I stored here for over a year. This place is very unethical and I would not recommend them for any long term storage whatsoever. Every few months they would raise their rates on you because of "market conditions". Well, if "market conditions" are causing you to drop your prices on new customers, why are these same "market conditions" increasing the storage fees for current customers. I'm no business major, but that sounds extra scammy to me.... If you need storage for more than the free month they offer, look somewhere else. Business practices are so bad that they have to offer people free storage to walk in the door, and then the world of no-notice rate increases exist. Plenty of other storage options in the area. Reviews of other Extra Space Storage on Southern Dr nearby got blasted in reviews for same business practices. I wonder if this is common with all Extra Space locations. Extra Space, extra BS price increases. That should be their company motto. read more

Do not store here, unethical business practices. Started storing here three years ago because you can rent any size unit for $29 for the 1st month. After the 1st month, you are going to pay an outrageous sum. They allow you to transfer to another unit for $10 so I was able to transfer for an unair-conditioned , no lighting, 10x15 that was going to go up to $240 into a close by 10x20 that had AC and lights for under $220. That was reasonable and I planned to be there for some years. Then I got a rent increase of over 25% at about 3 months. Called both the manager and district manager and was told there was nothing that could be done. So with great pain and effort, my wife and I spent the time moving into a 5X10 Abt 100 feet inside the unit and we are both disabled. The new cost of as $65/mo. It was extremely painful and difficult for us to move from one unit to the next. (After sitting empty for over a month, the unit we left, eventually dropped by over 20% from what we had originally been paying. That's Abt $100 less than the new rate they were going to try to charge me for the new rate increase!) The new unit light kept going off after about every 10-15 mins and never was fixed over a 2 yr span. We paid 2 years in advance to avoid the rent increase. The situation inside the building was unbearably hard for me and dangerous so I planned to move once the two years was up. The last month, before my rent was due, they increased my rent nearly 50%. I reserved a 10x20 unit just days before my time was up, one which is outdoors and easier to get to for $149/mo. It was similar to the one I previously rented for $220/mo. I called to get a back up unit as these seem to disappear suddenly. The backup unit a 10x15, was going $99/Mo and was going to be closer to the unit I was moving out of so easier to move out of and easy to access once moved. I went the following day to rent the intention of renting the $149 unit, I called before I left to be sure someone was there, it was a new guy instead of Erica whom I normally deal with. It turned out to be the worst rental experience I've ever had in 30 years... The guy didn't even want to rent a unit to me. The problem being, that $149 was coming up at $174! Even after I showed him the screenshots I had of holding the unit at that $149 price he said, "there is nothing I can do about that." I finally ended up renting the $99 unit after almost two hours of grief with this guy. He didn't seem to know how to operate the computer and was having a complete meltdown telling me to come back the next day even though I already made arrangements to have someone help me move that afternoon! So I paid for 4 months. I spoke to someone about 3 weeks ago to pay ahead again by 2 years so I can freeze my price. They said I should still be able to pay ahead if I paid ahead in several more weeks and even if there was a problem, Erica should be able to fix it. I was going to go in but decided to call in the 20th of July which is 1.5 months before my next due date and less than 2.5 months since I moved in, I was completely shocked to find out they ALREADY raised my rate from slightly less than $99 with a senior discount to $174/month. Erica said she put in for a rate negotiation and it came back as "not eligible." Fortunately, I hadn't put much more in there yet than what had been in that 5X10 unit had in it. Extra Space Storage cannot be trusted. I consider what has been done to me as highly unethical business practices. I'm a senior, my spouse and I are disabled. I've let them know I'm severely disabled and this causes a strain on my finances and physical abilities. Now I face trying to find another unit somewhere else and the expenses and effort to find someone to move me yet again and in the dead of the dangerously high summer heat. So, I thought I was finished moving but NO! I have to move yet again. Is this some kind of sick joke? Does this happen to everyone? I was told, "pay before 3 months, and you can lock in 2 yrs at your original rate." That turns out to be a lie. I'm going to contact everyone I can think of to spread the word Abt this business and how they price gouge renters. read more

This place could care less about its customers. They increased the rates at least 3 times significantly over the last 18 months. They have kicked half the parking residents out of spaces so they could build more storage on it. Now in the remaining uncovered parking they just increased rent again by about $45 a month. A significant increase clearly showing no concern for your agreement just what the market conditions might be. THEY SUCK PERIOD! read more

We happened to pass by and I called to see if they had an available unit. They did! Walked inside and Erika helped us look at some units. I gotta say we've been looking for a couple of months for a unit and I'm glad we found Extra Space. Erika made it super easy to get it leased. She was friendly and funny. We had a great little visit while leasing the unit. I've used this location awhile back before it was Extra Space and I gotta say the remodel that they did is amazing! Weather I walk in, call or make a reservation online it's always been a great experience with Extra Space Storage on Southern Ave and the staff here. I especially have gotten awesome customer service from Erika. She is very easy to work with and always in a pleasant mood. She is on top of her stuff at this facility and knows what's available on the spot. I've rented here several times and have had maybe six different times by now. Each unit has been easy to access and are always very clean inside. Never any issues inside the building with the climate, the other renters, or the staff. Never felt unsafe at any hour of the day or night. Always been a great experience no matter what. I will for sure rent here as long as the prices are reasonable and Erika is there willing to sign me into another unit. She deserves a raise for her hard work, her ability to manage this facility, and her outstanding ability to give the best customer service of all storage facilities I've rented at in Arizona and California. This is our 2nd unit at this Extra Space Storage location (we also have another one at a different site as well, 3 total) and we couldn't be happier with the company as well as the employees. Robyn was amazing. 5 *****. Place is super clean and accessible, maintenance lives right on property so any issues are quickly resolved. Robyn the manager was very thorough in helping. It was great that they also send you a text with all pertinent info for your unit and access codes so makes it super easy to get it! read more
