I made my reservation online went to facility to be greeted by a friendly sales representative eager to get me to rent me a storage unit I payed for 3 months in advance. Start day November 1st to January 30th. I'm also in the process of moving to a new apartment so a lot going on. First day we moved item in in a rental truck so after our last load my partner and I had fallen asleep in our rental truck woken up by another store manager we were shocked that we had fell asleep in front of our unit but no big deal we began to unload our last load when along comes this 2 manager telling us we cannot sleep at our storage unit and she's aware we are homeless also to not wash up in the bathrooms In utter dismay asked the manager why did she assume we were homeless she wanted to say that she saw it in the notes this is clearly an assumption or miscommunication we don't know. There were other comments made throughout this past week again we started on November 1 it's now the 6th and the constant watching every move we make questioning us on what we're doing how long we're going to on grounds for throughout the day it's just very odd behavior and I just want to make it clear that we are not homeless and living on the facility grounds . It's all right there in black and white, and if you rent in-person instead of online it's all explained to you in great detail. No excuses. My recent experience here could not have been better. We needed a short-term unit when downsizing my father's house. Super easy. Then we needed a place to park one of his cars. Super easy. Then dad passed away and the probate court shut down his credit cards, which were paying for the storage. The staff here were very understanding and patient with that process. Likewise, several years ago when I needed a large unit to hold my entire household between houses... super easy. In the years between those two occasions the place did not "go downhill" at all. I rented a unit with this place some years back and will NEVER use them again. Frequent rate increases, poor service and not customer orientated. I had a unit with them for quite a few years consecutively and one time I had an issue with my bank and a payment deduction overdrew my account, this company tacked on a fee and would not remove it... it happened once (not several times) and they would not allow a one time exception removal of a fee. Most other companies (banks, credit card companies, etc) will remove a fee for the first time.... Well, not Extra Space Storage. Total turnoff for me. I prefer to give business to companies who are willing to work with their customer base, this is definitely not the place. Outstanding self storage facility. I have utilized other self storage facilities in the tri-state area over a number of years, and this one is top notch. From the conditions of the unit and the maintenance of the property. To the on-site management that is available 24 hours a day. The facility is well monitored and very secure. The hours that it is accessible up until 10 PM is fantastic for people who have work and need to utilize their storage facility later in the evening as well as early in the morning. From the moment we walked into the office to discuss prices and sizes all the way through the numerous times that we access this unit every month it has been a fantastic experience. Do yourself a favor and read up about the experiences of others with regard to Extra Space Storage. Search for the words "Extra Space Storage Rate Increase". True to the experience of others I received a rate increase for my 10 x 30 unit right at the 6 month mark and you will too. They know they have you over a barrel once you stuff is there and will raise your rates until you move out because what are you going to do...move everything out and into another storage facility? LOL. Calls to the store and district manager, while pleasant enough, did not result in anything other than being told they understand and can sympathize with my concern but they have to raise rates from time to time to meet the needs of their customers...typical corporate speak. I am not one to take to social media to voice my grievances like this and I wish I had read up before I chose this storage place from the sea of others. Do yourself a favor and choose a mom & pop place over a company that has to show profit to their shareholders and board of directors at the expense of satisfying customers. From the coporate office to the distric manager's office appologized for the mistakes, but nothing is being done to correct it. Very clean facility with affordable rates. There is onsite trash and recycle bins and a manager lives onsite for safety reasons. The front office sells basic moving supplies and the staff were very courteous. You need to provide your own lock, or buy one for $14 at the front desk. read more

I finally went in to get the space, and Luis was very nice and extremely fast and efficient with getting the paperwork processed. I have had a unit at extra space storage in orange for 2 yrs now and have yet to have any problems accecpt with one late payment fee that was waived as a courtesy. Be careful when you rent from Extra Space Storage. Look into all other storage options because this is a greedy operation. When you sign their storage contract, they do not tell you the dates and amounts of future rate increases. Turns out, they raise their rates after only 5 months of storage. They know that, once they have your stuff, you are not going to want to pay the moving man to move it again - so you are trapped, and they know it, and they take advantage of it. I had unit 3544 for over a year, after several months of having the unit it seemed that there was water leaking in the unit. I told the guy working, he said there shouldn't be and maybe it just seemed that way. Again the problem occurred, this time whole boxes were soaked so much they were falling apart. The guy came down and seen that there was water damage took pictures and said they would call me when they found another unit available. No call ever came. After a month I called and was told there was still no units. I still had more water leaking in my unit over this time. Another month went by still no call. I called back was told there was a unit, but that they couldn't hold it for me so if I didn't have time to get there before another customer I wouldn't get it. They sold that to another customer, again I waited. After almost 6 months I finally got moved to another unit after all the pictures and childhood stuff of my family was ruined from this companies terrible service. All I got for this was a 1 month $30 credit for the trouble and told I should file an insurance claim. The insurance does not cover sentimental value items. I got the unit because I thought my stuff would be safe there, I mind as well have just thrown it into the street and not wasted the money with this company. My rate has also been doubled since I originally moved into the unit which is ridiculous and the guys at the store are always changing their stories and pretending like they've never seen you before. Watch out for the additional charges that you're not told when you reserve a unit. There's a $22 start-up fee, plus a healthy monthly fee for required insurance, unless you press and tell them you have insurance, and then you have to send them a copy of it. You also need to provide your own lock. None of the above is told to you when you reserve, only the basic price, and you find out only when you roll up with your full truck. Finally, while the floor dimensions are accurate, the reality is that, for example, with a unit that is five by ten, the door is a little more than two feet wide, making it difficult to put any items inside that actually need five feet. Always ask how wide the door to the unit is. We rented a five by ten for appx $65 including tax, and when it became evident that we probably had to go up a size, the next size unit was $100 a month more!
