the company is funny as they still offer the lower rates through their website as web rates but will later jack up the prices. I would give this place no stars, they are price gouging customers. My husband has a unit and they are doubling the rate, currently paying $76 jumping to $150 and yet the unit is advertised online for $91, $59 less than what they are jumping the price to. When we went into the office and spoke with the representative they said they can lower the rate to $122 "this way you don't have to move your stuff" if you book online, implying we can have the option of booking with them rather than booking a unit online and switching contents if we went with $122. We said we have to talk about it and left, we went home and decided "we can move our stuff" and proceeded to reserve a unit online for $91. Went back into the office and the representative said "I will not honor $91", She will not honor the online advertised rate: bait and switch! Go anywhere else but Extra Space Storage. Writing a letter to The Attorney General. They need regulations. this is true bait and switch, true scammers. Put garage ceiling racks in and garage cabinets in your garage, it's considerably less expensive than Extra Space Storage and it's considerably less aggravating. We started out paying "market rates" and within 2 years that rate quadrupled even though they were still offering the same initial rates to new customers online. There was zero communication about increases just constant rate increases hitting our account and the only explanation was "market rates" going up. It finally got so bad that we just decided to move out. Upon doing so they targeted us for all sorts of fees totaling well over $300 just for moving out. This place is an absolute scam. This was my first time renting a storage unit for my business. I chose a climate controlled unit. The facility is clean and well maintained. I enjoyed the music being played throughout the facility. The staff members were very friendly and helpful when I needed something. The dollies were always in the same place; and they were always lined up for my convenience. As a first time renter, I was not aware of the price changes so please be aware that prices do change with time. They do give you some notice so that you can budget the updated pricing. Switch-Price-Tactics and no loyalty to existing customers. Preface: I have had to use Extra Space Storage due to a location constraint, that's why I was with them for repeat sessions. I rented for the first time 10x10 unit, 3 months later, I received a notice of a price hike, doubling the monthly rate. I talked with the manager and she said they cannot make adjustments at the local-level. I then moved out to another storage facility for 6 months with consistent rates and no price-gouging/hike. Then I had to return to Extra Space Storage, they had a "Web Special"...great price, I booked for 6 months and shared I would like to stay there long term. Before the last month of my 6-month stay, I received a notification that my unit would double in price, plus 10%. I spoke with the manager and she could only lower it by a fraction, but couldn't allow me (an existing customer) to renew using the "Web Special" that was being offered this month. I asked if customer-loyalty would be a consideration and she shared that their systems do not allow managers to extend the savings/promotion to existing customers. I ended Direct TV because of this practice, I have ended Sprint Mobile service because of this practice and I ended Extra Space Storage for disregarding customer loyalty. Avoid them and their distain for existing customers. read more
